4941  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Feds upset That Technology is Making it More Difficult to Spy on People on: July 30, 2014, 03:42:08 PM
The Snowden leaks have moved me to restrict my comms. And I now routinely use software to make it harder to spy on me. If they try harder to violate my civil rights, I will redouble my efforts as well. It is our obligation to resist criminal acts, like the NSA's domestic spy program.
4942  Economy / Economics / Re: How much do you value your credit score? on: July 30, 2014, 03:25:13 PM
I haven't checked in months, but I think I have been able to maintain my "un-scorable" position. For me it is a sort of protest to not participate in the credit market. So many people take on credit without ever doing the math or understanding the crappy terms they are obligating themselves to. They seem to just be interested in getting what they want now.

Just look at the payday loan places. Their adds say things like "your money, to do the things you want, is waiting for you!" WTF? It's not your money, you are signing a preposterously expensive contract that will put you further under water. I prefer to save and wait. When I do buy, there is no B.S. Just a price and a bag of cash that is far less than some financed arrangement that take years to play out.

As far as I'm concerned, cash is king and credit is the court jester.
4943  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2014-07-30] Steve Stockman: New York’s Bitcoin Regulation Could Crush the Indus on: July 30, 2014, 03:01:29 PM
IMO He's right that regulation could severely hurt bitcoin. But it wont go away. I will continue to use it for the rest of my life and, assuming I'm not the only one, it will survive in some way.
4944  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can Bitcoin survive against Solar Flare? on: July 30, 2014, 02:56:43 PM
It may be flawed, But I look at it like this. If the internet goes down then basically bitcoin goes down. That's OK, because BTC is mostly a currency for online transactions. i don't really need it until the network is back up. If the net is down and gone forever, I assume we have far bigger problems than the economy.
4945  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: IS THIS A JOKE?? bitcoins-affected-new-yorks-bitlicense-may-trade-discount on: July 30, 2014, 02:48:14 PM
Such rules may be a disadvantage to traders in NYC, but so what? Their lawmakers did something stupid and they will pay for it by pushing some traders out of the area.
If I were buying from an NYC exchange and had to put up with additional B.S. and regulation, I would want a discounted price.

Nice job killing the golden goose.   Angry
4946  Other / Off-topic / Re: Would you eat this? on: July 30, 2014, 02:06:43 PM
Dear God, no one should eat this.  Lips sealed

You may as well tear it up and shove it directly into your arteries.
4947  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please tell me if my computer will be ok for mining or not on: July 30, 2014, 01:17:00 PM
Unless your computer looks like this...

I would forget about mining. As pictured above, bitcoin mines are now reaching industrial scale.
4948  Other / Politics & Society / Re: NIGERIA, LIBERIA TO SHUT DOWN EBOLA HOSPITALS on: July 29, 2014, 08:14:39 PM

60% mortality rate means you're 4 times more likely to not die.

That makes the virus theoretically 4x more likely to be spread. A 90% mortality rate is ironically a containment benefit.

If you get the treatment early, then there is a 40% chance of survival. But in case the epidemic spreads through the densely populated slums, no one will be there to provide medical treatment and more than 90% of the victims will die. Even now, large numbers of healthcare personnel who are taking care of the Ebola victims are themselves falling ill with the virus. The number of physicians and doctors willing to work with the Ebola patients is limited. Once they get infected with the virus, no one will be there to replace them.
+1
This is important!
The S#!+ really hits the fan when the health pros stop showing up for work. It is already starting to happen at some hospitals.

Have any news sources said this? Those links are to crackpot nonsense sites, not news sites. I see nothing but a claim with no supporting documents. They didn't even seem to know his name, referring to him by his Nom de guerre. What a load of crap.

weren't all Snowden leaks made the same way, without providing any visible evidences ? so far no denial from any part, but let's see maybe things will be cleared out more once this news becomes hot if it ever does

My skepticism is because there is so little detail. It does not say when or where he received training, or for what purpose. It does not even say why they think it is him or how they would know it's him. His name is not Abu-Bakr Al-Bagdadi. That is the name he went by when he was the head of AQI. Which means something like "Abu, the guy from Baghdad".

It also makes no sense. He was likely a cleric from Iraq who became radicalized after the U.S. invasion. Before that he was a complete unknown. Why would he work with us or us with him? He is a religious zealot and they don't bend. It would be a sin against God to have anything to do with the west.

I visit the mid east a lot and these sorts of conspiracy theories abound. Sometimes there is a grain of truth. For example, Osama Bin Laden did receive some training and maybe equipment from the CIA in the 80's. At that time we had a common enemy in the USSR.
Later he became radicalized against the west during the first gulf war.
4951  Other / Off-topic / Re: Anyone reading tarot cards on: July 29, 2014, 05:58:06 PM
Tarot cards don't teach you anything about the future, but you learn a hell of a lot about the human mind. It's the same as reading tea leaves or examining the liver of a freshly killed sacrifice. It is really just people thinking through their problems within a comforting framework.
4952  Other / Politics & Society / Re: NIGERIA, LIBERIA TO SHUT DOWN EBOLA HOSPITALS on: July 29, 2014, 05:49:23 PM
The cruel irony is that Ebola is treatable now, but the idiots don't know and keep believing there is no treatment.
25 days ago I saw the CNN interview of Dr. Peter Piot, the dicoverer of the Ebola virus, and after doing some
superficial research I found that there are several chemicals with good activity in vivo against Ebola, the most
promising being clomiphene (others: toremiphene, chloroquine, amodiaquine, ketotifen, diphenoxylate,
amiodarone, dronedarone, verapamil). I sent an e-mail to CNN about this but nothing happened...
There is a lot of confusion about this. It has been noted that some of the fertility / estrogen control drugs seem to provide some prophylaxis in mice. It may lead to something, but right now there is no specific treatment for ebola. Sadly patients receive only palliative care.

Fingers crossed. Let's hope something can be developed in the next 5-10 years.

Because there isn't any?

4956  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: btc is a currency?do u used btc buy anything?and why? on: July 29, 2014, 05:11:22 PM
I only use it as a currency. In fact I have never sold a bitcoin. I buy them, then spend them when I shop online. Why? Because it is the fastest, safest, and cheapest way to buy anything from anyone, anywhere on the planet.

4958  Economy / Lending / Re: $1000 loan so I can challenge Randi - $500,000 return on: July 29, 2014, 03:57:30 PM
Got Randi's money yet? I thought not.

I like Randi's idea. It is a good counter argument to anyone who believes in super natural B.S. So if you think your psychic or able to move things with your mind, your in luck!! The money is just waiting for you to demonstrate your ability.
Guess how many have been paid.... That's right, zero. Never has anyone been able to show such powers when science is watching. A few have taken the challenge and failed. They give excuses like "the psychic energy is being blocked by"...bla bla bla.
4959  Economy / Speculation / Re: A big dump to $550 can be expected in 24 hours, Don't be the bag-holder! on: July 29, 2014, 03:45:54 PM
I read so many catastrophic predictions here, but someone really knows what he's writing about or it's only for fun?

I think in the case of falling he is doing an entertaining gag. At least I read it for entertainment.  Eventually we will have another crash (there will always be another). When it happens falling will be seen as a guru for a week or so. That's how it works on Wall street anyway.
4960  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The coming EMP attack is sure to take Bitcoin down. on: July 29, 2014, 02:13:27 PM
I love this paranoid Alex Jones type nonsense. It always entertains me. They're just trying to get webhits and sell books and crappy products at the end of the day and there's an endless supply of suckers to suck it up. If something like this effects bitcoin then it'll effect everything else too.
Amen.
People seem unwilling to accept that their lives are little and boring. They always want to be part of some grand cosmic battle with arch villains and secret plans. Alex Jones knows that "giving them what they want" sells.
