481  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can gambling be profitable in long term ? on: August 16, 2017, 04:39:22 AM
gambling never be profitable in long term.Short term you can be profitable if you had good luck but long term 100% chance you will lose all your investment. If you are enough lucky on gambling then this is okay to you but I think 99% people are looser on gambling.play for fun and put how much money you can effort.continuously make 50-100 $ a day just impossible on gambling.

like I've said, define gambling. Poker is technicaly played in a casino, poker is gambling thus "casino" gambling can be long term profitable.
It can be but it requires a lot of patience, that's for sure. If you think about it, if you are requiring yourself to be patient in your games, you can practically always be in the profit side, and play slowly and keep track of your money and plan for the future if you will withdraw or not, something like that.

Yeah.. but my point is some gambling games have no chance of long term profit cos they will always been in the houses favour with fixed and predictable odds like roulette, but with poker you win from other people playing worse than you in the long run.
that's because in poker, you're playing against the other players instead of the house, and the casino just takes a rake of the pot for hosting the game and whatnot. even if the game might be profitable for the player, the casino still makes a profit.

Also, you should define gambling before asking this question.
There is +ev gambling,
and there is -ev gambling.
gambling is gambling, games where you risk your money for a chance to either win or lose. +/- EV are just two scenarios where you can generally expect a win or loss in the long run given a statistically ideal outcome. we dont need to be overly analytical and subdivide gambling into niche outcomes / cases / scenarios.

Theoretically it is possible. For a while things may work out for you. But in the end the house edge will win, it always does. There is no way to make profit from gambling in the long run, you may try your luck at it for a short while and then if you get any profits at all, just bag it and don't be greedy, run far away from gambling. This is the only way to profit from gambling. If you don't stop gambling, and it gets addicting to you, you will keep on investing all your saving into it to try and get a good profit but in the end you will lose every single Satoshi to house edge.
not always. +EV only means in a statistically perfect situation, the house will be expected to win by the house edge percentage over the long run. statistics doesnt say so, but it is possible to beat the house in the long run. its just unlikely.
482  Economy / Gambling / Re: Investing in btc casinos on: August 16, 2017, 04:21:30 AM
Investing in Bitcoin casinos is not bad . But I don't prefer to do such a thing. I have rarely seen people who make huge profits by investing in such things. Like if you see the ratio of people who have won and who have lost then you would see most of the people have faced losses compared to profit. It's an addiction , which would lead you to lose all your money. Even i used to bet a lot and I used to win , then I became more greedy which lead to me loosing all my money . Then I decided to quit every such thing and just earn the Normal way in which there is no risk and buying things directly from that money.
its not meant to make you a huge profit, but its moreso a way to expect a profit in the long run above all else. investing in a casino, which profits off of players playing in a -EV environment, can expect a positive EV for themselves and the investors. a year or so ago i put about 0.2 into a casino and ended up profiting around 0.025 in a month's period, all for doing nothing. could i have made much more by simply playing even 1 game? sure, but i would have run the risk of loss.
483  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you believe the FBI holds the biggest number of bitcoin? on: August 15, 2017, 10:13:14 PM
Don't they usually just sell it off when they confiscate it?
I think when silk road got seized, they held the coins for investigative purposes, and then ended up auctioning them off in bulk to any bidder at a much later date. I might be remembering things incorrectly though, someone feel free to correct me.

I think Bitcoin is too small and insignificant for governments to invest in it.
If you're asking about the FBI I think the only coins they are holding are the seized ones but these will be put on auction sooner or later.
Maybe if Satoshi is really a government employee and it's all a big scam... Am I going too far? Grin
in the grand scheme of things, i suppose its not, with a market cap (in usd) of under 70 billion dollars with 15.6 million coins in circulation. compare that to a ~4 trillion dollar annual budget for the us government. The theory of satoshi being a government agent and bitcoin being a secret project has come up before, but i personally dont think there's any actual reason to believe this was ever the case; if it was though, we'd be living in a much more digitalized world and bitcoin would have a much stronger economical presence.

In my opinion, religion can make peace if we can follow a religion correctly, do not violate the rules of religion, because religion teaches people to live better than ever, because life in the world is only temporary.
religion also teaches that you should publicly stone a woman to death for being raped. not exactly something id ever want to be a part of.
485  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin supersedes Cash in the near future? on: August 15, 2017, 09:03:07 AM
when you say 'cash' im assuming you mean fiat currency; my personal thought is no. not in this decade at least, for a simple reason: not enough of the world will pick up on bitcoin and be proficient enough in the basics that would warrant mass adoption. even though we are moving towards a digital age (imo), the ins and outs of bitcoin isn't something that many of the older population (middle age) would pick up easily out even be receptive to.
486  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: About that Wallet.dat File on: August 14, 2017, 10:58:20 AM
Hey subStrata!,

ive done it. now it shows 0 balance. and encrypt button is available.

But now its all syncing. does it have to sync everything to see my balance?

it would have to sync at least up to the block where the last transaction associated with the addresses in your wallet are contained to show an accurate balance. bitcoin core downloads the entire blockchain and keeps it up to date in order to properly keep track of transactions, history, etc. just let it sit and with any luck you might be able to access your coins in a day or two (or however long it takes for the client to sync).

Hey thanks. im letting it to update. if it doesnt go throughh (im sure im not that lucky),

Ill try what u mentioned in one of the other threads - the btc recover.

Thanks again!
no problem. best of luck and let me know later on if it actually works.  Smiley

488  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: About that Wallet.dat File on: August 14, 2017, 09:50:23 AM
So i really want to know- since i dont have my password,

Can i replace the wallet.dat file that comes along with the default installation of Bitcoin core- and get the value of the wallet back?

thanks for your time!

no. I'm not even sure if the wallet you got from blockchain is even compatible with the core client, and even if it was, it would still be encrypted.
if you do not have the password for your wallet file, you cannot access those coins.
unless of course, the wallet file was not encrypted with a password, in which case you would be able to. idk if you did it didn't encrypt the wallet file itself, wouldn't hurt to try though.
489  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help recovering wallet on: August 14, 2017, 02:37:52 AM
I already tried btcrecover - "designed for the case where you already know most of your password/seed, but need assistance in trying different possible combinations". I was using randomized sequence passwords T_T.
if you've absolutely no idea what your pw might've been you might be out of luck unless someone with more knowledge on the subject has something else you might be able to try. sorry m8.
490  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help recovering wallet on: August 14, 2017, 02:03:36 AM
Hello guys.

I've lost my passphrase for Bitcoin Core. I have about 5 wallet.dat backups and 3 old passwords, none of which work for me. I asked for help Dave at walletrecoveryservices.com and he refused due to the low price. There's a bit over 100$ on the wallet and I would be happy to give 25% of that to whoever helps me with this.
unless you can remember / recover the password somehow, id say those coins are pretty lost; if you can try to remember if you wrote the password down or something. I dont think people can really help you out much here, sorry.
However, you can try using this: https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover
read up on the tutorial and see if you can work it out somehow.

you might also read up on this thread where someone had a similar problem; you might be able to glean some other useful information you might be able to use. good luck.

Antminer S7-LN with sidehack mod

1'  55 decibels
5'  45 decibels
10' 42 decibels
15'  39 decibels
Thanks a bunch for following up; im a tad confused on what those numbers you put before the decibel readings mean; im assuming its how much you downclocked it, please correct me if im wrong.
looking around, I found thsi thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1504228.0
which i assume is the sidehack mod you're talking about; however I couldnt really understand / find how the mod is actually done. is it something that I could do fairly easily?
with the numbers you've given me, this might be something i pick up (if i can actually find one at a reasonable price), unless theres a comparable miner that's more efficient in terms of price / hashing power within my price range.
492  Other / Meta / Re: Account locked for safety on: August 13, 2017, 10:52:27 PM
I figured the 2014 account is better than starting again from 2017. I looked at signing the btc address but there is no option for signed messages  Angry
read this post on signing messages.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=990345.0
you posted a message with the address 1AYmiF8Bnrsc9wXWXzEKbyRyikWLibRGor here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1990541.msg19821336#msg19821336
if you can sign a message like in this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0 you should be able to get your account back.

Is there a less busy admin / moderator that can unlock accounts or do i need to bother the site admins for this?
no, its just theymos and Cyrus, youll need to pm one of them like in the post i linked.
493  Other / MultiBit / Re: How to open multibit.wallet on: August 13, 2017, 10:30:50 PM
Hi,

I was looking through my backup files and I noticed I have one called "multibit.wallet". I went to multibit website and found out they no longer developped the wallet, but google search still allowed me to download a Multibit desktop wallet.

I installed it but it turned out that the only method it presented to me to restore a previous wallet is to repeat the 12 words used to generate the wallet in the first place. I think this is new as I never had that before and I wouldn't know what these words were (again I don't recall every being asked for them).

Anyway, I was not able to just point the software to the old existing multibit.wallet file which I already have.

Is there any way to recover whatever is in that multibit.wallet file?

im assuming you have an older multibit wallet, and downloaded the newest multibit release off of their site, which may not be compatible. the site still hosts the older releases, you just have to look around a bit.
https://multibit.org/releases.html
on the left hand side of the page, you'll see:
latest
multibit HD
multibit classic

try either the classic or HD clients and you should be able to just open your wallet file like you used to be able to; I was able to open my old wallets and export the private keys using the classic client a few days ago.

495  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Need suggestions for a first time setup on: August 13, 2017, 10:12:32 AM
I'm only familiar with Bitmain products and mostly S9s, but I just bought some S7s as a space heater for my cabin and I turned their frequency down to 475M which still lets their hash rate stay above 3 tH/s and keeps their power down to under 1,000 watts.  The S7-LN has only 2 hash blades, comes with a PSU, and is very quiet and doesn't produce much heat.  You can also change the frequency on the S7-LN to further reduce power consumption and therefore reduce heat and noise.
I was looking at the s7's but it seems with stock settings, they produce around ~60 decibels of noise during operation, which is far more than what I would like. given that you've clocked yours down quite a bit, how much noise is / was your setup producing at that speed? theres a bunch of smartphone apps available that give you a pretty good reading on decibel noise levels. id you're still running that same setup, id much appreciate it if you could get a reading from that.
496  Other / Meta / Re: My account was hacked (isen) on: August 13, 2017, 09:57:38 AM
I could verify the signature with electrum, however, the message you provided is a little lacking; if you could please provide the location of the address you signed with was posted (preferably from a while back) and include the hacked account's name in the message, that'd make a much stronger case the account belonged to you (this information is required in the pm youll send theymos anyways). as far as messaging theymos goes follow the info in this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0
also, move this thread to the meta section, matters regarding hacked accounts and whatnot belong there.
fair warning though, the account recovery procedure tends to take a long time.
497  Economy / Marketplace / Re: How erning over 100000 satoshi/wekly on: August 13, 2017, 09:45:39 AM
First I apologize to moderators and administrators I do not know where to put this topic, if it does not fit here please move it to the right place, Thanks!

Everyone interested in earning 100,000 per week a week and more please contact me with a private message so I can send you directions. Do not ask me to publicize it because first you need to become my referral and then I'll send you the instructions. All obstacles and difficulties will be resolved with each one specially.

You invest in trusted mining website which will give you 100000 satoshi. There is a lot of websites.
there's a ton of cloud mining services / websites, but honestly none that I would put my money into. cloud mining is a popular front for a ponzi scheme, and even the legitimate ones, if they actually manage to prove themselves as legitimate to the community, are extremely hard to profit off of for the investor; assuming the operation is legitimate and not a scam, cloud mining is a business, and they are making money off of you. not the other way around. cex was a legitimate operation WAY back, but theyve shut down since the mining rewards were outweighed by the maintenance / electricity fees. dunno if theyve brought it back since the price rise though, havent bothered to check.
498  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: About that Wallet.dat File on: August 13, 2017, 09:37:58 AM
Thanks for your reply sub Strata! This procedure is for the wallets that's created only via multibit? sorry again i'm not good at these.

But i'm sure i created the wallet through blockchain.

On a side note - i have the backup file (turns out its actually not useful if i lose it)
Anyways,

Is there a procedure like the link i shared earlier to recover my wallet? I had lost my password.

Please bear with me for the confusions Huh Cheesy
ok so my bad, i did understand you wrong. so the wallet was created on blockchain.info a while back, correct? i've never actually used the blockchain.info wallet, so im not sure how it would work, but i dont think the wallet file is compatible with another wallet program (someone can correct me if im wrong on this). If blockchain.info allows you to upload the backup file you should be able to access it, but if you've lost your password you wont be able to access the encrypted wallet. However, if you have the seed phrase you should be able to recreate the wallet using the seed wallet importer that they provide, although im not sure if you have that or if blockchain.info offered that information to you when you made your wallet way back.
again, im not too familiar with the blockchain.info wallet service, so if someone else is more knowledgeable please do correct anything i mightve been wrong on.

Hello People!

Yes, i'm one of the unfortunate ones who actually lost a very few of my bitcoins. And i'm sure some of you might have too. its a very dark feeling lol.

I just happen to come across one of the posts that was posted on this site. which looks promising to a noob like me.

I just wonder if it could be true - while Multibit is not supporting anymore of its developments.

What do you guys think?

With the wallet. dat file can i do anything to recover like this?

Quote
If you still have all your files and your computer is not comprimised then will you be safe.

Listen to me this is very important:

STAY CALM

Many people loose their bitcoin in the process of recovering them.
As long as you stay clam and think very carefully about what you are doing, then are you good.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1077415.0

Thanks for your time,

Sh@1!

are you saying that you have a wallet file from a multibit wallet, but cannot access it?
if that's the case, the website still hosts the older releases for both multibitHD and the classic clients here: https://multibit.org/releases.html
assuming im understanding correctly, you should be able to access your old wallet file.
500  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Earn Bitcoins on: August 13, 2017, 04:59:15 AM
I am a newbie before and as a biginner i have to read the rules, keep on posting to be a jr member and read a lot about bitcoin to learn more. i used faucet to earn bitcoin but that is too small amount but it is ok because its free anyway. You have to wait until you become jr member atleast to join on signature campaign and earn bitcoin.
as far as the forum goes, sig campaigns arent the only way people earn some extra change on here; plenty of people are always offering / buying services and goods in the marketplace; if youve got a skill you can market effectively, thats a whole another opportunity.

Despite all the suggestions you will read in this thread

Unless you live in a very poor country, the fastest, easiest, and most convenient way to obtain bitcoins is to buy them.

This is the wisdom of the day. There's no secret to earning bitcoin. Bitcoin is currency. How do you earn money? Do that...do it better than you do it now...do it more often or for more money or for more people. And then ask them to pay you in Bitcoin.

It's that simple.
or this. just find a job and buy bitcoin / get paid in bitcoin to do whatever you wish.
