Ah, that makes sense.  See that URL, the power consumption goes up in a hurry - they would have had to put a lot larger PSU into it to handle it.

you cant achieve 0.8V. S4's hardware voltage top limit is 0.75V

The PSU that comes with it cannot support 0.75V. I tried. LOL. Hash board won't power up and you can literally hear the PSU trying... but running like a toy rabbit that is out of juice.

Would it even be able to go to 0.725v or 0.73v Huh

Yes. Mine came default with 0.725v, I've tried 0.73v but chip temp shoot right up. Not suitable for me as I live in sunny Singapore where the seasons are, hot, hotter and hottest....

And for compensation of the lost mining time...

Speaking of which, has anyone actually received compensation in the form of BTC from bitmain?

I did, last week!  For one s4.  It was a nice surprise.  Smiley

How much BTC did you receive from them?

Has anyone else been compensated? I'm still waiting on mine.

It was something around 0.29 BTC for one s4.  Tell me when you get yours.

anyone know where to get fan. Bitmain refuses to send one unless I buy another unit (hostage).
I tried a Delta 120 mm 5500 RPM PWM TFC1212DE but it slows down as the others speed up??

Besides terrible customer service, this S4 is a major screw up. I havew other problems but one at a time. Right now I need to get a Fan.,

If you ever find a compatible fan on the web, tell me. I looked for one on Amazon, eBay, and a lot of sites but it's not like it's obvious. I almost bought the Delta you're talking about... good thing I didn't.

My S4 doesn't want to start hashing if fan1 is not connected or not working. I have to unplug one of my S1's fans and plug it on the S4 to "boot" it, and then unplug it to plug it back on my S1. At first I could just spin the defect fan manually so that the S4 "thinks" it's working... but this trick stopped working. Now my S4 shows 0C on all boards... but it's hashing. Sometimes it shows 80C on one board and then stops hashing.

Not sure I understand the pattern.

Defining LOUD:  (measurements per my iPhone DB app)

Room with a number of computers, including (2) S3s:  60 DB - fairly quiet, no problems hearing people on the phone

Add (1) S4 running at 100MHs:  65 DB - Even with headphones, they better be talking pretty clearly

Running at stock 200MHs:  70 DB - Eh?  What?  Can't hear you.

Would be a great test for noise cancelling headphones with a directional mic.

Edit: Oh.. and I have ear plugs on.. if that tells you something. I feel like I'm working in a data center.

I use one called "Decobel 10th".  Its free, but ad driven.

btw - my electrical room, where I put two GAW Black Widows some time ago, was running 75DB - and that was after I did some minor mods to change the pitch from a whine to a roar.  Put the S4 in there last night.  About 78DB in that room now.

Sounds like the PWM signals are reversed, ie high is low, low is high between the two fans. Either way it doesn't matter, you're temps are so low that its overcooled if anything.

Actually, I think it's more due to the Delta being rated at about 2 x watt and amp usage than the stock S4 fan.

Could be. Although why does it get slower and not just sit at its max current draw?

I think you may be right the amp draw is a big difference on the Delta.

So anyone out there find a replacement. Bitmain is going to leave me hanging seems as usual nowadays.

I'm assuming there is no issue with stacking S4s? Or would running them vertical (PSU intake side up) be preferable?

They have rack mount ears--they are designed to be mounted in a DC horizontally.

Hi, guys.
I have three S4 coupons of $400 each.
I sell them for $200 worth of bitcoins each if you are interested (makes you save $200 by S4).
Validity time is until :
2014-11-30 22:18:00

A page or so back people were offering these coupons for a few dollars until some got tired of reading them and offered them for a single sat.

And then we all got kicked to the digital goods forum where it belongs:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=864352.0

$200 LOL Smiley

So back on topic... moved my box, freaked out when only one blade came fully online with a few chips on each of the other showing up.  Powered down, open the case, and didn't see anything amiss.  Closed it back up, powered it back up, and everything magically appeared!

Had it running back at 200MH stock speed, at 0.72 volts, overnight and noticed just a couple of HW blips, so just nudged it up to 0.725 to see if that makes it 100% clean.

Oh, also discovered the reason the alarm was randomly going off, hashing going to zero, and then recovering...  the multicoinpool I used switched coins!  Disabled the alarm for the nth time.

Vaguely related:  http://www.multicoinpool.org now has a 2048 min. diff port (3321) setup for SHA256 miners like the S3 and S4.  We have noticed the S4 jumping up to 4096 occasionally, but the 2048 min. seems to have addressed the poor performance after a coin switch.  FWIW: that was done per my request - great sysop there!

Cassey

update:  After 90 minutes of runtime, my S4 is running at an 8192 diff on multicoinpool.

Looking at the way the boards are placed, might be a better idea to stack them then vertical.

They have rack mount ears--they are designed to be mounted in a DC horizontally.

What I meant was stacking them directly on top of each other, without a cabinet supporting the weight of each unit.

Although not the strongest case I've ever seen, I'd be comfortable doing 4 deep so long as the bottom one was well supported.  e.g Sitting on a solid shelf, not front finger mounted support by 6 small screws.  I wouldn't go more than 2 deep if the bottom one was only finger mounted.

Also note they vibrate a bit - so use the rubber feet on the bottom one.

Yeah, my bad--I should have been more clear.  They are designed to be ran horizontally, but you should use shelving to support every two or so.  The ears aren't designed to support the weight of the unit, just to keep them in place in the rack.

Cheers.

They're not that heavy, although I wouldn't go more than 4 in a stack. You could probably go more but I wouldn't.
