4701  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining .vs buying in a bear market on: April 03, 2023, 02:16:34 AM
Should I buy two S19j Pro's for $3,700 USD and mine it for the next few years or just buy $3,700 worth of bitcoin (0.16 BTC) ?

My worry is that mining difficulty will keep going up and I will run out of time being profitable before I reach 0.16 BTC.

At the current difficulty of mining, it will take over 250 days to mine 0.16 BTC with two S19j Pro's (assuming electricity is free) but the difficulty will be WAY higher in the next 250 days...

I love the idea of mining because it allows me to dollar cost average into the market and there is no KYC involved.

There are pros and cons to both options of buying two S19j Pro's for $3,700 USD and mining it for the next few years or just buying $3,700 worth of bitcoin (0.16 BTC).

Mining can allow for dollar cost averaging and avoid KYC, but there is a risk of not being profitable before reaching 0.16 BTC due to the increasing mining difficulty and electricity costs. It also requires maintenance and may not be as profitable as just buying bitcoin upfront.

Buying bitcoin upfront is less risky and may provide a good return on investment in the long run, but it doesn't generate earnings like mining and there may be KYC requirements when cashing out.

mining is far lower risk than buying coin.

but buying coin means more possible profit.

the idea of say .1 btc at 28000 in coin

or using .1 btc at 28000 to buy a miner  is comparable is the problem.

they should never be compared ever since they are different method of investing.

one buying coins is passive
the other buying a miner is active.

if your power is cheap enough profit in mining ⛏️ is pretty certain.

i can buy mining gear with credit cards and pay zero interest for 15 months.
i cant do that with buying a bitcoin.

i get endless tax writeoffs expanding a mine
i get to build solar arrays with my partners with mining
cant do it with buying coins.

I made profit every month since nov 21 price was at 69k because i mine.

both paid on time neither one is good as of now.

to clarify the first one was billed at 14:27

and paid at  15:04                   36 minutes yet expired for not being paid in 1 hour.

the second one was billed at 15:55

and paid at 16:00.  they did fix this one.

so far the first one is not fixed.

4703  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 20 amp or 30 amp on: April 02, 2023, 10:05:04 PM
What are the pros/cons of using a 20 amp circuit versus a 30 amp circuit for a Bitmain S19 Xp 141T ?

Thanks,
Ron

a s19 xp pulls 3100 watts on normal it will work on a 20 amp or a 30 amp.

But if you have 2 x s19 xp units they won't work on a 20 amp circuit. while two s19 xp units may work on a 30amp circuit.

So the 30 amp is more costly to install as it needs 10 gauge wire not 12 gauge, but may allow for expanding your mining beyond one s19 xp.

Well Mother Nature played its own version of an April Fool's prank on my town in New Jersey.

Small Tornado hit about 2000-3000 feet from my home.

F1 some tree damage etc.

Not a very nice April Fools day. I do have a friend lives about 750 feet from tornado path I will check on her tomorrow.

Too many power lines are down to move around safely.

In no way do these storms match the ones in Arkansas and the midwest earlier in the week.

yeah saw that stuff hit NJ on the weather channel. glad youre safe, dont take any chances.

I will be driving out in the morning to go to the. mine in north jersey. I will look around a bit in my area to see how much damage happened.

We were lucky it was a smaller tornado 🌪️.

So far in New Jersey since 1992 this is third or fourth time  that they have be closer than 10 miles.

We are not exactly tornado alley.

4708  Economy / Economics / Re: Fed on brink of fifth(?) round of quantitative easing on: April 01, 2023, 07:35:05 PM
Hyper inflation will not happen for the USD.

Hyper inflation is a nuts number by definition.

50% a month

see definition here:

https://www.investopedia.com/terms/h/hyperinflation.asp

USD is not doing 1% a month.  Think 0.5% to 0.8% the last 17-20 months

If it was hyper inflation eggs would have went from 2 usd a dozen to 6650

They have gone from 2 to 7 the last 20 months. that is 0.64%

so talking that 0.64% is hyperinflation when 50% is the definition is simply way off.

The Fed is doing what may very well be "The Battle of the Bulge" that was a desperate military last ditch effort for the Nazis in WWII

BTW it failed .

The FED will do 0.25% in a month again for sure and very likely 0.25% in mid June.

At this point they may run out of ammo so to speak. Should be fun to see how it goes.
4709  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Need help for cooling a closed room on: April 01, 2023, 07:23:33 PM
Hello,

My situation is this: my rigs are in a closed rood with only two vents for AC coming in.
AC is stuck at 20C/68F.

The room is closed: no windows and no way for the air to get out.
The room also cannot be modified, since it's not my house and the owner has refused any modifications I proposed.
...
...
Leave the door open?

The obvious solution would be to convert one of the two aircon inlets into an outlet. Might be very easy if you are handy, or a complete disaster if it goes wrong.

But as others wrote already, you need to let the heat out, somehow.

How about a few extra washers placed on the door hinges to lift it off the floor to create a leak?

What is above the room?

If you have a quality wood door.

Say like this:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Krosswood-Doors-32-in-x-80-in-Rustic-Knotty-Alder-2-Panel-Top-Rail-Arch-Solid-Core-Wood-Stainable-Interior-Door-Slab-AE-1213280SLB/202980361

and access to a proper circular saw like this :

https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-15-Amp-Corded-7-1-4-in-Lightweight-Circular-Saw-DWE575/203273038

you could remove ½ to maybe ¾ inches from bottom of the door.

Good luck fixing the heating issues.

Wish it was simpler to buy. I have had no issues at all ordering from bitmain to be honest. I would love an XP for 3000 dollars

Yeah 3k for the xp is decent price.

I have studied the way it is worded and it is too ambiguous. Very likely they will hold you payment and then send a refund.

It seems to be designed to give them an interest free loan.

What if there is a single machine capable of pulling these kind of numbers?

I do wonder what happens outside of the public eye...
One machine is a no go.
But larger machines like 1ph a unit is a yes.
Aaannnd it looks like Theymos has a really annoying April Fools 'captcha' going. Had to check Meta area to find out WTF was going on... Huh

Anywho, I highly doubt 1ph from one 'miner' per-se is possible. Now a cluster/node of miner modules in a rack fed by 1 controller and one honkin big PSU/PDN, ala Intel's liquid cooled reference setup or Bitmain's hydro doing 1ph or more per rack - sure.

I was thinking of this

https://microbt-whatsminer.com/whatsminer-m53-water-cooling-mining-hardware-and-its-comprehensive-application-examples/

but you are correct the rack setup is not a single miner per sea

Even more fucked is the NFT part.

Promoting putting garbage in blockchains is just ridiculous.

Well, we don't care about altcoins do we? Problem is spamming Bitcoin and devs doing nothing about it.

The excuse that mining must be kept alive at "any" cost, can only come from people who don't care about Bitcoin and only want to make the most money out of it and leave when it clogs perhaps having some altcoin they secretly push ready to take its place...

And Bitmain stopped being a Bitcoin company the moment they manufactured ASICs for other algorithms, or tried forking Bitcoin.

Bitmain is $$ per watt coin. No more no less.

And BTC has a real issue long term.

Not enough rewards for miners means miners will leave the coin and mine a better algo.

Scrypt is better for miners in the long run. maybe 🤔

Satoshi wanted a electrical power to coin payment system.

He built it. It kind of works.

But i would argue scrypt has more staying power than btc.

I will be dead before that plays out. say 2060 I could be wrong but I think at 103 I will be gone and m8ners will favor scrypt over sha 256

Well, they went and indicted him.  Well, "let's say" that BTC price was around $28,100 (close enough) as the news broke.

BTC

BTC

Likely even more of a bargain than ever.

I just hope that the righteous do NOT react violently.  The last thing the battered USA needs now.  Now if a Red State DA wants to go after Hunter B, well........................

yeah Hunter and Hillary and Trump that would be quite a trifecta.

Its not that Trump should not be indicted, but all three of them clearly broke multiple laws.

Bitcoin is not a currency. It's just a highly speculative asset with a fundamental value of zero.

source

one can say it has a fundamental value of zero.

but reality is it has a real utility value in managing the world wide grid.

It it a great tool when a wind farm generates 10mega watts an hour and demand is 4 megawatts the extra 6 megawatts need to be shunted somewhere.  Say a nearby btc mine.

And when demand increases to 6.5 megawatts an hour the mine can back off to 3.5 megawatts.

Miners are a really good resistive load.

Secondary purpose is hear generation in the example above quite a bit of heat will be produced by this miners and it can be fed into heating grids.

dollar nope
euro nope
gen nope.
