461  Economy / Speculation / Re: Took just 3 months to double in price. Bubble!!!!! on: May 31, 2017, 02:10:12 PM
The price was going up quite quickly, but it has already corrected some and seems to have stabilized around the $2200 range. Due to this stabalization, I don't think we are in a bubble at the moment. I foresee the price starting to slowly climb over the next month.
462  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Long Does Physical BTC Wallets last? on: May 31, 2017, 01:56:19 PM
You aren't reading and writing tons of data to a hardware wallet like you would an ordinary USB drive so I don't foresee them failing due to this in any reasonable timeframe.

You could see if your bank is able to cash the check with your old business name. If not, you will likely need to get in touch with Paypal and have them reissue the check in your name.
464  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: cant open an old elecrum.dat file on: May 31, 2017, 04:32:51 AM
Thanks for the tip. didnt know electrum made a litecoin wallet.

it still doesn't work at all. I open the file and absolutely nothing happens.

I tested it by saving another test wallet and opening up and it works just as it should

but for my wallet.dat file.....nothing.

i cant understand it

in december of 2013, did electrum have a litecoin wallet?

I know I used electrum to save those litecoins. thats the only wallet I used at the time since it was the only lite weight i knew of.

if that update from electrum saying its not backwards compatible is accurate, then i and anyone who updated, not knowing this issue, could be totally screwed here.

I didnt save my pw seed and assumed just by saving these litecoins in a non-password encrypted file, that they would just be open to access in

the future

Are you talking about Bitcoins or Litecoins? You mention Litecoins and Electrum, but then state that you didn't know Electrum had a Litecoin wallet so I am confused.

https://electrum-ltc.org/ appears to be the site for the Electrum Litecoin (LTC) wallet.

Is the ICO still scheduled to be happening in June now? Has there been any developments on the date or is it still up in the air?
466  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: paper wallet storage on: May 31, 2017, 02:53:10 AM
As long as you are using a secure password and a strong encyption, I think this should be safe. Storing an unencrypted physical copy as suggested above is probably wise in case you forget the password in the future. You'll just want to ensure you have appropriate physical safeguards to prevent theft.
467  Economy / Gambling / Re: BITDICE - 🎲🎲🎲 7 NEW GAMES HAVE BEEN ADDED 🎰🎰🎰 on: May 30, 2017, 11:58:03 PM
are withdrawals still processing?

Yep, withdrawls are always processing. Be sure to confirm your withdrawl via email as it is pending until you do that. If you have any further issues, say something in chat and someone should help you out.

Hi

I have some bitdice tokens from affiliate program but I donīt see the option to move to main balance.

Thanks!

You can convert tokens to BTC on the Dashboard page in the lower right by clicking the Convert button.
468  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: hardware wallet help? on: May 30, 2017, 11:54:51 PM
The Ledger Nano S supports quite a bit of altcoins and probably more than most other hardware wallets do. Unfortunately, you aren't gonna find support for obscure altcoins or less popular ones. Although, it is probably possible for the altcoin developer to built support for hardware devices into their wallet software if they get enough demand.
469  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can't Access Bitcoins? on: May 30, 2017, 07:23:11 PM
As far as I know, Electrum never generated 8 word seeds. Back in 2013, seeds were generated with 12 words and always using multiples of 3. The only way that you would have had a 8 word seed, is if you had generated the seed yourself instead of allowing Electrum to generate it. Do you remember if you generated the seed yourself instead of using one created by Electrum?

I would first try restoring using the latest version of Electrum as recommended by HI-TEC99 and see if that works for you. If not, you may have to try other manual methods for restoring the seed to to the non-standard length.

This is great.  We do not need to go out of the Casino to convert our coins to other coins.  This saves a lot of effort and time since waiting for transaction confirmation is always something that I always hate.

Yeah, I suppose this could even be used to deposit with an altcoin that has faster confirmations and then convert to BTC if you wanted to. Although, you may end up losing some value during the conversion process due to fees I guess.
471  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Unconfirmed transaction not dropped out of mempool (> 2 weeks) on: May 30, 2017, 04:46:36 AM
I've had an unconfirmed transaction for over two weeks.

I noticed there was a period where it was dropped from blockchain.info but still showed unconfirmed in my electrum wallet.  Then a couple of days later it seemed to have been rebroadcast somehow.

Some questions

- Does electrum rebroadcast everytime I open my wallet?
- Can I do a double spend to a new output with a higher fee.  (I've made other arrangements for payment since the original payment is still stuck).  Anyone have a good tutorial how to do this?
- viaBTC is not really a solution in my case.  I just want the original transaction to be dropped.

Electrum shouldn't be rebroadcasting your transaction but the nodes may be rebroadcasting it for some time I think.

Yes, you should be able to double spend with a higher fee. It the transaction isn't showing in Electrum, this is an easy enough process. It could also be done if you enabled replace by fee. Otherwise, it can be more difficult. Sometimes restoring the wallet from the seed will allow you to respend the inputs. Eventually the transaction should drop out of the mempool and I would think that it should be pretty soon if its already been 2 weeks.
472  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Supporting UASF on Electrum on: May 30, 2017, 04:41:01 AM
How important is it for Electrum users to forcefully select a UASF or non-UASF server versus using a randomly selected server? I suppose this really only comes into play on August 1st depending on what happens, right?
473  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Update Electrum on: May 30, 2017, 04:36:02 AM
Yep, there is no auto-update functionality built into Electrum so you will need to go to the website and download the latest version.

The wallet file is stored in your User directory and should automatically work with the newer version. The only instance were it might not automatically work is if you are using the Portable version that stores the wallet in the same directory as the executable.
474  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it possible to purchase a few dollars in btc? on: May 29, 2017, 06:27:33 AM
It's possible, but i wouldn't recommand buying $5 from anywhere... There are a couple of reasons:
1) you'll pay a hefty premium
2) the seller will pay a hefty fee (and pass this price on to you)
3) you'll start gathering dust outputs, so you'll have to pay a big fee if you want to spend those again.

At this moment, https://bitcoinfees.21.co/ tells me that at current BTC price, you'll have to pay more than $1,5 fee for an average sized (226 byte) transaction if you want a decent chance of getting a confirmation in less than an hour...

It breaks my heart to say this, but if you're dealing in micro payments, it might be a better idear to switch to an altcoin instead...

And pop goes the bubble...

This is what I feared. I suppose I have to weigh the novelty of buying $5 in btc vs the reality of buying $5 in btc.

Yeah, it sucks but right now the fees making sending small amounts of bitcoin uneconomical. Hopefully, a solution can be found that will help make micro transactions more affordable in the near future. Perhaps Segwit will help but we'll see.
475  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Multibit HD to Electrum doesn't work? on: May 28, 2017, 11:30:32 PM
I have some problems with moving my coins from Multibit HD to Electrum..
I have only 1 more transaction left that is unconfirmed in Multibit HD but i wanted to use Electrum. I try to import it with my private keys ( 12 words ) of Multibit HD but nothing happens ? I opened Electrum, go to File, New/Restore, Standard Wallet, I already have a seed. Options: Select BIP39 seed. Paste my Multibit HD seed. Select account 0 and finish. It just shows me i have 0 balance and if i open Multibit HD i can still see my balance. Huh

As far as I know, you cannot import a Multibit HD seed as they are not compatible with Electrum's seed format. You would need to send the funds from Multibit HD to your Electrum wallet and then you could begin using Electrum.
476  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Transaction Fee? on: May 28, 2017, 11:27:52 PM
I've tried to do 3 transactions in the last 24 hours, but they keep getting sent back. For the last attempt I chose the 2nd highest fee option that I could set, which clearly still wasn't enough. I'm assuming the highest fee option still won't be enough?

How can I adjust the maximum fee option? And what size fee would be enough for my transaction to get through?

First, make sure you are running the latest version 2.8.2 . This fixes some issues with fees in older versions.

You should be using the Dynamic Fees option which is very accurate at choosing fee sizes. Moving the slider more to the right will speed up confirms and it will estimate how many blocks it will take for a confirmation.
477  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How safe is a flashdrive? on: May 28, 2017, 03:47:28 AM
Using a hardware wallet would probably be greater security than transferring an ordinary USB stick back and forth between an offline and online PC. I'd recommend looking into a Trezor or Ledger Nano S to secure your funds.

PS: As soon as I get back we will add on-site exchange back Wink

Oh nice, we will have the on-site exchange back again. That will probably bring back a little bit more action to the alts.
479  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Can't restore wallet: help appreciated on: May 28, 2017, 03:42:44 AM
It sounds like you might not be restoring the same wallet. Are you sure that the 13 word seed that you have is for the same wallet you are attempting to restore and not a different one?

I recommend you go to the Addresses tab and compare the addresses in that list. Press Ctrl-A to bring up the Addresses tab. Are you seeing the same addresses or different ones?
480  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Beginner's questions on managing Electrum wallet on: May 26, 2017, 05:16:20 AM
Hi to everyone,

First I'd like to thank all of those on this forum who kindy give help and assistance to us who need support.

I have a couple of questions:

- I use Electrum 2.8.1, and I see that 2.8.2 is available ; should I update ? And if so, does the new version automatically replace the old one ?
- I have copied the file "electrum-2.8.1.exe" from my \C: disk to an external drive. It won't prevent hacking, but does it help if my disk crashes ?  Or is it enough to keep the paper record of my seed in a safe place ?

Thank you.

Yes, it is recommended to upgrade to 2.8.2 as it includes bug fixes.

You don't need to save a copy of the 2.8.1 executable but you can if you wish to. You should be able to restore your seed on any newer version of Electrum without issues.
