Besides the Dwight Howard heroics to bring his team back from behind to win there was some other interesting things that happened last night. Google Giannis and you’ll see that after the game against the 76ers (where Joel Embiid flagrant fouled him) he tried to get some extra shots up but there were stadium workers with a ladder in the way. Giannis pushed the ladder aside once and then knocked it over when they didn’t get the hint. Eventually Montrez Harrell took the ball from Giannis and told him to go home.
4662  Economy / Gambling / Re: I am opening a crypto casino / sportsbook what should we add? on: November 19, 2022, 05:02:33 PM
The 2 most important things in my opinion if you are thinking of starting an online crypto casino are 1) proof of reserves (might as well use crypto to prove you aren’t stealing from users) & 2) showing that your games are probably honest. Crypto allows for a great deal of transparency that is rarely used by casinos.

As a bonus, it would be amazing if bets were all done on the blockchain and no account was necessary to play and no deposits were accepted.
4663  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S17 Pro vs. S17+ on: November 19, 2022, 04:59:36 PM
From my limited experience with an S17 Pro, I would say to avoid them if possible. Mine rarely ever ran close to the advertised speed and boards went bad so frequently that it was basically a complete waste of money. Not sure if I was just extremely unlucky, but I would say it was my worst experience with mining hardware and reliability. Maybe not as bad as the old CoinTerra machines, but for the time the S17 came out it seems extremely unreliable.
4664  Economy / Speculation / Re: Cold storage ALL your crypto or withdraw fiat into your bank account NOW!!! on: November 19, 2022, 04:56:20 PM
GBTC is almost reaching 50% discount to Bitcoin. There is speculation that the fund might have to liquidate to save Genesis.

Currently each share holds $15.19 worth of Bitcoin on the fund, however you can buy a share for $8.10 which means its currently trading at a 46.6% discount.

Basically its like buying bitcoin at $8800. A price not seen since Covid crash pretty much.

That fund has always looked very enticing, but with such high fees you’re almost making a bet on the fund being liquidated or approved to convert to an ETF before fees and investor fatigue craters your investment. I think a lot of people don’t understand that dynamic and invest based on the premium alone, which is why so many people have lost money with it. However, we are nearing a point where the fees are worth the risk in order to capture the premium while Bitcoin is cheap. I’ve never owned any GBTC, but I’m considering adding some to a retirement account.

I guess no Lebron, no problem for the Lakers.  Tongue
Just a bit off-topic but still related I guess, it's all about Dwight Howard. I've watched his first game on T1 League and I've seen the crowd, it's big although too far big, and smaller compared to NBA as usual. But the warm welcome of the fans there is absolutely amazing. The game was close against the DEA, and it got an OT. He's got their win, got a double-double and the fans are really happy seeing and watching him live.

Once LeBron comes back, the Lakers will start lossing again lol. Hope LeBron will come up with a better plan once he come back. I know he's been studying how his teammate plays, so he took the rest.

On the other hand Dwight Howard was having fun in a Taiwan Basket League. He did a great job entertaining the crowd. I guess that was a sold out arena, all because of him.
It's just funny how he took more 3s in that game than in his whole career in the NBA. Not a bad thing though, as he is exploring to expand his range.

Dwight was definitely having a time. He shot 10 3s!!! He finally ended his first game with 38 points to go along with 25 rebounds, 9 assists, and 4 blocks. He really should still be in the NBA. He’s probably a top 10 center in the world and I think he’s been blackballed from the NBA for his off the court behavior, which is questionable for anyone not living in San Francisco, who ironically didn’t even want to give him a 1 year contract (Warriors).

How about Booker putting up 49 in a 1 point loss to the Jazz tonight… He had a great night also getting 8 rebounds and 10 assists. Markkanen had a super efficient scoring night for the Jazz that was though to overcome. He shot 15-18 from the field which is pretty insane. I’m guessing that was probably the best shooting night he’s had in his career. A shame the Suns couldn’t pull this one out.
4667  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 19, 2022, 02:56:11 AM
Bitcoin looking eerily stable as volume drops back down to normal.  Seems like somebody is doing some buying and keeping a floor on the price.  The trading range over the last few days is only a few percent.  That to me signals that some sort of market change might be happening.  This is probably a point in time where you don't want to be the guy who capitulated at $16K after riding out the bubble through $60K.  It feels a lot like the pain is coming to an end soon and good times are right around the corner for Bitcoin speculators.
4668  Economy / Speculation / Re: What are the chances of FTX raising funds... on: November 18, 2022, 06:06:46 PM
I don’t think people are stupid enough to trust FTX again, even though the celebrities caught with now worthless stakes in the company are acting like they would lend to Sam again, it’s clear they’re saying it only with the hope of being able to recover something. Likely these same people will be suing Sam once this mess is over and they will suddenly have a change of heart. Don’t touch FTT, don’t touch FTX, and if you’re lucky enough to have gotten your funds off of exchanges before all this happened, celebrate and get ready for the next shoe to drop.
4669  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bahamas Govt. Ordered SBF to Hack FTX on: November 18, 2022, 04:18:01 PM
"Hack" is quite a weird word to use in this case. Would it technically be a "hack" if SBF had access to FTX's back-end system in the first place?

This was my exact thought. The media is trying to make it seem like he’s not just some bitch thief who got caught stealing and is doing what any bitch does, give up everything to try and save himself. Let’s be honest… He didn’t hack anything. He had access to the funds and the Bahamian government said you can go to prison or you can give us all the money in your exchange, so he gave up all the money so he could go home instead of a cell. He’s not some brilliant hacker. He’s a con artist that took bleeding heart liberals for a ride.

This is a perfect example of why crypto and centralized exchanges don’t go well together. So many people thought they owned Bitcoin when they didn’t and those who owned Ethereum had it handed to authorities from a single individual. I’m not a huge fan of DeFi but decentralized exchange solutions and self custody need to be more popular somehow.
4671  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: November 18, 2022, 05:44:16 AM
Great ending between the Nets and Trailblazers tonight. Durant missed a shot with a couple second left but Royce O’Neal was there to clean it up and get the win. Ben Simmons had a great night coming off the bench and shooting 6-6 with 12 rebounds. Maybe they’re hoping coming off the bench will help Ben like it seems to be helping Westbrook. Kevin Durant ended up with 35 and 8.
4672  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: November 18, 2022, 12:22:29 AM
Here's my bet for today

Sacramento Kings vs San Antonio Spurs

The Sacramento Kings  (7-6) will try to extend their winning streak against San Antonio Spurs (6-9). The Sacramento Kings are favorite @1.34 while San Antonio Spurs are @3.45

Los Angeles Clippers vs Detriot Pistons

The Los Angeles Clippers (8-7) will host the Detriot Pistons (3-12) tonight at Crypto.com Arena. The Clippers are favorite @1.22 while Pistons @4.5. It is important to note that the Clippers may miss PG13 tonight because of hand injury. As usual, Kawhi will still out of the game tonight so the Clippers will rely on the service of John Wall to beat the Pistons.

Probably good bets. The Spurs have been tanking and the Kings playing well so I agree the Kings will probably take that W. The Pistons though have been wildcards this year. They beat really good teams and lose to terrible teams so it’s hard to predict what will happen as the Clippers are pretty streaky too. I think your bets are likely to hit for you though. Good luck!
4673  Economy / Goods / Re: ~ Buying a TESLA CYBERTRUCK with BITCOIN ~ on: November 18, 2022, 12:20:31 AM
Elon Musk had a little something to say about the Cybertruck today. He said the Cybertruck is something special that comes along once in a long while. I still say people aren’t familiar enough with the advancements in this vehicle that sets it apart. I think when these start hitting the road people are going to freak out. There just isn’t enough education on why it is shaped like it is. Too many people don’t get it yet.

4674  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: November 17, 2022, 06:37:39 AM
I lost my bets tonight. I was disappointed by the Warriors against the Suns. Even with Stephen Curry putting up 50 points it wasn’t enough to beat the Suns. The Warriors didn’t have it tonight. I also got stung by the Houston Rockets beating the Dallas Mavericks. I wasn’t aware that Luka Doncic wouldn’t be playing at the time I made that one. Only game I got right tonight was the Minnesota Timberwolves over the Orlando Magic.

I love how, at the very bottom of every single downturn, the collective Bitcoin community has a pause and a moment of self-reflection where they wonder if Bitcoin is making any real-world progress at all. And if it is even worth it to still be investing in it...

...A sentiment only to be completely forgotten and smuggly snickered at a mere 12 months later.  Roll Eyes

#thistooshallpass #buybtc

I don’t really trade BTC but it is amazing how your emotions try to coerce you to do the worst things possible. I do wonder what would happen if BNB crashed and Binance went bankrupt. What if Tesla sells, mtgox and the US gov crash the price back below $2K. What if Saylor gets liquidated and GBTC dissolves? This whole thing could melt down or it could boom. It’s still an experiment. Personally though, I think people are better off selling at multi year highs as opposed to multi year lows.
4676  Other / Meta / Re: Allow buying pinned posts in marketplace on: November 16, 2022, 05:39:05 PM
I don't think anyone wants this feature.  Probably not even the sellers.  I could imagine though if it were implemented, the price would be way too low and all the stickied posts would be just scams which the forum doesn't moderate.  This would likely turn into a liability for the forum, a worse experience for the forum user, and wouldn't raise enough funds to be worth the hassle.  Probably a better idea is to just have a popular selling thread and let the users bump it to the top with confirmed purchases that arrive and feedback to the seller.  There are just too many scammers in that section for them to have nice things.
4677  Economy / Gambling / Re: Stake.com - The Leading Crypto Casino - 🦉 Drake, UFC, Everton Main Partner ⚽ 🥊 on: November 16, 2022, 05:36:03 PM
Any chance Stake is going to bring back individual player bets on NBA games?  For a short time at the end of last season we were able to bet on individual player stats like how many points they would score or rebounds, blocks, assists, etc...  I enjoy these individual player bets as much as the team betting and there are a lot of games I don't want to bet on but I'd still be interested in making player bets.  So I'd love to see this individual player betting return, as it was sort of fantasy-like and now that it's gone I miss it.  Bring back the individual player bets!  Smiley

4679  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The risks of self-custody outweigh the risk of exchanges on: November 16, 2022, 05:18:07 PM
You may have heard of James Howells and his $11 million plan to find a hard drive with $181 million in Bitcoin. That is a risk of self-custody. His chance of finding his bitcoin is actually not too small.

If you had bitcoin held on FTX, there is no amount of money or time that will bring those coins back. They are gone. You have a 0% chance of finding those bitcoin.

Not your keys, not your bitcoin.

The subject of this thread is that self-custody risks outweigh the risk of exchanges, and they you seem to provide an argument in direct contrast with that subject line.  Anyway, there are definitely risks to self-custody, but stupidity isn't one you should be too worried about, unless you're an idiot that might throw away your private keys, in which case it might be better to store them on exchanges.  I think a bigger risk is the $5 wrench attack or having your computer infected with some sort of virus.  This is why people give ways to secure BTC without needing to be connected online and you should take measures to make sure a wrench won't be able to expose your private keys (not having direct access to them is a win).
4680  Economy / Speculation / Re: Expectation Rock Bottom Level Bitcoin on: November 16, 2022, 05:14:24 PM
My question would be, where is all of this Bitcoin going to come from that will crash the market?  Exchanges have sold more BTC than they have, the largest miners are going bankrupt with no BTC on their books, and most fly by night retail investors have exited the market completely.  Until the US dumps their confiscated BTC or mtgox distributes the BTC they're sitting on, the market is basically just collapsing as users on exchanges sell their imaginary BTC at market prices.  At some point these entities are going to have to start buying BTC to make their customers whole again, even if it's in bankruptcy.  This crash won't last forever.  Just take custody of your BTC and wait it out at this point.  The time to sell was above $50K a year ago.  Selling now makes no sense.
