4961  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why doesn't the block reward decrease continuously? on: May 07, 2011, 10:00:42 PM
nothing will really happen when the reward halves. Difficulty will drop, and in the end, it's the same $ generated.

Looking at GetNextWorkRequired() nothing seems to link difficulty with reward.
Or you mean half of the miners will just go away ? Smiley

less reward will mean unprofitably for most miners, so they will leave. That will decrease the difficulty, which will bring some miners back.

Person A: download list from an official site
Person A: asks his peers for the IP address
Malicious peer: cannot fake the list of the official site, or change local configuration without authorization.
Person A: cannot go to fake address, cannot donates his money to the Malcious Peer, and can go to see wikileaks

Who runs the official site? How do we go there? Does it have a normal ICANN DNS entry?

Why do we even have peers to ask for an IP address in this scenario? What data are we getting from the peers that we aren't getting from the list? In other words, for a peer to be unable to forge an IP address, we have to already know what the IP address is, so why are we asking them?

I hope to be clear, watch the sketch, give me your opinion.

4967  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [poll] Namecoin TLD on: May 07, 2011, 03:03:22 AM
i like any of the single letter options. it's both more appealing (less to type), and less likely to be a real TLD.

any idea on how to get unconfirmed blocks to show? i've been looking through the source code, but it's super hard to read, and i can't find the part where the block's maturation status is checked.

how about instead of a post requirement, a rep requirement? you need net +5 to rep other people.

$35 for a game that is $50? I suggest lowering your prices, if you want any buyers.
4972  Other / Obsolete (selling) / Re: Crysis 2 on: May 06, 2011, 02:32:52 AM
I think the problem is that #30 BTC is aprox $90 USD. That would be enough for a game and a half.
i just changed the price to 8 BTC. This thread was made a long time ago. Wink

can we have a different irc boostrap channel? right now, it's #bitcoin. change it to something else, like namecoin
Code:
hooks.cpp, line 110:
string CStandardHooks::IrcPrefix()
{
    return "bitcoin";
}

A couple of tips for you:
  • 5850 is the best $/MH card, even better than 6990 (at least where i live), although other cards may have better W/MH.
  • An 3 core CPU is excessive. Just get the cheapest CPU you can get. Mining (with GPU) does not require tons of CPU power
  • Use the cheapest HDD you can get, or even better, run off of a USB :p
  • Find cheaper RAM, 512 mb should be enough

Sorry maybe i am ignorant, but is not simple to edit our etc/hosts config in order to create our domain and share it among people instead to make a cpu eater with crypt and decrypt. Grin
/palm

why use bitcoins? just use a .txt file that you share with your peers!

blockchains is to ensure nothing is tampered with, so someone can't come along and change something.

Before a face palm, why someone goes to change for example a domain

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx marcus

Why someone goes to change marcus to pippo, there is no reason in a cheat like this, i don't think it is important, instead is something useful, for example in order to reach now wikileaks i must write a forgettable address, but thanks that i can write in the hosts, now i can reach wikileaks just wright http://assange  nothing more, all domains com, net, org etc are useless we must be free from icann, but we can also use opendns for other address.
Person A: wants to go to wikileaks.bit
Person A: asks his peers for the IP address
Malicious peer: gives Person A a fake address
Person A: goes to fake address, donates his money to the Malcious Peer, instead of wikileaks

also, I'm having a hard time understanding you. Try to phrase your sentences better.

4978  Economy / Economics / Re: Are we at the point where we HAVE to pay tx fee? on: May 05, 2011, 10:35:24 PM
sorry what does mean unconfirmed transactions, means that there are double payment or lost, i am new.
no it doesn't.

confirmations pretty much mean that it's "protected", because it's in a block.
4979  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Immunity to sit-in-strike extortion by mining unions? on: May 05, 2011, 10:31:34 PM
if many miners stop mining, wouldn't the difficulty drop?
4980  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [announce] Namecoin - a distributed naming system based on Bitcoin on: May 05, 2011, 04:04:53 PM
I'm a bit confused.

I've re-read thread and the github page but couldn't find an answer for this:

When is a domain name definitely tied to a namecoin address?

after ./namecoind name_new  ?
or after ./namecoind name_firstupdate ?

how much does each of those actions cost?

updating is free, i believe.
