4921  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: October 24, 2022, 12:12:50 AM
Lakers lose another close one to go to 0-3. Russell Westbrook still shooting terribly and costing them games down the stretch. LeBron put up 31 again on his quest to become the best scorer of all time. The star of the game though was Damian Lillard who got 41 points on 25 shots while carrying his team to a 2 point win over the Lakers. The Lakers really didn’t play bad. Even Westbrook didn’t turn the ball over. If he could just start making some shots they would be so much better…
4922  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Censorship be the end of the Ethereum Network? on: October 23, 2022, 05:46:51 PM
I think that Ethereum going to proof of stake pretty much sealed its fate as far as censorship goes. Most of the blocks being confirmed these days are complaint to whatever standard of processing transactions that the government has set forth. I imagine in time all of the blocks will be, otherwise funds will start being frozen. Ethereum is definitely the biggest target of blockchain regulators at the moment, and I’m sure such censorship will attempt to find its way to Bitcoin in the future. Although I’m sure they’ll try to steer Bitcoin towards PoS first to make their job easier.
4923  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the Mt. Gox coins affect Bitcoin’s price in August? on: October 23, 2022, 05:41:43 PM
So far, I don't believe that Mt.gox is willing to give back that bitcoin, that's a huge amount compared to 7 years ago.

They probably no longer have that choice. It's about law now.
Just, if they are smart enough and can stall it a little more so we're back in a bull market, the amounts given back, although a tiny fraction of the initial bitcoins, will still be big money as fiat.

However, I somehow see all these "Mt.Gox money will flood the market" news mostly in times of uncertainty, hence it's imho more about manipulating the market than actually something happening on Mt.Gox story.

No, things are definitely happening and not just behind the scenes. Emails have been flowing lately and we’re nearing the final stages of a distribution of BTC. They have even enabled PayPal as a potential way to be paid now. I wouldn’t say it’s a tiny fraction of BTC being distributed either. It’s nearly 20%, which is an insane amount of money still. I’m currently a believer that the BTC will be distributed next year, and once it has been distributed the final hurdle will be removed for the next bull run.
4924  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: NVIDIA has reportedly removed LHR from its newest drivers on: October 23, 2022, 05:38:19 PM
Is this confirmed now? I haven’t downloaded the latest drivers to try but I would if this is true. Granted I’m not mining now anyway, but I’m still curious. I wonder if there have been any lawsuits filed against Nvidia for this limiting of their hardware. It seems like some legal guru out there could probably put together a decent class action lawsuit if they were bored enough. Especially now that it’s been (allegedly) unlocked since ETH mining is no longer a thing.
If you bought an LHR video card, then what claims can you have against the video card manufacturer?
The LHR limitation did not affect gaming performance, and the claims do not apply to commercial activities on video cards for home use.

I’m not an attorney, but I imagine there is some sort of claim against a manufacturer that artificially limits their hardware and actively takes steps to keep people from unlocking that additional power. Think about Apple getting sued for slowing down older phones in order to help maintain battery life. This situation doesn’t seem all that far from Apple’s decision. I’ll admit I’m not sure what happened to Apple in that case, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Nvidia didn’t have some legal liability surrounding this issue.
4925  Other / Politics & Society / Re: January 6 was all staged. on: October 23, 2022, 05:34:57 PM
I don’t know if I’d go as far as saying it was staged. However it does appear that someone took advantage of a crowd and a lack of security to incite a mob of mostly harmless individuals and frame it as an attack on the capitol. Ray Epps being the obvious culprit of someone’s plan to create an incident where one would not have been. What makes it a horrible catastrophe is that someone lost their life as a result. We may never know the truth about Ray Epps or who is ultimately responsible, but I too believe the people storming the capitol building were pawns and not the orchestrators of the event.
4926  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Gratitude should be an attitude on: October 23, 2022, 05:31:45 PM
Gratitude is its own reward. People’s attitude typically reflects their own personal happiness. To appreciate others and spread happiness is to be appreciated and happy. A lot of people get angry at things and spread negativity to others that is usually not necessary. Don’t underestimate how infectious happiness can be. Something as simple as a thank you or a smile can go a long way towards making others feel appreciated, which will usually get passed onto the next person. Being happy is free, yet so many people choose to be unhappy instead.
4927  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which Game Have You Won The Most From And How Much In Total? on: October 23, 2022, 04:36:45 PM
I’ve played around with some of the casino style games but I’m not a big fan of them, as it’s always based on a house edge so it’s a situation where the more you play the more likely you are to lose money. Instead I stick with sports betting for the most part. Besides me feeling like I have more control over winning and losing, it also adds the element of watching the game with some added excitement. So I would definitely say that sports betting is where I’ve won the most money.
4928  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Anderson Silva vs Jake paul who you bet on? on: October 23, 2022, 04:30:17 PM
With yesterday’s UFC in the books and Suga Sean getting himself a victory over Yan, it looks like the next big fight for the social media stars is Jake Paul and Anderson Silva. I’ve watched a few of Silvia’s fights and it seems like he isn’t the greatest boxer so I see why Jake’s camp was willing to make this fight. Most of Silvia’s skills are with kicking and submitting, so I think Jake has a better chance than most people are giving him.
4929  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: October 23, 2022, 04:15:18 AM
I’m a little surprised that the 76ers are starting out the season 0-3. Meanwhile the Bucks and Celtics are both undefeated. It’s still early but the Sixers have got to be starting to feel like the Harden move was a bit of a mistake.

Looks like no more nationally televised games until Tuesday when we’ll get to see Zion Williamson and Steph Curry (in different games) back in action on TNT’s doubleheader.
4930  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Heritage Foundation ranks US military as 'weak' for first time on: October 22, 2022, 10:00:24 PM
I don’t know the details of this, but certainly the headline is misleading. There is no way that the US military could be classified as weak. It’s by far the largest military on the planet. I could see how it is unsustainable or how its large size is weakening the United States as a whole. I don’t see any reality where it could be classified as weak in comparison with any other fighting force on the planet.
4931  Economy / Speculation / Re: Cryptocurrency is silent why? on: October 22, 2022, 09:57:00 PM
It seems to me like the price is so stable because there must be a large entity buying up a ton of BTC around $19K. That seems to have created a floor price. There is a lot of retail selling going on and GPU miners are still figuring out a way forward. I would have thought we’d see a price closer to $13K by now, so the market is behaving more strongly than I assumed, which makes sense because the last bubble was also lower than I expected. It seems like things are stabilizing and maturing a bit in the crypto markets.
4932  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UFC Fight Night & Main Event: Sportsbet.io Predictions & discussion on: October 22, 2022, 07:51:56 PM
Decent fight between Yan and O’Malley. They each got some good shots in. At the end of the day thought O’Malley won in a split decision. I sort of thought one of them would be knocked out but O’Malley was too long and Yan didn’t buckle. The fight will make for some good highlights. Now the Suga Show continues and he might get a shot at a title fight.
4933  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: October 22, 2022, 04:46:10 AM
The Denver Nuggets were able to beat the Golden State Warriors. I feel like if there was another couple of minutes left the Warriors would have won though. The impressive thing is that Denver did it without Murray who is joining them for their home opener. I think the Denver Nuggets and New Orleans Pelicans are going to surprise people this year and show that their time is coming. My sleeper picks for the Finals.
4934  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will the Mt. Gox coins affect Bitcoin’s price in August? on: October 22, 2022, 01:58:06 AM
And I guess that we can say today that the price or the Mt. Gox coins didn't put that much dent on the price?

It's already October and almost end of the month and the worst prediction of like $10k-$15k didn't happen as the price is moving on the line of $19k++.

And with that, I will say that indeed the ghost of Mt. Gox is no longer here to us, I know for us still lingers in their memories, but at least now, we can move forward.

Right, there is just minimal effect, everyone is afraid about the timing because of the bear market, but I guess the custodian, Mr Kobayashi knows what to do that's why the price of bitcoin didn't move or falter because of this news although I would say that it might have but not that huge.

The price is still on the sideways and this pattern could be very well go till December.

And so this is a good news for everyone, if the rehab will continue up to the end of the year with no effect, then it's a good indication that we can finally lay to rest the Mt. Gox coins.

No, you’re both horribly wrong. No coins have been distributed yet (see my last posts) so their effect hasn’t been felt yet. People just overreacted to an email thinking they would be distributed a year early. That many coins hitting the market will certainly have an effect, but we’re still a ways away from seeing it happen. The ghost of mtgox is as alive as it ever was and definitely hasn’t been laid to rest.
4935  Economy / Speculation / Re: Terra cofounder Do Kwon is the one who is pumping Bitcoin on: October 21, 2022, 10:36:44 PM
The "bounty hunters" decided to find Do Kwon, 4400 investors who lost funds in Luna created the UST Restoration Group (URG) group in order to find the founder of Terraform Labs, for which they are actively looking for his traces on the Internet.
I wonder if it was really impossible to just find a private detective in order for him to carry out the necessary work professionally.

It seems like you aren’t hearing much about Do Kwon lately since he officially went in the run. Crazy that people are starting to take matters into their own hands. This situation quickly turned into fuel for a Hollywood movie. Now that Do Kwon is running, he better hope he doesn’t ever get caught. It seems like he took a defensible position for himself and turned it into something that’s going to definitely ruin the rest of his life. When this is all over, I’m sure he’ll have a lot of regrets.
4936  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: October 21, 2022, 10:32:24 PM
I didn’t realize how much taller than Petr Yan Sean O’Malley is. Hearing Sean say he’s 5’5” and then seeing Sean tower over them in the matchup makes me think Yan is going to have to rely on takedowns if he wants to win. I’m starting to lean a bit towards O’Malley taking home the W, which is what I’d like to see. Not sure I’d put my money behind that thought, but it does give me some hope that I’ll get the outcome I want to see.
I can say we have the same feelings about Sean O'Malley. I want him to win, but I can't depend my money on him, it's too risky. As I said in the previous post, if he finds a surprise hit thanks to his reach advantage, he can knock down Yan, you never know. But Yan is very durable and will slow Malley down a lot with constant low kicks on his long legs, that's a fact. By the way, I never expected face2face to push him, the tension between them was really high.

I think obviously there are certain advantages to being tall in the UFC or in MMA in general. But I think tall guys face a little more problematic balancing themselves compared to shorter guys. But the taller fighters who can balance themselves and who know what they are doing are simply really good.

Petr Yan will have to fight really well to win this fight. From the general outlook, it feels like Sean O'Malley should win this fight. But it is not going to be so simple. Both fighters have knockout power and Petr Yan is not likely to do well if he realizes on his stand-up. He will have to concentrate on his ground game and that is going to give him a much more chance of winning. I think Petr will try to control the fight and take it to the judge's scorecard.

I agree with you guys for the most part. I’m not confident enough to money behind Sean either, but think his height is a big advantage. I also think if Yan wants to win he’ll have to take it to the ground and think he’ll struggle to land punches on Sean due to Yan’s T-Rex arms. I don’t think the general outlook is that Sean will win though. He’s the underdog and if he wins I think a lot of people will be surprised.
4937  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Bull Market, Is it going to come soon or Will People have to Wait More.. on: October 21, 2022, 07:55:54 PM
The short answer is that you’ll have to wait more. Probably a lot more. As others have stated, Bitcoin is a 4-year cycle beast and we aren’t even halfway to the next peak. So if you’re throwing in some money and hoping to get rich, you’ll probably have to wait 2 or more years before that happens. There’s also no assurance the price won’t keep falling before then, or the next bull run may never even happen. Invest wisely.
4938  Economy / Gambling / Re: What is the best thing to do if this happens on: October 21, 2022, 07:50:15 PM
Assuming you gamble on a mid to high-rated gambling website and you won big but they refuse to pay up, what and what are the legal way to make sure that the platform pays up your money?

I think if you’re gambling with a reputable company then you won’t have this problem. That’s what makes them a reputable company. If for some reason you do have issues, the first thing you need to do is make sure that you didn’t break any rules or do anything illegal. If everything on your end is good and your identity is on file with the casino, then I would first see if you can work the issues out with them. If not, then you can post exactly what happened here and see if the community can be of any help.
4939  Economy / Speculation / Re: What’s going to make Bitcoin turn from a downward to an upward trend? on: October 21, 2022, 05:38:13 AM
I don’t think the market will turn until the mtgox coins are distributed even though history would point to the bottom of this cycle being found in the next month. There is just a lot of unknown hanging over the market at the moment. I believe once the recession has started taking people’s jobs and they’re forced to liquidate their crypto holdings and most everyone who trades has gone short hoping for the gox coins to crash the market, then it will quickly and violently turn to the upside, wiping out shorts in the process.
4940  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you get over a bad loss? on: October 21, 2022, 03:33:51 AM
What's your favorite thing to do when you get a bad loss?

I think the trick isn’t figuring out how to cope with a bad loss, but to not get yourself into a position where you would consider a loss a “bad loss.” Similarly to the saying that you shouldn’t invest what you can’t afford to lose, you shouldn’t gamble amounts that will cause you pain if you lose it. With investing you can at least usually recoup something when you sell, but gambling is a total loss. You need to be careful and remember that it’s about entertainment, not making money.
