4741  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FTX has been hacked, delete the app, don't go to website on: November 12, 2022, 05:39:39 AM
I’ve heard over 300 million dollars has already been taken. Possibly up to a billion dollars. Early speculation is that it’s an inside job by FTX employees or possibly even Sam trying to make a getaway. I’ll wait until we find out what really happened but it sounds like this is quickly on its way to becoming a Hollywood movie. Be careful out there!
4742  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Not your key not your coins is real, not just quoted. on: November 12, 2022, 12:32:37 AM
That quote "Not your key not your coins" I just know work from today when looking how difficult to withdraw our money if we don't have the private key and seed.

As I know, this is not the first time the exchange or other platform hold customer money in their pocket. it's obvious de facto, it's our money but they can't give to us.

So my friend or the community, for this incident I hope you don't keep your money on exchange again, trust me!. this thing keeps repeating many time, we have to worry if happen in small exchange, but this very big exchange. So, are you sure in the next not happen in Binance, kraken, crypto.com, coinbase, and etc.?, I don't believe is not happen again on big exchange, because this already happened, believe me the big waves will come be much bigger

I am very grateful to save my small money to wallet where I have the key. I don't worry, I sleep well and have sweet dreams.

There are already wallets where you can keep the private key with free and open source, I don't know why they don't think that. I don't know why they believe the exchange than himself?

It is definitely said for a reason and not just to be cute.  Plenty of services have gone down over the years costing their users everything.  Especially in times like now, it's extremely important to take custody of your coins and keep them in cold storage where they will not be at risk.  Everyone should be taking this opportunity to do a 'bank run' on these exchanges and make them prove their reserves.  Don't be the guy who is lazy and helps contribute to them being able to continue running rampant with our funds.  Withdraw everything.  Wait a month, then put it back if you feel you must.  It is extremely important that you do not do nothing and then complain later if you are never able to see your funds again.
4743  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crypto exchange wars going on... FTX vs Binance on: November 12, 2022, 12:28:22 AM
And I'm just dropping by to ask for those people who experienced Mt Gox, which event has had the bigger impact for you, Mt Gox's insolvency or FTX?  I feel like after seeing a lot happen in crypto my reaction was like 'haha another one'.  But with Mt Gox it felt like it was going to be the end of BTC, the market and the whole space.  But I was noob then.

Well, I should start off by saying that I had no exposure to FTX and did not lose any coins as a result.  However, when mtgox went down Bitcoin was still a pretty low value asset.  Even though I have still not received those coins back, at the time it felt like a loss of a couple thousand dollars.  It hurt, but was not the end of the world.  Now though, Bitcoin is of much higher value so even though I had no exposure to FTX, the widen market chaos it inflicted has cost me a great deal more in losses on my portfolio.  So I would say that this FTX event is far larger than mtgox, which has likely cost a lot more people to lose a lot more money, if only because the crypto market has grown so much since then.

What do you think.

1. Thread with 1000 pages no longer display a signature.

If the mega-threads bother you, why not avoid them?  There's already an option in your forum settings to not display signatures if they are an annoyance to you.  I think the forum is happy that these mega-threads exist as they drive user interaction and inflate statistics so that the forum looks more popular.  This can help with the valuation of the forum or raising funds through advertisements or even ranking among websites.  I don't think there's really a good reason to start treating long threads differently.  Especially when the option I mention exists for users.
4745  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Whats going on with difficulty today, loving it! on: November 11, 2022, 11:02:47 PM
So I see the difficulty going down pretty well in the last 24 hours, especially the ETHW is in less than 300 T now and ETC less than 1.8 P while RVN also less than 200K,looking good but is this because of the FTX drama or because many miners are realizing now that they can't do much with their rigs until they are like I am mining even at a loss for a longer run and much better perspective than it is now?

What are your views in this, many of you predicted that difficulty lowering down would happen in a couple of months but it is happening in just 1.5 months after ETH moved to PoS.

I would imagine that a lot of people got burned by FTX directly or by having leveraged positions liquidated as a result of the market action. Many of these people are probably considering this the final straw and throwing in the towel as the stress becomes too much to bear. As always when there’s a panic, this is probably the best time for fresh money to enter the markets in order to bank off the next uptrend. If you can afford to mine right now, it’s probably a good time in spite of what the calculators say.

I still have some of these 10oz silver monsters (plates) available and ready to be engraved.  With Bitcoin back to hitting new highs it could be time to pull the trigger if you've had your eye on one of these beasts to add to your collection.  Go Bitcoin go!  Smiley

Bitcoin dragging the lows but everything else remains true! Grab yourself a silver plate if you haven’t yet!
4747  Economy / Speculation / Re: The world is not doing well on: November 11, 2022, 10:54:33 PM
Dollar exchange rate strengthened. Bitcoin is weak.
For those who don't like Bitcoin, don't get excited about this situation just yet. I just want to say that the world is not doing well.
For Bitcoiners, we must be strong and patient with the situation. The world will be ours.

I think we’ve seen peak dollar already. It’s broken it’s uptrend and stocks have all started rising as a result of the lowered inflation expectations. It’s possible that we’ve seen the worst of the cycle with the crash in tech stocks. If job losses can be contained and wages rise significantly as inflation is accepted by consumers then we might see the markets avoid another massive drop. I have hope. This doesn’t feel as bad as 2008, but it’s possible we’re still early.
4748  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 11, 2022, 04:31:05 PM
The market can’t quite make up its mind on a direction to take, but it is doing it’s best to liquidate as many bulls and bears as possible while it decides. I’d urge people not to be making reckless bets right now to try and recoup losses. Now is the time to be buying BTC and taking it off of exchanges. If you’re leaving funds of any kind on exchanges right now, you should be prepared to lose it.
4749  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: November 11, 2022, 04:28:39 PM
I only follow a couple of these fighters but below are my picks. I think Dustin Poirier is on top of his game right now and looking to continue on the success he’s had since meeting McGregor in the ring.

The Adesanya fight is the most interesting fight in the card for me. I think he has a lot at stake in this fight and has probably done everything he can to be ready for it. He’s trying to correct the biggest mistake in hos fighting career and I think it will be a great fight.

9. Poirier, Dustin vs Chandler, Michael        --  Poirier, Dustin
11. Adesanya, Israel vs Pereira, Alex         -- Adesanya, Israel
4750  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: NVIDIA has reportedly removed LHR from its newest drivers on: November 11, 2022, 06:43:28 AM
Any question that starts with "is it true" is just trying to stir up shit.

No anti-LHR was 100% because there was no reference to compare against until now.

LHR is dead. Update your drivers, stop using anti-LHR and move on.
LHR died when ethereum mining ended. It is not profitable to mine Ethereum forks on the 3000 series of Geforce video maps.
We sometimes discuss old video cards, because for 70-80 dollars you can get 30 megahash on the Ethash algorithm.

It is profitable for me to mine ETC with my 3060ti with the new non-LHR drivers.  I can't be alone.  I'm sure many others who have made cheap electricity a point in their lives are also able to turn a profit with 3xxx series GPUs.  This is probably when they are still not as cheap as one would think given the supply hanging over the GPU market at the moment.  As far as this thread is concerned, I have also confirmed that the latest Nvidia drivers do not include the LHR that has plagued so many of us the last couple of years.
4751  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Can FTX Token Beat Its All-time High Of $100? on: November 11, 2022, 06:28:48 AM
Jumping in too early will put you in high risk and catching a falling knife is not smart.

No matter how much you say this, people will always reach out for that falling knife.  The idea that it could recover and they make a fortune is just too much to resist.  You see it a lot with newer investors who think the massive and quick volatility is their best chance to make money.  Personally, I've found that people like Warren Buffett are right when they say that it's better to own good companies than whatever is hot at the moment.  Why own some garbage like FTT when you could own BTC?  It's common sense that people overlook sometimes out of greed.
4752  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Btc wallets difficult to use on: November 11, 2022, 06:15:26 AM
Yes they are difficult to use most easy Are blockchain.
This is the reason why exchangers still popular
Can you tell one safe and secure btc wallet ?
Wich one is safe?

I usually tell people to give Electrum a try.  It's one of the more popular wallets out there and you don't have to download the blockchain in order to use it, so it's something you can setup completely in a couple of minutes.  It's also pretty self explanatory or I'm sure there are plenty of videos online if you need help how to store you funds.  So long as you backup your private key and your computer isn't compromised already, you should be fine.  Times like now when people aren't sure what to believe it is important to take custody of your funds to avoid losing them.  You might be glad you did.
4753  Economy / Speculation / Re: All Assets are seized for FTX... Its over! on: November 11, 2022, 06:06:18 AM
I think people need to realize how interconnected a lot of these companies are with certain investment schemes.  There's a good chance we haven't seen the last player to fall as a result of this mess.  A lot of companies are coming out to say that they have no exposure to FTX, but a lot of them have partners with exposure to Alameda, or that will have funds caught up with partners who were using FTX, etc...  This is definitely one of those GET YOUR COINS OFF OF EXCHANGES moments.  The widespread damage might take weeks to fully be known and as Sam himself said, a lot of these exchanges may be insolvent already...
4754  Economy / Speculation / Re: FTX allowing Justin Sun coins swap... with 80% hair cut on: November 10, 2022, 11:26:16 PM
If Justin Sun is involved then you can bet that the only person who is going to benefit is Justin Sun. He’s using this as a way for him to profit from the losses and frustrations of others. I doubt it’s really going to help FTX at all and more likely will just be another layer of fleecing that customers have to endure if they want to recover anything from this mess.
4755  Economy / Speculation / Re: Terra cofounder Do Kwon is the one who is pumping Bitcoin on: November 10, 2022, 11:16:16 PM
I can’t believe Do Kwon is still publicly participating in video chats while on the run. He must think he’s bulletproof. The authorities can’t be happy about it. Martin Shkreli telling Do Kwon that jail isn’t that bad made for a good video clip, but it’s still crazy to see Do Kwon out and about knowing that he destroyed so many people in order to stash massive amount of money for himself.
4756  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: November 10, 2022, 11:13:09 PM
Have you guys already watched the pre fight press conference?  If not watch it here...
Maybe Adesanya is not in perfect mental condition before this fight, he is thinking of coming back to light heavyweight division, if he completes the job in middleweight again.
It was cool to see Israel Adesanya and Alex Pereira facing off before real faceoff on the roof of the Empire State Building check this short video  Smiley
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nL2qKFyzYY

It's nice because it's probably going to be the first fight in a long time where I get those pre fight jitters. I'm excited for that.
Same here.
There was a lot of boring fights and events in last few weeks, and they are all forgotten quickly.
Both Adesanya and Pereira need to perform best ever for different reasons, but rest of the card is also great.
There is Dominick Reyes vs Ryan Spann in Prelims, so don't miss this one guys.

I would agree that Adesanya doesn’t seem like himself heading into this fight. I think he may even be a little afraid. In their face off I felt like I could feel the fear in him. Hopefully he has grown a lot since their last fight and is able to take home a W. It seems a bit like he’s fighting for his legacy here and I’m a little worried if he loses again it could be catastrophic for his mental health.
4757  Economy / Economics / Re: I smell Fed pivot on: November 10, 2022, 11:09:59 PM
The lower than expected inflation reading in the US has given investors reason to cheer as they feel inflation is moving in the right direction and the fed will be able to pivot sooner than was previously being expected. While inflation is still extremely high, it is beginning to look like the worst is behind us and maybe the fed will get back to it’s easy money policy sooner than later.
4758  Economy / Speculation / Re: No more correlation with stocks? on: November 10, 2022, 01:40:42 PM
I don’t know… It feels pretty correlated. My crypto portfolio and stock portfolios are both getting hammered. Sure, some days they may not move the same direction but the overall trend is certainly similar. I’d say my stocks are holding up much better, but I also think crypto will recover faster. We’ll see. I think the recent activity shows that we aren’t quite to safe haven status yet, but the beginning of this bear market showed some promise.
4759  Economy / Speculation / Re: How is everyone doing? on: November 10, 2022, 01:37:57 PM
Thanks for asking. I’ve been mentally preparing myself for a $13K BTC so I’m not too worried yet. I will admit though, I was hoping we would see Bitcoin hold the $20K range. I am curious how deep this recession will be and if interest rates are going to continue rising while assets get clobbered. I still haven’t shut down all my GPU miners though and am still optimistic that once this crash is behind us, there will be brighter days ahead.
4760  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: November 10, 2022, 01:35:14 PM
A couple of good games airing on cable TV tonight. You have the battle of New York up first with the Brooklyn Nets facing off against the New York Knicks. Then game 2 of the doubleheader on ESPN is the battle of Los Angeles between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers. With all the craziness surrounding all of these teams I have no idea how the night will go, but I tend to always think the Nets and Lakers have a good chance at winning. Although I think the Nets are having their issues and so are the Lakers so tonight could get ugly.

The Brooklyn Nets were very good that night, and Durant hit his 17th career triple-double, it was a great debut for J. Vaughn. By the way, Durant became the first player since Jordan to score 25 points or more in each of his team's first 12 games of the season. The Nets are clearly doing better than the Lakers, who lost again, and LeBron was injured in the last quarter and could not finish the game...

I'm not surprised though, maybe Durant's head are clear now, admit it or not, him and Nash are not a perfect match and I would say that he has something to do with Nash departure.

Anyhow, since everything has settled down in Nets, and somewhat all the drama is not at the back seat, Durant can concentrate on playing his best basketball. We can't compare it to the Lakers though. They are still a mess and the team is not built to win even with Lebron and Davis and Westbrook playing very hard.

I don’t know if I’d say that everything has settled down for the Nets. Kyrie still has some things going on and we’re all a bit in the dark after his meeting with Adam Silver. Ben Simmons still is afraid to shoot the ball and KD is clearly unhappy… Nobody will trade for Ben Simmons and only the Lakers want Kyrie in exchange for peanuts. This Nets experiment went far worse than I was expecting.
