4721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin's Dystopian Future on: April 19, 2013, 07:03:22 PM
Yeah, there are some possible grim side effects, but they mostly have to do with currently conditioned human behavior and its reaction to change. The behavior problems can be addressed independently of the financial system. The real benefits of Bitcoin that cause positive behavioral changes will overshadow the negative in the short term. Ultimately, we are people with our foibles. It will take something more drastic than Bitcoin to change that.
4722  Economy / Service Discussion / Coinbase business model on: April 19, 2013, 06:54:32 PM
They call themselves a wallet and payment platform that also acts like an exchange. I think it is an ingenius model. I've been buying and occasionally selling bitcoins there since November '12. It is slow to actually get the coins and at times I've wondered how they can float the money for a future money transfer. Because it takes so long, it only makes sense to make trades that are longer in expectations. It makes no sense to tie up money for a week for a short term profit. The exchange cannot be manipulated by false orders. Coinbase users are most likely cautious investors and probably a good indicator where the market is trending.

Schmidt also revealed that Google wanted to create a rival to Internet peer to peer currency Bitcoin. The company planned to call it "Google Bucks." Though Schmidt said peer to peer currencies like Bitcoin are "a great idea," Google Bucks never got off the ground because these currencies are illegal in many countries.

It's not illegal now. Let's see Google try to make a rival to Bitcoin, and then eventually end up mining Bitcoin.
4724  Economy / Speculation / Re: And now - the sucker's rally on: April 19, 2013, 04:35:15 PM
The graph like pattern can be considered a fractal. And so on any given day or moment, we can find the exact same pattern. The last 12 hours looks like this!

So, as the time horizon extends, and the graph gets larger, we shall see the same pattern on an extended scale. say 2660 to 550 stabilizing at 1150, only to move to 22600, etc.

But the patter remains the same, just the scale differs.

my two satoshis.
The patterns are not limited to the timeline. These patterns can be recursive as well.
4725  Economy / Speculation / Re: And now - the sucker's rally on: April 19, 2013, 04:25:21 PM
Bitcoin is fractal. You will see self-similar patterns with any given optics. There are bubbles within bubbles.

4727  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The intelligence community on: April 19, 2013, 04:18:39 AM
They benefit from Bitcoin as much as anyone. They brought us modern encryption and TOR among other tools of privacy. Bitcoin brings them a way to smoothly conduct clandestine operations. We could use their help in developing a decentralized exchange system in order to stabilize Bitcoin's adoption.

Mission Statement

We are devoted to creating an America free from gun violence, where all Americans are safe at home, at school, at work, and in our communities.

The Brady Campaign works to pass and enforce sensible federal and state gun laws, regulations, and public policies through grassroots activism, electing public officials who support common sense gun laws, and increasing public awareness of gun violence. Through our Million Mom March and Brady Chapters, we work locally to educate people about the dangers of guns, honor victims of gun violence, and pass sensible gun laws, believing that all Americans, especially children, have the right to live free from the threat of gun violence.

The Brady Center works to reform the gun industry by enacting and enforcing sensible regulations to reduce gun violence, including regulations governing the gun industry. In addition, we represent victims of gun violence in the courts. We educate the public about gun violence through litigation, grassroots mobilization, and outreach to affected communities.

Where is this strawman anti-gun lobby of yours? I have seen no legislation that would ban guns outright. Please edify me.
4730  Other / Off-topic / Re: What types of pressure cookers should be banned? on: April 18, 2013, 09:42:43 PM
Pressure cookers are illegal if they are connected with copper tubing to a thump keg and a worm box.
4731  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Getting my head round it. on: April 18, 2013, 09:20:34 PM
Because of the size of the numbers used in Bitcoin, the odds against an address collision are beyond astronomical.

There should be a Magic the Gathering Online Exchange.

Exchanges are our only means of assessing value to our coins. How would you do that without comparing to other currencies via exchanges?

XBTCC it is.
4736  Other / Off-topic / Re: Netflix Recommendations? on: April 18, 2013, 07:18:55 PM
Just use the Netflix rating system on movies you have seen. It will recommend movies you may like based on algorithms. It works pretty well for me. I've rated over 1500 movies so far.

Guns don't keep people safe. Bombs keep people safe. Bombs win wars, not guns. We don't have nukular guns, we have nuclear bombs. Bombs are freedom. Bombs are liberty. Bombs promote peace and love. Pussies use guns.  Cheesy
Guns keep people safe. Nukes keep nations safe.
Guns didn't help the people in Boston now did they?
You're implying a bomb would have?
Neither would have. My contention is that assault weapons and bombs are only good for military applications. Civilians have no need for them because they offer no substantial benefits and often become a heavy burden on the people.

4739  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Phillipino nannies remit over $20billion yr on: April 18, 2013, 04:31:19 PM
I'm working on moving to the Philippines this Fall. I 100% agree with the OP. Not only is it ideal for OFW remittance, but also for their private loan system. It will be easier to get friends and family overseas to help repay micro-loans through Bitcoin.
