How secure is something like electrum's word wallet generation vs coinbase 2 day vault + multisig. My inherent risk is institutional failure vs. me deleting wallet, losing keys, or (however unlikely) someone guessing the wallet words? Since talk of the fork I've flip flopped about 8 times for withdrawing or splitting coins. After my recent hardware restoration am a bit more pessimistic...

Nobody is guessing your seed.  It doesn't matter is you take a sledge hammer to your comp.

Perhaps you were thinking of 2014, the only calendar year with a drop in the price of bitcoins.

2015 was actually a pretty good year for Bitcoin. It started around $300 and finished over $430 for an increase of over 40%. Not a bad year at all.

Of course, if you do, you have no assurance that bitaddress.org does not have a copy of your private key. Sure, it is said that the code runs locally. Did you audit it? At that instance?

If you're gonna be paranoid, you better noid harder.

Note: you can download the bitaddress page locally, and run it on an airgapped computer. Not too complex an operation to be sure your funds are safe.
