4841  Economy / Speculation / Re: No more correlation with stocks? on: November 10, 2022, 01:40:42 PM
I don’t know… It feels pretty correlated. My crypto portfolio and stock portfolios are both getting hammered. Sure, some days they may not move the same direction but the overall trend is certainly similar. I’d say my stocks are holding up much better, but I also think crypto will recover faster. We’ll see. I think the recent activity shows that we aren’t quite to safe haven status yet, but the beginning of this bear market showed some promise.
4842  Economy / Speculation / Re: How is everyone doing? on: November 10, 2022, 01:37:57 PM
Thanks for asking. I’ve been mentally preparing myself for a $13K BTC so I’m not too worried yet. I will admit though, I was hoping we would see Bitcoin hold the $20K range. I am curious how deep this recession will be and if interest rates are going to continue rising while assets get clobbered. I still haven’t shut down all my GPU miners though and am still optimistic that once this crash is behind us, there will be brighter days ahead.
4843  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: November 10, 2022, 01:35:14 PM
A couple of good games airing on cable TV tonight. You have the battle of New York up first with the Brooklyn Nets facing off against the New York Knicks. Then game 2 of the doubleheader on ESPN is the battle of Los Angeles between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers. With all the craziness surrounding all of these teams I have no idea how the night will go, but I tend to always think the Nets and Lakers have a good chance at winning. Although I think the Nets are having their issues and so are the Lakers so tonight could get ugly.

The Brooklyn Nets were very good that night, and Durant hit his 17th career triple-double, it was a great debut for J. Vaughn. By the way, Durant became the first player since Jordan to score 25 points or more in each of his team's first 12 games of the season. The Nets are clearly doing better than the Lakers, who lost again, and LeBron was injured in the last quarter and could not finish the game...

I'm not surprised though, maybe Durant's head are clear now, admit it or not, him and Nash are not a perfect match and I would say that he has something to do with Nash departure.

Anyhow, since everything has settled down in Nets, and somewhat all the drama is not at the back seat, Durant can concentrate on playing his best basketball. We can't compare it to the Lakers though. They are still a mess and the team is not built to win even with Lebron and Davis and Westbrook playing very hard.

I don’t know if I’d say that everything has settled down for the Nets. Kyrie still has some things going on and we’re all a bit in the dark after his meeting with Adam Silver. Ben Simmons still is afraid to shoot the ball and KD is clearly unhappy… Nobody will trade for Ben Simmons and only the Lakers want Kyrie in exchange for peanuts. This Nets experiment went far worse than I was expecting.
4844  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sam Bankman-Fried the "savior" and his ideas on: November 09, 2022, 11:59:33 PM
Sam Bankman-Fried is officially bankrupt. From starting the week with a net worth over 15 billion to ending it with nothing, this is truly one of the more spectacular bankruptcies I’ve ever witnessed. The world’s most generous billionaire is now broke. I always thought he came out of nowhere fast and when he started donating to liberal politicians I questioned what sort of businessman he is. Now we know. He was shady as fuck and while liberal politicians got nice donations, his customers lost their ass. Pretty typical. The industry is better off without him.
4845  Economy / Speculation / Re: what caused the bitcoin price to drop today? on: November 09, 2022, 09:42:50 PM
Have you seen the recent news about SBF and FTT? I think that's what caused this drop. Currently, the FTX exchange has blocked withdrawals and it is possible that thousands of investors will fall into a similar situation as the 2014 Mt.Gox floor crash caused.
While FTX is one of the biggest exchanges (2nd or 3rd), it eventual downfall wouldn't cause the situation anything remotely similar to Mt.Gox. Hell, I don't think that even Binance is big enough to compare with h Mt Gox market share prior to collapse.
I think the best hypothesis for crypto market would be if Binance really buys FTX right now. It may calm down investors and stop panic among them. Otherwise, prices can crash even deeper to very low levels such as 10,000$. On the other hand, by purchasing FTX, Binance consolidates itself as a titan exchange among all, leading crypto to more centralization, what is never good.

Sadly so many top tier scammers are completely ruining crypto environment this year. Reputation of cryptocurrencies is on its lowest level so far, I suppose.

Unfortunately, in the latest twist of events, binance walks away from this possible acquisition.

https://www.coindesk.com/business/2022/11/09/binance-walks-away-from-ftx-deal-wsj/

It says from the article that FTX issues are beyond their (binance) control and couldn't bail out FTX.
I believe this is one of the major contributing factor why there is sudden drop in btc.

That is definitely a major reason why the market is selling off hard.  If Binance can't fix the problem you've created, you know you messed up.

Hard to believe this all started with Sam tweeting about CZ poking fun at him a couple days before Halloween.  It's hard to believe that someone could be so out of touch.  Sam was tweeting that people should hold and was teasing the idea of airdropping coins to those who didn't panic right up until the end.  Now he's just deleting those tweets and hoping to escape with his freedom and his billion dollar golden parachute.

This cycle has been a strange one.  First Do Kwon and now Sam...  If only greed didn't play a factor, I'm sure we'd be sitting at much higher levels right now.

4847  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: November 09, 2022, 09:33:36 PM
Lebron James must be pretty angry with the team now. Because the team are still a mess as it is seen clearly from their results so far. They have won only 2 out of 10 games. Lebron is still doing his best and performing strongly despite being 37 years old. But the team are still struggling to get wins just as it was in the previous season.

Westbrook is still here. Lakers should have traded him with a more talented and consistent guard. If Lakers insist on not making the right transfer moves there is no way they are saving themselves out of this mess.
If we remember the news before the start of the season and the drama about Lakers roster and possible trades, we can see the reason of failure of Lakers. Ah, what a mess. That period with the trade news was crazy. Brooklyn Nets and LA Lakers are maybe the most talked and most disappointed teams this year so far. Lakers only won 2 games and Houston Rockets are at the same win also. I mean, come on. I like Rockets and they are incredibly young and promising. But Lakers should be better, come on.

At least it's a good news that Dwight Howard has found a home somewhere else, and so he can continue with his basketball career.

And there is no shame in playing somewhere else, maybe when he play better in other league, some NBA team will see that he still have it and maybe get him again. And there are players like Marbury who after their career is over in the NBA, became superstar in China and for sure still made a ton of money. And again, usually ex-NBA players find stardom in China or Taiwan league. Perhaps they have the advantage being an NBA player or it is really that they still have that fire inside of them to play hard every day.

Of course, it's nice that Dwight Howard will still be playing for a team. His age was quite advanced and he had actually entered a difficult period for the NBA, it is normal for him to be transferred to such a team when he cannot earn as much money as he wants.
But I wouldn't want a legendary player who has played for the best teams in the NBA all this time to play here to make money, instead he could play for a good team in Europe. Of course, his income would change accordingly, but at least he would have a chance to achieve something more in his career Smiley
I couldn't agree more. No offense to Taiwan but how challenging can their league be? Dwight Howard could be huge in Europe and the leagues are so much more fun. Spain, Greece, Italy, Turkey, Euroleague. He could have a big impact and overall more exciting for everyone. Fans, teams and Dwight Howard himself. Still, I know he is into yoga and maybe he wanted to have an asian experience. It could be.

The rumors surrounding LeBron James and the Lakers right now are hitting crazy levels.  Now that they've continued losing even with Westbrook playing well people are starting to point the finger at Anthony Davis.  Today there's even an article out saying the Lakers could trade Anthony Davis to the Nets for Kevin Durant.  As much as I'd love to see Durant and LeBron play together, it seems like that isn't a realistic possibility.  I thought the same thing about Carmelo Anthony though so who knows...  One thing is for sure, people want to see the Lakers do something before LeBron runs out of time to add to his legacy.

4848  Economy / Economics / Re: Meta fires 11k employees - Effect of economy or being bullish about metaverse? on: November 09, 2022, 09:22:23 PM
This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.  Not only was it stated this was coming, but the market has absolutely punished tech stocks this year.  I imagine that many companies will be joining Meta in the near future to layoff employees.  I only hope that it is contained to some extent and we don't see another massively damaging recession like we saw in 2008 when it was very common for people to be laid off from their jobs.  That extended into a massive drop for the stock market and housing markets, which led to stimulus by the government that caused the last 15 year runup in the markets topped by the Covid money printing that has now caused the government to even pull back on the market support.

Pray this doesn't get worse, because there's plenty of time for it to get much worse, especially with Biden at the helm for another two years.
4849  Economy / Gambling / Re: Haha EDDIE and TEHRANI from STAKE being sued on: November 09, 2022, 09:13:56 PM

This is somewhat old news at this point, but you digging it up and being happy about it says a lot more about you than it does them for getting sued.  When you are successful, people get jealous.  That's just the way it goes.  That's why people say if nobody is hating on you or spreading lies about you, it's probably because you aren't doing anything worthwhile.  With the success that the team at Stake has had, it isn't surprising that people are coming to try and get a payday from them.  Most of the time these lawsuits are filed in the hopes of securing a settlement, but in this case, according to what you've provided, it sounds like this will be dismissed entirely.
4850  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Can FTX Token Beat Its All-time High Of $100? on: November 09, 2022, 09:10:41 PM
I just hope we don't see another Luna type situation here.  Sam seems too smart for that, but you never know...

Well, now we know...  Sam was playing leverage games with customer funds and now we all lose...  Amazing how with a net worth of over 15 billion dollars and running one of the largest crypto exchanges in the world, Sam still felt it wasn't enough.  He still felt he had to play leverage games with customer funds to try and be worth hundreds of billions of dollars.  When you see him talk about how he's going to give away all his money and how he's making all these political donations, it seems almost impossible that at the same time he'd be gambling with customer funds.  There was no reason other than greed, and it's a shame that regulations aren't in place to stop that sort of gambling.  Now I wonder if Sam is going to be criminally liable for what he's done.
4851  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Vs Cash which is more secure on: November 09, 2022, 09:05:52 PM
Which you believe is more secure is highly dependent upon your definition of secure.  Sure, cash is nice because you can take it with you and spend it without the need for electronics or an internet connection.  That makes some people feel secure.  Who doesn't have that hidden $20 dollar bill stuffed in their wallet?

However, if you're talking about security like the government is trying to seize your funds, then cash is clearly the easier target.  Whether that's cash on your person or in a bank account, the government can just take it from you.  Bitcoin offers you the ability to secure your coins to the point where nobody else can take them from you, and that to some people is everything.
4852  Economy / Speculation / Re: How fast will Bitcoin fall down? on: November 09, 2022, 09:02:57 PM
The speed at which the market declined from $21K down to $16K has been rather impressive.  It shows that this isn't typically selling and that there are some serious deleveraging and liquidation events going on here.  The first step down to 18K had massive volume, which we can assume was mostly FTX liquidating their funds to see if being solvent was a possibility.  This next leg down to $16K seems a little lighter on the volume (still a lot) and looks to me more like retail liquidations or panic from the market participants.  I'm starting to feel like we're close to the short term lows here and it seems like a dead cat bounce back into the $17K range should be happening soon.  Who knows how big this FTX problem really is though...  There's always concern we could be headed down another 20%.
4853  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: November 09, 2022, 08:59:52 PM
With all the drama surrounding Kyrie Irving, I wonder if tonight might be a good night to bet on the Knicks to upset the Nets?  Then there's also Kevin Durant who can singlehandedly carry his team to a win on any given night.  Still, if I were ever going to bet on the Knicks taking down the new look Nets, I think tonight would be the night.  Not feeling confident enough to put any of my own money on the line for that feeling, but still I wonder if anyone else is willing to take that bet...  Any Knicks fans in here feeling good about tonight?
4854  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: November 09, 2022, 08:57:54 PM
Yeah, Alex is a hard read. We haven't really seen him challenged, however that's partly because his opponents have sort of played into his game. Sean Strickland basically sat on the centre line, and wanted to knock him out. He wasn't even moving his head. I literally saw that knockout coming before it even did, and I think a lot of other people did too. It would just crazy to think he went into the fight like that.

Bruno Silva is the best fight to watch to get a feel of his skill. However, Izzy isn't going to fight like Silva. Izzy doesn't really fight like anyone else. He's got a style of his own, and he's incredibly lanky (for a lack of a better word) for the division, which means he can score points in relative safety. I don't think Alex is going to get close to him personally, Izzy will be using leg kicks to keep the distance, and will have an escape route whenever Alex gets too close.

It's up to Alex if he wants to get close, and I'm not even sure how he's going to do it with how long limbed Izzy is, and the fact that you'd assume Izzy is better versed in takedown defense, and takedowns themselves. So, when you look at their previous bouts, Izzy had the upper hand until he didn't. If you take a look at their UFC records, then Izzy probably has the upper hand, but with the added benefit of being able to change things up if he wants too. He probably doesn't, but at least he has that card to play if he does find himself in trouble.

Alex seems to have okay takedown defense when we've seen it. Not brilliant, but not bad for someone who's relatively new to the UFC.

When you look at their previous fight where Izzy got knocked out, Izzy was way too close to him and putting himself in danger of being hit with a strong punch.  If you look at Izzy's fights since then, he is extremely careful to keep his distance, to the point where people sometimes get frustrated watching his fights.  However, I think this is a direct result of being knocked out by Alex and was an adjustment that he made that allowed him to become one of the best.  Still, the memory of being KO'd is floating in his head and will surely be some sort of a distraction come fight night.  Hopefully Izzy is able to overcome.  It should be his most exciting fight yet.
4855  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DOGE] Dogecoin - very currency many coin - v1.10.0 on: November 09, 2022, 08:45:44 PM
Dogecoin likely to go up with Elon Musk acquisition

This may very well be true.  The problem with DOGE is that it moves more with rumors than it does with fundamentals.  The highs keep getting lower and those who bought the run up to Saturday Night Live, or the pump attempt after the drop are still in the red.  Even with the Twitter news, the high was still a lower high.  It's possible that DOGE users may be in profits again at some point, but I question how long it would last.  It seems the DOGE market is so full of speculators, it is going to be a game of boom and bust anytime a new rumor persists.  I wouldn't want to put a big bet on DOGE as a result.
4856  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coins on an exchange, any exchange, are never safe on: November 09, 2022, 08:36:30 PM
Every day it seems a new story emerges about an exchange going bankrupt. Has been a recurring pattern since the Mt. Gox collapse. Why, with so many examples of failures, do people continue to keep their money on these? You don't own crypto if you have "coins" on an exchange, you have an IOU from a business that may or may not even be solvent.

A lot of people don't trust themselves to hold onto their own funds.  They figure the people running the exchanges are professionals and wouldn't do dumb things with their money.  FTX showed that isn't the case.  It's amazing to me that Sam managed to get himself more than 15 billion dollars in wealth and it still wasn't enough to keep him happy and stop him from doing stupid things with customer funds.  It absolutely amazes me.  The amount of damage that has been done to the industry by these selfish get rich with other people's money types is immeasurable.  If the average person cannot trust anyone to custody their funds for them, crypto can't go mainstream.  The same reason people keep their money in a bank instead of under their mattress.
4857  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will FTX became the second Luna? on: November 09, 2022, 08:15:13 PM
Well last week was Gala, and today FTT.. What's next? #Bitcoin is the best

I think it would. I don't want it to. But at the current FTT is dumping I don't think it will be able to recover at all.
It would probably bleed in red till the price goes to zero and hence the eternal collapse of FTT.
I wonder what's going to happen with Solana now that FTX is going down the drain.

I think that's how FTT will continue to fall as the news continues to heat up right now, and I'm no longer sure about altcoins which in reality can be bad even though many say FTX is a big exchange as evidence we see their tokens can be dumped by someone.
Might have an impact on Solana too but recently I saw Crypto.com delaying USDC withdrawals on the solana network on the other hand there is more bad news about Solana so I guess this is the biggest scenario I see.

Ya, besides FTT obviously falling to nearly 0, SOL might be the next biggest loser as FTX was a big supporter of the network.  It's probably a good thing for the industry as a whole, but for anyone with leverage they're going to take a hit on the chin.  The rest of us will have to close our eyes and hope that the other side of this storm is better.  I think it will be, as price swings that clear our leverage are in everyone's best interests and it looks like the largest player in the leverage risk space has just gone down.  Hopefully there was enough time for people to get their funds out and hopefully it doesn't continue to spread throughout the market.
4858  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can roullete be rigged? on: November 09, 2022, 08:07:04 PM
I talk on live roullete in physical casino can it be rigged?

If you're talking about gambling over the internet, anything can be rigged.  In fact, a lot of new casinos pop up with deposit bonuses just to get your funds and then either you cannot withdraw or you're subjected to playing games that will make you a loser every time.  I would urge you to look into transparent and provably honest casino games if you feel like it's a possibility that you are being cheated.  Where there's smoke there's fire as they say and if you're getting a bad feeling from the site you're choosing to gamble on, either research and make sure that it's legitimate or find a new site that you feel is honest.
4859  Other / Meta / Re: We should have a "who is satoshi" subforum on: November 09, 2022, 07:24:08 PM
We should have a "who is satoshi" subforum, since it comes up so often.

No, we shouldn't.  There is absolutely no good that could possibly come from identifying satoshi at this point.  It could only be bad.  Attacks on his personal character to discredit Bitcoin.  Maybe using his personal political beliefs to try and splinter the community.  He could be arrested for his creation.  It would make him the biggest kidnapping target on the planet...  Why would he want to be known at this point and if you can agree he wouldn't want to be known, then why would we go out of our why to try and identify him?  Seems like a shitty way to give thanks to the person who gave life to the concept that will change the world.
4860  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin Forum - Statistics 2012 vs 2022 on: November 09, 2022, 07:19:21 PM

Non2 of the top 10 posters from 2012 are here in 2022, I wonder if they got rich and left bitcointalk or may be dead?
Worth noting some user were active until recently
- kiba was last active as recently as March 03, 2022
- Phinnaeus Gage, MoonShadow and rjk were last active in 2020
The possibility of death is less likely, given that most of those who learn about Bitcoin are between 18 and 66 years old, and therefore adding 10 years will not change the death rate much.

The probability that they will be rich is not high, but depends on the definition of the word rich and it varies from one country to another, but if it is one of the countries where 100,000 dollars means a lot, then it will definitely be closer to being rich.

I don't think the possibility of death is that unlikely.  We know for sure that Phinnaeus Gage has passed on for example.  It wouldn't surprise me if others had as well.  10 years is a very long time.  I look at all the things that have happened in the last 10 years in my own life and it's such a long time anything could have happened.  People could be diagnosed with and lose their battle to cancer in 10 years.  People could get into car accidents, not to mention if the Covid pandemic was as scary as people say, many users could have been lost to that.

Don't underestimate death and a decade of time.  This is a good reason why we should appreciate who is here now.  In 10 more years, it's likely many more common names on the forum will disappear.
