chinese psu surely will burn first, but a good psu should automatically shutdown when you exceed the maximum power that cna be handled by your units The jab @ being made in China is pure wrong considering all of the IBM, HP, Dell, etc server supplies are sourced from China. A crappy PSU can be made anywhere. Just depends on what the customer (IBM, HP et al) specifies it's performance, lifetime, design max operating conditions, etc to be and how thorough the design testing called for is. If the customer tells the likes of Delta (the major supplier of IBM & HP branded server PSU's) to make a marginally rated PSU for them they will be more than happy to do that. Tell them to make it bulletproof and they will do that and do a damn fine job of it. Frankly, for mining the only PSU's I steer clear of are all of the Consumer grade ones -- even the best of them such as Corsair, Thermaltake, Lepa etc. They just are not made for the operating envelope that miners require. |

Hello fellow miners! Happy new year to you all. I bought a R4 batch 2 and an APW5 PSU and they have worked very well so far. I would like to buy another R4 when a new batch is available. I have a question about having 2 R4s: Can they be stacked, one on top of another?  Thanks!  I don't see how it could be possible considering that you would be blocking air input openings on the bottom one, but i go just by the pictures, as I don't have one at home. Maybe if you buy a cheap home depot shelving, then you can put them on two shelves above each other. EDIT: Since R4 are so narrow, someone might even be able to position both on one shelf as long as output fans are pointed in the opposite direction. Yes, the R4 fits those shelves perfectly. If everything works as expected, yes that's the plan. The actual interface on Compac, 2Pac and Biggie are pretty much the same so VH's cgminer should be forward-compatible with the Biggie as well, though there may be some tweaks once the Biggie is actually rolled out.
Hi there, any idea if it'll be possible to set different frequencies for Compacs and 2Pacs (and later Biggies) running on the same instance of the VH's cgminer? As long as each stick is reported as a separate device I'd guess yes. |

And what are you powering with the supply now? Still the s1 or now an s7 or s9? Please do remember that the HP 1200 CS server supply is derated to 800w when fed 110vac.
The early s7's pull around 1,100-1250w at stock speeds which is at the limit of the HP's fed 220v and powering an s9 with one even if fed 220v is out of the question.

hello there, i got GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer, used the bfg miner
when running it said : no divices found . anyone no why please help.
i download the zadig driver already.
I use BFGminer to run my stick. BFGminer uses a built-in driver for the Compac and does not need a 3rd-party one eg. Zadig. Just start BFG and after it says 'no devices found' unplug the stick and then plug it back in. BGF will then see it. edit: A thought - if you have Zadig installed you might need to remove it 'cause it might possibly grab the stick before BFG does. |

The simple fact that the ASIC chips themselves are boutique items (produced in small batches vs in continuous mass-production cycles) and ergo in extremely short supply means ONLY Bitmain will ever make and sell miners based on their chips. Plain and simple fact is that Bitmain has absolutely no reason to have bare chips produced that are destined for resale to other manufacturers. |

Again, file an RMA with bitmain. I have dozens of the supplies and many are several years old -- zero failures. Once Bitmain fixed the problems with the batch-1 supplies they have been pretty bullet proof with very few reported failures.

yes my country standard wall socket is 220-240v.
It works initially for about 20 minutes. How do i troubleshoot this? any internal fuse or something?
If you are not experienced with servicing electronics DO NOT OPEN IT OR ATTEMPT TO SERVICE ANY PSU! The line power side can at best give a heavy poke and at worst KILL YOU.
I assume the fan runs and it does not get warm/hot? If it simply shuts down and is not being overloaded then time to start an RMA with Bitmain. |

Tip to Bitmain re: Auto-tune.
How about giving us say 3 modes to run in? Say Standard for 'normal' operation, and 2 'Eco-Modes'. One to underclock with fast fans to handle high ambient temps and the 2nd to underclock with slow fans for low noise. All auto-tune has to do is use different criteria when it runs to find what works.
Should be simple for them to implement and would end most of the bitching about us being locked out of the settings.

I have a B10 11.85Th S9 running original firmware (File System Version Mon Jul 11 18:23:27 CST 2016) could I use the "Generate Archive" button to save a copy of the firmware? Has anyone ever used the Generate Archive button?
Im a bit apprehensive to press it without checking here first seeing as I've got all my BTC tided up in it.
no, it does not do anything, really. It will save the file on the desktop, that's it. You cannot update it back (rollback from another firmware verssion) from that archive, I tried. Maybe it could update your pool settings if you changed them, etc. The archive function has always only backed up the miners settings eg, pool info and such, so you don't have to renter the info if the miner is reset. Why in their Infinite Wisdom BM doesn't also have it backup the firmware -- who knows... |

take el-cheapo small fans and break off the blades so the hub spins free or rig up a pulse generator to feed the fans tach line (yellow wire). Gee how terribly inconvenient that the miner firmware looks for dead fans...  |

bitmainwarranty would not quote me without the machine shipped to them. I'd rather expect this to happen to all repairs involving batch-16 and higher (auto-tune rigs) and sounds like same for the R4. Chips/boards that perform near perfect are rare. Call it curse of 16/14nm. That said, the point of autotune is so Bitmain can pick and choose between 'meh' and better boards so the miner as a whole gives advertised hash rate. They don't want to use a better board than needed nor send out a weak sister one when it was a better board that croaked. |

Something I will be interested to find out is if BFGminer will work with the 2pac. Per the author BFG is supposed to work with Antminers from the S1 up to the s5. Yes. This is exactly the answer I'm looking for. I can't say I fully follow what you are saying, but I think I got the gist. I'll do more research so I can understand properly.
For the application I am thinking about, I will be using somewhere around 30-80 kW. Would you say this is too low for me to consider the solution you are suggesting? It would just be nice to avoid purchasing individual PSU's and instead design the electrical distribution system around it.
The incoming AC mains to high DC bus feed is by no means an off-the-shelf item... As in ALL high power distribution systems they are custom-built per order often by companies such as ABB, Siemens, NTT, et al. The DC fed PSU's on the other hand are made by most commercial server-class PSU makers excluding Consumer type stuff.
