501  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [CLOSED] ASICMiner Prisma 1.4th/s - 1.47 BTC on: December 01, 2014, 03:46:20 PM
So what kind of uptime are people seeing?  After a couple/three weeks here my Prisma is stable with a Pi running Crazy's cgAM for 5-6 days before I have to hard restart everything.  Today when mine crashed (probably due to 20 degree weather, got too cold) I had to warm it up and then do a few cg restarts to get it back to 1.4TH.

Sounds like my experience is pretty normal, but for those of you with a few of these how do you deal with the stability?

They do seem to like being restarted once in a while. I reboot my Pi every 24 hours but haven't figured out the best way to power cycle the Prisma yet, so I'm just doing it manually for now.
I've found that my Prismas don't like to run for much longer than 48-hours in the DC.  I've had to restart them from the rPi three consecutive times now, through Minera.  That said, if you catch them before they cool down, you don't have to restart cgminer as many times before it "catches."

I'm playing with the auto-restart function in Minera--we'll have to wait for it to die again before I can test the settings.

Cheers.

This might seem like a stupid question, but has anyone attempted or even have (2) of those Block Erupter USB to UART Adapters running on a single rPI? are there any addressing issues, or is it even possible?

tia
I attempted that setup yesterday, but found that (in my hour of messing with it) it made clearing the bad responses difficult.  That said, it did recognize them both (0 and 1) and appeared to be trying to send work to both.  I was dealing with other issues as well, so YMMV.

Cheers.

I'll check with AM on your return. On the 2 board issue above, make sure the ambient temp is not to cool. I've experienced an issue on the BE where boards shut down once it got too cold.

yeah when I ran them with my garage door open they would run with 30F air coming in.  but they would not start.  I needed to close the garage door and let the room get warmer for them to start. then open the garage door to prevent over heating.

This appeared to be the solution.  Once I let the boards warm up, they appear to be hashing just fine.  Thanks for the tip, it was dead on.

Cheers.

I'm going to attempt to fire those two boards up again this morning. . They are in a DC,  so the temperature is on the low side. I'll let you know what I find.

So after about a day or two of hashing at 1300-1400GH something happened and now my Prisma only reaches about 1000GH poolside.

I believe one of the boards went out? or isn't hashing for some reason? I didn't make any changes to my system so I'm not sure how to diagnose the problem. PSU is good and everything checks out, boards switches are correct etc. Running CrazyGuy's version of cgAM on a RPi.

The Kill-a-watt meter fluctuates from 950-1200 Watts. Sort of reminds me of my Titan with the failing die. Hopefully that is not the situation. Any ideas on how to trouble shoot?

Disconnect the boards one at a time, or connect the USB adapter to one at a time, and you see if one is not working or working poorly.

1)power it down fully

2)pull power plugs from 3 boards.

3)on the power board make sure the fan is plugged into its jack

4)on the powered board   leave dip switches alone

5)only have the powered board connect directly to you rasp pi or be controller not to the other boards with the 3 pin white cable.

test each board one at a time following the above procedure.
I've lost two out of my eight boards last night around midnight.  There is no visible problem I can find, but when plugged directly into the Pi or the BE controller I get nothing.  On the BE controller I get multiple PwrDn counts, but no hardware errors.  The device doesn't warm up, and the boards heat sinks are cool to the touch!

I've connected the two good units back into the chain, distributed the power appropriately and have my fingers crossed.  I hope AM does something to sort out this issue--they've been good about it in the past; I imagine they are scrambling to figure it out as we speak.

I know this question has been asked before a long time ago, but I can't find it anymore...
Is there a way to automatically let an AntMiner S3 reboot every eg 24 hours?
Thank you!

i have be cotroller and if i will run it with him it's works but you can mining only in few pools :/

It sounds like everything you're doing should work.  Maybe it's time to try using BFGminer 4.10 as a proxy with your BE controller and see how that works.

now i'm waiting for rpi and i will try to have fun with it ;p
PM me when you get your rpi and I'll make sure you have everything you need!

have anyone any idea how to dispose error like that:

It's been suggested that restarting the mining software (repeatedly) will eventually clear those up.  I've found that I have to restart cgminer between 5-10 times before it finally "takes."  I know that's not an amazing solution, but the devices seem to run pretty trouble-free once they're hashing...

Cheers.

nope restarting dosn't help
I notice that you have "BET1" listed as the device.  Are you using more than one USB UART controller on your system?

for a few min i have two of them plug into computer but no mater if it's one or two always this same error :/
That explains the log, then!  Which version of cgminer are you using?

I've noticed some of that too.. but the problem is, how do you run any amount of them in mass like that? Do they employ a team of peeps at the AMHASH1 data center rebooting arrays until they hash? What about a power blip that resets everything? What a headache  Sad
My machines are housed in a DC, so I feel your pain.  I've taken to using the "Mobileminer" APIs to monitor and restart them remotely.  That said, since these devices are likely running cgminer on a rPi, you could use a number of tools that plug into that API set to keep things running.

I imagine we could even scratch together a log monitoring system that would restart cgminer automatically until the errors cleared.  If I get some time this weekend (I won't) I'll work on that....

513  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: November 20, 2014, 03:11:54 PM
I'm assuming there is no issue with stacking S4s? Or would running them vertical (PSU intake side up) be preferable?
They have rack mount ears--they are designed to be mounted in a DC horizontally.

What I meant was stacking them directly on top of each other, without a cabinet supporting the weight of each unit.

Although not the strongest case I've ever seen, I'd be comfortable doing 4 deep so long as the bottom one was well supported.  e.g Sitting on a solid shelf, not front finger mounted support by 6 small screws.  I wouldn't go more than 2 deep if the bottom one was only finger mounted.

Also note they vibrate a bit - so use the rubber feet on the bottom one.
Yeah, my bad--I should have been more clear.  They are designed to be ran horizontally, but you should use shelving to support every two or so.  The ears aren't designed to support the weight of the unit, just to keep them in place in the rack.

Cheers.

I found this article today and thought of you--I know you were thinking about doing something like this come winter.  Now that the cold's here, I'm bringing something to mine bitcoins and keep my feet warm to work tomorrow!

Cheers.

1 question on the new Crazyguy image, what is the default IP? 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x etc?

It is set up with DHCP, so the IP will be assigned by your router. Easiest way to find the rpi is through the hostname,:
priminerapi

This works well on a home router, but if you are on a more complicated network you may need to take the following steps:

1.) Determine what IP range your DHCP server is handing out to the network drop you plan to use.  Do this by plugging in the cable to a laptop/computer and jotting down the IP it assigns you.  This IP will give us the range we need for the next steps (note that the rPi won't use the same IP address when it's plugged into the same cable).

2.) Install an IP scanner tool (I use Angry IP Scanner) and point it to the entire subnet for the IP address you wrote down earlier.  For example, my DHCP server gave me a 10.2.0.34 address, so I'm going to configure Angry IP to scan IP addresses between 10.2.0.1 and 10.2.0.255.

3.) Scan the IP range with Angry IP Scanner before you plug in your Raspberry Pi.  Write down (or screenshot) the output of Angry IP (if there are just a few, write down the last number of each IP).

4.) Plug in your Raspberry Pi.

5.) Scan the IP range again, and compare your first list with your second.  The difference should be* the IP address assigned to your Raspberry Pi.

Hope that helps!

*sometimes machines don't respond quickly enough in your first scan, so you may get back a few different IPs the second time.  Check each one by trying to ssh into them i.e. "ssh pi@xx.xx.xx.xx" until you get connected.  The default password for the pi user is "raspberry"

once you have screwed the top off have your spouse, girlfriend, or someone hold the tube together so you can flip the handles out

I'm going to get my spouse and my girlfriend to help, just to be safe!

Is anyone running crazyguys image on the rpi b+ model?
I'm running CG's image on a RPi B, I don't think it's B+.  Aside from the problem mentioned above, it's ran great for the last 24 hours.

Cheers.

I was up and running fine with my Prisma this morning, until I restarted to miner to update a few pools.  Now it's spitting out "BET0: Unexpected value 00 received" errors (many every second) while it hashes.  Any thought on this--I've seen a couple people with the same issue, but no solid solution yet.

Cheers!

From Settings change from CGminer (ASICMiner Fork) to CGminer (RockMiner Fork) - SAVE & RESTART then change back to CGMiner (ASICMiner Fork) - SAVE & RESTART.

Not sure who mentioned this solution previously but it has been working for me.

Cool, I'll give that a try.  Others have suggested restarting cgminer, so maybe this is one and the same.  I'll report back.

Restarting CGMiner or switching to the CGMiner 4.x (Official) then back wouldn't clear it for me.
Me either--I believe that restarting cgminer until it clears up is the answer, as I'm up and running now after just resetting cgminer a few times.  Maybe six, maybe a few more, I wasn't counting.  I would love to figure this out.  Power cycling the Prisma doesn't seem to clear it, either.

Back up and running for now, we'll see what the clock reaches--it's sitting at 1322 now, but it's been steadily climbing.
It popped back up pretty quick, it's running 1451 now--apparently I just needed to be patient and restart cgminer until it cleared.
