4981  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The meme that started it all - "Magic internet money Join Us!" on: September 28, 2020, 01:25:28 PM
What exactly did this meme start? It's just fan art for the /r/Bitcoin subreddit, this meme isn't even known outside of Bitcoin community.

Maybe I'm an OG magic internet money wizard maximalist but nothing will ever come close to the original painting. Nothing.

The original version is clearly superior. Sometimes less is more. While this new version is clearly very well made, it lacks some "hook" that makes the original so memorable. It's just like with any other meme, when someone tries to redraw it in higher quality, it never replaces the original.

It did start from the Bitcoin subreddit from no other than Theymos himself.
Mavenbot, the original artist, responded and here is the first image which I believe possibly is the most hi-res you will get of this original image. Wink
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/18smyy/ideas_for_rbitcoin_ads/c8hmtr2/?context=3

Who made the updated version?
It reminds me of a scene from The Lord of the Rings when Gandalf stood in front of the Balrog at the Bridge of Khazad Dum. I like it very much. Smiley
I was thinking the same thing. LOTR is definitely a great influence in this artist's work but I wish the OP would put the artist's name and source here. I wonder what other work the artist has done and if any more of it is bitcoin related? Man, that would look cool on a shirt don't you think?
Will add links to what I have come across from doing some casual searching to the original post.
It is a quite intriguing story of how this all came about. Smiley

Bayern looks like they are going to lose their match against Hoffenheim. Embarrassed
Right before the match I was looking at the odds and they were 9.60x odds to win the game as Bayern had 1.23x odds.

The rest of the matches left to play are either gonna make or break the winner of this week's competition.
The top three look to be safe before the next four start:
Manchester city
Fenerbahce
Juventus
Barcelona
Those were my selections on straight wins. But they are pointless since I was out at the start of matches done today. Undecided

I am really getting to hate all these VAR handball decisions in injury time.
Looks like swogerino got his exact score with a 1-1 draw with tottenham losing with mourino taking a walk down the tunnel even before the game ended with about a minute left in the rest of injury time.
He was saying "Not this sh*t again!" Roll Eyes

Good thing I went to recheck my picks right before the next match began because it was showing as unlocked for some reason.
I had locked them all unless they automatically unlock 30 minutes before the start time and re-lock itself on it's own 10-15 minutes before the match begins. Undecided

Maybe I'm an OG magic internet money wizard maximalist but nothing will ever come close to the original painting. Nothing.
It was made in simpler times hence the simplistic look of it and it took him all of 5 minutes to do.
No filters or all that nonsense was needed. Smiley

Who made the updated version?
It reminds me of a scene from The Lord of the Rings when Gandalf stood in front of the Balrog at the Bridge of Khazad Dum. I like it very much. Smiley
That I am not sure of but I sure there is a watermark or a tag of some sort so they can see who is trying to copy or manipulate his work.
I think it was (the original one that is) intended to be dumbledore from the Harry Potter books actually not Gandalf the grey->white later on in the L.O.T.R trilogy.
But that is just me. What do I know. The first time I have seen it was on Mk4's profile as his avatar too. Grin

Its about the almighty coin here and not about pseudo religious topics.
http://bitcult.faith/

A lot of entities here favor worshiping the new money god that is bitcoin.
And these entities would like everyone else to follow suit and worship the same.
Such conduct is sin and corruption.
Lo!  Unwittingly as if possessed, I had acted in loyal service of the new money god that is Bitcoin!  ’Twas for that, the Divine Bitcoin lavished me with this compliment as a reward:

Nullius' sole objective is to facilitate the mass adoption of bitcoin.
A reward—and a guiding light, showing me to my true calling.
I ought to work more on this channelling of inerrant divine inspiration:
I. The Basic Laws of Bitcoin
[...]
The god of Bitcoin grants unto you full power over yourself:  No king, no priest, no judge, no senate, and no army can command or countermand your decree over your own bitcoins, as signed with the sacred mark of your private keys.

The god of Bitcoin demands that you take full responsibility for yourself:  For it is a law of Nature and Bitcoin that power and responsibility are as two sides of the same coin.

The god of Bitcoin commands, you shall keep safe your private keys.  An ye lose your private keys, the god of Bitcoin shall curse ye.  An ye let your private keys be stolen, the god of Bitcoin shall bless the thief and curse ye.

The god of Bitcoin demands obedience to the divine Law of Consensus.  The damned who hardfork without consensus are renegades, abjurers of holiness, rapine oath-breakers, frauds, sowers of discord, and traitors, who shall be consigned damnatio memoriae with their chains to eternal poverty within the depths of Tartarus, where all hashes are broken and all bits are made nothing.
[...]
The principal reason why I dropped it was my realization that too many dollar-worshippers seriously accuse Bitcoiners of a “cult mentality”.

The bottom line is that men create gods in their own images; and as societies change, so do their concepts of divinity.
So this is the true manifestation of your one true GOD! ~ The first meme in MSpaint Smiley

And this is his word ~ satoshi's whitepaper:

One in every hotel room, right? Wink
Makes me want to go to church.

Where did this iconic magic internet money meme came from?
A simple request by theymos to post their submission on a 7 year old thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/18smyy/ideas_for_rbitcoin_ads

Transformed into:

I like what bitcoin has transformed into and to a more modern 8k version of it's mspaint days.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/izoto0/never_forget_where_we_came_from

From what I understand by reading all the comments on this reddit from a day ago it's creator: u/mavensbot l33t user. Cool
You can find out from their posts on reddit who the user is on the forums.
I just went to an older post of theirs and came to the conclusion it is this user:

0.05BTC/week is crazy!  Shocked
For combining the score of five matches seems reasonable for a prize and it would bring in more users into the competition if the prizes were bigger. I would imagine is the reasoning behind upping the amount.
Why complain the more the merrier! Grin

Received my prize the other night, thanks BetBTC! Wink

Nope Cheesy
I actually had Cheslea on my freebet to walk away with something this weekend. But as steve said to me while it was still going on with them(WBA) ahead 3-2: the sportsbookies (All of them!) made out with alot because everyone and their mama's bet on a Chelsea win. Sad
With a draw every bet I had including this one which would of had me in contention with the others on the leaderboard.
Congratulations to JanpriX with making it with the others up there.
Three in the top are with seven correctly predicted. So they must of had one of the draws (Lepzig or Chelsea) wrong only because they had one out of the eight played wrong since Eibar was postponed until tomorrow.

Haha, I also guessed that this coin will be promising enough, but seeing the market cap right now, well...
However, is this the biggest shitcoin? because I think that there are so many shitcoins that are more and more dumped and lost down to earth really. Many others have decreased very drastically that makes their holders frustrating. Let's see how some coins in 2017 has very high price and now the price really dumps so highly.
Aise from its shitcoin or not, I fact, the price keeps decreasing. But once more, is it because of the condition of the market today? or really influenced by their statement?
IT is the biggest shitcoin. Have you seen the latest inquest about how much of this LNK has been consistently dumping on to exchanges from one address.
They have determined $258 million usd are in possession and have been dumping since it's inception.
This wallet has recently "released" hundreds of thousands chainlink tokens onto exchanges and was found that the one who was FUDDING because of a short they were holding on an exchange wanted it to be dumped back to $0.50 again.
Follow up on Zeus capital and see what their story into this chainlink saga is all about.
You will see what market manipulation is all about. Undecided

Based seems to be promising project for all this defi nonsense put into one site...

"Based.Money is a project of the Ghouls, a loose consortium of crypto developers, artists, designers and meme makers. Friday night, the outfit will release its newest project since BASED, the rebasing game dropped this summer during the boom of Weird DeFi.
Based.Money is a game that riffs on Ampleforth’s rebasing mechanic, where it makes a daily readjustment in the supply of BASED tokens, adjusting the amount in everyone’s wallet. It’s a game of optimizing for the right time to get in and get out. "

In all fairness to tyKiwanuka I don't think anyone in all of the multimasters site-wide selected Frankfurt to win that game.
But as he had said they are not consistent in their form at all.
But there is still along way to go since Arsenal's game is on Monday so have to wait more than just the weekend to find out who wins with 14 games. Cheesy

Hertha is the first match to be played in this weeks multimaster in a little over 1.5 hours from now.

Everyone has them on their picks to win. So let's all hope they put us a +! going into the weekend's matches! Wink
It's always a good feeling getting that first match under your belt after all. Grin
But then we need to worry about the Eibar match as it had been postponed until Sunday they had it scheduled in the multimasters for today. Undecided

After losing last nights match they are yet again 3-1 and on the brink of elimination.

Todays match I have Team liquid to blank out 100Theives in their CS:go match going on in a couple of minutes.

Btw, stake has a promotion for the tournament games if the team you bet on takes 1st map but ends up losing the match you get your stake back up to $250!
Which is a life saver in these cs:go matches seeing so many underdogs moving thru to the next round.

Yes thank you too.
It does feel like winning the lottery because if I were to place a bet on exact/correct score I think it would be atleast a 50-1 shot to get it right.

Still waiting on BetBTC to send the amount to my account.
I sent the pm to them with my details as soon as the match concluded and they did state they pay out within 12 hours of the final game being played (there was only one) and it had ended 12.5 hours ago.
Just need those to place another bet. Smiley
Will post back when I see the winnings paid out to my balance.

The events for cricket is almost none. There's only one event for cricket betting; win or lose. And after a few minutes of the match starts, chances of odd getting changed is high but you don't allow betting after matches start, I guess you have to work on this.
Moreover, in cricket, you should add more event like score under/over, score under/over in powerplay, score on each over etc. That would be quite attractive for bettor and you could have attracted more gamblers in your site.

Thanks for your suggestion. We will surely take a look at this, and try to improve the cricket offers soon!

Good to know the betting on the nba playoffs competition is back for the remaining games.
Missed alot of chances to win those btc the gracious BetBTC site was offering.
As I had the last score correctly predicted but was removed just like everybody elses did two weeks ago.
Should of had 0.01btc deposited in my betbtc account but wasn't because their account here was locked, thus voiding of all bets just about an hour before the last game had concluded being played.

Don’t worry.

As you know the NBA competition is now re-opened in games&rounds. I’m pretty sure you will be lucky to win at least one more time.

We will be opening more campaigns like this very soon, so keep an eye on our topics  Roll Eyes
