The first sign of a working rig will be the KnC pool I'd imagine? Not a complete rig ready to ship, but the initial test when they get chips? Seems to me they'd run the first one as soon as they have it put together and the logical thing would be to use their own pool, not for earning BTC but to test the whole system?
I'm not in there 'cos I'm not hosted but is anyone else keeping an eye out for signs of life ?
I look multiple times a day.  I posted about a dream I had that the worker was mining. No such luck.  Will post if/when I see anything.

I've lived in Seoul for more then a year and never heard of even one business besides a tour agency offering DMZ tours that accepts bitcoin.
If you discover any business that do accept bitcoin in Seoul please post them here!
Peace
LOL!  That's great! DMZ, here I come!

P.S.  Specifically, what tour company takes btc?
463  Economy / Economics / Re: Silver on: September 15, 2013, 02:19:30 AM
I like the silver Roman coins. I would buy some of those.
I understand certain coins are cool to have (hence my avatar), but silver is silver is silver is silver.  I don't buy bulk for numismatic investments, only for intrinsic store of value.  Buy 10oz billion bars.  I have a buch of those.  It's on the cheap right now too!

I just plan on buying whatever I can afford, whenever I can.
Hit up some local coin shops too.  Sometimes they'll give you a good deal if they want to unload.  I buy junk silver a lot, usually $1.50-$2 over spot.

E-mailed KNC about pre-configuring multiple machines for hashing and this was the response. For those of us hoping for a BTC windfall during burn-in, we might be disappointed.

Quote

Dear Dana,

If you mention your pool worker in “My Account”, both of your miners will be pre-configured with this information.

The live net burn-in will be done by using your pool and other details that you mention in common information for pre-configuration of your miner.

The burn-in will take about 5-20 seconds.

Okay, this is the part I'm confused about.  We can change the configuration right?  "Burn-in" is not permanent right?  I have a Jupiter coming Day 2 and another in "October."  Maybe I'll just change my info after the first one is "burned-in."
466  Economy / Marketplace / Re: South Korean bitcoin market? on: September 13, 2013, 01:17:36 PM
you can search in google for this all very easy to find this all
I was hoping for a bit of community verification on this. Someone who's been there, not just a google search.

I foresee ASIC development getting so advanced that it will evolve into an artificially intelligent life form (by accident) and the destruction of the human race, matrix style.  The robot's name will be "Orsoc."

I like amagimetals for silver/gold for btc.  Although, if you want to make a huge purchase of silver with cash, Europac Metals is where I go.  10K min on your first purchase.  They have sales and deals from time to time with minimal premiums.  PM me for more details.  As far as silver/BTC prices, check Coinapps.  Best there is.
470  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: is cloudhashing.com a scam?? on: September 13, 2013, 02:41:33 AM
why? calc is  correct, whats wrong? payments are not based  o the real hasrate contracted?
Currently, if you mined on your own with 20Gh, you'd be lucky to get ~3.4 BTC per month.  And that's at current difficulty with a 3% pool fee.  Assuming a 30% fee from CH, as stated here, and a 10% management fee, you would receive ~2.04 BTC/mth, at current dif.

Difficulty is going up in a couple days and CH takes more than 3% of your mined btc's.  That and they are not at 100% capacity yet.  No one knows when that will occur, we're all at the mercy of the Asic manufacturers.  The next estimated difficulty is ~106 mil.  That's ~2.85 btc per month mining on your own.  With the CH 40% fees tacked on, that's ~1.71 BTC per month.

Again, these figures are estimates and are dependent upon CH at 100% capacity.  I'm only estimating the first month of hashing.  If you bought a 20Gh, 2 year contract now, you won't see a payment until late nov/dec, imho.  I think their promises are very overestimated.  Unless BTC price jumps, you won't make that much.  I definitely think you'll money if you're disciplined about saving your BTC.  It's a better bet than sticking your money in a money market account or CD, that's for damn sure.  Again, imho.  Or you could just buy some gold/silver, you're good there too.  OR just buy the BTC right out.  This is purely speculation and very risky.  That $1000 must be money you're willing to lose, not depend upon.

To fully answer your first question, NO, you will not get 3-4 BTC in the first month.  You'll be lucky to get 1.

Shipment by September / October, means it can be October 31st.

48 days to go. Cool
https://www.kncminer.com/news/news-33

"All current paid orders will be shipped no later than October 15th."

That's in regards to Oct orders, not the newly priced orders.  But when is day 1&2 of production?  It's so confusing.

20 days to deadline and still no chip proof?

I don't care. I already setup deadline to 25/9. If I don't receive any information about shipping until Wednesday 25, I will simply ask for refund..

Same here.
I'm calling it now, we will hear of units shipping within the next 12 days... Smiley
i had a dream last night that my btc guild knc worker earned .1 btc.  I woke up and thought it really happened, it just seemed real.  Nothing! Cry
473  Economy / Marketplace / South Korean bitcoin market? on: September 12, 2013, 05:27:26 PM
I'm traveling to S. Korea in the future. Where can I go to find stores in SK that accept bitcoin?  Bars? Clubs?  I've never been there before.  Any websites in English for this?  Thanks!

I also need to purchase a UPS to protect my miners. I was thinking of something like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16842106116

I like this, thanks!  Battery back up is pretty cool. I wander how well that works.
I bought this PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171078
It was ~$50 cheaper when I got it.  I think we're driving up the price.

Edit:  APC makes some really good power protection products.  Problem is there are so many and I have no clue how to shop for one.  I may give them a call to see which one would be best for a Jupiter or two.  Also, no need for a battery back up now that I think of it.  If your power goes out, so does your internet.  With KNC products having internal mining software, how would this work?  Does it keep trying to connect to the internet without intervention?  I'm sure these questions can't be answered right away.  So I'm going to wait on this purchase.  Surge protectors are all we should need for now.

that's not right. If your power goes out but both your modem and router are on a UPS as well, why would your internet go out? I am mining with network devices backed by a UPS as well and I do not loose internet during a power outage. At least as long as the UPS can feed the beasts. You will need a beefy server-grade one like a SmartUPS.

Hope this helps,
   T
Well, in my experience/neighborhood, when my power goes out, so does the whole neighborhood and the internet.  I have Comcast and that's what happens, but I understand your point.

KNC's forum has a thread on PSU's.

I got that PM too.  When I clicked "all" to read the thread, it lead me to this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=288545.0;all

Weird.  I never entered my user/pass, but I changed it anyway.  Thanks!

As fr as the pre-order model is concerned, there is nothing wrong with the model. The problem is the abuse of the pre-order model by some actors (ahem) in the bitcoin space.   I remember someone posting about how they saw an option to "pre-order" an Amazon kindle paperwhite and freaked out for a second.

But like I said, KnC is offering refunds at any point in time, and they are allowing people to pay with credit cards.  That's low risk for the customer.

In fact, it's actually high-risk for KnC because people can order miners, get them and then do charge backs claiming they never got their system, or their CC was stolen, or for that matter  order with a stolen CC or whatever while mining away with ∞% ROI.  I would be... hesitant to go that rout.

I'm sure that it has been discussed before, but I really don't want to go through 400+ pages to find my answer. My question is about the pre-installed cgminer, more exactly, will it also have the "chosen" pool details already on it? Asking cause I've noticed those fields on the knc website where you can enter your pool of option, worker and so on. Or is that part of the knc website intended for customers that chose knc hosting for the miners? Also, is there a problem if 2 or more miners would mine under the same "worker"?

KNC will test your unit with those credentials.  So they will be installed at the factory before they send it to you.
Okay, but what if you ordered 2 Jupiters to be delivered at the same time?  Is that a problem?  We can change the preconfigured info, right?  I'm confused about this.
