third captcha is absolutely shit
agree,
What's wrong with the third one?  I haven't seen that kind of captcha before--seems pretty clever to me.  Sometimes I need to refresh it a couple times to make sure I see everything correctly, but it's generally a lot easier to read than the first one.
462  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpartanCoin - Cryptocoin for the competitive world. on: July 26, 2014, 02:31:42 PM
can someone please post a detailed .conf file and .bat file for solo ming? when I follow the examples here I get no connection

It will be a number of hours until I have access to my miner (like 9 or so).  But if no one has been able to help you by then, I'll post the conf file and launch script that I use.  Note that I have a Linux miner, not Windows.  But aside from path and program execution differences, they should pretty much be the same.

Again, this is Linux, but Windows should be pretty similar or the same.

This is all I have in my spartancoin.conf file:

rpcuser=<your user name>
rpcpassword=<your password>
rpcport=55883
maxconnection=100
server=1

addnode=54.186.126.94
addnode=54.186.242.36
addnode=54.186.245.111

I don't know if other settings would be better for some reason, but that works for me.

This is what I have in my launch script:

export DISPLAY=:0
export GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100
export GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS=1
cd <cgminer dirctory>

./cgminer --scrypt -o 127.0.0.1:55883 -u <your user name> -p <your password> <GPU settings>

I'd be happy to share my GPU settings if you're interested, but unless you have a 7790 or 270x, they probably won't do you much good.

Let me know whether or not that works for you.

Hi and Thank you. This did not work for me either.I continue to get the same failed to connect error.I appreciate the effort though,Thanks :-)

Bummer.  Sorry that didn't work for you.  Just to be sure, did you change the port to 55883?  I see in your original post that you have 127.0.0.1:80 instead of 127.0.0.1:55883.

Edit: If nothing else, spartan.weminealtcoins.com seems to be working fine for now, so you could use that pool.

Yes my wallet is currently synced to 23557 blocks.
I had the same problem.  I thought that I should put in my own rpcuser and rpcpassword, but apparently that's not the case.  When I changed them back to

rpcuser=captcoin
rpcpassword=captcoin

it synced fine.

465  Economy / Speculation / Re: August: Bull, flat or bear ??? on: July 25, 2014, 11:55:43 PM
Given the recent break of the 610-615 support and gradual downtrend since the beginning of July, coupled with all the resistance above 650, I think we're going to start out August in bear territory.  If it can find support around 550 or so, August could end on a bullish note.  The Global Advisors Bitcoin Investment (GABI) Fund is also supposed to start trading soon, so if enough money comes in through that, we could get a nice rise.
466  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price to be US$3,500,000??? on: July 25, 2014, 11:38:16 PM
We should not be comparing bitcoin to dollars. They are in different markets. Bitcoin will never replace dollars. It will supplement all fiats as another foreign currency.
This seems to me like the most realistic scenario.  Even if a lot of people would like BTC to replace USD, I doubt the government and other people who have power will allow it since they can't control it.  If bitcoin can't learn to coexist with other currencies, someone will probably try to kill it.
467  Economy / Speculation / Re: The BTC price is too high for it's current security model on: July 25, 2014, 11:22:43 PM
The new coins coming in everyday is clearly a major factor which prevents price rise and is costly for existing holders. All those in charge have also got big mining investments so they will not like to hear this.
This is something I've been wondering about recently.  With all the new mining hardware that's been purchased in the last few months, and the fact that the price hasn't moved much, I can see how there may be a lot of pressure to sell to pay off the equipment.  If it really looked like the price were going to take off again, more miners might hold on to their coins.  But as it doesn't look like we're about to hit ATHs anytime soon, they may be trying to get what they can, afraid that the price may drop more.
468  Economy / Economics / Re: Global Financial Crisis scenarios on: July 25, 2014, 10:58:27 PM
The 2007-2008 financial crisis, you might think, was an unpredictable one-time crash. But someone have plotted a set of early warning signs for unstable, growing systems, tracking the moment when any bubble is about to pop. (And he's seeing it happen again, right now.) Here is a video: http://www.ted.com/talks/didier_sornette_how_we_can_predict_the_next_financial_crisis

Lots of people see it coming with the insane lending going on in the housing sector. So, it is not unpredictable as the mainstream media portray it.
Knowing that it's coming isn't usually the problem.  Anyone who knows anything about finance knows another crash is coming.  The problem is figuring out when, how far the markets will fall in the crash, and also how much the markets will go up before we start the descent.  Timing is everything.

Correct, if you pull out now (from stocks, housing), you may loose some appreciation. What you can say, is that those assets are risky, and they become riskier.

Yes, as valuations increase, assets become riskier.  The stock market is starting to get pretty high now by historical standards, so one would think that we'll probably get at least a correction in the not-too-distant future.  But as an old saying goes, markets can behave irrationally longer than you can stay solvent.  So it's by no means a good idea to short, but it is time to be cautious.

470  Economy / Speculation / Re: Another dump to $550 can be expected in 48hours on: July 25, 2014, 08:26:19 PM
We are always in the down trend of $1200 to $0 which started from last year, $6xx is already the top bubble we can reach after all these Dead Cat Bounces

The "downtrend to $0" is impossible, if the price will fall to $100 there will be so many buyers that the value will be raised to the current levels.

$100.00 people will flock on it like flies on poo. The price will sky rocket way past $1000 with all the pump coming in. I'd love to see it to give me a chance to bag hold some coins Smiley
Maybe, but maybe not.  Unless the price slowly descends to 100 over a long period of time, it would take something pretty catastrophic for price to drop that far.  It barely got down to that on Gox even when bankruptcy was almost certain--I'm thinking something like the US and China both banning bitcoin.  If that happened, would you still want to buy in?

472  Economy / Economics / Re: could decentralized exchanger revolutionize bitcoin? on: July 25, 2014, 04:36:28 PM
decentralized exchanges seem to be a complicated solution to simple problem. The market is already solving the problem. MTGOX had to occur before we'd see more robust, transparent, and accountable exchanges. The market builds on each failure, and is stronger with each iteration. The market is the decentralization of bitcoin exchanges.
But it's not just about transparency and accountability, although those things certainly help.  It's also about legal recourse...knowing that exchanges can't just disappear and take all your coins without severe legal ramifications.
473  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Poll : do you trust an exchange to hold your bitcoins ? on: July 25, 2014, 04:30:07 PM
So pretty much there all shit.

xapo has insurance? Do you have to pay a premium for that?
In their vault it is insured, for 0.12% annually.
By whom is it insured?  And under what conditions?  If xapo suddenly disappeared and the owners ran off with your coins, would you be able to collect on the insurance for that (my guess would be no)?
474  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you sometimes wish internet was never invented? Wouldn't your life be better? on: July 25, 2014, 04:27:40 PM
Just about everywhere I go, I see people on their smartphones...on the bus, walking down the street....  A couple weeks ago, I saw someone sitting on their front porch in the middle of a beautiful day, just staring at their smartphone.  It's so sad--people miss so much beauty because they're buried in their phone.

Maybe some of them are just using their time on the bus doing something intelligent. Reading the news, a book, listening to TED talks, doing something creative. I don't see how this is worse than looking into the empty eyes of people on a commuter train. I've been there!
That's a good point.  I'm sure some of them are using their phone in constructive ways (which includes relaxation).  I'm just thinking of things like missing a beautiful sunset (even from a bus window) because you're buried in your phone.  But, I guess, some people don't care about such things anyway.

How can I set up solo mining?... While the SPN pools keep closing ect.
With all the recent pool issues, I've been solo mining the past few days.  I know there's considerable variation when not using a pool, but it seems like I've consistently been finding fewer blocks than the expected based on the network hash rate.  Has anyone else had the same problem when going solo, or have all of you been getting the blocks I haven't? Wink
476  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dafuq is happening with btc price on: July 25, 2014, 04:12:12 PM
@coinscoinseverywhere: I will hold to a new ATH or to zero, no problem in losing my investment. It is not very much(to me).
If you can lose it all without it keeping you up at night, then that's perfect.  It's a lot easier to make good decisions when you're not being controlled by fear.
477  Economy / Economics / Re: Global Financial Crisis scenarios on: July 25, 2014, 03:51:33 PM
do you think we`ll see something again like 2008? Its been 6 years already ever since that moment.
The 2008 collapse was something that generally happens less then once per lifetime.

The conditions to get the 2008 collapse are all there only bigger : reckless doing, 0% interest rate, government manipulation of markets, heavy regulation; except this time they will probably inflate the USD to make everyone whole so the stock market may not nominally go down
You can't just inflate the USD like that without major repercussions.  You'd likely end up with massive inflation, which would cause interest rates to skyrocket and bond markets to crash, which would cause or deepen a recession, which would cause the stock market to crash anyway.  Now, things are more complicated than this, so maybe there's some way they could do it without causing so many problems (or maybe they wouldn't happen quite in this way), but I'm guessing it would be very difficult at best.
478  Economy / Speculation / Re: Another dump to $550 can be expected in 48hours on: July 25, 2014, 03:30:25 PM
Hoping the same.

Will scoop up some in the 300-400 range. Not going to buy at this level.

And if it rallies like a mad man into 5 digits only to crash down to mid four digits you'd still agree that buying at this level is a bad move?  See, idk what's going to happen, but this logic of "i hope it crashes so i get more cheap coins" seems a hell of a lot riskier than just cost averaging irrespective of price.
I think it depends on how much capital you have and your general strategy.  It sounds to me like tooil is just being patient, which is a very good virtue to practice in trading and investing.  Such a strategy reduces overall risk of loss considerably.  The trade-off, of course, is that your risk of missing a big rally is greater.

But really, at the moment, it doesn't look like we're going anywhere fast, so patience seems wise.  I know things can turn on a dime, but we've had loads of positive news lately, and none of it has been enough to make BTC break $700.  We need either some news that's a real game-changer or some major market to open up (country, investment fund, ETF, etc.) to move us higher.
479  Economy / Economics / Re: Have you started spending rather than hoarding your bitcoins? on: July 25, 2014, 03:19:01 PM
1 - Attract people saying bitcoin price increased by 1 million percent in the fast 4 years, and they can get millionaires if they have some bitcoins.

2 - Complain they don't spend bitcoin, and for this the price is not rising.

Seems some people are doing the wrong propaganda of bitcoin.
Maybe I'm misreading what you're saying, but for #2, hoarding will increase the price, not make it fall.  If you spend bitcoin, I think most merchants will convert it to fiat very quickly, which will lead to a drop in price.
480  Other / Off-topic / Re: SOLAR ENERGY ? on: July 25, 2014, 03:11:37 PM

Oh, man, how can you bash Minnesota like that!  I love the north woods! Smiley  But I don't live there, so it's a treat to go for me. Wink

Anyway, there are a lot of places, of course, where solar is not as cost-effective.  You really need dry, desert areas.  The southwest part of the US would likely be the best place in the country.

I love the north woods too:P

Its been a rough year this year, 8 straight weeks where the high temp was 0 degrees, up to -30 degree lows during that with windchill of -55 degrees...

Then to follow that up it snowed until May, afterwards it rained for 2 months and flooded every river and we were still unable to go outside...So far we have had 1 day where it reached 90....Now Summer will be coming to an end very shortly and you can barely enjoy it!
Ok, yeah, I can see that.  I'm sorry it's been so crappy.  That's one of the biggest reasons that I don't actually want to live in Minnesota: the winters.  I'm in Illinois, and our winters are bad enough.  Of course this last one was one of the most brutal I can remember.
