Can't you just parse automatically for homographs, and just ban any users?
4682  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Translations of some of the best posts on the local language boards. on: July 22, 2018, 01:18:41 PM

I should drop by a take a look sometime.

You are welcome to join, I've installed the Spanish language extension to help with translations.
4683  Other / Ivory Tower / Will there be demonstrations against the UK visit of the ruler of Qatar? on: July 22, 2018, 01:16:20 PM
The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani is due to visit the UK next week. The disgusting demonstrations and behaviour protesting aginst Donald Trump made some of us ashamed to be considered as British. Donald Trump is a part of the solution to many of the world problems, Qatar is part of the cause of the problems. Will the protesters give the Emir an equivalent reception?

Great guide! Thanks for sharing.
Helped me at least to get the full node running Cheesy

Why did you mess up a decent thread by quoting the whole of the opening post. I put you on ignore for that really annoying habit, so no merits from me in future. I bet you haven't even started a node in the hour or so between the start of the thread and your post.
4685  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Guide] Split Bitcoin blockchain between SSD & HDD and speed up the initial sync on: July 22, 2018, 11:50:40 AM
Very interesting experiment. I'll try this on a very old notebook that I've got, and I'll see if it is viable for such a low spec machine.
4686  Other / Meta / Re: Text spinning/disguised plagiarism on: July 22, 2018, 10:35:30 AM
I'm really concerned about plagiarism, and this is one of the reasons that I insist that members of Fit to Talk use their Bitcoin Talk member name to sign up. The primary function of the project is to help foreign language members to improve their English posts here. Because of this, it should be possible to make a modified post on a board here, without the risk of a plagiarism accusation. If anyone finds a post here that has not been made by the 'concept creator', then please report it to the mods. I would also be grateful if I could be notified, and I will investigate in case there is a misunderstanding.

Should the report be the result of a misunderstanding, how can I appeal on behalf of the rightful creator of the post?
4687  Other / Meta / Re: [CLUB]Join The SpamBuster's Team of volunteers if you want to share some time to on: July 22, 2018, 08:58:08 AM
I've only got an accuracy of 98%, so I don't think I'm good enough.
4688  Other / Meta / Re: Should avatars be banned here too? on: July 22, 2018, 08:24:34 AM
Somebody always beats me to the witty observations.  That's what I get for not reading the whole thread before posting.

It's the 'pur' that attracted me - you know that cats in hats love to pur. Smiley
4689  Other / Meta / Re: Should avatars be banned here too? on: July 22, 2018, 07:58:39 AM

this post was originally made in serious discussion.. for some reason looks like someone has moved it, or maybe i just posted it in the wrong section somehow (im sure this was in serious discussion)

Threads have legs in Bitcoin Talk. They also have the ability to procreate, and my current project is a thread condom to try to reduce this.
4690  Other / Meta / Re: Should avatars be banned here too? on: July 22, 2018, 07:55:55 AM
I hope that Jet Cash wont put me on ignore for uploading this image...

Double decrusting the boards sounds like a good idea. Smiley

It's considered lucky when a black cat crosses your post, do you really want to deprive posters of their luck?
4691  Other / Meta / Re: New rank idea: Bounty Member on: July 21, 2018, 02:07:30 PM
BTW, if anyone has any ideas for simple things that these ex-nonsense-posters could usefully do to make money, I think that this'd be a good project right now. There are apparently quite a few people who were making money on the forum and could use guidance. Even though their past activities were not good for this forum, I doubt that they are useless in general.

One thing that would be useful for me would be the ability to include a jpg banner in my sig. This could be a thin strip, and maybe about 3/4 of the width of the forum banners. It would also need to include an affiliate link. Sponsors could be limited to certain approved categories such as travel, hosting, domain sales, market sites etc. Its use to promote personal political sites would also be great,

Congrats to Achow - a very well deserved award.

Achow is an extremely helpful and knowledgeable member of the forum.
4693  Other / Meta / Re: Thanks for the info guy on: July 21, 2018, 06:59:09 AM
There are so many of these posters here, and the mods seem to be overworked ( which appears to lead to bad judgement decisions ). So far this morning I've found 10 members to ignore, and not one to merit. Is it time that we became more proactive, and created some public ignore lists to prevent these posting abusers from getting their posts displayed to the merit awarders.
4694  Other / Meta / Re: Is this necessary? on: July 21, 2018, 06:50:03 AM
Is this thread necessary?

Probably not, but it gave me a couple of members to ignore ( not the OP ).
4695  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A small misunderstanding about Bitcoin on: July 20, 2018, 06:42:05 PM
I gave this guy a couple of merits for asking the question, and nobody has really addressed the topic. I think it is an important distinction as Bitcoin becomes a store of wealth, and the cost of releasing individual Bitcoins from the initial pool becomes a factor in asset valuations.
4696  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I become a member ? Activity & time limits on: July 20, 2018, 06:27:48 PM

Also please tell me how to earn merit...

Try to avoid getting on the ignore lists of merit sources.

Oh dear - too late.
4697  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Translations of some of the best posts on the local language boards. on: July 20, 2018, 05:32:18 PM
Domain names are digital values.

btw I've just installed the teams plugin on Fit to Talk, and the first one is for the Spanish community. I'm not sure how this works at the moment. It may be just a simple announcement board.
4698  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Donald Trump has been ordered not to meet Nigel Farage. on: July 20, 2018, 05:28:48 PM
The UK government is split across the middle, not down the middle, but across. The same Eton/Oxford elite that are a major part of the deep state also fills the top levels of the civil service and the conservative party.  That's why all our assets are funneled out through the EU ( which is just a puppet organisation ). Bill Gates is now openly stating that vaccination is being used for population control.  It's really too big an issue for a simple post here, but the majority of people I speak to believe that the poisoning was done by an EU asset in Porton Down. Also the alleged chemical attack in Syria was orchestrated by the White Helmets, and Britain has given them £100 million. The British pound is now worth 30% of its value when we joined the EU etc. etc.
4699  Other / Off-topic / Re: Merit - a problem or solution for the bitcointalk community ? on: July 20, 2018, 04:53:55 PM
It's threads like this that make me think that juniors should be banned from this board.

Anyway, I put the op on ignore for polluting a mildly decent board with another boring meit thread.
4700  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Translations of some of the best posts on the local language boards. on: July 20, 2018, 03:13:02 PM

Nah, College won“t make you rich, posting here will  Grin

Are you saying I should create an alt, and join a bounty then?

Anyway it's time to try to revive this project. Some of the previous pasrticipants seem to have received a shed load of merits from their entries. I don't think the guys realise that the 5 merits that I offer is just the start. Other merit awarders seem to pitch in and increase the rewards. Should I focus on a specific country? Nauru has a population of 13,000, would that be a good start?
