I second what is said above: Don't use Raspberry Pi. My Pi 4 was overheating constantly when running a node and I had to get active cooling on it.
Out of curiousity, what where you running on the Raspberry and how much RAM did it have? I run 2 Raspberry Pi 4b 8GB RAM and I never had overheating issues. I use this case on both of them and the temperature never exceeds 58-60 celcius. It has passive cooling and there is no noise at all.

Why is this particular transaction considered spam? I see a multi-sig paying another multi-sig and a miner. Sure, the dust output is weird, but how's that harmful?
Harmful? I don't think Bitcoin is harmed technically from these transactions. Bitcoin works as expected, increasing the fees. It was intentionally built to do this. The problem is that blocks like this: https://mempool.space/block/00000000000000000002f83ab72267be24e81ec374b726f94d2ae784fcd9c442 are full of transactions where the output is a 546 sats UTXO. Essentially the recepient won't be able to do anything with a 546 sats UTXO. At the same time, 546 sats is the minimum UTXO size allowed in Bitcoin, so it looks like people fill blocks with dust outputs. P.S I didn't check the past of these transactions to see where the money come from, but it is suspicious, in my opinion. Question for everyone more technically savvy than me: Could those be direct payments to the miners for some reason? Because if you think about it, you will see that these transactions pay for example 50,000 sats on fees (to the miners) and 546 sats to an address.

May God bless his soul.
May God bless his family.
May God bless both icopress and GazetaBitcoin for this contest.
I don't know if God exists, but right now, I hope he does and I hope he hears our prayers.
I would like to abstain from the contest, but please leave this message here, so my prayer can be seen.

Do we have any statistics about Ordinal profitability? I mean, the medium priority fee right now is 154 sat/vb, and an Ordinal transaction is way above the median size. If it takes 10 bucks to have a median sized transaction confirmed, then how much does one pay to create an Ordinal? A thousand? And another thousand to sell it? How's this profitable?
The only thing we know for sure is that someone attacks Bitcoin with transactions like this: https://mempool.space/tx/51818e244c6dd93ece167ab78fe934068e229cdccd54d294e88226d2bb9f800dThere is a huge amount of dust transactions. So, this is strong evidence that some people spam the network and one of the possibilities is that they use money earned from selling ordinals. Of course I don't have the time to try to prove it, but don't you thinks that's a possibility? To be honest, I am not against Ordinals, I just want normal transaction fees for users like me to be able to use Bitcoin for regular payments.
I seriously doubt this can happen... If I had a guess, I would say that high fees are here to stay...

Thanks, she loves it! She's been ill at home for the past few days.
I hope the little foxpup will make her feel better. You 've been both very unlucky with illnesses lately...

I am honoured to create something beautiful for your lovely daughter. I present to you Miss MehMeh, a small, pinky puppy who loves Bitcoin. (If you don't like it, I will re-create it) Yay! I am so glad I've been there! Needless to mention, Crete is full of many other wonderful places (which I visited too or, at least, partially), such as Spinalonga, Knossos Palace, Mount Ida (the place where Zeus grew up), all the historic relics of Minoan civilization... And these are just a few of Crete's beauties!
Greece is beautiful! I hope BlackHatCoiner agrees! Let us know in case you need anything specific. I 've never been to Spinaloga though! Good catch! OMG you did an amazing job here hihi! Thank you so much! I have a few suggestions for making a few changes but I'll tell you in PM, to not derail this topic even more than having already SEVENTY-SEVEN pages of derailment =))) Absolutely!

Hold my merit source and 1700 unspent sMerits. Greeks to the top of the dashboard, please. I may now officially salute you to the club BlackHatCoiner! Greeks will protect the queen from every enemy and guarantee the integrity of the gang.

Raspberry pi is nice option. If you go for pi zero you may want to read about SeedSigner too. Using it as signing device is much more convenient than an offline computer imho.
Yeah this is exactly why I thought of using RPi Zero. The only problem is that I can't find any RPi Zero without WiFi (the non-W version). At least where I live, it's difficult to find.

Actually, cycling merits is also a must, I'm afraid. And only in ginormous packages! Which rules to apply and wear your avatar. The rules are you have to cycle an obscene amount of merit between yourself and other members of the merit/trust gang that exists in the conspiracy theory that cryptohunter's all worked up about, so I'm afraid you don't quite qualify at this stage. Sorry. I am ready to cycle merit with you. I am already a "Hero Member", lacking activity. And at this pace, I will become legendary before becoming hero Loyce & Leo & BlackHatCoiner are the users to whom I have given the most merit. In fact, when I talked to our queen, I specifically mentioned how good the members of the club are. This is why she allowed me to become an intern and wear this heavy avatar. Ohhh, in this case you are right! If you'll ever go there, to his birth place, make sure you'll visit Balos & Elafonissi lagoons, which look stunning -- just like Caribbean lagoons. And they also have pink sand. And visit also Vai & Preveli beaches. Both have palm tree forests surrounding them and, as a plus, at Preveli there is also a small river going into the sea, and populated with geese and ducks <3 The view is simply astonishing...
I have been to all of these places more than once haha. But yeah you have spotted them accurately! Thank you buddy! Much appreciated! In the past i used to ask fillippone for help, as he was only a wannabee back then. But now he is fully felched fledged lieutenant so I can do this anymore... This is why I kindly asked for help from our friendly intern And by the way, that shirt suits you so well Would you tailor some for as well? I'll pay you with precious gems! We are cycling merit here, remember?! I will do it for free for you GazetaBitcoin, my precious friend. Btw, I am still waiting for instructions to help you! How may I assist you? Do you like any of these?

In this tutorial we will need another computer to install BISQ. Then we will connect BISQ to our Bitcoin Node through TOR. Doing that, BISQ will communicate with the Bitcoin network exclusively through our node. Exposing Bitcoin Core as a TOR hidden serviceWe have already set up our bitcoin.conf to run behind TOR in our tutorial#1. Most of the times, the directive proxy=127.0.0.1:9050 is sufficient. Now let's go to /etc/tor/torrc file and let's edit it. For me some of the following lines where already there but I had to uncomment them: ControlPort 9051 CookieAuthentication 1 CookieAuthFileGroupReadable 1 DataDirectoryGroupReadable 1 HiddenServiceDir /var/lib/tor/bitcoin-service/ HiddenServicePort 8333 127.0.0.1:8333
Then, just restart the service with: sudo systemctl restart tor Now, it's time to read our .onion address: cat /var/lib/tor/bitcoin-service/hostname The address will be there for us. Finally, we need to stop Bitcoin Core and add the ip in the configuration file. bitcoin-cli --datadir=/media/apogio/BTC/bitcoincore stop nano /media/apogio/BTC/bitcoincore/bitcoin.conf Add the following directive: externalip=<the onion address> Installing BISQSince I am not a professional documentation writer, I certainly can't write the installation guide any better than the guys from BISQ. Therefore, depending on your OS, follow the equivalent guide from this page: https://bisq.wiki/Downloading_and_installingNote: make sure to validate every signature and binary you download. Connecting BISQ to our nodeLuckily, this is very simple and you can just follow my screenshots. Let's head to Settings - Network Info: There, simply tick the "Use Tor for Bitcoin network" and "Use custom Bitcoin nodes". Then, add the address and press Enter. If done properly, you should see that Bisq connect to Bitcoin network with 1 peer only. This peer, as you 've already guessed is your own node.

Is this where the cool kids hang out these days? Gimme a bike. Apologies to Foxpup for sending her only 6 sMerits four years now. For what's worth, I have sent 959 to o_e_l_e_o and 218 to Loyce. That's a lot of cycling there. Our queen doesn't need merits! We are here to protect her. Welcome to the club fellow fox. I am a new entry here (kinda like an intern - but for foxes). I am trying to prove myself like a good puppy. PS. Cycling merit is a bonus here, and also humour and shenanigans are a must. Am I right guys? Gazeta my friend, am I correct?

Or can I simply disconnect my SDD (where the blockchain data is stored) from my node for a few hours and download the blockchain data directly to my other laptop? Will it cause problems if my node is offline for several hours or does it just need some time to synch once it is online again?
Bitcoin nodes can be shut down and then they will continue exactly from where they stopped. But of course they need to be terminated gracefully! Why do you need to transfer the SSD from one computer to the other? You want one computer for the node and one computer for the "analysis"?

How so? We have a huge sense of hospitality in Greece. I am not from Creta, but my father was born and raised there, so I kinda know the drill. Ooookay, other than that, apogio, since you are our newest intern, are you so kind to give me a hand of help here? I'm carrying something very heavy...
Sure, let me wear my personalised t-shirt with the "apogio" stamp on it. I am ready, hit me! What do you need? How heavy is it? I am ready to prove myself here!

On the contrary - I think it is mandatory. A software level airgap will never be completely secure, since you are one misclick or one accidental setting change away from re-enabling some form of connectivity and breaking your airgap. A hardware level airgap (i.e. connectivity hardware removed) will always be a safer option.
The only "problem" with airgapping is that it must be permanent as you said. Therefore, it must be dedicated to always being offline, both hardware and software-wise. And the problem with this is that one must buy this device only to use it offline which renders it limited to a small amount of tasks. I have made the decision to buy a Raspberry Pi Zero which has no WiFi support, nor ethernet port and develop a device where I will generate passhprases and wallets (using electrum probably).

Thanks again for your flawless timing and lightning fast on-chain confirmation!
Hi Loyce, are you doing any better?
|
|
|
If you want to airgap a device which has previously been connected to the internet, then you need to format it and install a clean Linux OS.
Is there any type of malware that infects hardware? From a very short research I have made in the past, I know there are some trojan viruses that damage circuits. Having said that, I would also remove Bluetooth and network card from the device. Or do you think this is an overkill?

Yes, but don’t forget that Bitcoin wasxtrading
What does that mean mate? You mean it was trading low? This is true obviously.

Prediction 2 is interesting but it is not a mandatory condition for Prediction 1 to become true. From $69,000 (2021 all time high) to $80,000 (a predictive new all time high), it is about 16% increase, not too much with Bitcoin.
Yes but this obviously means that bitcoin must first reach $69k which is an increase of 64% from the current level. Don't forget that bitcoin is up 145% since January 1st, so ... Don't get me wrong I don't care about the price at all because I use bitcoin as bitcoin. Well, now that fees are that high I struggle a bit, but you get the point. Anyway bitcoin is only going up because it is valuable. We just have to be patient.

Is there a brain wallet with lightning network support? https://www.bitaddress.org/ seems has NO lightning network support. I want to generate bitcoin address and private key with lightning network support. Exchange withdraw fees are too high for ordinary address. Thank you very much! I think you have misunderstood how LN (lightning) works. Let's start from what a brainwallet is. A brainwallet is an unsafe way to generate a private key, by hashing a phrase that you generate on your brain. So for example, the phrase franklin2058 will generate the following: Private key (hex): 1c97d6a461f857e2cd864d39426def7e4724d6c77e630696b589a2f139bf4b26 Private key (WIF): KxBHu7A2YggFc4kpq5aW52d8uHNyzvWPG6ADRtAR2855P2ruxdYQ Addresses: 1QJcNn9PAPCLNeJnESou9h6QVNPnmGSKJD / 3GfLUQJTgNY7gqm1EPBX2MQdQ9SXACkbse / bc1ql70harvmavj8ru293ckcy3hgaevdteawc9gcdq Essentially you will only need to remember the phrase franklin2058 and you will be able to recover the wallet. I will not explain how insecure these wallets are in this post, since it is irrelevant, but I definetely encourage you not to use them.
Now, LN is a layer that sits on top of Bitcoin's blockchain. It works by creating channels between nodes and then those nodes can exchange sats without paying insane fees. Once the channels are closed, then an on-chain transaction happens on the blockchain that settles the amounts to the addresses. Having said that, there are mainly 2 implementations of LN nodes: 1. LND 2. CLN Essentially, you generate an on-chain deposit address. This address will be in the bech32 format and can be used to send Bitcoin funds to your LN wallet. From this address you will be able to fund the channels. These 2 implementations don't support brainwallets! So, the funding address is properly generated, collecting entropy from various sources. The address is part of a Hierarchical Deterministic wallet. If what you want is a good LN wallet, then I suggest you totally forget brainwallets. Brain is not suitable for secure implementations! Just follow the proper way that everyone uses and you will be just fine. Finally, some more wallet suggestions: 1. If you run your own LN node: - For PC: Ride the Lightning, SPARK, LNBits
- For Mobile: Zeus
2. If you DON'T run your own LN node: - For PC: *I haven't used any so I can't suggest*
- For Mobile: Wallet of Satoshi (custodial), Muun (semi-custodial), Phoenix (non-custodial)
