If I got a $100 anywhere the right to self-defense wasn't infringed to oblivion like NYC, I'd be checking it for counterfeit before allowing them to leave with whatever I got the $100 for. If they ran, I'd have probable cause to citizen arrest them for a felony, if they stayed, then I'd give them the number of the closest Secret Service field office and let them take it from there: http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml

4747  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fee deducted from the transferred amount. Insane. on: January 31, 2014, 07:20:14 AM
It's likely they're withdrawing from an exchange or other e-wallet that has a withdrawal fee in addition to the transaction fee. People need to either 1) stop using goddamn sites that charge withdrawal fees or 2) overbuy BTC on exchanges with withdrawal fees, withdraw to their personal wallet, then send from there, using the appropriate TX fee.

IOW, he'll be a witness against bigger fish...and I'm hopeful that at least on of the big fish will be Karpeles since he's fucked me personally for $5k.

You've kind of stated the issue as it is for most people.  Nobody around here has much reason to like Preet Bharara.  But in this case, he's going after people nobody likes much.  Good jerb, Preet.

4750  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Gavin Andresen Sincere when he says he cares deeply about privacy in Bitcoin? on: January 31, 2014, 02:19:18 AM
I really fear for the long term viability of Bitcoin and the abilities of vindictive governments to harass people if these anonymity features aren't implemented.

Ditto.

Future Bitcoin services need to be run as if they are illegal enterprises, like Silk Road, even if what they are doing is apparently legal.

Why:
  • Laws change.
  • Regulations are vague and open-ended, and it's probably impossible to operate a business without accidentally violating one.
  • Even if you do manage to operate without violating any rule law enforcement agencies do not always limit themselves to the letter of the law when deciding to begin an enforcement action.
  • Governments are not the only threats to a successful business. Non-governmental organized crime is almost equally capable of extortion.

The solution is to run all services in the darknet, not tied to any physical location or legal jurisdiction, and without any explicit connection to a real-life identity.

In order to reduce the risk of the operator running away with all the coins customers should start using Bitcoin like it was intended and only get involved with zero-trust business models instead of giving their money to companies that blindly emulate old paradigms.
4751  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: THERE IS NO TAX and there NEVER be any Tax on Bitcoin on: January 31, 2014, 01:52:52 AM
I don't want my bin collected weekly, collection which is provided by companies (typically government-sanctioned monopolies) right now, not government. http://edcodisposal.com

or my street lit at night! which is paid for by the property it is next to, to a utility company right now. http://sdge.com

I don't want a clean maintained park to give my dog a safe run in, that you need to pay even more money to (or start a cleanup organization), than just municipal taxes, if you want it to actually be clean and maintained http://www.santeelakes.com/things-to-do/ http://caninecornersdogpark.com

flood defences, that don't actually defend against floods, pretty much ever http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_levee_failures_in_Greater_New_Orleans http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19725625

the roads gritting when its icey, when companies sell to private entities too right now http://surplussalt.com/deicing-salts/

schools, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_school

or any of that useless shit! http://shitgovernmentsbuy.tumblr.com/

Eek, so you just have to steal a bitcoiner's iOS device and it's that easy to get access to whatever they have in bc.i?

On the iPod nano I just sold, it would apparently receive the artist - title from most local FM stations and display it onscreen.

But, but, it's been proven beyond a reasonable doubt that DPR was at all times Ross Ulbricht, and nobody could have possibly stolen his identity or been in control of the SR servers in order to set up that peacenik for hiring multiple murders! :p

4759  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin-themed banner to be waved during Super Bowl XLVIII in MetLife Stadium. on: January 30, 2014, 06:09:36 AM
But, there's still a solution if you're so game: I'll send you the graphic file, whereupon you'll have the printing done locally, of which I will pay FULLY via BTC for the printing of the banner and whatever other charges associated with doing such amounts to. For reference purposes, the cost associated for doing such here in Illinois is $54 USD for a one-sided, three foot square banner. I ordered two banners with the intent of sewing them together, thus making it a two-sided banner, but feel free to forego the two-sided option unless you feel advantageous.
