I have to say the miners are getting prettier lately. Previous Rockminers were much rougher, industrial looking units.

And a galaxy S2, a very reliable phone, much better than S3.   Smiley

New to mining.  Wanted to put a couple S3's in an enclosure for the office.

Corsair Carbide Air 540 white case  (plenty of ventilation holes in the case)  The black version of this case is available at Micro Center for $120 - $20 MIR = $100.
With 2 ProlimaTech Ultra Sleek Vortex 14 fans with 120mm fan grills and adding 3 ProlimaTech Ultra Sleek Vortex 12 white fans to case, (cheaper alternative is the Scythe Slip Stream SY1212SL12H 2000 rpm 120mm Slim Case Fan) with 3 120mm fan grills.
Thortech Thunderbold Plus 1200w Gold power supply fits in the case and has the 5.25 display
NZXT Sentry 3 fan controller
Scythe ITA Kaze fan with Evercool Twister Fan Speed Controller PCI Slot
Put these feet on the side http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A3ONV4A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and these inside of them http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003IMSIBA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to give room for the power supply fan ventilation.

Anyone else do something like this?

I've also got another set up using a Enermax Fulmo GT case almost ready (with the Netgear 5 port switch in the front) also for the office and I ordered a Corsair Carbide Air 240 black case to see if 2 will fit in the smaller case (I suspect they will but the side door will not be on and the S3's will be upright (no 5.25 bays on the smaller case) but with a EVGA 1300w G2 power supply it's not needed (this smaller MicroATX case looks like it'll fit any power supply, even the Corsair 1500w Titanium power supply), for the home.

I like that setup! If S3s actually looked like they had a shot to ROI, I would put a bunch of them in Corsair 540 cases and place them all around my house for heating this winter, and keep the furnace off.

Are those Fans spinning? Wonder how they like the extra drag from the oil.

Slok: Did you leave the fans on that 60? Can you run it without the heat sinks and let the oil cool the chips directly?

Yes, you know why I am asking this.

I'm sure I could run it without the heat sinks.

The chips run MUCH hotter without the heat sinks.  Within a minute the temps were over 80C.  They never got over 41C with the heat sinks attached. Now the right side stopped working and it only runs at 25GH.

I will let it sit for a few minutes and try again.  Nope.  Only one side works now.

I would recommend using heat sinks in mineral oil.  It is fine to not use heat sinks in Novec but you need them in the oil.

I was just testing the mineral oil with old equipment before I put the 20-28nm in oil.

I am not Slok!

Yes there are trustable sources.
There is already a thread in this forum but I couldn't find it via google.
I will try more and will post.

i would probably leave the heatsinks on but remove the fans! you still need the heatsink to take the heat away quickly from the chips before the oil can slowly remove it from there... I would expect without heatsinks that you have now likely fried that...

If my advice has helped you out, feel free to throw some Satoshi's my way!

Too late!  lol.  I will put the heat sinks back on and see if both chip banks work again.  It was way too hot without the heat sinks.

Nope.  Only runs at 30GH now.  I am glad I tested it before I threw a naked Neptune board in there.

You rock! Thank you for imploding that board in the name of Science.

However that was the most critical thing I have seen this month: The problem with the Monarchs is not the main chips, it's cooling the fucking FETs. The FETs are little and cute and if we want to overload them we need to draw away the heat fast. The best way I have found so far is to haul the heat out from the bottom of the board with a water block. BFL used a big heat sink and fan and that works well at 700gh but will probably implode at 1th.

Oil has more thermal conductivity than air, but not anywhere near as much as water or copper. If it did, those chips would not be able to get hot enough to boil the oil touching them (which also causes cavitation, bye!).

Back to the drawing board, I need to haul heat off a 1cm^2 device as quickly as possible. Water block may still be the best idea, as water will not let the metal under it get over 212 as long as it's not boiled away. Hm....

This is the picture of my miner which is hidden after the drawer set under my desk in office.
That is 160Gh per board, and no electricity expenses and internet expenses...

a man either brave? or looking for a reason to get a new job.....

well played well played

in my humble opinion you should just take a miner and put it inside one of those desktop air filter units

something like this

http://www.amazon.com/Holmes-HEPA-Desktop-Purifier-HAP242-UC/dp/B0000DK35B/ref=lp_3737421_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1411462582&sr=1-1

loud as hell maybe...heck you prob could even leave the filter in....gut another vent in back etc

(now I prob did just get someone fired in the future)

also someone back in 2013 found a way to put a BFL 5 gh jally (he did get one ...or the first and prob roi'd on it) found room in his office DESKTOP CASE
had pics etc....don't have the link

heh

BFL 60GH Single in mineral oil.

Mineral oil will siphon itself though plastics and insulation of wiring so be careful. I had found mine that ran for a few months had oil pulled more than 2 meters through a 3m USB cable. Even uphill. It'll make a mess, increase fire hazard, and make the cables firm (they may snap or insulation will flake off if you bend them).

Remove the oil from boards by first letting it drip, then immerse in mineral turpentine or shellite (other names: light petroleum distillates / white spirits / hexane). If you used mineral turpentine (which has a lingering smell) you can remove this by then immersing it in undiluted methylated spirits and fan drying for several hours / overnight. (And hope during all this that those electrolytic cap cans are 100% sealed).

tl;dr - I would not go down this path again.
