i'm fairly certain i will lose the bet and THEN price will go above 410  Grin

Pretty sneaky aren't you?

$2 is quite cheap to raise the price by $4. Depending on how many coins you have in cold storage, that's a very good return.

This old thread? Cool. I can post this old image:

Why am I the only one apparently concerned by this? Everybody cool with Chinese government's hand on the kill switch?

I am not concerned with this at all... Should provide a massive shorting opportunity.  Grin

Me neither. If the Chinese miners were all shut down, difficulty would plummet. Would that make my old BFL miner not obsolete anymore?  Grin

when the next 24 hours are truly critical, there will be 3 types of users surfing the net, users HODLING, users wanting to HODL, and retards trying to figure out to get shit tons of freshly acquired fiat into their bank accounts in less than 24 hours before its completely worthless.  Wink

the perfect time for buying was when the price was still below $300 $100.

ftfy

if you look at it from your way, then sub $10 was even a more perfect price to buy at. the majority of the people have not seen sub $100 coins.

I'd thought of saying sub-$1 but that was back in the early adopter days. I think most of the world woke up to Bitcoin before the price broke $100 for good back in 2013.

I suppose I should have considered how many people didn't clue in until the run up in autumn 2013. I can't help but think of them as noobs despite the fact that most of them are Hero Members now. I still consider myself a noob for not getting in when the price was in single digits.

4927  Economy / Speculation / Re: What caused the recent price increase ? on: February 15, 2016, 04:20:19 PM
This price rise is nothing more than a return to where it was before the Mike Hearn tantrum.

The price stable? In the past 6 months it has gone from under $200 to over $500, back down to under $300 and back up to over $450, down to $350 and back up over $400 again. That's hardly stable. It's a freaking roller coaster.

Checked weather forecast, it said -11C. When I got there it was -32C. I didn't notice before the metal in the car started making popping sounds. Weird stuff starts happening at that temperature.

I've noticed that -32C is the temperature at which the engine oil in my generator freezes solid at my place up the bush. That's when I'm glad I switched to a Honda EU2000i. It's light enough to carry it inside and warm it with the woodstove until it will turn over.

That's why most people who live in the country use a block heater.

It also seems to be the temperature at which the trees start to make cracking noises. I wouldn't want to live in the tropics though. I like how fresh, clean and healthy everything is in the spring. 4 seasons rock.

The weather? Freaking cold. Halfway through one of the mildest Februaries on record, we get a real cold snap, -26C with a windchill of -33. Brrr. Time to put the soup pot on.

That country of yours isn't fit for human habitation. You might as well be on Mars!

At least I'm downtown. It has to be considerably worse in Scarberia. There's a reason they call it Scarboro-ugh. Truth in advertising.

Hey Jimbo! What's the good word? Any idea where this current move is going? I thought we'd be going down and sideways a bit longer. Really didn't expect this! How's the weather?

I think we're just still recovering from the panic caused by the Mike Hearn BS. We'd been above $400 for over a month before that crap.

If I had to guess at the ongoing trend, I'd say we're probably going to continue creeping slowly up, at least until the Chinese new year season is done. After that we might see a more significant movement, hopefully up.

Plastic's not edible unless it's a MacDonalds.

Shoe leather's not edible unless it's Montana's, Kelsey's etc.

Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still stuck in the $370s I see. Still fussing over the fork.

Ho hum.

A belated Gung Hey Fat Choy to all. I kinda missed yesterday due to excessive celebration. The world goes on.

Mmm, coffee. Not to fight ennui, but rather to fight a nasty hangover.

Good morning Bitcoinland. Still dithering around $390 I see.

And now another weekend is upon us. Up, down or sideways?

The silly high ask wall on Stamp seems like someone's trying desperately to keep the price from rising. We all know that it could be pulled just in time for a big pump. Or not.

Bitcoin: bleeding since 2015(TM)

What a awful year... and seems to go worse

2015 an awful year?

Perhaps you were thinking of 2014, the only calendar year with a drop in the price of bitcoins.

2015 was actually a pretty good year for Bitcoin. It started around $300 and finished over $430 for an increase of over 40%. Not a bad year at all.
4936  Economy / Speculation / Re: A more precise sentiment poll on: February 01, 2016, 06:35:29 PM
Other than a few coins I keep on mobile devices for spending, the bulk of my coins are safely offline in paper wallets set aside as a retirement fund. I don't trust any government or other corporation to support me when I get old.

Luckily I'm still only in my late 60s so hopefully I won't need to spend or (shudder) sell any for a few years yet.

Of course I keep buying. This is (one of) my nest egg(s). I just don't buy on a regular clockwork basis. I wait until significant dips.
___________

TLDR- Long and still buying.

Good Morning Bitcoinland.

Right back to scuffling over $380 after a short-lived dip down to $360.

We've been pretty much in the $360-$420 range for 2 weeks now, ever since the Mike Hearn crybaby dump.

Will we see any significant movement this weekend?

4938  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 20, 2016, 04:36:45 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

Back up over $400 after 5 days of bargain prices. I hope everyone got some cheap coins.

I could only afford to buy 2 BTC, 1 for $390 on the first dip and another for $370 on the continued drop.

That's still not too bad for the middle of January. Thanks Mike.
4939  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 15, 2016, 04:32:08 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

I finally got my buying opportunity during business hours. Unfortunately it's the middle of January and I could only afford a single coin. Better than no coins I suppose.

Luckily I woke up early and ran right out to buy so I only paid $390. Was that the last chance to buy for less than $400?
4940  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 13, 2016, 01:12:16 AM
Why does this almost always have to happen when it's too late in the day for me to do anything about it.

Maybe I'll be lucky and it will still be below $420 by morning. I'm not holding my breath though. At least the Boxing Day Sale was during business hours.

I hate to miss these tailor-made buying opportunities.
