Fraud is a criminal matter, not the product of regulation.
How does something become a crime? A regulation (read law) bans it. Most libertarians would be fine with that.
Thanks for speaking for everyone. fraud (dishonesty) and breach of contract (didn't do what he promised).
I don't recall "dishonesty" being banned. Seems like everywhere I look something is lying to me (Products with big-breasted ladies implying they'll want you if you buy the product is a pretty universal "fraud" perpetuated by legitimate companies). Very few people in favor of deregulation are also in favor of legalizing fraud, and only the really extreme guys are in favor of gutting the civil court system.
How can you "legalize" something in a market with no regulations or laws? Seems to me that I'm not the confused one.

And AIG was part of the REGULATED markets. So if extreme amounts of regulation can't prevent "equity cashouts", what's the point of the regulation? To me it seems the regulation just prevents people like me from even taking the risk. If these chips don't show up I'm out a significant amount of money. Nothing ball breaking, because I knew from the outset that there were risks. However, had this panned out the way it appeared, I might have been staring at quite a return. I'm glad I'm able to take the risk, even if it means I sometimes get burned.
I would not, however, have built a business around Yifu's word. He didn't have enough trust built up with me.
I'm hoping that these kinds of scandals will peter out some as people realize that having complete control of your money comes with responsibilities. Since we don't have big bad government backing every buyer, we have to be MORE cautious who we trust with our money.

This is what unregulated looks like. Sure there are fraudsters. Nothing stops that. Sure there are scams. Nothing stops that either. But at least here you have a CHOICE. You weren't required to trust Yifu. You decided to. I decided to. We all did. We made a mistake. We bet on someone who didn't already iron out all the kinks. Turns out some of those kinks were pretty solid.
Yes, Yifu made promises he couldn't keep. So did BFL. This isn't the first time and won't be the last. But Jesus you all wine so much about being "scammed" when part of the reason many of you are even HERE was because you believed in unregulated markets.
Caveat Emptor, right? Maybe this will teach us to properly vet the investments we choose to pursue.

After equal distribution of the unclaimed miners there will be remainders. I think the most fair way would to be names drawn from a hat. That doesnt favor anyone.
Also because it says i would like up to 15 extra after my paid amount, i intend to be in on the distribution of the unclaimed miners. Just making that clear. hehe
Or we could bid. I'd pay BTC.25 for another one. Arklan; trying to make a little money? Should we tell him what 500 * .075 equals in $$$. ? Well, that .075 does also pay for shipping. For those with 1 or 2 units, Arklan's not making much shipping fedex ground. More than that, he's making out, but for me the total price is still more than 1/2 the going rate, so that's what really matters to me. Let me rephrase. Arklan; trying to make a little EXTRA money?

sorry for the delay the last day, been busy. but everything is caught up and marked down. the first batch of 154 units did go to the wrong address, my old one in utah, but that's my borther's place. he got the box today and has already shipped it fedex overnight to me, so i'll have it tomorrow. i'll pack and mail out those as fast as i can (recruiting the fiance to help) but i don't think i'll be able ot get them back to fedex by their deadline tomorrow evening. so they'll be sent friday. the others haven't even reached friedcat from manufacturing yet as i understand it, so we'll be waiting on that. i believe they expect stock to come in by the 10th and ours should go out after that. regarding unclaimed: for those who have declared interest, whatever remains unclaimed friday morning (about 36 hours from now give or take) will be EQUALLY DISTRIBUTED. say you're marked "up to 10" then you get an even share, up to a total of ten, including your original claim. if you're marked "more if possible" you get an even share until they run out, unless you inform me of a limit you want. if you've paid me ahead for more then you end up getting, you'll get a refund of course. and, to make it clear: if your name isn't in the spreadsheet, you cannot get in on this in any way. so bug off! also, i goofed on the spreadsheet, as someone noticed. we're up to 369 of the original 512 claimed. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjCZrDbAiz_PdE4tbDR3X3owMHNMb1NyekJGWHN4QlE&usp=sharingWhat happens if there aren't enough to go around? How do we determine who gets one? Right right... It might not break down evenly. Uh... Hmm. Random selection? Names out of a hat or run a little script to figure it? Or could go by who paid when, but that favors the btc rich. Any other ideas? I still think the first payers in the original group buy should get first crack, round robin style. I jumped in first on the first group buy, that should count for something... That's my biased opinion, anyway.

Agreed; maybe the default page should be "Summary" and the chart can load as an ajax call in the background.

So I purchased just 1 in the original buy. I have no BTC at the moment (cant figure out how to buy it ie bitinstant down) anyone willing to loan me enough BTC for 2 units? I can paypal transfer usd in return or as collatoral
regards,
Steven Marez
Right now you are only eligible for the number of units you purchased originally. So you can get 1 now. Also, BTCQuick has bitcoin for sale instantly (if they aren't out of stock) and they use google checkout. Also, if you verify on Coinbase you can get instant purchases too.

That kind of update in an uncertain environment makes all the difference IMHO. Thanks steamboat for staying classy. It's very much appreciated.

I'm pretty sure he's just referring to the total on the spreadsheet.
I've been drinking for a few hours now. If I owe any apologies, please point them out. Best policy is, "step away from the keyboard" after you've been drinking. But, we know how that sometimes works out. Yep. Drink and the keyboard don't mix well. Apologies. All gravy.

287 eruptors paid for. More than half. I wanted to buy so so many more. W. T. F. ! Yeah, I could have pre-paid, requested, a thousand more, too. But, W.T. F. do you think is fair? Uhh...

WOAH.....
Holy estimated DIFF coming up
Next 252000 13/08/2013 17:29 50'942'264.32
cant be right?!
The difficulty adjustment is an average across the two weeks. Some blocks will take longer than others. My estimator is currently predicting 45898197.93 although I'm imagining this will probably decrease some. Unless a bunch of people are getting their miners in, which is possible and then fuck.

arklan, please put me on the list as good for another four more if that option becomes available.
That is, I purchased two in the original buy.
I've already sent payment for the two which I'm qualified due to that.
And this is a request for another four if we end up with not all the original buyers exercising their option.
--
Per the groupbuy spreadsheet, at the moment, every original purchaser who has so far expressed an interest in buying more could buy 3x their original purchase in this 'customer appreciation' purchase and still the gross amount would be within the limit of 512.
IOWs, currently there is a commitment of 161 qualified 'customer appreciation' buys. Three times that is 483 which is less than the 512 limit.
For every original buyer at 2.1, if they were able to buy three more at 0.175, that would bring their average cost per unit down to about 0.65. Pretty close to today's 'retail' price per unit.
I see that 199 eruptors have been paid for. This means for every one that has been paid for up to this point one additional can be purchased, which equates to 398. That leaves 114 unaccounted for.

FYI NOTICE:
There is an error in the K16 Parts List on Github.
R47 is marked as 0603 package but the board requires an 0402 package.
This is a 100 ohm resistor. Qty 6 should be reduced to Qty 5 and an 0402 Qty 1 added.
I've fixed the error in the parts list but if you have ordered 0603 resistors for production you will need to also order some 0402 of the same. For DIY hand assembly you may be able to fit an 0603 in as a hack. I'll update later as I see how this works out.
Sorry everyone. I thought all the errors had been caught some time ago but this one slipped in as part of the last revision.
It's fairly minor in comparison to the ASICs that never ship, but it's a nuisance, I know.

i like your math. also, the first wave of 154 units has been paid for and shipped. well... it's paid for and I THINK shipped. friedcat said "here's the tracking info" but didn't actually provide any... which come to think of it makes sense since i haven't given him an address ...oh crap... he might mail it to utah. *panic* When you panic I panic.

Agreed; steamboat isn't responsible for the chip delay. Most of this skittishness is probably misdirected and should be targeted at Avalon.

Me, after what I went through with Butterfly Labs... this waiting game is a pleasant walk in the park relatively speaking.
On the other side of the coin, what people went through with BFL makes them a bit jumpy and afraid of yet another similar chain of events. Can't really blame them; everything about Bitcoin so far has been caveat emptor.
