4741  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Dawkins: Immoral Not To Abort Down’s Syndrome Child on: August 25, 2014, 05:58:44 PM
Morality is nothing more than opinions about what is right, and opinions vary.
The bible says it is immoral to eat shellfish or loan money; and that morality requires the stoning to death of disobedient children.

A warning from a newb. Must be legit.
After all, the "lines are converging". lol  Huh

I wonder if fallling is sure enough to place a bet? When is this $350 coming? Date, price, amount to wager.

I suspect he is just a poor paid troll and will never accept any bet as he haven't had any bitcoins in possession.

That's ok. Gold, fiat, slaves; he must have something to bet with?

It's just that his guess does not carry the weight of a person who is buying bitcoin. They are putting their money where their mouth is. Wager some money and it's not just talk anymore.

Well, you have said all sorts of racist stuff. You reap what you sew.

I will definitely check this before I travel anywhere.

Perhaps its because people don't want anything to do with alt-coins? I know I don't.
4749  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Atheist evolutionary scientist convinced by the evidence on: August 22, 2014, 04:02:00 PM
I am familiar with that and I do think it is important. I'm an evolutionary biologist.  Grin

But I most interested in what is not known. That intersection of physics and biology is so fascinating.  My physicist friends all talk of "unifying" the small and large scale theories. For me you do not have a unified theory until you can explain the living state of matter. (or energy?).

My current pet theory rests in the work of steuart Hameroff and Roger Penrose. They looked at quantum effects in the cytoskeleton of living cells. this has led to a slew of observations of quantum weirdness in living things, such as the discovery of ordered water in plants. It is not known what it means or if they are on to something, but it could lead to better questions.

4750  Other / Politics & Society / Official government scripture – You are commanded to worship it! on: August 22, 2014, 03:45:52 PM
An official account of the history of God has been made for you to worship and obey. Your rulers have met and decided what stories should be considered true. Other stories you may believe in are against the law now and you will be punished for such thinking. You should begin switching over your temples in accordance with the new religion of the glorious empire.

Your pal,
-Emperor Constantine

I wonder how many people would follow the bible now if it were just created? What if Obama decided to make his own version of the Koran and made it a state religion? That is how we got the bible we use now.
It seems that many people are unaware of how the bible was created. Early Christians did not have a bible. They did have a large collection of stories, many more than you see in the bible. This presented a problem for the Romans when they finally joined in and made it the state religion.  Many early scriptures were anti-roman or conflicted with the official stance of the empire.
The solution was to create an officially approved “bible” of stories that were consistent with Roman laws and sensibilities. A large, but unknown, number of scriptures were thrown out. Scriptures that Christians of that time believed in. That is where the bible we know came from.

If you were living then, would you obey?

Why is there a need for life to evolve? Is gravity the force that pushes the rock up that hill? The petabyte of data explore the how. If you knew why life evolve you could be able to stop it too. As far as I know that is impossible. Life ALWAYS finds a way . But why the need to find a way?

That is a central question! We know that life is some kind of a chemical/physical reaction that keeps itself going. But why? The most common interpretation is that once such a reaction happens by chance it is hard to stop. That could be right, but we really don't know because we really don't know what life is. It could be a normal outcome of the interaction of matter and energy. It could be a quantum phenomena that spans several dimensions. Perhaps we can't understand it because we can't see what is going on in those other dimensions?

Why indeed.  Huh
4752  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dropping to $350, do not buy in any dead cat bounces on: August 22, 2014, 03:09:00 PM
it dropped to 310 on one exchange for like 5 minutes, because of a 6000 coin market sell dump. no other exchange made it past 400. just saying.

+1 If I sold you a bitcoin today for $100, it would not make the price of a bitcoin $100. There is no official price of bitcoin. Each bitcoin peer makes their own deal, the price is about $500. You may get one cheaper or you may have to pay more.

How bout a banner that says: "Almost every single thread in this section is part of a scam. You would be considered profoundly stupid to participate in any endeavor here."

You could also do what I do and just block the alt section. Its a ridiculous part of the forums and I don't see why bitcointalk has it. So many newbies get robbed there and then complain about how bitcoin is a scam.

I wonder what our believers would say if he claimed he saw god in his research and it was Ahura Mazda, the god of Zoroastrianism. Many doctors around the world believe in Hindu gods, are they wrong? And what about the overwhelming majority that see no evidence whatsoever of a god? Why is this one guy right?

No effect on me. I have only used bitcoin with Amagi. Besides, fiat has germs and coke all over it. Best to avoid it.  Cheesy

Looks to me like this is proof that all the crap living in Venus' upper atmosphere can survive the voyage to Earth.

Wha?
Is it the crop circle? You know the people who were making these have come forward. They have videos of the making each one.
Is it the orbit of Venus? Its an ellipse, like all the other planets. I don't understand why they drew a star in the middle?
Is it the "symbol" for Quetzalcoatl's head dress? Because there is no such symbol in Mayan. Quetzalcoatl, which means something like "snake bird" was a primary God of the Maya. The "head dress" depicts the feathers of the bird they believed contained his spirit. Below is a picture of the Quetzal.

4758  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin as a socially fair currency on: August 22, 2014, 01:50:39 PM
Few people own bitcoins today. A tiny percent of the world's population. I think it's totally fair from an investment point of view. The problem is that the really big investors, almost all of whom have zero bitcoins today, would not start to invest in bitcoin today when more than half of all bitcoins have already been mined. That would be like giving their power away to the current bitcoin owners who already have invested.
I see what you mean, but I'm betting against it happening that way. My reasons are these:

A professional investor is thrilled if he/she can make 10% a year. There is a huge growth potential in bitcoin that is far, far beyond the growth of something like Face Book stock. It is not unrealistic to think bitcoin could grow another 200% by the end of the year. That kind of potential is not going to get left on the table.

Those people who are going to try "investing" in bitcoin may think they are late to the game. So what, they can't just make their own coin. They have no choice. They can buy bitcoin or they can get nothing. It does not matter how many coins are mined. All that matters is growth potential. That IS the game.

How $#!ty  Angry

Banks only listen to one thing. If you have an account at this bank and can cancel it, that will make waves. Tell them your interested in a full service bank, not a bank from the last century.
4760  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Make youself heard now or never - NYC Bitlicense comment period extended on: August 22, 2014, 01:27:45 PM
I think I agree with everyone in this thread. I hope you all tell NYC, they are the ones that need to hear you. If we could turn them away from regulating the golden goose to death, it might set a tone for regulations elsewhere. I like Franky1's arguments about driving business out of New York. I think it has a lot of merit and is something regulators would try to avoid.
Once we get enough regulation for businesses to adopt bitcoin and it's strength grows we can start a campaign to peal back more of the rules we know will work against our economic freedom. This is a fight we can win, unless we switch to fighting each other rather than regulation.
