4681  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Still worthwhile mining with antminer S5? on: August 13, 2016, 11:04:00 AM
Do you have a list of altcoins that can be mined with antminer S5? I had come to regard it as being obsolete. But altcoins could really drive demand for S5 again.
There's no real list, as any Antminer can mine all SHA256 algorithm coins, but the most profitable generally tends to be Peercoin; at the time of the halving it was actually briefly more profitable than Bitcoin before all the miners moved onto it and the difficulty rose. It now sits at near the profitability of Bitcoin. It's a nice coin to solomine, and it's a good alternative to Bitcoin mining if you're looking for some fun. Coin-switching pools are going to be your best bet for mining generally, but most altcoins are not profitable- especially SHA256 ones. Still quite a shame that there's been no miners like the S5 anymore- it ran well for its time, and still runs well for people with free electricity.

I personally like the newer "bigger" ones for lack of better word.  I am in a good position having a mining area with where power and noise is not a issue currently.  Only thing is with what I pay in electricity all I can currently mine with is S9's and GPU's (altcoin's).   Really the S5 was a miner that ran hot and loud to you could do things to help, but I don't see it is a great miner for a room you use stock.

And I'm not saying it was a bad miner I really liked mine.  In fact I liked the S5+ even better at the time that was really something to have so much power.  I was sad when I had to sell that one and upgrade.   If you had free electricity and looking for a miner of this generation the Avalon 4.1 was much better for a normal room.   But it was a higher priced unit.

But yest S5 if free electricity can still earn, just make sure to do some ROI math as you don't want to pay to much.  S7's are getting awful cheap anymore so I think a lot more of free will look there and then deal with deal heat/noise.
Fans are always replaceable on all Antminer units, so there's that; you can always install a cheapo fan if you feel a unit runs too hot or too loud. Avalon has always charged a bit of a premium since their manufacturing costs were (probably) higher, but their miners did well. An S7 is a pretty good choice, but if I had free electricity, I'd go for a cheap and relatively strong miner, and the S5 fits the niche. S7s are also starting to, but the price is a bit higher.
4682  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: is the mining bitcoin in home profitable? on: August 13, 2016, 10:57:19 AM
No but LTC is catch is finding a knc titan at a price that works is hard....but I'm doing ok on such....i convert ltc to btc and keep 10% in LTC

lucky got some new equip that will ROI in 5-6 months with psu's and mods..if i point all my 3400 mh at the debt will roi in 5-6 months at worse

but only angle ..btc home mining sure does not work  on the above at 14.6c kwh (i clear about 2350 bucks after electric taken out)

but imho btc home mining is NOT working anymore that boat has sailed

Not unless you have cheap-ass electricity like some people do on this forum. With sub-0.05$/kwh, you can roi relatively fast with new-gen miners if you live in in an ideal area with good cooling costs. Altcoins are going to be much easier to possibly make a profit for the normal home miner, but it's still just as much of an ASIC arms race. I know someone who runs 2 Antminer S4s. Why? Free electricity. With free electricity, all you need to do is estimate how much power cooling and mining uses, and check your limits, and you're good. Home mining has become very difficult as the needs to do it and profit at the same time is getting ever more difficult.

Trolling still isn't funny, especially here. You can argue all you want, but I don't think this kind of stuff is funny. There's plenty of other places to lose money that are much better than here, and if anything, it shows this user doesn't take anything too seriously.
It's not trolling, it's a honest and valid offer. Still a better offer than most in Investor-based games. Why don't you give red trust to the real scammers instead of me? What kind of self-declared hero are you?
I'm not a hero, and you can just ignore the red trust. It doesn't even count, as I'm nowhere close to being in DT. Heck, if it was completely valid, this would be on a different section. There's a reason why this is in Investor-based Games and not a service to halve your bitcoins for free.

Pretty damn clear you're doing this for a joke, and anyone who doesn't read will lose their btc, half of it.

It is clearly a joke.  Anyone who sends money without first reading and checking where they're sending it to will lose their money at least once to scammers.  Perhaps it's best that they learn their lesson in a situation where they will at least get half back.

User leowonderful left red trust for "not being funny"!

Dear leowonderful. You bad at reading? It does not say; Negative - my butt hurts! It says red is for scammer.
I am not scammer! I did not scam. I offer Bitcoin Halving! Use escrow!

One of the best threads here, suckers your chance to halve your bitcoin..
Thanks Grin Grin

Brilliant!  There is clearly a lot of demand for an honest service like this, and you my friend have the entrepreneurial vision to fulfill that demand.  If you would like a business partner, I would be the perfect person to help halve your profit  Grin Grin Grin
I can handle business on my own!
Pretty damn clear you're doing this for a joke, and anyone who doesn't read will lose their btc, half of it. I can read English perfectly fine, thanks. Others who don't as well won't see this, though. Butthurt? Please.

Trolling isn't funny. Don't do it. My trust hardly matters, but just keep that in mind.
4686  Economy / Services / Re: nimirum signature campaign | up to 0.025 BTC per week on: August 12, 2016, 02:35:26 PM
It's crazy you all jump in, wear the signature and he did not put a dime in escrow yet do you all realize it's a newbie and you have 0.00% gurantee to be paid?

I think the rate per post made you all blind well if you got no payment at least i have warned you all
Pretty damn slim pickings in the signature campaign world right now; plenty of campaigns have had newbies running them and have turned out just fine. There's very few campaigns open right now, and the few that pay in bitcoin pay very little. Still better than nothing.

4688  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What should I do? on: August 11, 2016, 11:46:00 PM
If you don't have cheap or free electricity don't bother with any mining stuff. You will only waste your money. It will take ages to regain your investment and only after that phase you will make profits. Also consider that your s9 will lose value over time. So, probably, when you got your roi your s9 will have half of its current value.
He can still sell his miner even when he gets roi; what you posted makes no sense. In fact, if you roi, you should almost certainly sell your miner, as it gives you a bit of extra money. Miners do not instantly lose value, as you can see with Antminer S7s on eBay- i made a fair amount of money selling after ROI. Cheap electricity/free electricity is great to mine with, but you'll need to see electrical limits first- cooling can use lots of electricity.

4691  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Which is more profitable? on: August 08, 2016, 03:44:17 PM
Altcoins may be a better option, but it mostly depends on what you like more. For example, DASH is a nice X11 coin, and there ARE ASICS for it now. You could invest in an ibelink X11 ASIC and try getting profit. Then there's Ether, which is pretty profitable right now, but unfortunately due to Casper it'll become unviable pretty soon. It's still going to take a few months, though. Keep in mind many ASIC'S profitable lifetimes are right around a year as well, though. Altogether, it just depends at what time you ask, but currently, Ethereum can be a better choice than Bitcoin mining. You'll need a good GPU for Ether, though, and I recommend the RX 470- nearly the same hashrate as the 480, with slightly better power usage, I believe. Good luck mining!
4692  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: difficulty finally dropping like expected- dramatically. on: August 08, 2016, 03:38:41 PM
Great news for the ones like me who are thinking about getting into mining and we were the ones that thought it was all too late to join into the fouray. Grin

I think the ship hasn't completed sailed away after all. Wink
But it just feels that I am in a dingy trying to catch up with a battleship at this point. Cheesy
Difficulty drops are usually very short but can be pretty dramatic imo (as seen in this thread). That said, it's not enough time for someone to start mining for a profit. If you have electrical rates of more than 0.1$/kwh, you'll barely be in the business no matter how low difficulty is, and even at 0.09 and 0.08 it's still difficult to mine. I personally don't think this drop was as lackluster as others think it was- it was a nice break from the huge spike we had for several months, but unfortunately was most likely caused by a farm phasing out its miners.
4693  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Suppose you had 5 MW of energy at your disposal. on: August 08, 2016, 03:35:14 PM
Well, you'd need a lot of money to mine, but your location and power cost shouldn't be an issue since cooling is much cheaper in colder areas. You'd need lots of S9's or S7s (with electricity costs this cheap, S7s may be viable for mining), and you'd be able to use lots of them. Other than that, besides capital, you should be pretty well off. Electrical costs are usually not a problem as long as cooling is cheap, and in your case you'll be very competitive in the mining scene with the perfect enviroment.

i can pay 0.03 btc

pm me

thank you
0.03's quite low for a Sr. Member account; the lowest asking price I've seen is 0.05, and that was in an auction. Most sell for around 0.8-0.12. That said, you're probably going to have a better time finding accounts in the auctions section of the forum. Either up your price or look elsewhere, I really doubt you'll get any offers.
4697  Economy / Lending / Re: leowonderful's BTC loans! on: August 07, 2016, 09:41:02 PM
20% interest is overkill, especially for trusted members. Don't expect to get many loans with that high interest that are legit.

You should probably let a trusted escrow hold all collateral.
I'll look into that, just setting up the basics. I'll be gone for a while, as well, so I will not be able to respond to all requests.

I probably won't do that, but thanks for the suggestion.
You should still allow people to put their collateral in escrow if they wish. A statement like that might make it seem like you are going to scam the collateral.
Thanks for the recommendations. Still calibrating myself through all of this. Added both. I'm looking at as many of these loan threads as possible to get a good idea, but there's only a few new ones and none that seem like a good reference. Edited the quote, THERE was bugging me.
4698  Economy / Lending / Re: A loan using my Virwox level 3 account as collateral? on: August 07, 2016, 09:07:44 PM
Thanks for the info, my account is a little worth more than i thought.  I would like to get a loan of .075 and payback .09 within 8 days using my bitcointalk account as collateral

It always bothers me when people take out a loan based on their collateral value, rather than the amount they need.  It's almost as if they are looking to sell their account disguised as a loan.
It's pretty hard to sell accounts right now, so there are plenty of people using loans to cash out. It's not uncommon, and lots of people sell accounts using loans and defaulting. It's pretty sad. Unfortunately, that's how the loaning part of the forum works, and we can't really change it as it's been like this for a while.
