Yes, number of validators sill increase, but right now, you need a permission to be a validator, your keys need to be hardcoded. Once it's fully decentraized (September), everyone is able to join. For example Kucoin has launched soft-staking program for third-party coins listed on their exchange recently and they announced staking and lock-up program for own tokens today. I don't see any evidence that this POS deviced are using anywhere. They are just making photos with them (not sure if this real photo or may be just prototype) ... but no real confirmation.
