4901  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where will we stand at the end of pandemic? on: July 14, 2020, 01:14:11 PM
If the situation worsens do you think we will get more investment from newbies who might by switching from their traditional investment to a crypto as none of the businesses are going to prosper during this situation so there are chances we will get more investment into crypto
Not likely.  I don't know how much more the situation could worsen, unless we start seeing massive numbers of new cases or a mutated strain of the coronavirus (and perhaps a more virulent one at that), but my guess is that if the world has to go into lockdown again for a significant amount of time, we'd start seeing people pulling money out of their investments, including crypto.  That's basically what happened early on in March/April, when we saw the stock market take a hit.

I'm hoping that scenario won't happen, and I've got my fingers crossed that there will be an effective vaccine developed to combat COVID-19.  That would take quite a while, but I think the world could suck it up until one comes to market.

Bitcoin got lucky IMO.  I'm really surprised that it didn't keep sliding toward $5k or lower when everything seemed like it was being sold off.  Bitcoin rebounded quite nicely, and that's a bit baffling to me.  Maybe it had something to do with the stimulus money, but who knows.
4902  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does the police do if they seize bitcoin from criminals? on: July 14, 2020, 10:30:46 AM
There is no law that says "Police can then take his private keys and move his coins to a government's address".
There might not be a specific law dealing with cryptocurrency and seizing someone's private keys, but you can bet that it falls under the same law that allows police to seize any other asset they're allowed to.

As to what the cops do with any crypto they've commandeered, I don't really know--but I'd imagine if the amount was large enough (as in the Silk Road bust) they'd auction it off and keep the proceeds.  But who knows what they do with seized assets.  I don't trust cops as far as I can throw them, so I wouldn't put it past them to just keep it for themselves.  There's a lot of corruption in both law enforcement and government in general in case you hadn't heard.
4903  Economy / Reputation / Re: Am I a shitposter? - asking for an honest opinion on: July 13, 2020, 07:54:17 PM
I took a quick glance at the first page of your posting history and it doesn't seem to me that you're writing just to get paid.  Shitposts generally have a smell you can recognize from a mile away.  They're not directed at any particular member; they show evidence of the poster not having read anything in the thread; and whatever is being expressed is just vague generalized statements that you've probably read hundreds of times before.

The thing is, our campaign manager, Brainboss, thinks my posts don't meet 'quality standards' and has demoted me to a lower rank in the bitvest campaign.
If this is your concern then we can't do anything. Because every campaign managers have their own standard to prevent spam.
That sucks, but unless BB sees this thread and perhaps changes his mind there's not much the community can do to influence his decision.  You're not a bad writer by any means, and I'd say you could probably increase your post quality simply by taking more time when you're writing.

Good luck, bro.
4904  Economy / Reputation / Re: nutildah trust abuser on: July 13, 2020, 05:27:27 PM
You are faggot and pedophile.
There is not a single proof.
You are eating sperm and watching child porn.
Bro, I've got no skin in this game but I would suggest that if you want to refute the accusations against you, you do it with evidence of your own rather than turning to juvenile insults like the above, which don't help you at all--and I'm assuming you are in fact looking for some kind of resolution to your trust page issues....right?

There have been innumerable cases of people getting negged based not on rock-solid proof but strong evidence of [insert offense here].  Oftentimes you can't prove beyond a reasonable doubt that someone is a scammer or an alt or whatever, but that doesn't mean there aren't clues that would convince a rational person.  That's just how the trust system works here, and there are enough shady characters here that the community often thinks good evidence is good enough for a tag or flag.  If the evidence turns out to be flimsy, there's a good chance some minds might be changed and some feedback or flags removed.

You're not attacking the evidence with refutations, however.  You're just raging.
4905  Other / Archival / Re: OldSamurai is an alt of scammer/fake escrow impersonator Boombl4 on: July 13, 2020, 05:20:17 PM
now i have created a flag on you same as you did to me for no reason.
That's not a good way to go about arguing your case, even if you feel extremely aggrieved by the flag and feedback you got.  There was a lot of evidence presented here as to why you ought to get flagged (and negged), whereas you've got nothing on nutildah.  Don't abuse the flag system or the trust system, that's my advice.  If you do, you're just going to stab yourself in the footsies as far as garnering support for your case.

4906  Other / Meta / Re: Am I the oldest member here? on: July 13, 2020, 03:56:41 PM
I thought you were only 40-45 years old, in real life, you were already 78 years old.
I knew Jet Cash was far older than 45 but I don't think I ever knew his exact age--props to you, Jet Cash, for staying abreast of crazy tech developments like cryptocurrency.  I know a lot of older folks who still don't know how to use a computer or even have a cell phone.  And you have a level of ambition and drive that I've always admired.  May you have many years to come, my good sir.

But as far as your question goes, I can't say for certain if you're the oldest member here but you've got to be close.  I'd say the vast majority of people registered on bitcointalk are in their 20s-early 30s (and that's just a guess on my part).  I thought Bruno was an outlier, and he was "only" in his 60s if I'm not mistaken.
4907  Economy / Economics / Re: The Decentralized Economy During COVID-19 on: July 12, 2020, 09:37:03 PM
I've heard that term "de-fi" before, but I can't say I know much about what it means, and I'll have to school myself.

But even without knowing what that is exactly, as far as the topic of this thread goes I don't think COVID-19 is having much to do with decentralized finance, either with those tokens or crypto in general.  There's been less use of cash because of fear of handling money that's potentially contaminated, but nobody I know IRL is using crypto any more than they were prior to the outbreak--and I don't see why it should be that way in any case.

2.Decentralized finance is a buzz term, just like blockchain technology, smart contracts and Dapps.
I won't be surprised if the De-Fi projects turn out to be the ICOs of 2020-a bunch of scams.
Interesting.  And you might be right, since I'm pretty sure people are looking for the next ICO-thing now that ICOs themselves have turned out to be all scams or worthless projects.  That'll never end until people realize they're not going to get rich by doing nothing.
4908  Other / Meta / Re: Paraphrasing, is it ok? on: July 10, 2020, 02:29:04 PM
That's not paraphrasing, OP; that's word-substitution plagiarism.

We probably unknowingly paraphrase other people's ideas off the top of our heads when we write here, but most of us aren't looking at someone else's text when we're writing a post--and that's the difference.  That text-spinning shit is straight up plagiarism.

I think he took the time to rewrite it  Cheesy a hard-working guy  Cheesy
Yeah, assuming he didn't use a bot to do it.  And if he didn't, why not just put that same amount of effort into writing a post with your own thoughts?  I don't get it.
4909  Economy / Reputation / Re: Vispilio: Merit Source Scammer Offering A Deal For His Feedback To Be Revised on: July 09, 2020, 05:55:41 PM
There is nothing wrong with that if the mutual red trust is a result of something that's been resolved or is otherwise forgivable. Theymos seems to want us to deescalate and forgive but that's not being practiced as much as it could. It has nothing to do with being a merit source either.
Agreed, and I did much the same thing with some member whose username I can't recall at the moment [edit: iluvbitcoins].  It wasn't entirely so that he would remove his neg on me, though.  I'd had some doubts about leaving him a neg and should have given him the benefit of the doubt at the time.

And then there was Vod and another member going through much the same ordeal not too long ago, and again I'm forgetting the other member's username.  There's nothing inherently wrong with trying to come to a truce, but I think if you've left feedback that you know is correct you probably ought to stick with it.

The ninja jollygood is a radical islamist imbecile
This sounds serious. Did you contact Interpol?
LOL.  Seriously.
4910  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin is safe-haven, why mirror the price movement of the U.S stocks? on: July 09, 2020, 12:21:50 AM
If you start giving people free money and or lend it to them at extremely low interest rates, and you'll start seeing asset classes correlate in their movements, regardless of what they are.  That's my layman's opinion about what OP's brought up here.  I don't think gold and bitcoin have a strong, long-term connection.  What that graph shows is a short-term correlation of two assets caused by macroeconomic conditions (as far as I can tell).

Bitcoin is certainly NOT a safe-haven asset.  Gold?  I guess it's as safe as any speculative asset can be, though there's still no guarantee that it's going to preserve any given person's wealth, as it depends on what price you got in at.  Anyway, that's a debate which has been done to death IMO.
4911  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My hardware wallet was seized by US customs. on: July 07, 2020, 01:35:21 AM
In recent years, in some countries of the world, customs have been supervising not only postal packages containing electronic equipment, but also personal electronic items such as mobile phones or laptops.
And that's a bunch of bullshit, as is the experience Jet Cash went through.  Taking a hardware wallet on a plane or having it sent somewhere?  So what?  If you wanted to move huge amounts of money, you could just send bitcoin to someone in another country instead of flying it over.  There's no need for any government agency to know how much you've got on that wallet (and it's a damn good thing they'd have a hard time figuring it out themselves with just the wallet to work with).

Good to see you active here again, Jet Cash.  I'd wondered where you've been lately.
4912  Economy / Reputation / Re: To all DT1 members | Interesting negative feedback from JollyGood! on: July 06, 2020, 06:48:49 PM
The OP doesn't deserve red trust. Ignore - fine. Excluding from trust lists - probably advisable. Red trust due to posting in Vispilio's thread? No. That looks like red trust for an opinion.
Agreed.  I'm not saying JollyGood is wrong in what he's saying (I actually don't know the facts so I don't have an opinion) but ignoring and/or excluding seem like better options for him to take.

Also, I don't think this issue reflects on DT as a whole.  You don't see a lot of negs being left for differing opinions these days, and you're seeing DT members disagree with another DT member for doing that right here.

Looks like this has been resolved, which is surprising to me but refreshing.
4913  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merit begging or complain on: July 05, 2020, 04:56:11 PM
Just ignore it.
And block his PMs if they continue to come, which I doubt they will.  I've received odd, almost random PMs by members like this one before and I don't think it's a huge deal or even a major annoyance worth reporting.  That guy didn't seem to be merit begging, just complaining to you.  If you wanted to be a really nice person you could take a look through his post history and see if there's anything there worth a merit or two.

I might do that myself, actually.  I won't give out any charity merits, but it's possible he's made at least one or two decent posts.

Edit:  Jesus, even a brief glance at his post history shows that he's a full-on shitposter and my guess is that he's not a member of bitcointalk because he's a fan of bitcoin but rather because it represents a work-from-home job.  And looking at his trust, it would appear he's cheating at that anyway.  No merits from me.
4914  Economy / Economics / Re: Privacy Coins and The Shadow Economy on: July 04, 2020, 11:52:34 PM
The privacy coins will allow anyone to achieve true freedom and financial sovereignty that was never thought possible before.
In theory they could do this, but my guess is that in practice there are very few people around the world using privacy coins for much.  If people own a coin like PIVX it's probably just to earn through PoS or to run a masternode or whatever, not to bypass any laws.  I'm not even sure you can buy anything on the dark web with privacy coins, where you'd think they'd have the most utility.  Last I heard, bitcoin was the primary crypto accepted for illegal crap.

But who knows?  Things might be kinda bleh for privacy coins now, but that could change if more people start getting into not just bitcoin but cryptocurrency in general.  There's certainly a use for them that's not being taken advantage of at present.

Sometimes I have a feeling I'm listening to some kids planning on building a fort from cardboard boxes.
LOL.  I get the same vibe sometimes.
4915  Other / Meta / Re: Video tutorial needed for newbies on: July 04, 2020, 06:58:05 PM
I do not see any reason to change the text color.
Same here--I have a dark mode going in my browser and blue-on-black definitely isn't a great combination.

There was some talk by Theymos a while back of creating a Youtube channel, but nothing ever came of it that I know of.  I'm pretty sure that was supposed to be way more than a tutorial, but had a channel been launched a walkthrough probably would have been a nice feature that a lot of folks would likely view.

OP, nothing is likely to come of your suggestion simply because Theymos doesn't make a lot of changes and doesn't tend to do things like what you're proposing, but it isn't a bad idea.  Maybe someone with a healthy amount of ambition and forum spirit could produce something along the lines of a video tutorial.  Where's Jet Cash when you need him?
4916  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Australia post office now accepts Bitcoin on: July 04, 2020, 03:49:49 PM
Keyword: may be
The article also says you'll be able to buy bitcoin at post offices, and that'd be kind of neat if it came to fruition.  Not that I'd be able to take advantage of any of this since I don't live in Australia, but it would definitely be some progress toward mass adoption.  Then again it could well be a service that disappears if few people use it--and that's always a possibility, just like all those retailers that stopped accepting bitcoin after finding out that there isn't a big demand to spend it.

Still, kudos to the Aussie PO for at least considering this.  I don't think the US is going to see something like their post office selling bitcoin anytime soon.  And they probably should, since they're on the brink of bankrupcy as it is.
4917  Economy / Economics / Re: Which is better, staking or investing? on: July 01, 2020, 05:41:58 PM
Staking is a form of investing, you'd need to specify what form of investment to compare it with.
That's what I was thinking--this question is a false choice, since when you buy a PoS coin to stake you're investing in that coin.  Not quite sure what OP is asking in that case.

PoS coins aren't very popular on this forum from what I've seen, but I happen to think they're pretty cool.  The main problem I see is that there's no barrier to entry as far as someone wanting to create his own staking coin, and so far the result of that fact is that there are quite a few of them on the market.  To me that means a lot of them likely won't be able to maintain their value over time--and the same could be said for many altcoins in general, whether PoS or not.
4918  Economy / Economics / Re: US BTC mining farm buys 17,600 miners on: June 29, 2020, 06:06:50 PM
I'm not sure how I feel about mining being this political, though I suppose it's always been that way.  Seems like everything these days is political, especially when it comes to China and the US.

That project got canceled in January.
Ah, that was the first thing that came to mind when I read this and I wasn't aware that they'd scrapped the project.  I'll have to take a look at that article to see why.

They are sure that these miners will pay off?
I'm sure they've done some math beforehand and are as sure as they can be.  I bet that taxes are a big disincentive for creating mining farms in the US, though I couldn't say for sure.  Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what comes of this.
4919  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism on: June 28, 2020, 10:43:49 PM
Three out of four posts made by baniakash have been copy-pasted from Cryptotalk. I just reported them with links to original sources.
Just to hop off-topic for one second: is cryptotalk.org still active and paying its members to post there?  I figured that shithole of a forum would die as soon as Yobit stopped hyping it up, which they seem to have done.

If cryptotalk is still active, my guess is that there's probably a lot more of these examples of plagiarism, because the last time I visited that site some of the threads were ripped directly from here, and I'm sure there's got to be a lot of cross-posting and content-stealing going on.  This is a blast-from-the-past for my bee's nest of a head.  I hadn't thought about Yobit OR cryptotalk in months.

Once a thief - always a thief.
Once a liar - always a liar.
I believe people can change their ways and would disagree with the above in general, but as far as forum plagiarists go I'd say it's true.  They have no incentive to stop doing what they're doing and they're too lazy to do so even if they had motivation to stop stealing people's words.
4920  Economy / Reputation / Re: Earned Merit Race Animation - See if you ever got to top20 merited. on: June 28, 2020, 09:14:27 PM
That is a very cool animation, OP.  I had my eye on Jet Cash's performance and it kind of got me wondering where's he's gone to.  He used to be extremely active here and was doing a lot of work to help newbies and such.

Anyway, I'm surprised I'm still on that chart.  My merit-earning has dropped off a cliff in the past year or so--and that's fine by me, since it's not like I can rank up any more.  And my sMerit supply as a merit source keeps getting replenished so fast that I haven't had to dip into my earned sMerits in a long time....but yeah, thanks for that little bit of entertainment, OP.

But I am curious where some previous top ones on the list right now.
I am too.  It doesn't surprise me, since members come and go as their interest in either bitcoin or the forum waxes and wanes, and it's been 2.5 years since the merit system was rolled out.  That's a pretty long time when you're talking about participation on a discussion forum.
