4821  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OFFICIAL LAUNCH: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: August 03, 2013, 01:56:26 AM
I realize this may seem rushed to you guys, but my first revision of this idea was published Jan 6th, 2012. I've been percolating on it for over 2 years and getting feedback for over 1.5 years, so it doesn't seem rushed to me at all - it seems positively glacial Smiley

Maybe we have different perspectives about time-frames - I have been working on building the CIYAM system since 2000 (initially it just a weekend hobby project) and have worked on it full-time since mid-2006 with the open source project launched late last year (initially it was a closed source system).

I also expect to still be very busy working on it in another 10 years.

That would not be a very simple thing as you would need a new *sticker* (that could be considered as safe) and who would create that (that could be trusted)?

Better to just store your Bitcoin offline and keep the coin as a souvenir I think.
4823  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OFFICIAL LAUNCH: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: August 02, 2013, 03:30:40 PM
As for answering scam accusations, the only way I can prove them wrong is by executing on this project.

I agree that the OP has not deleted any of my posts so I don't see any conspiracy here (from my posts I hope it is obvious that I am clearly not a "shill").
4824  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What is Bitcoin really? on: August 02, 2013, 03:11:34 PM
With so many forum members concentrating on alt coins and "how to get rich quick" I thought I'd just post the main reason why I think Bitcoin is so important and why I was so interested in it (and still am).

The amazing invention is actually not being a digital currency or a payment system but in being a "non-trust" reliant public DB (subject to a >50% control).

Before Bitcoin such a thing never existed (that I am aware of) and the ramifications of this invention will far outweigh the silly arguments about what a Bitcoin should be worth or whether it needs to be subject to whatever laws.

We are already seeing exciting new projects that are based upon the underlying blockchain and I expect we'll be seeing a lot more to come.

For the *real* believers I think that the "blockchain" is what we have most to thank Satoshi for!
4825  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OFFICIAL LAUNCH: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: August 02, 2013, 02:30:31 PM
It's very rushed because he's afraid he wont be first, and all other concerns are ignored or downplayed.

I agree and can understand the thinking also (I rushed to get CIYAM Open online well before I was really ready although I didn't ask for any investment).

Hopefully he will take his time and work out a more considered path forward (am still interested somewhat in the concept although I don't really like the idea of creating "dust" tx's that can never be spent).
4826  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Portion of Bitcoin enthusiasts who are into Ayn Rand? on: August 02, 2013, 01:38:50 PM
Personally I found Atlas Shrugged to be a lot like Kafka's The Castle (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Castle_%28novel%29) - it just keeps re-iterating its point (of being powerless under the powers that be) to the point of "boring me to sleep".

It has some points but the constant re-iteration just destroys the book as it becomes more like a "rant" than a discourse (and literally I feel asleep reading the longest speech in it and ended up just skipping most of it as it was so boring).

Its fans are of course the "believers" (as is the case with any book that "preaches to the converted") but I think it is very unlikely to be the kind of book that would have a chance of converting non-believers (it didn't change my thinking about anything at all - although after reading it I am not likely to ever read another book written by her).
4827  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Looking for a good starting point. on: August 02, 2013, 05:17:14 AM
I think cloning/downloading and taking a look is probably the best way - you might find it useful to start with "bitcoinrpc.cpp" as that's where the RPC commands are "handled" (this will lead you to other parts you might be interested in such as "wallet.cpp").

Enjoy!
4828  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: OFFICIAL LAUNCH: New Protocol Layer Starting From “The Exodus Address” on: August 01, 2013, 03:33:31 PM
While it is interesting to see that you've pushed a huge amount of funds into this (the vast majority being your own from what I read) - I am yet to even see a single comment from one of the Bitcoin devs.

I think we would all like to hear what they think.
4829  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: idea: QRcard - fully offline hardware wallet on: August 01, 2013, 11:50:34 AM
I also created a topic along the same lines and think that it would be even more useful if it could do GPG via QR.

A simple QR code message protocol could be created to enable the device to perhaps do several things (such as GPG signing, BTC tx signing, BTC address signing, etc.).

As GPG is available for Android along with Bitcoin wallet implementations (based around deterministic wallets) I think this wouldn't be so hard to prototype on a more standard Android device.

If someone with the Android experience was interested and has the time to take this on then I'd be willing to offer some BTC towards it (and of course the project could be managed on CIYAM Open fee free).
4830  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to use bitcoin without a internet connection? on: August 01, 2013, 06:15:59 AM
Because paying bitcoin is a one-way transaction. even the vendor has internet on spot, he or she has no clue about where the money is coming from.

A vendor should create a unique payment address for every tx so they *will* know exactly what payment to said address is for (and exactly where that "money" comes from should be of no concern).
4831  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How to use bitcoin without a internet connection? on: August 01, 2013, 05:55:15 AM
It would be possible to construct a "raw transaction" and then find some other way to broadcast that, however, it would not be very convenient method and of course the seller would still need internet connectivity in order to verify that the tx gets confirmed.

4832  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Holy Grail BOUNTY on: July 30, 2013, 01:25:41 PM
I work every day on CIYAM for *nothing* and have been doing so for years.

If others don't do this I don't blame them (you do need to pay bills in the real world) and the entire point of CIYAM Open is to create a place where developers can earn money for their contributions to open source projects that people want to support.
4833  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Holy Grail BOUNTY on: July 30, 2013, 01:01:25 PM
So what ... you are saying now open source projects need funding or they will never happen? Sounds like you might be in the wrong game if open source has become about the money for you ... and besides there is over 6k available in total for this project, which you are probably well aware of, and it doesn't seem to have inspired anybody greatly anyway.

Interested to know what price would you have put on getting this done professionally (not some intern, learner , etc)?

I do hope that you understand that I do not get any benefit from hosting Moneychanger or Xenland's project on CIYAM Open (they are fee free forever).

I am more interested in helping interesting ideas and projects than making money.

4834  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Holy Grail BOUNTY on: July 30, 2013, 12:37:22 PM
Just observing, not complaining ... bit sensitive?

Not sensitive - but realistic - if people don't contribute funds then how do they think that things will get done?

Things are happening but only at the rate that the funds that have been made available can make them happen.
4835  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Holy Grail BOUNTY on: July 30, 2013, 11:22:30 AM
So your status update is ... you haven't done much of anything? Thnx for keeping us in the loop.

Looks like Xenland has stalled out also.

Sure - it may be frustrating to wait for tasks to be finished but are you willing to do something (other than complain)?
4836  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Recursive Acronym: CIYAM ==> CIYAM Is You And Me on: July 30, 2013, 11:05:15 AM
I thought I'd create a topic to more formally introduce CIYAM and explain what the project is all about.

Having worked as a software engineer for many years I became frustrated with the growing trend of "copy and paste" programming and wanted to create a platform that would enable the fast creation of web applications using a completely different technique (which I have termed "Software Manufacturing").

The system generates source code (there is literally *no* manual source code in an application that is created properly with a CIYAM system). I chose C++ as the source code to generate because my expertise is programming C++ (since the 90's) but the platform itself could actually be ported to another language (provided someone built a compatible application server in another language).

Initially the technology platform (prior to being open source) was used to create an application for a client in China and in fact that system has been running for years with no bug reports for at least the last 2 years.

That technology platform was then turned into the CIYAM open source project last year (https://github.com/ciyam/ciyam) which was then used to create the CIYAM Open Project Management platform (http://ciyam.org/open).

The CIYAM Open project (being the first application written using the open source CIYAM web application technology platform) has been designed to provide a new kind of work environment for exciting and (from a privacy and monetary perspective) important projects such as Moneychanger and Xenland's P2P Crypt.

We are interested in finding new developers (mentoring can be provided by myself in exchange for some work) and helping out other interesting projects.
4837  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Holy Grail BOUNTY on: July 30, 2013, 10:59:03 AM
The entire focus of CIYAM Open is "tasks" so hopefully this matches what both the Project Manager and Contributor are wanting to achieve.

Also being a C++ programmer since the 90's I am happy to offer help (and already have done so) to parties working on this project (for CIYAM Open there is nothing better than a project that *succeeds* in its goals).
4838  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: If you used Brainwallet.org - MUST READ! - Security Breach! on: July 30, 2013, 09:06:55 AM
Personally I think that if people are silly enough to "secure" their bitcoins with nothing more than a poorly chosen password or pass phrase then they probably are best to be relieved of them.

The brainwallet itself is actually a useful "offline" tool (and anyone silly enough to use it "online" well...).
4839  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] CIYAM Open - Sign up now - over 25 BTC still unbid for on Moneychanger! on: July 29, 2013, 05:33:28 AM
Well I decided to complete T00003 myself as even with 2 BTC allotted it had not been bid on (actually it turned out to be very little work as you can see here: https://github.com/ciyam/ciyam/commit/7121cabd261a5371f842e1886a824a78fd36074a).

To make things easier for those interested in doing some work but who are worried their programming skills are not good enough I will be adding quite a few "house cleaning" type tasks such as http://ciyam.org/open/?cmd=view&data=20130728062354623000&ident=M100V131&chksum=0416c96c (there are always small improvements like this that I simply don't have time to work on myself).

At this stage I haven't funded this new task as I am going to create several such tasks and then work out a budget for each.

The what: "The wild Colonial Boy", which hashes to 4c46256d89e3d5ce17d8ea5aff2b31852bc6d09d293e9c324658d914ead92fc9, which is the Brain Wallet passphrase.

Quoted in case anyone missed the edit.

BTW I think next time I might have to make it a little bit harder. Smiley
