My Russian is a little rusty, but to me it reads as if some guy is trying to sell one of his kidneys to buy one of those $29K+ rigs: http://www.kharkovforum.com/showthread.php?t=2559118&page=3

Yep, it's definitely rusty. The guy is claiming he wants it to start a foundation for poor or orphan children or something like that, and others are making fun if him because he's refusing to be more specific, so they are telling him to sell a kidney. There's only one comment that a BFL product can earn back €20k euro easily, but it seems to be otherwise ignored.
4603  Other / Off-topic / Re: Hi, my name is Sonny Vleisides on: September 21, 2012, 02:33:32 PM
I love it! Comparing me to a convicted felon that stole at least $19 million dollars from stupid little old ladies in an elaborate international scheme.

FTFY. Seriously, I'm surprised no one pointed that out. One old guy spent $600+ a month on this and even refinanced his house? WTF?! Just because you're older, doesn't mean people should expect you to be dumber and more vulnerable. The opposite in fact (more experienced). Not saying the scam was wrong, but there are A LOT of stupid people out there (plenty of examples on this forum), and their age really shouldn't matter.

The truth is simply that I am appalled by this crime and even more appalled that very few people on this forum seem to have the reading comprehension to see that it does not match Mr. Vleisides' description in the least.

Have you considered the possibility that most of the people read the first few posts describing the situation, read Sonny's reply, made up their own mind, and are simply keeping quiet, because, aside from the initial investigation documents and Sonny's reply, there is absolutely nothing more to add other than baseless speculations? Have you considered that everyone here IS actually as smart as you, figured all the things you mentioned on their own already, and aside from the factual info already given, most people just don't give a crap?
4604  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Re: Butterfly Labs CEO 25 Million USD Mail Fraud — A Concise Summary of Evidence on: September 21, 2012, 02:10:50 PM
Josh also mentioned that they will do a day when they test the new ASIC rigs out on the real Bitcoin Network, and all the BTC mined for that one day they will give out to the developers.

Let me get this straight: They will test the machines on main-net for 24 hours, driving up difficulty into who knows where and divvy up the BTC among themselves, before sending out the machines to customers?

Is that what Josh said?

Who else was witness to this?

Can I quote this?

developers =! themselves
4605  Other / Off-topic / Re: [Announcement] Butterfly Labs on: September 21, 2012, 01:57:32 PM
500 units per day ? that's a unit every "less than 3 minutes" just to assemble, what about testing, baking and packing ? unless the machine assembles several units at once.

Or you have 10 people taking 30 minutes per unit.
4606  Other / Off-topic / Re: Can an anonymous entity win a nobel prize ? on: September 20, 2012, 11:55:08 PM
Satoshi could post his bitcoin address to receive the prize to, and sign it with his publicly available PGP key to prove that it's him and that he's alive.
4607  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Butterfly Labs CEO 25 Million USD Mail Fraud — A Concise Summary of Evidence on: September 20, 2012, 11:06:41 PM
They produce high quality  machines,

Have you seen the insides of a FPGA minirig? I did. They're slapped together with velcro, hot glue and 10 cent Chinese unpowered USB hubs. I'm not even joking.

I'm not sure how this is a bad thing. They saved money on USB hubs, didn't waste time drilling them, and didn't bother investing in custom built hardware, thus saving lost of money, AND they came up with a way to make all the components easily replaceable if something breaks. What's the problem?
4608  Other / Off-topic / Re: TOWN HALL (prep) Meeting: Butterfly Labs on: September 20, 2012, 03:44:20 PM
Who is the treasurer/CFO of the company? I.e. who is in charge of the money, Sonny himself, or a separate person without a conflict of interest?
When a BTC payment is sent, are all funds kept in BTC, or are they all converted to USD? And who's account does the money go to?

Asking because one setup let's the owner abscond with the funds (like pirate), the other keeps the funds in the company.
4609  Other / Off-topic / Re: What we've learnt today. on: September 20, 2012, 04:19:03 AM
I learned that the guy behind Butterfly Labs (ASICs people) has some very shady history.

Glad I've found this thread. I am in the process of moving a considerable amount of money from USD to BTC, which, due to all the restrictions, will take a few weeks (About a month at least. I hate our fiat system)

I imagine it will take ages especially going in the opposite direction in your sig.

Huh. Totally forgot about that sig. But nah, Dwolla has a $5,000 limit, and takes a whole damn week thanks to not working on weekends. Do the math.
(Now I just need the feds to come down on me for attempting to circumvent reporting a large transfer by making multiple below-$10k transfers  Roll Eyes)

Someone needs to accept this challenge, fire up Vanitygen, and generate a bunch of 1tungsten addresses to fill Bitcoin with!

Glad I've found this thread. I am in the process of moving a considerable amount of money from USD to BTC, which, due to all the restrictions, will take a few weeks (About a month at least. I hate our fiat system). That BTC's intended destination is BFL. I guess they have a few weeks to reassure me.

Though the obnoxious trolls aren't helping any, either. (I believe "shilling" does not involve outright disclosures that one is representing another for money)

http://www.llg.org.au/ this is an organisation that could use some financial support. They fund suicide counselling and community support from money raised in their second hand stores.

Also, resent a notice to the remaining charities that have yet to respond (letsfcancer.com, goods4good.org, pencilsofpromise.org, and cfy.org) with the following:

Hi. I just wanted to make sure that you received our prior e-mail. Please let me know if you have any questions.

TL;DR version:
  • Add a Bitcoin address to your website (could be as simple as just text. Example of ours is 1BTC1oo1J3MEt5SFj74ZBcF2Mk97Aah4ac)
  • Within days, receive about $1,000USD worth of bitcoin.
  • We will help you set up methods to easily convert it to USD or any other world currency, or point you to where you can do that yourself.
4614  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: bitfloor needs your help! on: September 18, 2012, 05:31:41 PM
I hold the private keys to a bitcoin address, I associate this address with an order, and place an order. Local software (in my browser or elsewhere) initiates the trade when the correct conditions are met. The exchange gives me fiat in my account after I send bitcoins, and confirms it after 6 confirmations.

Trolls manipulate Bitcoin prices by placing lots of orders they never follow through on?
4615  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I'm giving 100% ROI away to anyone who thinks pirate is a fraud on: September 18, 2012, 02:30:15 PM
I'm not a sock puppet and can easily prove it (хотя бы вот так, Мэтью не разговаривает по-русски).

Ой, спасибо! Я понятия не имел как его имя писать по русски. Думал может Мат, но "Я с матом говорю" не очень хорошо звучит.
4616  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I'm giving 100% ROI away to anyone who thinks pirate is a fraud on: September 18, 2012, 02:20:26 PM
i'd forgive him if he would make a - even a small - payment to all his bet-takers

No you wouldn't. It wouldn't change your opinion of him in the least, nor would it change anyone else's, sine he would be doing this after the fact, and after being told to, not out of his own volition, and thus not because of his own "good moral" character.

It would be about as useful and effective as having a kid say "I'm sorry" because his mom is standing there making him say it.
4617  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I'm giving 100% ROI away to anyone who thinks pirate is a fraud on: September 18, 2012, 12:42:19 AM
I think at least Bruce Wagner has served his time right, he might deserve a second chance, but MNW, he is never going to be punished for this, and unless he pay what people are owed, I think he is not worthy of a second chance.

Just FYI, based on my private PMs, MNW is getting very punished for all of this.
4618  Economy / Services / Re: Introducing the Bitcoin 100: A Kickstarter for Charities on: September 18, 2012, 12:39:00 AM
Correct. That was a donation that went to a group that is doing medical stuff in Kenya. The reason there is more than one transfer is because, often, after we agree to send money and a big chunk of money is sent, someone inevitably pipes in with, "Oh crap, I was away and didn't notice the donation, here's my money, send it too."

And, again, we really need to step up our solicitations. I'll e-mail the few that haven't responded again.
4619  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: I'm giving 100% ROI away to anyone who thinks pirate is a fraud on: September 17, 2012, 06:08:31 PM
I had a bet, and I would have paid. I've also been specific in explaining that what he did wasn't a joke, and shouldn't be taken lightly.
That said, I agree with you. In the grand scheme of things, he has contributed a lot, at the end has established a pretty bad reputation. So, going forward, I think everyone can make their own judgements as to how they wish to interact with him. Considering the fallout he's going through in his personal business life, I think he's had enough punishment, so, personally, although still being wary around him, I see no reason to continue being angry with him. Personally.
4620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: eWallet recommendation? on: September 17, 2012, 01:22:16 PM
I use a combination of paper wallets from bitaddress.org and blockchain.info for my savings (will move to Armory in a short while). Basically, blockchain.info has my savings addresses as watch only, and if I need to pull money out, I add the private key from the paper printout, create a transaction, and delete the private key again. I'm still vulnerable during that period, but luckily I don't need to withdraw much. And having it on watch-only makes it easy to add money to my savings accounts.
