About the rally itself: I kinda feel that this was orchestrated by a single entity, probably in order to induce a short squeeze. I doubt very much that this was "organic" buying by people who suddenly all decided to buy in unison. Or maybe I'm wrong and it was caused by a bunch of people buying because of the paypal news, but I doubt it...

The rally that started May 20 too consisted of a few episodes of intense buying, 1-2 hour long, that drove the price up  by ~50$ each time; separated by "organic-looking" periods where the price just wandered about, often with a downward trend.

Could this rally be the  first of another (mini-)bubble like that?

As i said many times in the past (since 2011 bubble), we will have at least 5 bubbles during the price discovery process. So far we had only 3 bubbles, so we got a few more bubbles. During this process, the bitcoin network adoption/development will grow tens folds.

Notice all the idiotic bears in this forum are all registered after the last bubble? 2013 earliest?

I'm surprised that the hash rate on EMC hasn't dropped at all.

You don't expect to have their farm in their offices and registered under the same company name right? But I hope someone will tip FTC about EMC!

IIRC Josh ran EMC well before he ever got involved with BFL.

he sold it to bfl

EMC is a pool owned by BFL. They had a significant number of people hashing there. Plus likley their own pool which likley was substantial. If it was shut down, then yes that would make a significant dent. 1-5 percent of the network if I had to take a guess (not looked into it yet), they had around 3-4PTh when I last checked. Thats a good sized chunk of network.

EMC was just a disguise to cover their own mining ventures. Not many actual miners on there, they use it to cover their btc funds.

BFL 60GH Single in mineral oil.

Mineral oil will siphon itself though plastics and insulation of wiring so be careful. I had found mine that ran for a few months had oil pulled more than 2 meters through a 3m USB cable. Even uphill. It'll make a mess, increase fire hazard, and make the cables firm (they may snap or insulation will flake off if you bend them).

Remove the oil from boards by first letting it drip, then immerse in mineral turpentine or shellite (other names: light petroleum distillates / white spirits / hexane). If you used mineral turpentine (which has a lingering smell) you can remove this by then immersing it in undiluted methylated spirits and fan drying for several hours / overnight. (And hope during all this that those electrolytic cap cans are 100% sealed).

tl;dr - I would not go down this path again.

I am using technical grade mineral oil.  There is no smell.  After I pulled out the card I just washed it off with soap and water and let it dry.

My hands are as supple as butter today.  Novec is a lot less messy but it is too expensive.

What about submerging in distilled water?  Would that remove heat faster than mineral oil?

LOL do it, I always love jackass movie, but reality ones are the best.

Butterfly Labs - Shut Down by US Government

See the full story:   http://www.coindesk.com/us-government-shuts-embattled-mining-firm-butterfly-labs/

Also Network Hashrate dropping like crazy. Wonder if it's related.

Strato

How are these two possibly related?

Well they were still in the process of making miners right? Delaying shipments?  The mining manufacturers all "test" their miners for a long period, as in weeks, months, mining BTC, before they ship.

Their plug was pulled.

Strato

They actually have their mining company, altho they never admit it. They just shuffle the funds among their books. BFL's customers are nothing but free loans.

494  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2014-09-22 - WIRED - Square Is Making a Register That Takes Bitcoin and ApplePay on: September 23, 2014, 05:59:59 AM
This is big. There are a lot of small town coffee shops and bookstores that use Square on an iPad.

at 2.75% this will never compete with bitcoin. Adapt or die.
495  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin - the most fascinating and important thing of our time? on: September 23, 2014, 05:57:32 AM
I think Bitcoin is certainly nice, but it is the technology itself not Bitcoin that is going to make the difference, already I'm seeing much more interesting ( Sorry Bitcoin devs Tongue ) projects coming out like Open Bazaar and Storj, but admittedly if Bitcoin hadn't come along these projects wouldn't have been possible or at least quite difficult to implement without the knowledge that was already given out freely.

Dont be silly, for a Hero member to say that, i would have slapped your face.

Money is the most important application of the blockchain technology, PERIOD. You dont even know how disrupting this is.

And you're preferring some open marketplace and distributed storage services to MONEY? ARE YOU CRAZY?

I like that setup! If S3s actually looked like they had a shot to ROI, I would put a bunch of them in Corsair 540 cases and place them all around my house for heating this winter, and keep the furnace off.

Yes there are trustable sources.
There is already a thread in this forum but I couldn't find it via google.
I will try more and will post.

Using miners as a space heater is very dangerous to health.
The chemicals releasing through the hot air will negatively affect your health.

source? lol

I cant take retards who cant even quote a reply ...seriously.

If I was in China, I'd probably eat a lot of rice. And then I would move. Far away.

Thats what Chinese has been doing..... for decades....

Dont you see floods of Chinese immigrants (legal and illegal) every DAY?

Yet once they come to Western countries, they kept saying "my country is this, my country is that". One chinafck even said to me once " in China, road is cleaner than this city....." I almost told him to go the fck back chink.

Here is the most typical way for them to come here : visa students ---> fake marriage sponsors-----> whole fcking flop of Chinamen with the same last name come here under "family union"
