481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If confirmation takes 10 minutes, how will I buy coffee at Starbucks? on: December 06, 2013, 10:41:23 PM
For small purchases, you don't really have to wait for a confirmation.  You just need to make sure the transaction appears on the network.  If there are any losses, they can be written off as a cost of doing business or treated as theft.  The chances of double-spending for a cup of coffee are less than the chance of someone walking out on a restaurant bill.

This is correct, and who knows if this isn't workable, maybe bitcoins will not be for buying coffee.

watching alt coins and the work developers are putting into faster confirmations, it truly makes sense that bitcoin was developed as more of a security or commodity than a currency, I wont promote any specific coin on this thread, but  look at the possibility's out there, satoshi (or whoever) could not have built this coin without pondering where it actually would end up, everything I see tells me that it is just the foundation of a crypto financial system, he knew others would follow and bring innovation with them, with this in mind, if your trying to replace fiat and your on your way into a ballpark, do you want to stop and wait for a transaction to be confirmed before the guy scalping tickets releases them to you?-no- many things we buy in -  . . . - are on the go, system flaws and hackers tell me that I need a debit like system if I am going to use crypto currency, Starbucks may not mind protecting itself against a double spend multi wallet criminal, but the guy with 10 minutes in his busy life on craigslist is not really going to want to adopt the policy of the corporations of the world just cause their system works for them, find the altcoin that is most secure, fast, and is close to the fiat or currency we have used for century's and lets move on with this decentralized currency idea that has somehow attached itself to BTC.

P.S. Buy more pizza with BTC

Preorder, or realize that BTC is going to become a commodity and not a currency with all the other options that transfer faster, buy into those that transfer faster with your BTC and stop worrying about yo.
i cant buy nothing with an oz of gold, yet i can trade it off for USD and nobody refuses that  Wink

There are 206 states listed with the United nations http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sovereign_states, in my opinion they all do something a little different than the next, a specific coin for each respective country does not seem to be unreasonable, yet if all the alts are coming from one source than I have to ask the same question as you.

Ya know, they might have 1000 emails and possibly that many problems, even if you do not hear about them, I saw some problems get resolved lately here http://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,1117.0.html and here http://bitsharestalk.org/index.php/topic,1116.html , maybe go through the same steps as these guys??

I am with you on that, if it was myself with 20,000.00 bitcoins I am pretty sure I would disconnect and only see it getting growing in a positive light.

Hello,

I'm joining the forum to engage in conversation (where appropriate) about the economic nature of Bitcoin. I understand it's a complicated topic and I'm open to being wrong, but only after I'm sure that we're really seeing eye to eye on the arguments.

I love BTC from the political and technological standpoint. I'm basically with Peter Schiff on the economics, though I can see where his recent video leaves some holes open for counter arguments, and I think I've worked out some counter-counter arguments. Also, I'm open to the possibility of somebody finding a way to save BTC from the economic pitfalls, but it would require some work. Hopefully people like me can make the case for the problem, to encourage the fixes.

I've occasionally been blogging about it:

http://ill-logic-politik.blogspot.com/search/label/bitcoin

Note: they're long-winded, and blogspot lists them in reverse order. I'm working on being more concise.

Cheers!

Bitcoin has created many, many, millionaire's, why would they not set aside a couple hundred grand to fix the economic pitfalls? or create them possibly?  Undecided in my short time watching BTC I am pretty sure that those holding it are protecting it, you should write about that.
Cheers  Smiley

It depends on the quality of the answer. I've been paying a lot of bounties these days Smiley I'm considering launching an altcoin after seeing the success of my last venture (protoshares is at 24 million market cap in just a month). I want to test a bunch of ideas and new technology that's materialized over the past 4 years. It really is refreshing to see how fast this ecosystem has grown since the early days.

Protoshares is quite a concept, just throw those coins you have at it and find your beach in a couple months, Xmas is going to bring a storm to cryptocurrency in my opinion, If you do not find something I will throw you an idea I like alot  Smiley might be to much work for any one person though.

Is there going to be a bounty for the best answer Charles?

So how far out are you? I will watch this closely to see if it makes sense to the "non techy" to see if you will be able to gain a following and use for the coin, i figure if it makes sense to me then it would do well in the public, most tech savvy guys appear to think there are enough coins floating around and seem to think that they are adequate for the masses, but I will say that it takes an investment and some tech awareness to get anywhere with anything out there now, mining anything right now is plain stupid if you don't have a long term plan or some cash to put into it cause its dependent on others to operate a pool honestly for your sake, if a lower class guy can flip on his computer and get full share for his investment i think you could succeed

Beyond the mining though, there will be alot of support involved, why do you want to do this? Is it worth it to you? is there a purpous for the coin, a network or use?
492  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Where is the Centralized cryptocoin? on: December 01, 2013, 08:11:57 AM
with regulations coming to the scene, where is the coin that can be tracked and regulated for tax concern's?

Bitcoin after Gavin & Co. adds CoinValidation.
Hopefully we can stop that.

Not looking for something built on bitcoin or any other coin, but something else, not sure...

I think he is trying to get us to "find" Microcash LOL...

RS cultist are amusing to say the least.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=78825.0 after all that, who is going to touch it? RS? i once found a thread with abbreviations and such, now i guess i better put a flag on it to find it quickly so that I don't appear burned by someone who knows his $--- here and I can make a informed reply, you guys with history make it difficult for the newcomers, iz ok though-sleep when i am dead I guess
493  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [PLANNED] ShardCoin on: December 01, 2013, 06:48:55 AM
No disrespect, but it you dont even know c++, then you almost have no chance

Thanks for the criticism, but who ever said c++ is the only language out there? What if I wished to create a totally new system in Java? Anyway I updated the title of the thread in light of your criticism. I'm also not necessarily seeking a financial gain in this (though I wouldn't reject it if it came my way).

Why not create a new language?? its possible.

in laymens terms, a small miner does not have to mine the whole block?

I wouldn't word it that way. A block isn't really mined, it's created by someone that found a valid nonce(working parameter to hashing) by bruteforce. If their hash they found is a "really good match" they can create a block, relay transactions, and collect fees. If their hash is not that goo a match (fails the high standard but passes the low standard) they can get coins. They just don't get the chance to create a block and collect fees of transactions put into that block.

This is kind of a cool idea and I hope you start working towards it being developed, looking around here in the forum and others I find alot of people sitting on alot of coins (good for them) but coming in new to it someone might find it really difficult to get into the game cause of block difficulty's and investment cost's (I might really love to own a butterfly labs machine, but the cost...) so if possible that someone could mine at a fair advantage without being involved in a pool would be a great way to get the masses plugged in where they can earn their fair share and not fork any over to a pool owner, so in a way this style of alt coin would very much be the common working class's coin, they can earn it without somebody skimming from their efforts, i think you would get alot of people with no tech knowledge involved and so I hope you could setup with that in mind, the support you will have to give will be tremendous.

Now then Now then, please explain to me how one finds a really good match? or point me in a good direction to read about it where i could better understand what your talking about, its all math for the nodes is it not, there should never be a good match, it is or is not right?

Now I know this can be a touchy subject, but it might be a good thing for the main stream population to have something that has a low transaction rate, encrypted wallet that removes banks from the picture, and a digital alternative to a fiat controlled by pocket lining politicians, everyone worry's about the bottom line right?

Let the community regulate the inflation, cost's associated with use, and distribution.
The developer puts in initial parameters, they are constant and usually don't change. You're asking for a coin that can be tracked?

Sure, The U.S. has been able to give an approximate number of where the dollar is worldwide for quite some time now, but that is not what I am saying, tracked to a degree so that its trail coming into your account could be verified to have come from legal means, during an audit from the IRS in the U.S. you might like to show your not operating a Silk Road and you obtained your House through honest work, back tracking the bitcoin could be a nightmare, most people I know might slide on a tax here and there, but in general do not want to hide multiple thousand's from the IRS, or be under an investigation because they cannot prove their wealth was acquired legally.
498  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Where is the Centralized cryptocoin? on: November 30, 2013, 07:18:48 AM
USD, Euro, et al.

Both are easily printed without using cryptography, I do not mean a government backed coin, but one generated by solving encrypted algorithm's, like all these other alt coins, but backed by a source that has the investment to back it.
499  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What coins to invest in. on: November 30, 2013, 07:04:05 AM
awesome thanks guys:) and how would i go about integrating coins in to websites i know a bit of php and can get my way around mysql any advice?

Place a bounty up for the work you need done, or any help you might need, talent does not really give out industry secrets for free, unless they are familiar with you or just feeling generous.
Also-use the search bar, many people want their coins to be used, there may be an easy option listed here somewhere.

P.S. Be careful
