4601  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gemini Earn Program Pausing Withdrawals on: November 22, 2022, 08:15:27 PM
edit: just checked gemini it allowed me to xfer btc to my whitelisted addy. so its ok for me.

Ya, I was able to remove nearly everything but I did have a small amount of DOGE that I need to get help setting a withdrawal address for and their customer service seems overwhelmed and giving blanket responses that aren’t helpful. I also had a small amount of ETH staked and they are telling me they won’t do anything about and I can contact them when it can be unstaked on the network. I can only imagine how difficult that is going to be or if I’ll even remember. Seems shady. The worst part is I wasn’t given a reason.
4602  Economy / Speculation / Re: I think that we will see 13500 Dollars In 2022 on: November 22, 2022, 06:51:57 PM
I was saying (in my Slack chat) that we were going to hit $10K when we were touching new highs.  However, now I don't think that's a certainty.  The market has held up better than I expected (although maybe not something you'd say if you invested in Celsius or FTX).  I thought by now the mtgox funds would be getting distributed and the market would be crashing to $10K.  Instead, FTX blew up and now Genesis is blowing up, yet we're still at $16K.  Maybe mtgox will be the final blow as expected, but I think the FTX situation is stress testing the market before that happens.  Could be a good thing if you survive the fallout.
4603  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gemini Earn Program Pausing Withdrawals on: November 22, 2022, 06:47:54 PM
Yes I remember a few years ago someone I know personally asked me about this. I read the terms and found it odd how it says basically "Your funds won't be on Gemini and can't be insured against loss since they will be with a 3rd party". Then it said something like "We vouched for this 3rd party and trust them".

And basically told them, its NOT RISK FREE and just avoid. Back then the yield was crazy high so it was attractive since banks were paying like 0% interest. I remember you could of done a "cash and carry" trade with the bitcoin/ethereum front months and made like 3-5% PER MONTH!

Yields were crazy high back then and I am not surprised many invested their money this way.

Ya, it was crazy that when you sign up they basically tell you that they can take all your crypto and there's nothing you can do about it.  I'll admit I still dove in with some crypto and cash to enjoy that return.  I did however remove all my funds at the first sign of trouble and managed to beat this announcement and get all of my funds off the earn platform.  I thought I had lucked out and my paranoia about the crypto market had paid off once again (I learned my lesson after mtgox).  However, now I have received an email from Gemini that they have closed my account and disabled trading...  I'm not sure if I'm caught up in something or if it's against Gemini's rules to not have your money stolen using their platform, but hopefully I'm able to resolve it or else it's back to Kraken or Coinbase for trading and I had really preferred Gemini.
4604  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 22, 2022, 06:44:25 PM
When we were bouncing around at $18K I was telling myself that I think the next leg down will be the one to buy.  As we dip into the 15's I can't help but think this is the dip people have been waiting for.  There's still a ton of uncertainty and even more bad news on the horizon, but I think we've gone low enough in the short term (once this Genesis stuff is cleared up).  I think we're likely to start seeing a runup before the halving soon, with a small crash as we go into the halving and people cash out profits, followed by the start of the next bull run.  That's how it's gone in the past anyway.
4605  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: November 22, 2022, 06:42:06 PM
I'm seeing a lot of close NBA games on the schedule today (3 out of 4 anyway).  The only game that seems like it'll be a blowout is the Nuggets vs the Pistons.  I feel pretty good about the Nuggets winning that game, but the odds don't really make it worth gambling on.  Maybe it would be a good bet to add on to a parlay in order to boost the returns on your other bets.  I do think the spread is a bit large on the Nets/76ers game, but maybe someone is out with an injury that I'm not aware of.  I won't be gambling today, but if I were, I'd feel pretty good about betting the Nuggets to win and the 76ers to beat the spread (but probably lose to the Nets).
4606  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is gambling unethical? on: November 22, 2022, 06:39:04 PM
I think that gambling can be unethical, but so long as you're doing it for entertainment, it's legal where you are gambling, and you are using your own money that was legally obtained, I don't see any reason why it would be unethical.  However, if you're stealing funds to gamble, you have insider knowledge you're exploiting, you're gambling illegally, or you're doing it purely to try and make money, then you might say it could be considered unethical.  You might even say someone with an addiction that gambles behind their partner's back is also unethical.

Conclusion, bet your own money for fun in a legal jurisdiction and don't hide it.
4607  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: It's on! 2024 US Presidential Election Biden+Harris Vs Trump Bitcoin betting.... on: November 22, 2022, 06:33:43 PM
In post two I'll post odds and websites taking wagers.

I don't see any websites taking these bets yet and I agree with others that it is way too soon anyway.  Biden is not aging wonderfully and there's no promise he'll be able to physically run for reelection come 2024.  Every time I see him speak on TV the last few months, I'm astonished that they'd let someone so obviously beyond the age of coherence be President.  I don't think him running again is realistic, but I hope he does because he would get his ass kicked, which would be best for this country.

When I can, I'll be betting on whatever Republican candidate is running.  I've heard enough talk about vaccines and seen enough child grooming to know the current administration doesn't have the people's best interests in mind.
4608  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: November 22, 2022, 06:29:40 PM
We only have 4 games, and I'm interested to see Lakers vs Phoenix Suns.

We might only have 4 games, but it's a holiday week (in the US) and two of those four games are on TNT!  That means I'll be able to watch as Shaq, Chuck, Kenny, & EJ have some holiday fun and enjoy some good matchups.  The Nets vs 76ers are up first and that should be a great game.  We may get to see Kyrie in action and KD has been on fire as of late, so I'm expecting that to be a good watch.  Then we have Lakers vs Suns after that, which is usually a good game.  The Lakers have punished the Suns over the years and the Suns have been getting them back lately.  Plus, Devon Booker has been on fire since he broke up with Kendal Jenner.  Playing against LA he'll definitely be looking to make a statement.

Plus, the Kings play today.  Their light they shine up in the sky after wins is quite the ordeal in Sacramento.
4609  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I Am So Done With Betting Until.... on: November 22, 2022, 06:26:37 PM
I think I am one of the unluckiest gambler/bettor out here, today is one of my worst days again and I think I should quit betting.

I went all in on Argentina thinking their match against Saudi Arabia would be an easy win for them, and the fact that the odds were so far away against Saudi Arabia winning while it was in huge favor of Argentina caused me to be so sure that Argentina was going to win the match, and then, I went all in, hoping to make some big wins just like yesterday, but now, everything is gone, in just a twinkle of an eye...
Argentina is a big disappointment, It's still hard to believe, I quit betting until I am able to forget this experience entirely.

These things happen.  You can't get down over it.  Instead, you got an introduction to what gambling is, which is entertainment.  Think of how much more emotion you had when watching that game because you had money on the line.  That's gambling.  It's excitement.  The idea that you could make or lose money based on what you see.  The fact you came here to post this shows that you've had an extremely emotional reaction to your bet, which is what is supposed to happen.  If it is extremely disappointing for you like this post indicates, that means you wagered too much.  Lower you bets and learn to enjoy the ride.  That's what it's about.

4611  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 21, 2022, 07:00:51 PM
Market looks like it’s starting to slowly break down. The bullish patterns keep breaking to the downside and the bad news just keeps coming in. This seems to be the part of the musical chairs game where the music has stopped and the players are all looking for their seats. All eyes are on Genesis this week to see if Gemini Earn users are going to be able to access their funds or if this will be another mtgox/FTX situation. Hopefully they can figure it out and backstop this drop before we find ourselves back at $10K.
4612  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: November 21, 2022, 06:56:17 PM
Connor McGregor calling out Khabib over Khabib taking shots at him was something I didn’t really expect, but Connor wants to make it seem like Khabib retired to not have to fight him again. I’d personally love to see them run it back again, but I’d rather see McGregor fight a striker than a grappler. I want to see another one of those knockout punches not more tapping. I really hope we get to see McGregor in the octagon again in the next 8 months.
4613  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crypto dump is just getting started? on: November 21, 2022, 08:03:10 AM
This week we’ll likely find out if Genesis is going to fail or if they’ll be able to raise a billion dollars and make their lenders whole. If they can’t, it’s another big loss for crypto users and the market price will likely reflect that. We may also get more news on GBTC and if they did something dumb with their coins and are now leaving investors high and dry. Volatility is likely incoming soon so strap on your seatbelts and stick to your plans.
4614  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: November 21, 2022, 06:13:34 AM
The Warriors just ended the road curse.  Grin
Steph Curry celebrating like a thorn was pulled out from his body. A lot of things have to be celebrated though and one of them is Klay Thompson who had been playing better in their last two games.
He finished the game with 10/13 in 3-point shots, that's the Klay we loved to watch. Steph had 33 points and 15 assists.
The splash brothers are back!

Ya, it was crazy how many road games they lost. It’s now the longest dry streak for a defending champion. I loved seeing that Klay is back. He needed this. Combining to score 74 points with Steph is scary. Splash Brothers are definitely back.

Anthony Davis had another big night as the Lakers smashed the Spurs and won another game while LeBron James is out with an injury.
4615  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 20, 2022, 10:10:27 PM
The GBTC situation is starting to get interesting. There are rumors going around that they lost their coins after they tweeted that they couldn’t publish proof of holdings because of security issues… If GBTC lost their coins in the Genesis blowup things could get real interesting. That would lead to so many different regulatory and market scenarios that I’m anxious to see how it plays out. One thing I believe will be certain, in several months we’ll all be wishing for the kind of price stability we’re seeing now.
4616  Economy / Goods / Re: ~ Buying a TESLA CYBERTRUCK with BITCOIN ~ on: November 20, 2022, 10:05:39 PM
There are some unsubstantiated claims going around on Twitter that Tesla will be handmaking and delivering 30 trucks next month. No idea if this is true or not but I’d believe it just so Elon could say he was right when he said end of this year they’d start delivering. Most analysts are thinking it will be summer before any meaningful number of trucks are being produced. I still think it will likely be the second half of 2024 before I get my hands on one.
4617  Economy / Speculation / Re: Hacker of FTX dumping ETH for BTC on: November 20, 2022, 06:50:46 PM
I think most people believe this wasn’t a hacker but a backdoor setup for Sam to grab his golden parachute as he jumps out of the plane. I’m not surprised the “hacker” would rather sit on BTC than ETH. Hopefully this dumping means that the end of this FTX saga won’t be too far away, at least for markets. Users likely have a multi-year fight ahead of them to try and recover anything they thought they owned.
4618  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: November 20, 2022, 08:40:52 AM
How about John Wall dishing out 15 assists coming off the bench for the Los Angeles Clippers in their win over the San Antonio Spurs. Paul George had an efficient night shooting 5-8 from three point range and 8-12 from the field. Best game of the night had to be between the Timberwolves and the 76ers though with the Timberwolves squeaking out a 3 point win.
4619  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: November 19, 2022, 08:29:33 PM
Besides the Dwight Howard heroics to bring his team back from behind to win there was some other interesting things that happened last night. Google Giannis and you’ll see that after the game against the 76ers (where Joel Embiid flagrant fouled him) he tried to get some extra shots up but there were stadium workers with a ladder in the way. Giannis pushed the ladder aside once and then knocked it over when they didn’t get the hint. Eventually Montrez Harrell took the ball from Giannis and told him to go home.
4620  Economy / Gambling / Re: I am opening a crypto casino / sportsbook what should we add? on: November 19, 2022, 05:02:33 PM
The 2 most important things in my opinion if you are thinking of starting an online crypto casino are 1) proof of reserves (might as well use crypto to prove you aren’t stealing from users) & 2) showing that your games are probably honest. Crypto allows for a great deal of transparency that is rarely used by casinos.

As a bonus, it would be amazing if bets were all done on the blockchain and no account was necessary to play and no deposits were accepted.
