4621  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: July 12, 2017, 05:21:51 PM
Is it not concerning that there is such a huge delta between the bittrex and hitbtc prices of AEON?
4622  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: July 11, 2017, 02:33:09 PM
Bought a shitload of monero on the dip. Other than BTC or Monero, maybe LTC, there is nothing but crap out there.

You just outlined my entire crypto portfolio (aside from a couple little gambits I do not expect to do anything).  And I can't believe I ended up in Litecoin.

Plot thickens...

Could be bogus... hard to say.  Truth is, though, this has crypto/xmr consequences...  time to make money.
4624  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: July 08, 2017, 07:00:08 PM
The utility of Monero is very limited and basically it is just another shitcoin.
In my opinion, the current price is very lucrative selling opportunity - after all it is like 4-5 times higher than 1 year ago.

Not making this up... I read this and immediately bought 4btc more monero.

I value your input.

Good luck with your investment then I guess....
Thanks.  I will accept either outcome.  But it is obvious my opinion.  Unfortunately for me 4BTC is but a whisp of what I've lost in my adventures at sea.  In fact I better make aure7 I did not leave the seed words for this wallet on the dashboard of the pontoon!  Brb.

CryptoKingdom died?  I see posts from rptelia from just a few days ago about it.

Always wondered if it ever actually became a game instead of a spreadsheet and a role playing thread but never got around to checking.  How's he a scammer?
Exit scam.  He ran off with 7 figures.   I am very sympathetic to those who lost money, but good riddance IMO.

Thing is, if bitcoin tanks... doesn't it rake the whole space down with it?

When it comes to Litecoin I cannot agree. Over the short term yes Litecoin could do very well if Bitcoin seizes up even more due to the 1 MB blocksize limit; however from the long term fundamental point of view Litecoin has the same issue as Bitcoin. Think Bitcoin with a 4 MB blocksize limit. This only kicks the can down the road.

I agree with your analysis.  My position is planned to be short term.  I see this as a 2-3 month play.  I've already sold off enough to cover the original investment too.
4630  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: June 23, 2017, 03:38:29 PM
It would be great if XBT 1 august hassle would make some investors to find XMR as a safe coin.
I do think there's a good chance that that will happen, as it seems that Litecoin and Monero are both stable and at a decent price; so they'd make a good hedge against volatility.

I agree with this.  A few weeks ago I took out (to my surprise) my first real position in Litecoin as I see it as having a new potential for use cases it did not have for years.

I did not, however reduce my tiny XMR position.
4631  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: June 23, 2017, 01:33:55 AM

They banned discussion of Bitcoin for years, until they had to concede defeat by Honey Badger.

But now they love getting paid XMR to benchmark their 1337 rigz!   Cheesy

Huge increase in net hashrate, difficulty was from BOTNET. it's clearly seen on the graph of monero net hqashrate (A sharp increase in network hashrate by more than 10Mh within few hours). Same thing was in May, when was found another trojan. Or do you really think that 200K+ machines was connected to the monero network within a few hours and this is not botnet? LOL.
The sad side of all of this - the fallen profit by 18-20% due to the increased net difficulty on same amount.

It's not sad for hashrate to go up.
4632  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: June 21, 2017, 09:10:37 PM
To the extent botnets are being used to mine Monero they are not so much decentralizing as they are securing the network.  It could be assumed that very powerful botnets could be used to CENTRALIZE the network.  But this is likely only theoretical since as we grow it will become prohibitively expensive to aim that much power at the Monero blockchain.

Botnet's do not cause the Monero blockchain to be decentralized.  The fact the Monero blockchain is truly decentralized causes botnets.

But botnets secure the blockchain by employing a large number of individual CPUs to mine which makes attacking the blockchain harder just the same as the miners of bitcoin do.

I personally see botnet involvement in a similar light to dark web markets.  In fact I see them as a little more negative as they are abusive by nature.  And since I am not an anarchist or someone with Asperger's syndrome I have a hard time accepting them as a net positive for Monero.  I think they are not.

But we cannot be a truly decentralized, fungible, unregulated monetary system without them.  They are a side effect of our success.

Wild west gonna wild west.

Oh boy! Dao and masternodes!!
When monroe gonna be that?
Waiting for announcement....

Come on.  Let's at least finish the ICO before we start announcing masternodes and a DAO for Romero.

Why do people let counter parties control the private keys to their crypto?

4635  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: June 14, 2017, 05:40:59 PM

Many shitcoins take over xmr one after another just because they are marketed well. Due to lack of proper PR, marketing, official site and so on, people do not really know what xmr, privacy and fungibility are. Once these are fixed, the price will start increase. Even without and before any significant update to xmr code.

So lets go on.

Let the XMR team do the code and we rest may do the marketing. Twice a month at least youtube video. Blogs and posts to the reddit and other such sites. Invent by yourself.

To me this argument is really starting to resemble "When will we get a GUI wallet?" 2.0
4636  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: June 12, 2017, 05:53:35 PM
My speculative thoughts run currently along these lines.

1.  The majority of bullshit alts MUST fail.  I'm not even counting ETH.  That's it's own bullet point.  But Dash?  Bytecoin?  A hundred other scammy projects?

2.  As to ETH... it does offer interesting tech.  But..
     a. It has broken (and forked) once.  It will almost certainly break again.
     b. No one really knows if we actually NEED the tech ETH offers.

When these things happen we will see the value of the ALTS drop wildly.

Questions:

What will happen to BTC?  Seems like lot's of money flees back to it.
What will happen to XMR? It has always run a bit contrary to the ALT runup.  Will it reciprocate in the altpocalypse?

Will XMR drop, hold or rise with BTC?

Or... is all that rambling misplaced, and the crypto markets are on a healthy realistic trajectory?   Shocked
4637  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: June 12, 2017, 02:55:24 PM
mining emission does not change.
And?
In case if big amount of coins sells immediately once they mined then it's made pressure on price

One other thing...  whatever selling pressure might be created by botnet masters is simply nothing in comparison to the LACK of buying interest in comparison to the other major cryptos.

14 coins are currently trading higher volumes than XMR.

Bitshares volume is 10x Monero's so far for today.

Healthy buying interest should easily overcome the amount being sold by botnet herders.

But it is not, currently.

I believe your analysis is spot on.  But your suggestion that the devs do something...

1.  What do you expect them to do?  This is just one side-effect of the cryptonote CPU mining strategy.

2.  Even if there WAS something they could do, I doubt they would since the cypherpunk/freedom/decentralized values run deep in the project and it's devs.

A monthly subscription of $39 a month is required after reading a certain number of free articles.

Edit: Can it be found anywhere else?

You might take a look at the cached page in google. Wink

From the point of view of economics, what do you see the main problem with Dash?

Money needs to be a store of value, means of exchange and measure of value. What are the characteristics of money that Dash is lacking?

To be a store of value an asset must either be issued by an extremely powerful and relatively trustworthy central entity (USD) or be as close to trustless as possible (BTC XMR).  Dash is exactly neither of these.

To be a means of exchange an asset should be in use aside from speculation. (USD BTC XMR)  Not so much dash.

To be a measure of value?  Just about anything fits that bill.

Dash is a centralized, pre-mined, ponzi scheme.
