482  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: $300 every month for a return in 2019 on: January 31, 2018, 05:17:59 PM
awful plan tbh, if i had to make a new portfolio right now it would look like this:

30% eth
30% ven
10% wpr(eth until ico)
10% xrb
10% icx
10% nebl/eng/waves/strat(one of those)

also not a fan of buying each month, buy when it dips, so right now. unless you dont have 5400$ atm but it will still hurt you overall.

Nice!  My slightly edited version...

30% eth (w/ 10% wpr eth until ico)
20% ven
10% elf
10% xrb
20% icx
10% nebl/eng/strat(one of those)
483  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I'm new to crypto where to start? on: January 31, 2018, 04:50:09 PM
you should first start analyzing for a certain period of time before you make your own investment, then combine it with your own knowledge and knowledge from your friends and then invest

While I agree with this...I think the market is at the end of it's slump and about to rebound.  At the minimum, I believe buy BTC now and hold/hodl.  Most recent forecasts I've seen say it is about to enter the next massive spike.

No guarantees but buying BTC around $9,800 is an opportunity we shouldn't let go (if possible) IMHO.  As a matter of fact, I just bought this morning. Cheesy

Great advise! Thanks for taking the time and write me a brief summary.  Especially for the security management you proposed how to protect my assets from hackers.

You're welcome.

In the future, I hope you pay it forward, and help the next batch of newbies. Smiley
485  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Advise on "Where to Start" for newbies on: January 31, 2018, 04:11:40 PM
I answered a question today about "where to start" and thought maybe this will benefit more people if I put this on it's own thread.  Others are welcome to add/post their thoughts.

===========================

You are in one of the best place to learn BUT note that as much as there are so much good info here....there is so much "noise" or bad info as well that finding the real "golden nuggets of info" becomes difficult.

The basics.
Do not invest more than you can afford to lose.  Not really but a good one anyway.
The higher the risk, the greater the reward.  Very true in crypto but learn to minimize your risks by going with stable/known coins & tokens first.  Take more risks once you have enough knowledge.
DYOR= do your own research.  Do not rely on anyone's advise at face value.  Take it as a guide then research.
FUD= fear, uncertainty and doubt. This usually creates massive sell off, market crash/dip which most "seasoned" traders see as opportunities.  Take advantage of it and not be a victim.
ATH = all time high.  Highest price the coin/token reached.  Worst time to buy
FOMO= fear of missing out.  Usually jumping in and investing w/o research...just because so and so mentioned it is the next x1000 coin or because market is buying it like a feeding frenzy by piranhas.  This usually ends up in buying at ATH and followed by a dip/loss.  DYOR.
Buy low, sell high.  The golden mantra...when in doubt, default to this.

There are lots of good info at youtube.  Look for crypto videos and usually, the ones with most followers/views are good indications of good source for advise.

Coindesk, Reddit and Github are good sources of info as well.

Blockfolio is a good cellphone app to track you coins.

BTW, stay safe!  There are many ways to lose money, the fastest is by getting hacked.  Use strong passwords, use 2FA (two factor authentication) AND secure your wallet/exchange keys as well as 2FA keys.  Save them on paper (printed) AND on a thumb drive you can store safely.  NEVER on your computer where it can be accessed easily if you get hacked.  Next to losing it, nothing worse than knowing you have money but you cannot access.

Added input from other posters...
i would say another important thing, DO NOT OVER-TRADE, i lost so much changing coins while if i had hold for a couple of months i would have got the same gains or more, get a decent coin, set up the targets and wait!

besides over trade, the first rule of trading is Don't Be Greedy
make a little profit with consistency is better than make a huge profit in one day after that you lose your money in the next days

Good luck!

What a loaded question.

If I am new (or my mom asks me where to invest), my suggested portfolio (today) will be comprised of;
BTC,
ETH,
NEO,
ICX,
VEN,
XMR,
ARK,
KNC,
ELF,
QTUM,
WTC

If you can only afford a few coins, go from top to bottom of that list.  Remember, this is a suggestion...use it as a go by or a starting point and DYOR.

487  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Icon ICX mainnet launch successful! on: January 31, 2018, 03:18:38 PM
its down 21 now. This news pumped the price back in 28.

With all the FUD, I am not even paying attention to the unit costs now.  Concentrating more on increasing my coin counts.  Too many opportunities, I am like a kid in a candy store...can't decide which ones to buy with my little money. Cheesy
488  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Bittrex remove many coins ???'' on: January 31, 2018, 02:51:33 PM
Bitcoin i recall use to have safex as a coin.  Then it no longer has it anymore.  Does anyone know what happens if you bought safex on bittrex and kept it on bittrex... and then later bittrex removes safex?  What happens to your coins then?

Normally, exchanges make announcements about coins/tokens they plan on delisting.  Owners have weeks if not months to sell, withdraw or transfer their coin/token.  After delisting, you can still withdraw for another few weeks/months.

Of course the practice varies per exchange but they don't do it instantly.

I don't know what happens after the grace period, you will have to check with the exchange help line at that point.
489  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: How to make money from staking? on: January 31, 2018, 02:21:11 PM
Sounds well, but return is quite low only 5% ?

Not really, as far as I know, that's the same return rate of NEO or PIVX. The one that offers most return from staking is DASH, but you must own 1000 DASH and at current price you'd have to invest like 300000$ !!! I'd be glad to know if there're other with higher staking returns, of course  Smiley

My ARK returns about 12.68% on average.  Note that return varies and depends on your chosen delegate.

Thing I love about NEO and ARK is that you do not need to run your computer to stake.  Just put in your wallet (in ARK's case vote) and you are done.  It earns passive income w/o you doing anything after.  No power consumption either or a computer that is vulnerable to cyber attack while running 24/7.
490  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Rate my portfolio please on: January 31, 2018, 02:18:08 PM
Hey everybody!  Smiley
After my previous mistakes, when i invested in crypto in summer 2017, i made a new portfolio.
Please rate it, i appreciate any opinion or honest critics.

Here it is:
ETH - 2 @ 0.107
XLM - 4000 @ .5230
NEO - 14.4 @ 0.01392
LTC - 12.8 @ 0.01614
WAVES - 280 @ .7709
PIVX - 280 @ .7743
ETC - 80 @ .2727
IOTA - will be added today @Binance
EOS - will be added today @Binance
XEM -  will be added today @Binance

Also, i plan to buy in QTUM, XMR, LSK.
This is a long term investment, up to 3-5 years. What do you say?

Bold are what I have in my portfolio...we are very different that giving you more of my thought might not make sense to you. Good luck!
491  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Which Cryptocurrency Should You Still Have In 2019 on: January 30, 2018, 09:24:09 PM
ETH, NEO, ICX, VEN, XMR
492  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: 2 Ethereum or 15 NEO for long term on: January 30, 2018, 09:20:36 PM
Between the two, put it on NEO

BUT, if you are open to other options... put it on ICX Wink
493  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Attention Tether owners on: January 30, 2018, 08:55:59 PM
If there are so many problems in the tether, let 's relax, without the bargains. Only $ 2.220.579.609 will be deleted from the market.

I thin the REDs are actually due to BITFINEX, not USDT.

Bitfinex members are probably doing some panic selling and it is driving the value price down.

495  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ICON ICX at what price will you sell? on: January 30, 2018, 06:50:21 PM
ICX is taking a dip... another buy opportunity?

$8.09 is still cheap (good entry point) considering the coin potential, but hard for me to buy now since my average purchase before Christmas was less than $2.00  Grin
496  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: How to make money from staking? on: January 30, 2018, 06:26:42 PM
It still doesn't makes any sense economically  the renting part of mining facilities with their coins

If it was profitable  to mine this way they won't need use to use our token to do that... They can do it themselves !

So that's a big joke, if there wasn't this mining part for this coins I will say ok for the staking part (it's like an aidrop for holders)

It is like saying,
why people deposit in banks and why not issue loans directly.
Or why the banks issue loans and not do the development themselves.
Or why rent and not just buy your own house.
Or why rent out a house and not just sell.

...there is reason for everything (and yes, some may not be the best option).

I assure you, they are mining but at the same time, securing guaranteed return from those who rent.  It reduces their risk.
497  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Could eth de-crown BTC in 2018? on: January 30, 2018, 06:01:44 PM
Most are concentrated on BTC and ETH, meanwhile a dark horse is coming fast from behind unnoticed. Wink

I don't know which, so your guess is as good as mine (maybe).  Grin

BREAKING: Coincheck says it will compensate all losses to its NEM holders at a rate of 88.549 JPY ($0.81) per each coin. Says it is using its own capital to reimburse clients. Exact date of reimbursement not yet decided.

500  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: HODL or SELL during dip??? on: January 30, 2018, 03:51:04 PM
Just t clarify....
- This is not a question for me, rather a tutorial for others.
- The scenario described are for the coins you are already holding-not to infuse new "capital".  My fault for not making that clear, I thought it is understood.  I agree and do BUY the dips if I have extra capital.
