On the Antminers they power several BM1397s in series so they don't have to deal with the low voltages as much. I'm not so sure this is the best way to go for a relatively low chip count miner. You run into problems with the exposed copper top of the BM1397 then being at different voltages (and a heatsink shorting them out). It also makes it more difficult to change the core voltage of individual chips.
It was either FriedCat with his ASIC Tube miner or Bitfury that 1st used the string topology. The obvious reason is that it eliminated the need for multiple Vcore regulators giving higher efficiency but that came at the price of needing more level shifters and not being able to fine-tune the voltage for each chip in a string - the chip needing the highest Vcore is what sets the voltage for the entire string.

So ja, for just a few chips, either run them all in parallel from 1 regulator or use multiple regulators with 1 per pair of chips as done in Bitmains' S1-S4 miners.

Unless your aim is you want people to stare at your face, it's a waste of time - just make it one single image saying why it's such an abhorrently bad idea.
Well, getting views is the whole point of youtube.
If the OP can show a couple terminal windows showing rolling counts of work done I'll give them that as viable content.

Sounds about as exciting as watching paint dry but hey - it's Youtube... Wink
483  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: why cgminer increases "nonce2" and "ntime" every 5 seconds ? on: November 25, 2022, 02:42:32 AM
Fuzzy, the S17 chip has 672 cores. Interestingly, the chip actually has four blocks of 168 cores each built in series within the die.
Interesting - I'd swear I've come across infor with it being over 8k of them. The Bitfury's in the Apollo has 4k of them per Bitfury's spec and the A1 (2014) had 1024 cores. Most odd.

Regarding that level shifter, octopart shows that 10's of thousands are available though not from the usual suspects  Wink

Foundry is buying a dead mining business called Compute North which has 17mw worth of hashrate
 Huh  Huh  Huh
They *do* know that Compute North's demise/trouble is that the cost of power in the areas where their mining farms are located has skyrocketed right? Buying & throwing more money at them just to keep running is insane...

Hi everyone, so I read your replies and although it may not have been what I hoped for, thanks for the replies. However, I know this forum is about bitcoin but is there any way I could make this work with any other cryptocurrency?
I.E. Ethereum and/or Bitcoin Cash
For that you need to ask in the Altcoin Discussion areas of the Forum. This area is for BTC only.

It’s kinda crazy to think about; the fastest CPUs out there wouldn’t even be able to increment the nonce as fast as an ASIC, much less do any actual hashing
Huge difference between any CPU/GPU and a mining ASIC -- the number of cores in them. A top-end CPU might have what, 48 cores in it?

The s17 mining ASIC has 8192 cores in the 1 chip and each core handles 1 part of the range being ran through so with each clock cycle a block of up to 8192 values are processed at 1 time. Add in the fact that most large miners will have 100-200 ASICs in them and that's how they achieve such incredible performance.

It should be noted that it is rare for all of the cores to be usable and often a chip will have many dead ones. That is part of the difference between the fastest (and most expensive) miners and their slightly slower and cheaper brethren - the fastest/most expensive are using chips that are binned (selected) as most functional cores and those make up a rather small % of usable dies from each wafer. The lower number of perfect/near-perfect ones allows them to be priced at a premium.

For scam coins that for some unknown reason get discussed in this thread, run far away from them, the blood is there for a reason.
Most definitely ja to that! It's why I said BTC vs using the more general 'crypto'. If one wants to day-trade and you're vigilant in doing it then alts may or may not work for you but for long-term gain -- stick to BTC!
491  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2022 Diff thread. on: November 22, 2022, 02:51:44 AM
And as Baron Rothschild, a veritable banker and “one-percenter,” famously recommended, "buy when there's blood in the streets."
That was true back in his day regarding stocks and real estate, now it's true for BTC as well.
492  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Which pool participates in giving away miner's data? on: November 22, 2022, 12:02:55 AM
Um, actually every block says who mined it. Case in point this one. Now *where* the actual miner that got it - the physical hardware - is located, thass another story. That said, AFAIK that finder info is optional so yes for some blocks the finder will be 'unknown'.

494  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Cloud mining for bitcoin on: November 19, 2022, 07:37:37 PM
Is cloud mining safe?
If you had bothered to read any of the previous posts you would know that the answer is a resounding NO!
The vast majority if not all of them are SCAMS.
495  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Where to get large amount of tBTC? on: November 17, 2022, 08:36:17 PM
ive already did what i needed to do, and have returned the tbtc
Either you are a big liar or you think we are all here imbeciles and morons Roll Eyes
Balance is still the same 0.01740317 tBTC, so nothing was ever ''returned'' or sent from your public address:
Quote
Total received   ‎0.01740317 tBTC
Total sent         ‎0.00000000 tBTC
Balance            ‎0.01740317
https://mempool.space/testnet/address/tb1qjvntwgt3snue53m0qg4my8elyk4lm7zz6zyehk
im using a diff address now, ill send the address later when i get on my pc
So, 13 days later and guess what? That tbtc is still sitting untouched in their wallet. So much for the OP's claims of honesty...  Roll Eyes

Do not use an exchange address. Some exchanges do not allow newly generated coins as deposits
Then I would use a different exchange. For one, since 2014 Blockchain.com has never had an issue with any of my mining rewards deposits. Considering that some exchanges don't like 'tainted' BTC I find it rather puzzling that they would take issue with sparkly brand new minted ones...

499  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Planning to mining bitcoin and gambling at the same time. on: November 15, 2022, 06:15:37 PM
Have been wanting to mining bitcoin for long time but im not sure where to mining plus i wanna gambling and set bet too. Any suggest? Lips sealed
For a start, read this
In short to mine BTC you MUST use ASIC-based miners. No PC is capable of it. PERIOD.
As for Gambling, use the Forum's Gambling area.

Ok, I understand, just one more thing, there is a version of ESP32 with 16MB Flash and 8MB PSRAM, you can't avoid using the microUSD but at least it would cover the memory issue.
Frankly, using the Pi Zero or Pico is your best bet. Cgminer itself only takes a few hundred MB when running so it seems a very bad choice to use an emulator/whatnot to be able to run in on a non-native platform that would require far more memory.

Oh, and please notice that one does not have to constantly quote entire msg chains...
