461  Economy / Economics / Re: If USD are backed by guns ... on: August 23, 2013, 11:02:27 PM
The Dollar might be backed by faith, force and coercion, but Bitcoin is backed by mathematics and the free people of planet Earth. Pick one.
462  Economy / Economics / Re: The Problem With Altcoins on: August 23, 2013, 10:51:53 PM
I found this to be a biased and mean spirited article. Just take a look at the images and captions.

Also the author cherry picks alts to bash. Namecoin for example brings a lot of innovation to the table due to the innovative use of the generic name/value pair and namespaces of which a decentralized DNS is one of the implementations. (Namecoin emphasizes the value of an open blockchain for purposes other than just currency)

Sure the majority are scamcoins but please don't tar them all with the same brush.
463  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: August 23, 2013, 10:37:59 PM
There will be an uptick in AM once Gen2 is being deployed and sold. After that anything can happen. Mining is turning into an epic battle for a 0 sum endgame. Expect razor thin margins for the mining companies that survive. Personally I believe AM will be among them but the honeymoon is over.
464  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MTgox Account Got Hacked on: August 23, 2013, 01:21:05 AM
I am using Linux , i am IT  so i am pretty sure that the computer is not compromised

The only thing i see possible i did mistake when i started use bitcoin i used same password as bitcointalk

there is no other possible way the password is 8 char long with Upper and lowercase

i can only blame myself that i was not using 2FA but lesson learned i post this that maybe it can help or will help someone in futur

8 char long? So crackable in a few minutes/hours depending on the setup of the cracker. I never use password of less than 16 characters and upper, lower cases and also symbols (!, $, %, etc.) if its possible.

And being in IT and not using 2 factor auth on a site like MtGox should automatically get you fired from your job. Seriously, what were you thinking about?

Plus, working in IT and reusing passwords instead of using unique, random generated ones by default on ALL sites you use is so retarded you should be banned from the IT industry.

Well, beats the Bitcoinica crew.

Those guys were using their public API key as the password and did not bother enabling OTP on Gox even though they were handling tens of thousands of customer bitcoins. Some even labeled themselves "Security Expert". Oh, and they didn't think making a backup of customer data was necessary either.

Of course, I turned out to be the bigger fool for banking with them...

466  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Launch-time charts - 41 currencies - cryptometer.org on: August 22, 2013, 12:21:32 AM
This is one of my favorite sites.

The all week charts for alts are awesome. I especially like the PPC one since it incorporates PoS minting as well. http://cryptometer.org/ppcoin_104_week_charts.html

Thank you!

468  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HASHFAST warranty just TEN DAYS after delivery? on: August 20, 2013, 09:13:06 PM
As a customer I'd be happy with 90 day chip warranty to coincide with the MPP and 1 year equipment warranty (case, PSU, cooler, etc.). Thanks Amy for looking into this.

469  Economy / Speculation / Re: What would happen to the price with a bitcoin funded terrorist attack? on: August 20, 2013, 04:26:16 AM
Maybe I am paranoid but I can imagine a false flag event designed to kick-off the war on cryptocurrencies.
470  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: August 19, 2013, 11:19:00 PM
Imho, it is about time ASICMiner makes the jump to gen2 hardware to stay in pole position.

(assuming friedcat will be able to compete with 55nm hardware in what is rapidly turning into a predominantly 28nm mining world)

Otherwise expect a gradual decline in hashrate coverage, hardware sales, weekly dividends and share price.
471  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL announces 28nm 600GH/S blade for $4680 on: August 17, 2013, 10:25:29 PM
BFL has now officially gone full retard. And so have their customers.
472  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Cointerra GoldStrike System Prices to be Released Soon! on: August 17, 2013, 10:15:48 PM
After the BFL Monarch bombshell today I wonder what they will come out with.
473  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL announces 28nm 600GH/S blade for $4680 on: August 17, 2013, 09:53:16 PM
I'm afraid this is simply a money grab.

BFL gets extra funds and buys additional time by rolling over delivery dates to a new product line. Given their track record I won't touch this with a 10 foot pole.

If you are an existing current gen pre-order I recommend you hold on to it. The queue for the current tech is about to get a whole lot shorter, meaning you will get an actual product earlier.
474  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: August 17, 2013, 06:43:04 PM
Looks like there is a big unknown out there pushing ASICMiner network share into the single digits...

475  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast launches sales of the Baby Jet on: August 17, 2013, 06:13:15 AM
Are they going to calculate ROI in BTC or USD?  Because they are taking payments in BTC so if they are banking on the price of BTC going up to claim ROI in USD terms that is lame.  There haven't been enough specifics to know what their thinking is on this.  My Expectations is that ROI will be in BTC terms since I paid in BTC.

my basic understanding of this is that everything will be calculated in BTC, but yes, you'll have to get it straight from the company.

actually, i believe i remember Simon somewhere buried back in one of these threads said that only enough BTC will be returned to equal the original $5600.  you'd better check on that.

I read through Simon's posts and could find no such thing. Just:

Orders are taken in BTC, in the unlikely event we get to refunds they will be given in BTC.

So I expect refunds to made in accordance to the Bitpay receipt of payment. In my case:

Of course, if HashFast just ships in time and as promised all this is moot.
476  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: HashFast launches sales of the Baby Jet on: August 17, 2013, 03:49:53 AM
Today I received a new order confirmation from HashFast for my august 9 order. It contains the following fine print (emphasis mine):

Quote
Your order is expected to ship between October 20 and October 30, 2013.  Physical delivery of your order will take place within days, depending on the shipment method selected.  HashFast guarantees that all "Baby Jet" units from our first production batch will be delivered by December 31, 2013.  If Buyer ordered one or more Baby Jet units, and HashFast does not deliver such units by that date, then Buyer may at his or her discretion, cancel the undelivered portion and HashFast will issue a full refund the payment for the units that Buyer purchased but did not receive and cancelled.   This cancellation and refund is Buyer's sole and exclusive remedy for HashFast failing to deliver by the December 31, 2013 guaranteed delivery date.  Buyer must cancel the order and request a refund by January 15, 2014 to avail him or herself of this remedy. Buyer to pay all taxes, duties and shipping costs on units delivered.

I did not remember seeing this clause when I ordered an am not very happy about it. Basically they give customers only 15 days recourse to cancel if they don't deliver by December 31st.

I saved a copy of the Terms of Sale when I bought and compared with the current version:

old version:

Quote
DELIVERY AND QUANTITIES.

  • Products shall be delivered EXWORKS (Incoterms 2000) Hashfast’s manufacturing facility, or other facility as designated by Hashfast, unless otherwise agreed in writing between Hashfast and Buyer.  Except for delivery dates explicitly guaranteed in the order confirmation, delivery dates communicated or acknowledged by Hashfast are approximate only, and Hashfast shall not be liable for, nor shall Hashfast be in breach of its obligations to Buyer because of any delivery made within a reasonable time before or after the stated delivery date. Timely delivery requires Buyer to provide all necessary order and delivery information sufficiently prior to the agreed delivery date.
  • In the event Buyer contests delivery, the Buyer must request a proof of delivery from Hashfast within ten (10) days of the date of Hashfast’s invoice or guaranteed delivery date (whichever occurs first), otherwise delivery shall be deemed completed.  If Buyer fails to take delivery, then Hashfast may deliver the Products in consignment at Buyer’s costs and expenses.
  • Buyer will give Hashfast written notice of failure to deliver and thirty (30) days within which to cure, unless the order confirmation explicitly guarantees a delivery date.  In any case, Buyer’s sole and exclusive remedy after such cure period or guaranteed delivery date is to cancel the affected and undelivered portions of the order.
  • No order, Agreement or any part thereof may be rescheduled or cancelled without Hashfast’s prior written consent.

new version:

Quote
DELIVERY AND QUANTITIES.
(a)     Guaranteed Baby Jet Delivery Dates.  All of the 550 Baby Jet units from Hashfast’s first production batch are guaranteed for delivery by December 31, 2013.  If Buyer ordered one or more units of such Baby Jets, and Hashfast does not deliver such units by that date, then Buyer may cancel the undelivered portion of the order at Buyer’s request and Hashfast will refund the payment for the units that Buyer purchased but did not receive and cancelled.   This cancellation and refund is Buyer’s sole and exclusive remedy for Hashfast failing to deliver by the December 31, 2013 guaranteed delivery date, and Buyer must cancel the order by January 15, 2014 to avail itself of this remedy.

(b)     Other Delivery Dates.  Except for the delivery dates described in Section 3(a) above and delivery dates explicitly guaranteed using the words “guaranteed delivery” in the order confirmation sent by Hashfast: (i) delivery dates communicated or acknowledged by Hashfast are approximate only; (ii) Hashfast shall not be liable for, nor shall Hashfast be in breach of its obligations to Buyer because of any delivery made within a reasonable time before or after the stated delivery date; and (iii) Buyer will give Hashfast written notice of failure to deliver and ten (10) days within which to cure. In any case, Buyer’s sole and exclusive remedy after such cure period or guaranteed delivery date is to cancel the affected and undelivered portions of the order, and receive a refund for the undelivered portions that were cancelled.

(c)     Products shall be delivered EXWORKS (Incoterms 2000) Hashfast’ manufacturing facility, or other facility as designated by Hashfast, unless otherwise agreed in writing between Hashfast and Buyer.

(d)     In the event Buyer contests delivery, the Buyer must request a proof of delivery from Hashfast within ten (10) days of the date of Hashfast’ invoice or guaranteed delivery date (whichever occurs first), otherwise delivery shall be deemed completed.  If Buyer fails to take delivery, then Hashfast may deliver the Products in consignment at Buyer’s costs and expenses. Timely delivery requires Buyer to provide all necessary order and delivery information sufficiently prior to the agreed delivery date.  Delivery may also be contingent on full payment.  No order, Agreement or any part thereof may be rescheduled or cancelled without Hashfast’ prior written consent except for cancellations permitted under this Section 3.

Interestingly both the old and the new Terms of Sale are labeled 'HASHFAST ONLINE TERMS OF SALE Ver. 1.B – Revised August 8, 2013' even though they are different.

So only 15 days to get a refund after the December shipping date. Not cool HashFast. Don't get me wrong, I like the MPP you guys have rolled out recently. But changing the Terms of Sale without notifying customers is a bit sneaky TBH. I expect this behavior from a company like BFL, but not HashFast.
477  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ► ► ►HashFast Endorsement on: August 16, 2013, 05:54:51 AM
the original Babyjet itself will be a mid tower case again with standard parts.

Nice. Would be great if the format of the HF boards is ATX or mini-ITX compatible so you can mount them in regular PC cases.

I would love to see an Android custom ROM with native bitcoin support. Maybe something Cyanogen could add in future versions?

480  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL current state of affairs on: August 15, 2013, 04:31:15 AM
BFL is sneaky saying all sales are final.

Very true! Never considered that. A sale != order

+1 to you good sir!
