Mining is profitable again for some old hardware. This means more miners will turn their hardware to mine. Could it be a good bet to buy some S7 cloud services on the hashnest cloud mining platform?

Rather than buying S7, rent S4 or S5. Price/Profit margin is way too higher in S4 and S5. S7's are overpriced in the market right now.
Mining is profitable if you use the right device.
I'm buying S5's at these prices and I think they're really cheap& very profitable.

All depends on the price of electricity.  But S5's and others in it's generation kinda have new life. They were still worth running at 230 per btc.   Now at 330 it is really worth running.

If price keeps gong up I sure wont be selling these anytime soon.

after following guide and everything says no devices detected.

Are you using windows? I'm guessing so since that is what the guide was based on.  What does it show under hardware when it's plugged in?  Does it see the uart....in there? Or nothing?

I run off the guide, it sees the UART, but once cgminer is run nothing is detected. Went off the guide, unless I am missing something.

Try re-installing the driver to see if it makes any difference.  Normally on windows it's a driver issue.  Make sure it say's sucessful on install.  I don't know if it makes a big difference but I went with most current when I did install instead of old version Bitmain shows in guide.

I have a feeling it's all about drivers and once you get them to work it will go fine.
Im using Zadig as the guide says. The only option is WinUSB (v6.1.7600.16385). Is that the most current?

I think official site is http://zadig.akeo.ie/ .  Might try it there I'm sure the zadig is updated, not sure on winusb.  I know when I loaded mine but I did most recent.   It worke for me on a windows 8.

If you have lots of issues look into getting a RPI.  Honestly linux is a lot easier then windows with some of these drivers.  Crazy Guy actually sells some controllers that are already set up:

Raspberry Pi B and B+ with custom build of Minera
A10 Cubie with custom build of Minera

From latest SEC filing. Predicting $60M revenue for 2016 and generally SP50s in Q1 2016 as long as they can raise more money. I'd be very surprised if this filing wasn't specifically so they can provide the information to more potential investors.

Thanks for sharing was a interesting read.  I'm surprised in Q1 only 500 SP50 is assumed.  Does not sound like a ton of miners but I guess they are massive in hashrate.

Will be interesting to see how correct they are on the number SP50's during Q1. I really want to see their having expectations.  That is the other numbers I want to see what the big companies assume.

If the person held 2 BTC, it would have already been worth ~650 USD, i.e. he would have made 250 USD by doing nothing. Smiley

And a lot of us are good at doing nothing Smiley.  I want to see S7 prices when it comes back.  People at beginning were buying at 230 BTC now it is 330.  That is a huge difference on buying a miner.   If they don't raise it the ones buying at 330 will be getting a much quicker ROI.

Life Inside a Bitcoin Mine: Interview with Genesis Mining’s Marco Streng

CoinTelegraph spoke with Genesis Mining head Marco Streng on the current state of the mining industry, the Life Inside a Bitcoin Mine project that aims to make cloud mining transparent, and how he sees the Bitcoin industry moving forward.

If so, how were S5+ owners supposed to comply with SOP re: warranty compliance?

I did complety as I was scared to lose my warranty on a multi thousand dollar unit.  Normally in past my testing of a machine would include over and under clocking.... but I did not do it on S5+ as I thought losing warranty for it was not worth it.  I got lucky mine works great - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1157426.0

They honestly have gotten a lot tighter on warranty.  I can see from  a business standpoint why they want it.  But they just are not supporting modding in any way.
4748  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is mining dead ? on: October 31, 2015, 12:13:28 AM
*was to long
If the BTC price would still go up, then more miners would get onlined, but profitability per miner would remain the same. More miners would mine Bitcoin until it is no longer profitable to add more at the 0.01$/kWh. Then when BTC go down, people would probably still mine at a loss and just sell when it go back up.

So difficulty would not change much or at least, not quickly.

Diff up and diff down would probably become speculative on the BTC trending price.

But you can't say how much BTC price would go up.   You are making a fictional situation that will not happen.  BTC price remaining same or going up same amount, and difficulty remaing same where people don't make new gear... its far fetched.

Look at price on BTC it went up 100 dollars each on value pretty recent.   You just cannot predict all factors and there will not be a normalization where all asic makers stop making gear.   Your idea about what would happen if we didn't have new gear is again fictional, BTC companies are in a arms race and will continue to make more and more efficient gear.
4749  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newbie help on: October 31, 2015, 12:07:13 AM
The Sidehack sticks are the only sticks in existance that use a reasonably-current ASIC - they are far superior in pretty much every way to any other stick out there, and oddly enough they're actually cheaper than some folks try to sell their older outdated stuff for.

DO pay attention to the power need though, they DO greatly exceed USB 3 (much less USB 2) specs for how much the port can supply if you run them anywhere near their maximum capabilities.

It's a little dated at this point but best guide on USB hub is here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=253749.0

It varies greatly on how many usb sticks you can use and how much power they have.  The above guide gives you a god idea on some different hubs and power they have.

And us home miners care about S7s on hashnest why?

 Huh

As it's' not a bad thing to have a miner in the "cloud" if a legit service.  It's nice being able to sell hash/miner in cloud.

But your right with US and decent electricity I do most of mine as hardware in my control.   But i like to have small holdings in the "cloud".

I wants a U4 for home mining, or sell sidehack their newest chip and he can make a newer USB miner.
I think everyone wants Bitmain to sell their chips to Sidehack but I don't think they want to.

We are honestly lucky they sold him a initial batch.  I'm surprised they did that even.   The great thing is sidehack with his skills will be able to take boards and get the chips.... which is a  great way around them not selling chips.   So hopefully we see some pods with this which I think we will.

And I'm hoping one of the other companies coming with miners will sell him chips.  Avalon, Innsilicon, etc have a chance at least of selling.  So we can hope they do.

Paper wallets are as bout as cold as it gets. You set up one print it off from a safe printer, and make it on a computer that is for sure clean and has no malware/virus problems.

You put this away in a safe, or safty deposit box.  Something very secure to hold it, also have a few copies in case as you don't want one copy incase something happens to it.

But then use a phone app, or blockchain to view your address without having access to your account.  it is nice since you can watch it hopefully grow and not have to worry about connecting to internet and becoming a hot wallet each time you want to see how much you have.

dont push nebies into gambling.
I agree newbies are not advisable  for gambling, you dont know if you win or lost and if the newbie will not control himself of set a rules in playing gambling he will be come addicted later on.
No I don't push them into gambling. I atarted without any bakance and within one hour i hade 1.5 dollars
I have to say 1.5 dollars in 1 hours is unbelievable can you show me the link to the game?

It is to good to be true most likely.  Which is sad as it is still a little amount really in money.  Free faucet's/games are as general rule cents per hour.  You are paid less then they make off ads.... which online is very very small.

I don't recommend gambling or faucets for OP.  He could buy 5 dollars worth of BTC and save hundreds of hours of faucet use if he want's it just to play with.
4753  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Advise for mining on: October 30, 2015, 05:01:02 PM
Even at 3 cent electric the S3 would be a poor choice, unless you can get them almost free and get some very low cost efficient PS to run them with.

I was just saying no older then this.  He is free to get newer and yes he will have more hash.   It all depends on what price he can get gear at.  As I think S7 is overkill on .03 cents currently.

If OP can get a deal on S5's or something in that generation yes he will be doing very good at .03 cents.  I think with so low electricity a used miner is quicker ROI in most cases (he needs to do ROI math before buying).
He has a great budget, he could buy 1 S7 and 3 S5 and have great resales on the S7, he would be able to pump out around 17$ a day, one month and he is already paying off the S5. Looks like if he went this plan he could have an ROI in 202 Days and easily resell for a ton.

You are right he's in a awsome position as far as options.  A quick ROI on S5's sounds interesting to me just since quick ROI, then he can add more miners after that.   If he got a S7 yes he would be able to use it for quite some time.  If we only knew having and what it would do, but it stands a chance of still running on having if BTC value is decent on S7.

So pros/cons on both sides.

4756  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Free electricity on: October 30, 2015, 04:49:48 PM
Be careful with "free electricity" someone has to pay for it. That someone might be very unhappy if they find out that the usage multiplied.

Since it is free why not experiment with the mining rigs.
To see if it worth mining or not, as long as you have the free electricity.
There is a reason for this, maybe the electricity is very cheap to be produced in that location or maybe only for students?

It depends on how you get the "free" electricity.  Most student locations I lived in with "free" electricity it was limited due to not giving a ton of electricity to apartment or dorm room.  Also in both I really did not want to mine in my bedroom.  So i put them elsewhere and paid for electricity.

If it is included in rent sure go for it.  Just don't go crazy on amount.  Speaking as someone who pays electricity if you go big it makes a pretty large electricity bill, you landlord will not be happy if you add 10k watts worth of gear.  So moderation is key.   And if it is mom/day paying it honestly talk to them before mining.
4757  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining rigs rental is that profitable? on: October 30, 2015, 04:43:50 PM
An ICO would make it profitable if the coin had a following and a decent price.  I got out of the mining game because Florida is too hot to keep home mining profitable and the power cost is to great for me.

The heat is a challenge for anyone that setup's a decent amount of miners.  I had to do a lot off CFM's of fans to get through the summer.

I'm lucky winter is coming and it's cooling down.  But for initial investment I now can mine during summers from this point on with using fan's and not AC which saves a lot of money.
Whats the ambient temp of your mining room? If I didn't use ac it would get up to 84 degrees inside which I didn't allow my miners to run in.  I mean how hot does a data center get?

It's already in winter air now so it's actually pretty cool.   Mine got hot during summer but I pushed it with lot's of CFM's.   I don't live in a area evaporation cooling would would work with humidity.

This is like 15k CFM pushing air through where miners are:

Then the problem was I needed more exhust so I used a lot nicer gable fan - http://www.homedepot.com/p/QuietCool-Professional-3013-CFM-Power-Gable-Mount-Attic-Fan-AFG-PRO-3-0/206047381

But on temp it was 80F ambient maybe some day's in 90F  at it's hottest.   But with all the CFM's it made it through it no problems.
I would cringe with my miners in a room that hot lol. Guess they can run in hotter areas than I thought

I did a little most of time it was 80's or less.  The 90 day's I did not enjoy that's what caused me getting the big fan's.  And it worked perfect with the new gable fan it could push air out very quickly.  Part of it is that it is hot when you run 12-14k watts in a area of miners.

Now it's winter weather for most part and very cool.   So great weather right now.  And most likely will remain this way till summer.

Mining BTC on SHA256 asics is most profitable way to do it anymore.

Too many factors involved for that statement to be 100% accurate.

Litecoin mining for folks that already own Titans was a little MORE profitable last summer than Bitcoin mining with S5/SP20 already owned gear. Alcheminer/clone and A2 based gear could argue the point.

The current rapid rise in Bitcoin pricing is also largely being reflected in Litecoin pricing, but Litecoin difficulty hasn't (yet) been going up to match. Both have gotten a LOT more profitable in the last week, and if the current price rise holds up, it might manage to make buying S7/Avalon6/BEleven gear able to achieve RoI with non-super-cheap electric.

Then again, the price could start collapsing again tomorrow, and this prove to be just a BIG pump-and-dump.

I suspect the price will stay up and probably keep climbing for a while, though - the economic news out of China the last week has NOT been good, and the current escalating "push-back" on China's South China Sea push isn't helping the uncertainty in the region.

Part of it is litecoin has halved and it was main coin for most to mine.   And some gear is getting pretty dated.  BTC gear it seems a few machines a year at least.    But with scrypt only new one in a long while was SFards which disappeared.  So they are mining with more and more dated gear.

With the newer efficient BTC gear and recent higher value on BTC I think it is better in most cases of mining.
4760  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is Mining profitable? on: October 30, 2015, 04:30:32 PM
I am mining and it is not profitable for me.
But it does absolutly not matter.
And I have paid the highest price for my U2
I have not wanted try with a second hand and I have prefered to have the garantee to return it if problems or I were unable to use it.

So now I do not regret to have it even if I'm in lost certainly for ever.

I propose the "comining"...so if you are a micro miner like me...comine with me and you will save the high fees for little withdraw.
Think about.

Stick miners are not for profit they are for fun.  It just cost's more per hash on stick miners.   So using a U2 really is not going to get you a profit.

But yes mining is profitable for many people still.  A lot were profitable at 230..... so at 330 per coin that is a hug bump in mining so many more are much more profitable now.
