4705  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: November 05, 2016, 07:46:31 PM
i remember doing somthing like that a couple years ago.
someone posted instructions on how to mine primecoin
using a free trial months instance(s) of DigitalOcean.
so yeah im sure it can be done, lot of command line stuff and such, mind you.
and i myself never got it running.
try googling around.

There are a few threads which have some information on it. If I do it just by googling it will result in a trial and error process that will take quite a while for me to succeed... though I'm sure I would learn quite a bit in the process.

Here are some of the threads - it is possible, I just need to figure out how to do it for Spreadcoin using command line.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=8405.0

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=929134.0 (Looks like Wolf0 and Amph might know how to do it but I haven't seen them around here in quite a while)

and: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=169377.0

I think if I were able to get it up and running it would provide quite a bit of hash power. Maybe at this difficulty it would be profitable.

Anyways, congrats on the new card... though, I think that a larger congratulations will be in order once your neighbor leaves the neighborhood. She sounds awful lol

well from scanning those threads its seems what i thought is confirmed. i.e no profit in mining on a cloud computing service.
unless its a new coin and/or you know how to code a private miner that hashes faster than anything publicly available.
i got a chuckle outta wolfs  reply to this post...

"Is it (the cpu miner) profitable for now?"

(wolf0) "Of course not - the miner has been released. When the miner was 3x faster than anything else, it was amazingly profitable."

wa wa waaah!

well if i were 2 pick 2 legendary posters on bitcointalk to take seriously, it would be suchmoon and bitpop hands down.
and if i were to pick one legendary poster who is a complete nutter (tho entertaining at times)
well I'll give you three guesses and the 1st 2 dont count..... hint... he just showed up in this thread   Roll Eyes
4707  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: November 04, 2016, 02:46:11 PM
just upgraded my gtx750ti spread miner to a 1050ti.

fed-ex  erroneously delivered it to my neighbor who promptly ripped open the box expecting her new hair dryer.I wonder if she thought the fan looked rather small for drying ones hair before realizing she didn't read the name on box.
her..."sorry, heres your package...what is that  anyway,is it a computer thingy?"
me .."oh its a graphics card, I use it to mine altcoins that I trade for bitcoins"
her..."you actually believe all that silly bitcoin stuff? I hear its all a scam, hah hah hah!"
me .."well ......ahhhh nevermind, yeah, its a computer thingy! (eye roll)

Anyway not to get too far off topic...
will be pointing the new card back to spreadcoin as soon as this zcash thing dies down a bit more.
4708  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (decentralized blockexplorer coming) on: November 04, 2016, 12:45:29 PM
lol and i suddenly own more than 30 % of whole nethash Cheesy

That's really decentralized!  Undecided

This whole zcash thing definitely sapped our miners away. I don't even know if mining SPR at these prices is very profitable - is it?

i cannot tell a lie,
i got sapped.
i had to jump on the equihash (zcash algo) bandwagon . the profit was just too tempting.
ill be right back on Spread as soon as the hype dies down.

Don't blame you mate lol.

Actually, I might want to test something out. Does anyone know if it's possible how to set up a gpu instance on amazon or some other web service company and download Spreadcoin mining software EDIT: and is willing to share?

I'm not sure it will be profitable, but I'm not concerned with costs. I think I have some Amazon gift cards - maybe they'll work for this.

This is just something to keep me occupied. Let me know if anyone has any idea on how to do this, please

How bout that incident where someone managed to pilfer a boat load of
the 50mh prime hashlets or something  at a fraction of the cost due to some glitch in system.
Homero was pissed that someone out scammed him.
the hashtalk archive when that went down would be a priceless read indeed!

Here is a post that mentions the issue:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=720844.msg9241710#msg9241710

Another good one was when someone boosted Nicehash payouts and Homero's fake NiceHashlet imitation nearly bankrupted him. That proved a couple of things - he's not mining at Nicehash and has no hardware to do so (duh), and world's most profitable zenpool doesn't exist either. Well, when I say "proved" it didn't really change much because hashtalkers refused to believe it anyway.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=777194

And of course hashtalk was going down every time there was a controversy of some sort... one could imagine Homero getting tired of swinging the banhammer so he would shut the site down for a while Smiley

Edit: lawsuit update.

thanx for lincs suchmoon. you're good!

"There was small group of unscrupulous users blah blah blah... abuse the system...blah blah blah"
oh jeezus..talk about the pot calling kettle black....lol

and we know homero didnt pen THAT tldr because there's
no freekin way he knows how to spell "unscrupulous" much less even know wtf it means
and besides that, there's just way too many other big words and grammatically correct sentences.

I think Adam could get back into his account if he took the time to do it. Maybe if a few of us went over there and gave him a poke, he'd put up with the hassle.

According to another post of his, he no longer has access to the email account he used when signing up to bitcointalk. And therefore cannot retrieve emails pertaining to password resets.

I know that this forum can be a bit difficult in some of its policies to attempt to reactivate an account, but it seems quite likely that Adam, if he wanted, would be able to figure out a way to convince them that he is the real Adam and to show some kinds of proof (to their satisfaction) that he is the "real one" rather than some Adam nutjob (said with endearment) wannabe.... hahahahaha.

The main point seems to be that the actual adam seems to be quite disinclined to go through the motions, at this particular moment.

Many of us would like to have Adam back in order to "make this thread great again"

not to mention the poll is need of a serious update... Smiley

First payout has been really good!  Zcash start seems a Success!
Thanks for quickly send the first payment  Smiley
I'm curious how much and what's your hash rate

According to my payout looks like 400 days to ROI on a 13 month contract LOLZ

better to hold and pray ZCash goes back to its all time high of 150BTC  Grin

well and theres 2 main factors that will guarantee you never see ROI

Zcash "fee out"   , like they always do

There are no maintenance fee on zcash mining.

like x11 and ETH?   hows those contracts treating everyone?
o wait, the last 20 pages answers that question (hint: noone but YOU is apparently happy)

buying a cloudmining contact is like  lending your buddy money
then getting paid back in tiny ("dust" as we refer to it in crypto) daily amounts
that are constantly decreasing to even tinier amounts until at some point (usually, around when you've gotten
about half your money back tho if you're lucky, maybe a bit more)
the payments become less than zero (negative) in which case your buddy says
"sorry no more payments! " ..... wah wah waaaahhh!   Grin

I don't get it, if zcash mining is a thing and can produce profit then why would you want to sell as cloud mining contracts?

ha! thats the million dollar question.  and if you know the fairly obvious answer you dont touch cloud mining.
instead of buying a contract you simply buy the coin...its not rocket science  Roll Eyes
