I've made a 25 Mh/s (R9 290) groestlcoin/diamond/etc. kernel for sph-sgminer or derivates. It took months of work.
Convince me to opensource it! (or make an offer)

pallas,

You should open source it and then ask for donations like everyone else does with open source programs they develop.

Put you name on it, get some donations, and, more importantly, get a good name for yourself and continue to progress.

The most important part of that is the good name for yourself. If people see you've done a good job, not only will they donate, but they'll also start working with you. Think about it. It works for honest hardworking folks all the time.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

End of the optimized kernel experiment! :-)
Everybody pushed for an opensource release and nobody made an offer.
I'm happy that it ended like this as I strongly belive in opensource.

**** MYRIAD GROESTL ****

If you are looking for the closed source myriad groestl miner (for DGB, SFR, etc.) look here instead:

https://satoshibox.com/fttcfvpiyhbod7ueidmgdhym

ABOUT

This is my optimized Groestlcoin / Diamond and similar opencl kernel (groestl + groestl algorythm, not myriad-groestl which is groestl + sha, see the top of this post for the latter).
It is based on the sph version originally available on sph-sgminer but is now totally rewritten.
It should be compatible with all sph-sgminer versions and derivates.

PERFORMANCE

v1 - to be compiled with catalyst 14.6 or 14.7:

R9 290x @1125 Mhz: ~26.4 Mh/s
R9 290 @1200: ~25 Mh/s
R9 280x (stock): ~18 Mh/s
7950 @1200: ~16 Mh/s
R9 270X: ~9.7 Mh/s

v2 - experimental hawaii only bin:

R9 290x @1125 Mhz: ~34.4 Mh/s
R9 290 @1100: ~30.6 Mh/s

Wolf0's Tahiti binary:

R9 280x: ~25 Mh/s

HOW TO USE

- Stop the miner
- Replace groestlcoin.cl, diamond.cl and/or the kernel you want to use with this one (it's inside the "kernel" folder)
- Remove all the .bin files (in the main folder)
- Set worksize to 256 only (-w 256)
- Run and enjoy!

TWEAKING

Set intensity from 20 to 22. Thread concurrency and all the other parameters are useless.
This kernel doesn't make use of gpu ram, so set the ram clock to THE MINIMUM POSSIBLE VALUE; for example 150 MHz for R9 290.
Now play with the core clock until you find the highest stable value (probably between 1100 and 1200 for the R9 290).

COMPATIBILITY

Tested working stable on R9 290, 280x and 7950. Should work on any recent amd gpu but performance is not guaranted to be optimal.
I doesn't work with cryptohunger optimized pool: use the conventional port or another pool. Also do not replace the optimized kernel of grs-sgminer but the normal one.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Try the following:
- Sure you set worksize to 256?
- Replace the generated .bin file with this one (64 bit, r9 280(x) and 290(x) only): LINK EXPIRED (diamondHawaiiw256l8.bin), see below for a newer binary file
- Lower the intensity
- Lower the core speed (are you sure you put the ram clock to the lowest possible value?)
- Since it uses more power, it could be a cooling issue too: check the gpu temperature

DONATIONS

This work took me months of coding and testing and unslept nights; please show your appreciation (you are making more money by using it!) by donating to:

we didnt pay srcxxx to give his closed source miner code opensource
we wont pay you

we understand the word open source it seem different

still congrats to reverse engineer what srcxxx have running since months

the real achievement would be to break his closed source monopol and not play the same game

I didn't reverse engineer anything, it's all my work, it's faster than srcxxx and I did it months before he did.
It even worked at almost same speed before catalyst 14 came out, so a very different beast than his.
I don't like how srcxxx and others are working (hidden fees etc.) that's why I'm trying to find alternatives.
I'm an opensource programmer and always will be!

How many Mh/s you get on a R9 280x with your miner?

never had a 280x but I suppose around 20 (7950 does almost 16)

Was it tested thoroughly?

yes, no hardware errors at all.

I was thinking about the mobile wallet (android or whatever) and PoS.
Suppose we apply a technology similar to the mini-blockchain of cryptonite coin; could minting work in such an environment?

Presuming you built if off another kernel, and didn't write it from scratch without reference to any public domain opensource software - by the license agreement associated with that public domain base/reference software your code must be made public domain.  That is how open-source works...

I know pretty well how opensource works. I am an opersource programmer for 20 years now.
The code was initially based on sph but is now completely rewritten, so I can license it as I like. Or simply avoid publishing it.

being on a good exchange is important, but not enough to raise volume.
maybe the coin needs more (media) exposure, or some other idea to gain investors interest.

I see. And buy demand should hopefully raise DMD price and make "native" mining more profitable (or we will loose too much hashrate).

about cloudmining, I'd be interested to know more about the infrastructure; i.e. will you be building your own mining firm or will you rent it? where will it be located? etc.

PoS related question: I have a few DMD on various wallets, which are mature and currently receive PoS minted Diamonds. Will I lose future PoS payments if I move all coins to a new wallet? Or will they still be considered 'mature' coins after sent to a new address?

you loose all coinage when you transfer the coins.
unless it's a move inside a wallet, which doesn't imply a "real" transaction.
