501  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How can I tell if a cloud mining business is not a scam? on: March 27, 2018, 07:54:18 PM
Pretty much there is a simple rule:

1)  If they offer cloud mining, they will make money, you may or may not.

Look at the fairly recent Kodak farce:  Relabeled S9s, you pay over $3000 (more than the cost of the units), they run them, you get half the PROFIT (so amount made after their electrical cost, if any).  Pretty silly.
502  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BLOKFORGE- Official Canaan Distributor on: March 27, 2018, 07:46:01 PM
[And me.  Not even going to complain about the price drop on the Canaan site - because I can't afford 60 of them!

Ok, got a bit of sleep after an all-nighter.  Let me expand on this a bit:

I WANT BlokForge's prices to be a bit higher than Canaan's site.  Perhaps they get a distributor discount, perhaps significant, perhaps not, but they have to make a profit to stay in business.  Plus, by utilizing them I save the (admittedly small) hassles of working with Customs (Fed-Ex does 98% of that work for me), and they include shipping - something they paid for to get the units from China, and something they pay for to get the units to me.  Nothing is free, so its only expected their prices will be somewhat higher than whatever Canaan is advertising.

Need some coffee...  sorry if that is a bit garbled.
503  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 way around firewall? on: March 27, 2018, 07:18:33 PM
I'm thinking you didn't wait long enough - like 15 minutes - before checking the status.

Its possible your company has a "mostly closed" firewall, but that is somewhat unusual.

That said, stealing electricity from your employer may change your relationship with them.
504  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BLOKFORGE- Official Canaan Distributor on: March 27, 2018, 09:32:20 AM
Schweet!!! Just received an email with my tracking number from Blokforge. Bring on the 841's!!!
Ditto. With any luck I'll have them and the rest Friday

Probably about the same time for me. Arizona to Michigan in a Jiffy!

And me.  Not even going to complain about the price drop on the Canaan site - because I can't afford 60 of them!
505  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 8 official specs released on: March 24, 2018, 07:24:26 PM
around 2%. I have tried but it wasn't really that stable

Fascinating.  Guess I'll stick with my plan to use up my old Raspberry Pis and keep the chains short.  Any idea is the hash loss is caused by under performance of the Pis, or something else?  Just wondering if I should spend the relative pennies and buy faster Pis?
506  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: DragonMint 16TH/S halongmining.com on: March 24, 2018, 07:04:11 PM
If you bought a DragonMint and plug it in, just remember you have no one you can hold accountable if it burns down your farm due to a design defect. No one. Does that bother any one else besides me?

And if I Bitmain S9 burns down my farm here in the USA you really think I could hold a Chinese company accountable?
507  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: S9 or 841 or... on: March 24, 2018, 07:01:42 PM
I ended up ordering (10) 841s from Blokforge and taking advantage of their buy 10, get 1 821 free offer.

Bought (2) L3+s from Bitmain yesterday just to burn my $450 coupons.  I haven't fooled with Litecoin since 2014, and the L3s obsoleted my idle Black Widows when the they came out.  So now I just have to wait a couple of weeks.  Litecoin seems to be a step ahead of Bitcoin in development, so figured I would SLIGHTLY hedge my bets.  By April 24th, I should have (2) Litecoin machines and (122) Bitcoin machines (I did say slightly).  Mostly it just helps keep me from getting bored.   I have one (6) 1070ti GPU machine as well churning on zcash.  Syncing Viacoin, Dogecoin, and Pesetacoin since they can all be merged mined with Litecoin.  Somehow that concept feels like cheating, but what the hell.  It will help keep my mind from stagnating, or at least from stagnating faster.

Regarding a 1 year ROI - I wouldn't bother calculating it.  Personally I like 100 day ROIs but those days are pretty much gone.  In reality, unless you can accurately predict both difficulty change and future coin price, any ROI calculation would just be a guess or otherwise meaningless number.  Cryptocurrency is pure speculation but a lot of fun along the way.
508  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: BLOKFORGE- Official Canaan Distributor on: March 24, 2018, 01:16:59 AM
We are shipping sooner than expected.

Great to hear!  My electric bill has a monthly peak demand component to it, that toggles around the 23rd of each month.

I always find it annoying to have miners ready to turn on and have to wait a week for the new period to start.  Breakeven for me is around 8 days, so here is hoping delivery is closer to the 1st!

That, and of course, I'm anxious to play with my new toys...

ps.  Tonight is the night!  Shortly after midnight I'll be toggling on my last batch of miners.
509  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Monitoring Software for S9's - CGminer Conversion - Minera on: March 24, 2018, 01:10:48 AM
I am under the impression Awesome Miner is free for up to 10 miners.  I find it well worth the fee for managing my 100+.
510  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Please help with PDU recepticles and 208v vs 120v power on: March 24, 2018, 12:51:12 AM
Nope.  Technically they should not be working.  Can't argue why they are.
511  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Need firewall help: which ports can I allow to access miners? on: March 24, 2018, 12:50:13 AM
Listen to Fanatic26.  He speaks the truth.  You do not need to open any ports for your miners to work just fine.
512  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Please help with PDU recepticles and 208v vs 120v power on: March 23, 2018, 12:35:27 AM
Not the best angle, but here is the sticker: https://imgur.com/dGCJrkV.jpg

Looks the same as mine.  Still clueless why your miners are running ok.
513  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [6PH] ckpool.org ZERO FEE SPLNS no registration mining pool on: March 22, 2018, 06:46:25 PM
What do you guys think about joining this pool with 23th/s Bitcoin mining?

Go for it man. Support the smaller pools, with the closer community and support. One of the only pools with 0% fees and transaction fees included.

You get paid more but less often than other larger pools, so if you're ok with that this pool should work well for you.  Cheesy

Downside of a truly zero fee pool is there is no incentive for the operator to run it and pay all the expenses, or to further develop it.
514  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Please help with PDU recepticles and 208v vs 120v power on: March 22, 2018, 06:43:49 PM
Still really confused on why your APW3++s are putting out the required 12V power at 110V input.  Could you link a photo of the label on the side (the one that shows the power specs).
515  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [80+PH] KanoPool kano.is 10 BTC giveaway 🐈 on: March 22, 2018, 05:23:46 PM

I guess I don't receive the coupons?   Are they from Bitmain?  How much are they knocking off and what is price for new S9 with power supply?

How can I get my hands on a few of he coupons?  Is it a 1 per customer type coupon?

Thanks!

They are giving them out to existing customers.  Happy to pass $100 ones onto you as a Kano member bonus (or to anyone else here).  Just PM me your Bitmain account name.
516  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [80+PH] KanoPool kano.is 10 BTC giveaway 🐈 on: March 22, 2018, 05:21:30 PM
And even more coupons spewing out today.  Someone is trying to clear out their inventory for sure.

Think its more like "Lets try and retain some customers"...
517  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Please help with PDU recepticles and 208v vs 120v power on: March 22, 2018, 05:19:27 PM
That makes sense... thanks for the explanation.

I believe that any imbalance would only be felt downstream - at your providers UPS or transformers.  Normally balance between legs is more of a goal than an absolute requirement.
518  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Please help with PDU recepticles and 208v vs 120v power on: March 22, 2018, 04:05:54 AM
Can you do me a favor?  Stick a voltmeter into one of those 110v sockets...

I'm having a problem with the concept of the power strip providing BOTH 110V and 208v at the same time.  My guess is that your 110V sockets are providing 208V...  my guess is that the 110V sockets are just for the convenience of using more common plugs.
519  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: If electricity in my home goes of does it harm my miner? on: March 21, 2018, 11:29:21 PM
Dont know a about avalons but I shut down my s9s and m3s trough ssh, command poweroff. Leave them to cool down and then unplug psu.

And THAT has got to be the absolute safest way!
520  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Please help with PDU recepticles and 208v vs 120v power on: March 21, 2018, 11:22:39 PM
Not likely.  They will run on 110V - but can only produce about 1200 Watts at that voltage.  They require 220 (suspect 208 should be fine) to output their full 1600 watts.

Lets see (run and grab a spare)... ok:

Input: 100-140 VAC - Output:  12V DC 100A max (e.g. 1200 watts)
Input: 200-240 VAC - Output:  12V DC 133A max (e.g. 1596 watts)

So yes, 208 SHOULD be fine, but Bitmain runs a bit loose with their specifications.  Like only a fraction of the power supplies will start at 0C.
