I really don't even know where to ask this but since skein is down about 44% I'm just wondering would it be better if I just solo mined?

I'm currently on zpool but since I'm at about 60GH would solo mining be more profitable - and how would you set it up?
502  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fourth alt coin thread last three got oversized. on: June 11, 2017, 01:48:29 AM
Well Skein profitability just plummeted lol

DGB has fallen like 37% in the last 4 hours.  Could have something to do with it.

That would pretty much match my numbers - my numbers are down 44% today from 2 days ago. Yesterday was down 8%

Monster in the making

504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: If you are thinking of mining... READ THIS! on: June 10, 2017, 04:48:34 AM

Going from zero invested to twenty thousand is not the way to go about it when it comes to mining.

First rig should only be a two card rig. That is easy to expand up to four or five cards.

Many are full out going for it.

Well you know I've dumped in a lot more than that Phil, I'm not saying anyone else should dump 30 or 40 BTC but I have a nice stockpile of coins so I look at it as hedging my investment. I calculated a % of BTC I was willing to reinvest into the market with and that's what I did buy buying all the hardware to start mining.

EBITDA isn't super accurate for crypto mining but it painted a good enough picture that break even point should be reached, and at the end of the day that's all good.

Phil - you get 2 new 1080 Ti's or something, your hash went up about 1.6GH/s Smiley

Pics pics pics!

506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Should I invest in GPU mining? on: June 10, 2017, 02:24:28 AM
everything has risk, but the new mining graphics cards will have 90 day warrentys for a start, making the gaming cards worth  more, mine have 3 year warrentys, amongst over things, they are just talking about removing things and making them cheaper, not 50 times more efficient in hashing.

Also 2013 was light years away, the market was 1.5 billion for all coins, the current market cap is 100 billion, do you really think gpu mining will disappear overnight due to new mining gpus, then you are stupid.

my 5 gtx 1070 generate around 25 dollars a day, so 120 days they have paid for themselves. there is still demand for gaming cards due to vr etc.

Market Cap is irrelevant.  Yes GPU mining will die very likely before the end of this year for those paying more than 10 cents a kw.  The reason being the constant flood of new miners coming online is rapidly increasing the difficulty of all the coins.  If it weren't for the rapidly increasing prices, it would be dead already.  The simple inescapable fact is that gpu mining depends on increasing coin value to sustain profitability.  If prices stop rising, difficulty will still keep increasing for a while, profits will plummet, anyone paying more than 10 cents a kw will be losing money.  Ebay will be flooded with high end video cards so you will be lucky to get back 10 cents on the dollar of what you paid for your rig.

It will happen.  There can be no doubt about it.  Maybe not this month, maybe not next but the current boom times will definitely end.  I think it's optimistic to hope to maintain profitability through to the end of the year, but we might be lucky.  Those who got set up a few months ago, have done very well.  Anyone building a rig now I reckon has at best a 50/50 chance of getting a ROI.

Sweet. I can't wait to get a 1080 Ti for $60.  Roll Eyes

If you don't have any risk tolerance, you have no business investing, no matter what vehicle it may be in.

Just get out, put your money in a mattress and put on your tin foil hat and be merry.

Or, do your research, sack up and do what you need to do.

And just a side note what I'm finding the most difficult to deal with - these dang power supplies!

like 90% of my issues are the PSU's! I thought I had some bad risers, turned out, the SATA cable wasn't powering the riser correctly. Swapped to a different set and it powered up just perfect.

Also finding out, cables from different brands, DO NOT like to work with other PSU's. Rosewell definitely won't even plug into my EVGA's some proprietary plug, then some other plugs not working with Corsair or corsair not working with another. It's been nuts, but it's my fault for not standardizing which is what I will be doing next.

I literally just started dumping BTC into hardware as fast as I could, now that locations are maxing out and things slowing for me just little things I'm noticing.

This is actually why im thinking of switching over to the server PSU route.. but i didnt think about the sata power off of them.. crap..... the server psu setup i ordered only has the 6pin to 6+2 cables and breakout board... i ordered one set just to test out, the price of them is just to hard to beat honestly... now i gotta figure out what to do about the sata power now.. well back to researching

I was thinking about server PSU's as well - The risers I have are the PCIe ones but they are 6pin to SATA; not sure but I think you can use a 6pin to 6pin instead - I haven't hit the search yet since I wasn't really thinking about it till you said that.

@ VoskCoin yes that's pretty much what you have to do, I've been expanding trying to find more space and more power - so IMO if you've got a chance to grab it and it's affordable, do it Smiley

Stox - I'm like the EVGA SC2 and even the FE seems to be running cooler than most my other cards.

And @ Everyone else -

Man running into an issue - I have the electrician coming over later today or tomorrow but I can't decide on the 30A breaker he's installing what plug to go with -

L6-30 so I can connect PDU's is my first choice but they won't be here till next Friday.

I also have 3 APC SMT3000 UPS that can handle 3kW load each, but they run off of 120v and use L5-30 plugs so I will not be able to use them if I run 208v so I guess they'll just stay in hibernation for now

PSA
Newegg has dropped the price on MSI 1080ti to 669 - I bought a bunch of these for 689 - they wouldn't give me the price match though on the cards i bought, only gave me a $60x3 gift card instead of $100x3.

Oh well... I'm still going to buy more.

I am not home at the moment, will check on it later when i get over to my friends house.. its his GPU in his pc that is having the issue...

I have a question are any of yall running your mining rigs on Wifi? i was shopping for parts for future build and just thought about it.. i have nothing but Wifi access to the spare room that the Rig for my parents house is going.. there is solid Wifi signal that speed test D27MB/U30MB..... I hope the Wifi will work for me because it would literally wipe out the ability to put one at my parents house...

Also if any of yall could help me out.. if i am building strictly a mining rig.. what is like the best budget CPU to go with on this? I see Celerons are common on a lot of builds, but im finding prices on Intel i3's to be around the same price or less in some cases.... just trying to learn still on future builds...looking for a solid CPU/Mobo combo for the rig with potential of 6 GPU setup... i seriously doubt ill go 6 1080tis in the 4U case, but my parents house has full 20amp circuits and my step father is telling me the circuit in that room is literally only for that room.. and the only thing on that circuit is a 60watt lamp....so i MAY be able to go up to 6, i am planning to put my 4 Gigabyte cards in it to start with and maybe purchase more to add 1 at a time to see if i can run it all...

I am also thinking of possibly renting a small warehouse space, i found a local small business complex that has 12 x 24 with 9ft roll up doors units for $295/month the person i talked to said the units have 250 amp circuits... the warehouse is layed out so there is like a 12ft block wall between units, so the top of the wall is open so air could circulate across the entire warehouse freely...

DO NOT add them 1 at a time to test the circuit, 1 not reliable and 2 not safe at all - and if you have any spikes you'll trip it as well as constant load will heat the wires and start tripping the breaker in the future. Buy a kill a watt meter so you know how much you're drawing from the actual outlet (wall as you kids say).
514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Operating system to mine with 1070 gtx ? on: June 08, 2017, 04:26:22 PM
EthOS - Decent, well built, once you learn its config, it is simple and convenient. Worth the $39 and comes on SSD, USB or download with them hosting a remote connect link for you to allows access your rig when it is online anywhere.

Win 10 - Pro obviously gives you more things in Windows... but for mining... Home works JUST FINE and I have yet to see a hash difference between Pro and Home and I run both.

Linux Distos - All the same except if you pull a prebuilt image with preloaded tools and drivers etc. That is what EthOS is. Any linux disto works but you will have to go through a lot of setup compared to the two above. If you know Linux, no issue, if not then you are in for a decent learning experience.

Win 7/8/8.1 - All fine, but i have MUCH BETTER stability on Win 10 then I ever had on 7/8. I no longer have any of these in my house, so I can no longer speak to present day hashrates on them.

Bottom line, you will definitely do better starting with an OS you know... do not dive into Linux, spend money on hardware and think you will have a miner up in a day, it won;t happen if you aren't already fluent. If that is the case, Win 10 is simple enough... install Win, update, install GPU driver, DL miner config and start... done. Tweak and set up remote control etc.

100% HONESTY - I like EthOS... but despite all my attempts to tune it, I get more hash from Windows every time. Not all AMD and Nvidia drivers are created equal and while EthOS is trying to use the best known version, I get better results using the Windows drivers.

Tips: I LOVE using Google's Chrome Remote Desktop to maintain my remote miners... easy simple and FREE! Email monitoring is a must so use it!

All good info - i was wondering if you could explain what you do with email monitoring? thanks!

Depending on pool... its either an additional flag you set on your worker at the pool and it will send email if the workers DCs, or pools that mine straight to an address usually have the pass used as your email address, or an extension of the workername where your address goes. Look at Dwarfpool they use this method.

It is for your own piece of mind because you cant be at your miner 24/7.

Ah nice, thanks for explaining - have so far only used NiceHash and Zpool - I don't think either have those options I will look into other pools because you are right, that IS a nice feature for sure!

Thanks again!

Well today i went ahead and ordered parts for the upcoming build.. planning on going the 4U route.. after doing lots of research i have decided that i like the idea of placing the GPU's off the Mobo and space them out some. The only reason i ordered a case to build the future rig into over going open is i am kinda limited on power right now at my condo it seems. i cant get more than 4 x 1080ti's to last on any of my condo circuits.. i have tried every circuit in the house and as soon as all 4 start mining i trip a breaker.. sometimes it takes a few hours, others its immediate.. the electrician i had come out told me i only have 15amp breakers for all my circuits and because so much is shared on each circuit im pushing it when trying to add daily living with mining.. so this future rig is going to be housed at my parents house in the spare room. They agreed i could place a "few" rigs at their house as long as they are neat and out of the way and not cluttering a lot space.. so the best idea i could come up with was placing it inside of a computer case, but after shopping mobo's it just cringed me to think about stacking 4 x 1080tis right on top of each other enclosed in a case, i can see how they would function in a open case design.. but i need this to be neat and out of the way..

So today i bought a few things i seen on sale that caught my attention..
PSU: EVGA 1200 watt  for $259-5%(-$13)=$246.... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KYK1CKI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Case: 4U L4500 for $98.99-5%($4.50)=$94.99....https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0091IZ1ZG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Risers: Typical Risers $49.95-5%($2.50)=$47.45....https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072BMT7CC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

I have not bought mobo or cpu yet because i am really hoping the new risers i ordered will work with my old gaming pc i retired last year. It has an intel i5 3570k on it with a decent gaming motherboard with 1 x M.2, 2 x16, 1 x8, and 4 x1's. I bought risers previously off amazong and i couldnt any of them to boot with my GTX 1080tis sitting on my desk. So i bought some that many mentioned they are using in hopes they work listed above.. I am probably going to start with only 4 x GTX1080ti's in this system if i can get it to boot with the new risers.. otherwise ill be searching for another motherboard to use the i5 cpu with.. I have an old 5 year old 850watt in that rig, but many people think its the PSU causing them to not detect.. so i bought the EVGA above.. I wanted to go the server route, but PM who sells the kits is out of stock on them right now.. so i didnt feel like waiting more than 30 days for that.. plus the evga was on sale...

In regards to OS, idk what to do about that.. i am looking into miner OS's, but i am finding they are all AMD only it seems.. really like the look of EthOS, but the support page list only AMD cards..
This is what caught my attention.. this guy built his rigs using the same case i ordered with the HD section in the front removed.. he claims 69c temps running 7gpu's per case....
<snipped>

how do you connect 7 x VGA cables to EVGA-1300-G2 ?
I think that PSU has only 6 x VGA pcie connector... no?

I was not looking to run 7 GPU's.... if the cables are anything like my current EVGA PSU in my gaming rig, each of the PCIe cables have both 1 (6+2) and 6 pin on each cable, which would allow up to 6 cards...
I was looking to only run 4 on the 4U case if i have power issues at running it.. but after playing around with the gigabyte cards i got recently more.. they are very power efficient once you get them down around 60%tdp.. like im managing to pull 850Mh/s per card still at 60% tdp limits on air.. and wattage draw according to the miner varies from 148-166watts, the only thing keeping them from being pushed more is tight spacing around them plugged directly into the motherboard in my 2nd pc in a mid atx case, the 1st card is sucking the hot air in from the 2nd card, resulting in 11c difference in temps between the cards....  idk if i can push it i pay build a 5 or 6 card setup if i can keep the wattage down to not trip a breaker...

5 would be ~875watts..
6 would be ~1050watts..

One thing i found is the newest EVGA card is extremely limited on MSI afterburner, you can raise values above stock, but you cant lower them and the card we got in the mail is pulling 283watts at stock settings, literally no way to reduce tdp on it...

which evga do you have? i have 2 different ones - (Founders & SC2) but i am able to lower on afterburner and the evga's are actually my best performing and cooling cards - the only cards i didn't buy are 3 slot cards like aurus.

Because of BTC  price so high all my ETH rigs 480s and 470s are selling ETH hash at Nicehash marketplace. On normal days, they mine at Dwarfpool collecting ETH. Other rigs Nanos and 390s are ZEC rigs.

All my 45 AMD rigs are running smos.

All my 9 NVIDIA rigs 1080tis, 1070 and 980ti are on Windows and nvoc Linux.

The rigs on Windows are running Nicehash Windows miners, 5 x Aorus 1080ti and 5 x Zotac 1080ti AMP..... they move from algo to algo depending on highest profitability as per NH rental rates.

nvoc is able to run alexis and skein algo? i have been meaning to test nvoc but haven't gotten around to it

I paid fullzero for some test usb 3.0 sticks  I will be posting results.

@ xleejohnx  I got the m2pcie to pcie adapter  yet to test it.  maybe over the weekend as I will be doing builds.

very cool can't wait - i'm tired of dishing out extra BTC for SSDs - I actually had to use a few 1Tb drives because I ran out of 120's and just wanted to get some more up and running. I need to ebay those 1Tb drives and stop being lazy.

Win+R
services.msc

Scroll down to windows update and disable it.

That was quick. Done and Disabled. Any other Windows 10 quircks I need to know?
Now I just have to make the Riser use the latest installed NVIDIA driver instead of using the wrong one.

I am super noob and super brand new - this isn't my wheelhouse but glad i could help.

i am not using risers yet - but will be -- i read something about using "DDU" to uninstall and reinstall correct drivers? Someone with actual knowledge will have to guide you if you can't find the info yourself - hope that helps somewhat to get you on the right searching path.
