Sen. Paul Holds Listening Session in Ferguson

Oct 10, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C. - TODAY, Sen. Rand Paul visited Ferguson, Missouri to attend a listening session with local leaders in the wake of the civil unrest over the past two months. The NAACP, the Urban League and several local business and church leaders participated in the event. The discussion centered around Sen. Paul's belief that the underlying problem in Ferguson-and many other troubled areas of our country-is a broken criminal justice system that unfairly targets minorities.

"I came to Ferguson today to listen to leaders in the community and to learn more about how we can fix the problems of criminal injustice together," Sen. Paul said.

"Senator Paul's decision to meet with the St. Louis county NAACP and local leadership in Ferguson speaks volumes about the NAACP's strength and influence in the civil rights community. Local leadership was encouraged by his decision to call a meeting with us to have a round table discussion and discuss common sense solutions. We were honored to have an informative discussion about the Senator regarding ways that he can help to assist our civil rights agenda in Washington and help to end police militarization," said John Gaskin III, spokesman for St. Louis County NAACP

Senator Paul has previously noted that anyone who thinks that race does not still, even if inadvertently, skew the application of criminal justice in this country is just not paying close enough attention. He has often noted that prisons are full of men and women of color who are serving inappropriately long and harsh sentences for non-violent, youthful mistakes.

"Given the over-militarization of our law enforcement and the racial disparities in our criminal justice system, it is impossible for minority communities not to feel like their government is particularly targeting them, " noted Senior Advisor, Doug Stafford. "Senator Paul will continue to work to fix the broken system and in the meantime, let us continue to pray for the people of Ferguson, citizens, police and officials alike."

Senator Paul has introduced six pieces of federal legislation that reforms the federal criminal justice system and addresses the underlying economic reasons for high crime areas:

• Justice Safety Valve Act - S.619 - The bill introduced on March 20, 2013, and cosponsored by Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) would allow a federal judge to depart from mandatory minimum sentences under certain circumstances.
• Economic Freedom Zones Act - S.1852 - The bill, introduced on December 18, 2013, would provide for the establishment of free market enterprise zones in economically distressed areas.
• Civil Rights Voting Restoration Act - S.2550 - The bill, introduced on June 26, 2014, and cosponsored by Sen. Maj. Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) would restore the voting rights for every non-violent offender in federal elections upon release.
• REDEEM Act - S.2567 - The bill, introduced on July 8, 2014, and cosponsored by Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) would create a judicial process for adults to seal non-violent records on the federal level and an automatic process to expunge records for non-violent juveniles.
• FAIR Act - S.2644 --- The bill, introduced on July 23, 2014, raised the standard for the federal government to seize property in criminal investigations to raise the standard to clear and convincing evidence as a means to protect individuals found not guilty of crime.
• RESET Act - S.2657 - The bill, introduced on July 24, 2014, would reclassify simple possession drug crimes of small amounts as misdemeanors from felonies and eliminates the distinction between crack and powder cocaine for sentencing purposes because of the unfair outcomes of the distinction.

Just using the available standard metrics I came up w/ $1700+ and that's w/o increasing hedge fund or panic buy worldwide mania setting in at any point. If that happens, an extremely violent upswing would commence and go 5 digits.

Rand At Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit (10-8-14 in San Francisco)

Quote
Journalistic eminence Bob Woodward took the stage at the Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit today to interview two Silicon Valley legends, Eric Schmidt and John Doerr, and one Valley political favorite (though he hails from Kentucky), Rand Paul.

Onstage at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, the debate, titled “Why Can’t Tech Save Politics,” ranged from education to health care to immigration reform. It was just one of 11 sessions packed with boldfaced names at the inaugural New Establishment Summit celebrating the “Age of Innovation,” and no one on the surprisingly friction-free panel really disagreed on much — try as Woodward did to prod them.

A fast-forward through the onstage conversation, which might serve as a primer of Silicon Valley political opinions:

Rand Paul, U.S. Republican senator from Kentucky, on student-teacher ratios: “I think we should go a million to one! Ten million to one!”

Eric Schmidt, the executive chairman of Google, seemed to agree with this, but added: “Gamify the lessons. … As jobs get automated away, the only thing we can do is have smarter people.”

The panel agreed that we need more education entrepreneurs, and less regulation and less centralized authority around schools.

Paul called out the Internet as a good model: “No one’s in charge of the Internet, and look how good the Internet’s going.”

BTW, this is a great venue for him to be speaking at especially in the company of such Silicon Valley top dogs as Schmidt and Doerr. Can you comprehend if Rand tilts Silicon Valley money away from mostly democrats and towards his personified makeover of the GOP, with him at the helm? Game time!!

Rand Paul To Prospective 2016 Field: If You Support Common Core, You Will Lose GOP Primary

Quote
GREENVILLE, North Carolina — Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has a harsh message for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and any other potential 2016 GOP presidential candidates: Support Common Core? You won’t win the presidential primary.

“I don’t see Common Core being—if you’re for Common Core and you’re for a national curriculum, I don’t see it being a winning message in a Republican primary,” Paul said in an interview backstage at an event where he endorsed Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) for reelection. “If there’s a Republican candidate out there—let’s just say there’s a hypothetical one that’s for Common Core. I’m saying that that hypothetical candidate that’s for Common Core probably doesn’t have much chance of winning in a Republican primary.”

Paul did not name Jeb Bush personally, but the former Florida governor and potential 2016 candidate has been an outspoken advocate for Common Core national educational standards. Bush was here in North Carolina on the other side of the state in late September to endorse the state House Speaker Thom Tillis’ U.S. Senate bid against incumbent Democrat Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC), during which Tillis sought to distance himself from Bush’s views on both immigration and Common Core.

During the event where he endorsed Tillis, Bush pushed Common Core and immigration—two things from which Tillis distanced himself from Bush.

I really like when Rand acts like the party boss and makes absolute statements like saying certain things are off limits from here on out. Great strategy to stand strong on the issues and let the status quo hang itself. He's done the same to Hillary on a number of things in the past.

Alcohol is not as destructive as some would have you believe especially if one knows their limit and doesn't stray beyond it. It's very common for cannabis advocates to constantly slam alcohol usage and/or issues as their leg to stand on while running PR for decrim and such, considering how ubiquitous usage is and consequently associated problems. These comparisons will only work on a certain % of people so it's better to tout the lack of danger for cannabis rather than constantly malign alcohol users to get your way. Live and let live. I'm not directing this at anyone, it's just sort of what I've seen from the green community in their PR game. However, going to the lengths of saying alcohol is in the same league as meth or crack is the fastest way to lose your PR angle considering well over 50% of the public consumes alcohol on some sort of regular basis. Alcohol is something that most responsible users can say enough is enough of, neither of the two aforementioned drugs have regular users that can stop that habit.

This what a trader had to say the other day in another subforum of a forum dedicated to BTC
Quote
Yes, I have had some negative things to say about the implementation of the technology. To be fair, I've always held that the technology is revolutionary. I'm just afraid that the implementation hasn't been as solid as the underlying tech. There are some core issues with using the technology the way it has been used. I won't go into a lot of details to answer your question at this point, but I think it is fair to say that the technology is here to stay, just maybe not in the current mode. It's a good foundation to build off of and I am sure as time goes on and the large capital investors learn more about how the tech is being used and can be used, will see innovations that will add much more value and the exchanges will stabilize around that more realistic valuation.

As far my target area, I tried to go back and extend my stable growth line for the long term. I am still focused on the pivot at $250, as I believe many people are. If you go back and look at the largest weekly volume candles in the bitstamp chart on trading view you will note a couple of things.

1.) Shortly after my 'octave' analysis that we are talking about, the market signaled that the pivot was actually at $320. This was the week of 11/4 settlement price. The week ended the same day after my analysis. It is important to note that this week was the largest volume positive movement in the history of this trade.
2.) That week began at 207 reached as high as 364 and finally settled at 320. On the daily view for the same week, there is a high volume touch point to the down side on 11/10, the day of my analysis which I believe coincided with new about senate hearings coupled with the fall out from silk road bust. THat touch point was 264, which at the time showed strong support for the peak of the april 2013 exuberance.
3.) The idea of the octave was to eventually challenge and retest the pivot point in this range. A healthy strong volume bounce of that retest would indicate that the steady growth trend would reach up to a new level or octave of pricing with the new trend line RANGE setting up the low end of the range at the TOP of the high end of the old range.

So what has actually played out is that the retest never happened. What we are seeing today is not a retest of top end of the old growth trend. Instead it is a return to the old lower octave growth trend.

This is actually really extremely positive news for the long term growth prospects of the technology in so far as fair market valuations and in terms of technical analysis. So in fact, with todays retest of that pivot point which by now has extended the old stead growth channel, what we are seeing (finally) is some pricing stability.

No, this is not the beginning of the end. But it is the end of the beginning, if that makes sense. We are seeing some soberness return to this trade and to this tech. This is a positive sign for long term investors and for actual users of this technology. Not just in terms of technicals, but also, it is fundamentally important for this technology to be made widely available to the average consumer. Even tho I think we all have different perspectives of what the value of "bitcoin" might be, and we even have different ways of understanding what a "bitcoin" might actually be, the average not technical person will see "cheap" bitcoins as an opportunity to explore and adopt the technology. This is a good thing!

So that being said, I think finally we'll start to move out of the speculative phase of the introduction of an invention and revolution in communications technology. I think we'll be moving back into a more realistic approach of figuring out what the technology can actually do and maybe start seeing investors and early adopters focus more on software and less on the exchange charts.

I suspect that the market will over correct even tho many will be licking their chops to scoop up at whatever the low actually ends up being. No one wants to get burned again, but looking at my long terms growth trend, the bottom end of that trend is right around the 260 level and the range would be up into the 320 area as of today. That's on the weekly analysis.

I'd be looking for an over correct to somewhere around the 120-150 range because I expect the old 250 pivot to be broken still based on volume support at that level and then one final capitulation to drive prices down to the last stable trend range post april 2013 highs.

Today, this would be support on the weekly chart secondary indicators. This down move has been gathering momentum for months now. The weekly is just now starting to move into oversold range after nearly 20 months of bouncing in and out of overbought. I believe we'll spend a week or two of weekly oversold enough to bring the MONTHLY chart on trading view secondary RSI indicator down to touch the oversold level. That projects prices out to 120-150 on a LONG over due technical correction.

That being said, I started small buys last week as we punched down into the upper octave growth lows of 320 where intermediate support was at. I've also scooped up some of the pivot prices just now as we begin challenging the growth octave pivots. I'll be adding my position all the way down to my target over correct range of 120-150.

The trend reversal won't happen quickly, so there won't be a "catch a falling knife moment". I believe this will be a protracted correction and very frustrating for people who have been long during this entire corrective phase.

However, there will be plenty of opportunity for bulls to retrench because eventually, there won't be enough floor space to short. We'll get back to a day trader market real soon here, but the whipsaw action won't be as severe as we saw with the last 2 bubble phases.

I suppose the big question is, where is the top to this thing? Will there be another bubble up phase? I think the sky is definitely the limit assuming innovation keeps pace with valuations. That hasn't been the case because I do believe the market got WAY ahead of itself with a BETA test technology. So no, there won't be another bubble up phase like the last 2 we saw. Those I believe are aberrations in an otherwise healthy market with solid "product". That being said, I don't think there is anything stopping the trade from moving into a more profitable growth trend ( a steeper up slope) than what the technical analysis has presented to this point.

So there ya have it.

We've already hit my initial target and I've covered my shorts and started slowly adding to my holdings. I'll back up the truck on the over correct sub 200, and then use my new long position to start day trade again.

It's been a long time coming, but I've yet to actually lose money trading and at this point I've nearly quadrupled my fiat losses from the theft of my original trades.

Thought I'd share w/ yall

Tech exec to host fundraiser with Rand Paul

Quote
Former Oracle CEO Larry Ellison is hosting a major fundraiser for the Republican Party featuring Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) next week.

The Silicon Valley billionaire who surprisingly stepped down from the software giant last month will host the event for the National Republican Senatorial Committee at his Woodside, Calif., mansion on Oct. 8, according to an invitation obtained by BuzzFeed.

Tickets start at $1,500 per person, but run up to $32,400 for the handful of hosts.
Sens. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and John Thune (R-S.D.) will also be on hand, as will Rep. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), who is running for a Senate seat.

Paul is eyeing a possible presidential run in 2016 and has become a frequent visitor to Silicon Valley in recent months, where his libertarian message has won him a number of supporters, despite the region's long history as a hotbed of liberal politics.

Rand Paul Rallies With 400 N. Carolina Pastors, Discusses Why He's Pro Life

Quote
GREENSBORO, North Carolina — Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) rallied 400 North Carolina pastors Tuesday evening, explaining to them why he is pro-life—an issue that, given Paul’s libertarian leanings, could be a point of attack from other conservative candidates in his likely 2016 presidential campaign.
While opening his remarks, Paul joked a bit about the awkwardness that comes with a libertarian-leaning Republican like himself being featured at a conservative Christian pastors’ event.

“People say, ‘gosh what are you doing there? What are you doing talking to a bunch of ministers? You’re a libertarian,’” Paul said. “I tell them, ‘look, I’m libertarian-ish.’ And people say, ‘well what’s that mean? Is that consistent with Christianity? Is that consistent with right and wrong?’ I think they don’t quite get it. The whole thing about sort of the people who believe in this libertarian thing is that it’s non-aggression. It isn’t religiously based, but many of us are religious. But it’s based on non-aggression. And people just say, ‘you believe in everybody doing whatever they want, license, libertine, that’s what you’re all about.’ And I say, ‘no, that’s not me at all.’”

The event at the Sheraton convention center in Greensboro brought together 400-plus politically conservative pastors from all across the state, and was hosted by the American Renewal Project. Breitbart News was the only media outlet allowed inside the closed press event during Paul’s speech, and has an exclusive look at what he talked about with the pastors.

“It’s really all about defining when life begins,” Paul said about the pro-life movement.

The resignation of Secret Service Director Julia Pierson and the launch of a top-to-bottom review of the agency Wednesday are an acknowledgment by President Obama of what he has long denied: that the force charged with protecting him is in deep turmoil and struggling to fulfill its sacred mission.

The 6,700-member agency, long an elite class of skilled professionals who prized their jobs, now suffers from diminished luster and historically high turnover rates. Officers in charge of protecting the White House say they have grown resentful at being belittled by their bosses and routinely forced to work on off-days. Some agents who have sworn to take a bullet for the president and his family have little faith in the wisdom or direction of their senior-most leaders. Those chronic woes have been amplified in recent days by revelations of a string of humiliating security lapses that have raised concerns about the president’s safety and prompted the agency’s biggest crisis since President Ronald Reagan was shot outside the Washington Hilton three decades ago.

Joseph Clancy, a retired agent who served as the head of Obama’s protective detail briefly after the president was first elected, was named to take over on a temporary basis. He will serve as a caretaker while a full review is conducted and until a permanent replacement can be found.

“Replacing the director is a good start in the right direction,” said Dan Emmett, a former counterassault team leader and Secret Service agent. But, he added, “replacing the director will not be effective unless the entire upper management is replaced. Otherwise it will just be business as usual.”

More...http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/pierson-failed-to-provide-fresh-start-for-secret-service-that-administration-wanted/2014/10/01/51a642a2-49a8-11e4-891d-713f052086a0_story.html

The latest issue was the man wielding the knife that scaled the fence and actually made it into the White House before being eventually tackled by an offduty agent. This broad running the agency had to go and she resembled much of what the other agency heads are guilty of: incompetence and/or political correctness.

the op's research is correct

the reason is not anonymity. the reason is that if you link your bank account to an exchange and want to send over $10k, be prepared to have delays, arguments with exchanges, and your bank looking into your account, even freezing/closing accounts.

anyone wanting more that 25 bitcoins no longer trades via exchanges, they do it privately through circle/localbitcoins/bitcoinotc etc..

and yes that is legitimate people.. not just the shady ones.
AMLKYC is killing the basement dweller PHP coded exchanges, and even i have stopped valuing bitcoin at their crappy sub $500 price points. they are all going the way of mtgox, (well without the theft side) with the closing of accounts/lack of funds side.

think about it logically.. when you see btc-e for instance, should you really be basing all 13million coins based on movements of less than 500 coins every 30minutes (12k a day)

where by just 200 coins can change the value of 13million coins from $5BILLION to $6BILLION..
its time we smarten up and realise that AMLKYC is causing the gates to close on the small exchanges and we should be valuing bitcoin on the other places where the real trade is happening

So you're saying that they're willing to pay around 50% Shocked mark   up just to avoid KYC laws?? This doesn't sound economically sound(or even sane).
Well, it's possible they're willing to pay that markup as we're nearing a bottom w/ a potential rally coming down the line. They get coins shipped to an anonymous address that isn't tied to them and then they can sit back and wait for the rally and lbc when the timing is right, or something similar. And, then not pay taxes.

I, too, once looked at these animal rights activists as pesky nuisances. In part, because they're usually one dimensional and lack the same concern for human life. However, the degenerate that would go out of their way to hurt a cat or dog or not brake when ducks are crossing the road deserves some type of societal consequences whether it be imprisonment or ostracism. Under the current paradigm, some sort of work program and rehabilitation in prison should help the situation but in a more free market system ostracism and/or a behind the scenes ass beating might suffice.
