Bitcoin: bleeding since 2015(TM)

What a awful year... and seems to go worse

2015 an awful year?

Perhaps you were thinking of 2014, the only calendar year with a drop in the price of bitcoins.

2015 was actually a pretty good year for Bitcoin. It started around $300 and finished over $430 for an increase of over 40%. Not a bad year at all.
4942  Economy / Speculation / Re: A more precise sentiment poll on: February 01, 2016, 06:35:29 PM
Other than a few coins I keep on mobile devices for spending, the bulk of my coins are safely offline in paper wallets set aside as a retirement fund. I don't trust any government or other corporation to support me when I get old.

Luckily I'm still only in my late 60s so hopefully I won't need to spend or (shudder) sell any for a few years yet.

Of course I keep buying. This is (one of) my nest egg(s). I just don't buy on a regular clockwork basis. I wait until significant dips.
___________

TLDR- Long and still buying.

Good Morning Bitcoinland.

Right back to scuffling over $380 after a short-lived dip down to $360.

We've been pretty much in the $360-$420 range for 2 weeks now, ever since the Mike Hearn crybaby dump.

Will we see any significant movement this weekend?

4944  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 20, 2016, 04:36:45 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

Back up over $400 after 5 days of bargain prices. I hope everyone got some cheap coins.

I could only afford to buy 2 BTC, 1 for $390 on the first dip and another for $370 on the continued drop.

That's still not too bad for the middle of January. Thanks Mike.
4945  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 15, 2016, 04:32:08 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

I finally got my buying opportunity during business hours. Unfortunately it's the middle of January and I could only afford a single coin. Better than no coins I suppose.

Luckily I woke up early and ran right out to buy so I only paid $390. Was that the last chance to buy for less than $400?
4946  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 13, 2016, 01:12:16 AM
Why does this almost always have to happen when it's too late in the day for me to do anything about it.

Maybe I'll be lucky and it will still be below $420 by morning. I'm not holding my breath though. At least the Boxing Day Sale was during business hours.

I hate to miss these tailor-made buying opportunities.
4947  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 12, 2016, 05:59:29 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland. Still going sideways I see.

Hasn't been this flat since September. Calm before the storm?

Definitely calls for caffeine.

4948  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 11, 2016, 05:47:08 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland. Survived the weekend without much change I see.

Still hovering around $450. Almost time for the next leg up? It definitely feels closer to $500 than $400 to me.
4949  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 08, 2016, 11:36:08 PM
what happened to the coffee-gasms you used squirt all over the WO thread?

It seemed to piss too many people off so I didn't bother any more.

It was usually all about trying to stay awake when we were going sideways so often people posted GIFs of tumbleweeds.

Coffee is just a crack-of-noon wakeup drink for me anyway. After happy hour it's strictly booze, preferably Guinness Extra Stout.

Hey Jimbo, Any thoughts on how long we'll move sideways now? Also would you care to comment and throw in a few bits regarding core/blocksize/bitpay/coinbase current loggerjam/loggerhead? not sure which its supposed to be with regards to above term lol. Thanks.

I'm curious as well. I can't help but notice he's yet to appreciate Blockstream.

Very suspicious.

I've consciously tried to abstain from the blocksize debate. I don't do coding myself (not since Microsoft Basic on a TRS-80  Smiley) so I have to place my trust in the worldwide Bitcoin "community" to police the open-source code. When I delegate, I try not to interfere.

That said, I see the need for larger blocks with time. I also see people with a political agenda trying to use the debate for their own purposes. I'll leave politics to the politicians.  Cheesy

Blockstream? I don't follow it too closely but I know it's a sidechain technology, as is Ethereum which I don't follow that closely either, although I did attend a meetup just before the launch in which Vitalik Buterin spoke and outlined the advantages of decentralized contracts. Blockchain 2.0 obviously holds great promise but I don't see it as competing with Bitcoin, which has achieved critical mass ahead of any altcoins.

As for how long we'll go sideways this time, my guess is probably for a few days although being the weekend, anything can happen.

Congrats Jimbo!!!

Thanks bro.

Cheap coins  Grin

Yep. Only $450. Anything under $700 could probably be considered cheap.

Remember when $32 was the ATH?  Cool

Edit: With this post I see I finally became Legendary. I was wondering when it was gonna kick in.

I realize it's "random" but it was getting annoying to see people with activity levels under 800 becoming legendary while I was approaching 1000 and still only a Hero.

I guess it really is random. I was wondering if it had anything to do with the fact that I seldom post outside Speculation.

Good AM Bitcoinland. Still holding in the $450s.

Looks like after going up almost $40 in about 24 hours, the market is catching its breath.

Perhaps we'll go sideways for a spell before making a move in either direction. Then again, it's almost the weekend and anything can happen.

No double digits though.  Grin
4954  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 07, 2016, 04:27:43 PM
Good morning Bitcoinland.

Still over $450 I see. All eyes will be on China when they wake up later today.

Personally, I'd love to see another leg up the size of the one that happened last night. With the price hovering around 640 CAD, I'm tantalizingly close to $680, the point at which my original coins will be worth 1000% of what I paid for them.

C'mon Bitcoin. Keep it going.
4955  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 07, 2016, 02:37:13 AM
Well well well. We finally have some movement.

We all knew it was coming. Let's see how far it goes this time.

Good morning Bitcoinland. Still hovering around $430 I see.

It's also been 4 weeks now since we've been under $400. Time to move up another step.
4957  Economy / Speculation / Re: Automated posting on: January 03, 2016, 03:35:46 AM

Remember when GIFs were mostly still images? Nobody even bothers calling them animated GIFs anymore. It's a given.

Oops. Post and link deleted.

A late good morning Bitcoinland.

We had a little volatility overnight I see but we seem to have ended up right back around $430, i.e. about halfway back from the Dec. 26 panic dump.

Sub-$400 seems so long ago doesn't it? Hopefully it's history now. We had lots of time to buy cheap coins. Let's see the price rise.

Overall 2015 was a good year for Bitcoin. We saw capitulation in January, a "live cat bounce" back down in August and a micro-bubble in October/November.

Final result: a net increase of 43% over the course of the year. Not bad.
4959  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 29, 2015, 07:46:32 PM
C'mon. Somebody buy a few thousand coins and get this thing rolling again.

Sub-$450 is getting boring. It was fun as a buying opportunity but it's time to move on.

 Grin
4960  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bear market ended. Now going to $500 on: December 29, 2015, 07:12:23 PM
The bear market has been dead since August, maybe even since the middle of January if you consider the dip after climbing past $300 back to below $200 to be a "live cat bounce".

Yes we had a decent correction in November after shooting up a little too fast and another on Boxing Day, but the bull market continues.

2015 was a year of overall price increase for Bitcoin. 2014 was the only calendar year with a net price decrease in Bitcoin's history.
