501  Economy / Speculation / Re: Interest in Bitcoin is declining on: December 05, 2014, 10:56:56 PM
Interest is not declining, its that there are not enough new participants with enough new money to hold up the prices.

+1

ASIC production is at an ATH so coins are being minted faster than expected pushing down the price.
Once Bitcoin halves or ASICs hit their technology limits price will shoot up.
It's a waiting game now....

All coin halving's are priced in... You think everyone isn't counting on 2016 to raise the price??? It's sad!

there will be some epic pump and dump action for the halving for sure  Wink
When it dumps most people will hodl like they always do and that's ok too.

Interest is not declining, its that there are not enough new participants with enough new money to hold up the prices.

you people don't get the spin on inflation, do you?
It doesn't matter how much money you pump in, it will always bleed out again.

You'll loose the same percentage no matter what the marketcap is. Only difference: the higher the marketcap the bigger the total losses in Dollar.

So smart money does stay away from longterm investing for now.

Of course average Joe is not interested in holding a coin that performs this bad for so long.

Maybe people would like to use it as a payment system and that's fine but holding large amounts of it for long time doesn't make 100% sense yet if you don't plan to invest for decades.
So in its current form it's just a payment system you can use but it is not a hedge against inflation, a savings tool or store of value in its current form.
So people don't want to hold it because it actually is no store of value or at least not a better one than the USD is.
These speculation bubbles will keep being depressed by the inflation as long as it lasts. Losses to inflation are just higher with a higher cap so actually not even the richest people can afford to pump it.

Bottom line: nobody can afford inflation and the negative feedbackloop it creates has fatal potential (we are in it for many months now - just hope we don't see more large selloffs until the halving). I do see real potential there for a total failure of bitcoin (the unthinkable)

Yes people are interested in the tech and would want to adopt but can't because it doesn't hold value. It is just bleeding and bleeding and bleeding.
Maybe demand picks up for this or that reason but then it just continues to bleed out on all the new investors.

I see most people aren't even able to wrap their head around the issue with that inflation.

The inflation is what makes it very volatile too. So lower inflation would also be the solution to the volatility problem (not my problem but that of merchants)
503  Economy / Speculation / Re: Interest in Bitcoin is declining on: December 05, 2014, 09:41:08 PM
decline is logical because it's inflationary. Now leave everyone alone so they can care about network security. Investors not welcome (yet)

maybe try again in a few years after the long period of stagnation which begins now.

If you have Cinni in mintpal then send me a pm with your log in info so i can verify and it will be included in Cinni 2.0 and not include mintpal's storage addresses.

Your Cinni is money.
It is valuable.
Together can transform Cinni into a leading Cryptocurrency.

what's with cinni lost in the void of the shit-wallet of cinni 1?
I still have coins on the chain i can not access and others just disappeared into nothing. Will i get fancy cinni 2 too?

Gustav , your idea is actually very good:

As far as i know not many VPN providers offer africa located VPN's so this is really easy to do an airdrop for all of africa even without getting ID from people. Just set up a faucet that only gives coins to african IP's and only once per IP. Pretty easy, isn't it?

Check this for instance: http://vpnmaps.com/africa-vpn/ - there are indeed VPNs there too, but probably there just aren't enough and the faucet can be limited to give to a single IP only once a day... so they can't abuse that too much

Another question would be: how to advertise it there. How to let people know.

Another question: how can they exchange it for a currency they can use? Many will want to, but it's either incredibly hard to do from there, or it at least needs to be explained in a very understandable fashion. Maybe on the same website the faucet will be on.

limit to one claim per IP will help distribute better because you probably don't want single people claim as much as they can in short time but would prefer to reach more people in longer time. So i wouldn't even let the same IP claim twice. But then there is still the problem with non-static ip's where people could just restart their router to get new IP. I'm not so techie but i am sure there could be a solution found to get it as fairly distributed as possible.
Would also be possible to make the payout small enough so it won't be an issue if people claim more often.
I don't think the VPN's are a big problem.

how to advertise is the good question. Maybe try to find out what young people in africa like to consume on the net and try to get a report about ZET on those outlets or some kind of webbanners. In africa everything is very cheap. Advertising should be relatively cheap aswell.
I think radio is big there.

How to exchange for them? I have checked localbitcoin.com and there are people buying and selling bitcoin in the capital cities throughout africa.
But why would they exchange these small amounts back? They could just start using it as currency right away (like it is intended). I think all it needs is that SMS-app for old phones and africa is very likely to adopt crypto way faster than any other region would. Good tutorials/introductions for beginners and explanations what it is and how to use and safely store private keys and so on is where it's at. People in africa speak english (or french) too in most regions so all that is really not hard to do. Reaching peoples in cities around africa should really be pretty easy if you have a small budget for ads and a dedicated team that could do these tutorials - which you should both have.

A website with faucet and tutorials and then an intelligent advertisement campaign on pages that are used often by young africans (or popular radioshows) could potentially lead to very fast adoption especially in countries with the high inflation.
As a second step to solve the problem of exchange maybe look for people to work with on the ground - you don't even need to travel there. It is actually business for people to make an exchange service. New jobs would be created. Moneychangers so to speak. I imagine little shops could do that (possibly the internetcafes). Buy and sell btc and zet for a small margin is business for anyone who understands it and runs it. If you look for helping the startups with expertise and maybe a little headstart with a few coins (if affordable and makes sense) i think it can really quickly bloom there.
Possibly offer a helping hand for the first money exchangers on the website and maybe even skype tech-support for them. Since it is business it should be growing almost on its own. Infrastructure can emerge quickly if it is businessopportunity with profit for people which it can be.
It's really almost too easy and effortless.  Wink
All it takes is manage to reach out to the population. News about an airdrop-style initiative will also spread fast because these people tend to communicate more with each other than westerners do. News of free money spread quick among people, no worries.  Cheesy
I think the basic question is: how to effectively reach the (young) people of africa
getting coins in their hands is the smallest issue.

There is no sense in seeking to negotiate deals with banks or institutions. You'd need to go straight to the population imo.

- get the word out
- get it distributed to people
- help the moneychangers to startup
- make it easy to use and accessible for them

Adoption will follow quickly.
For all that to work you don't even need to leave the house with your lazy white asses Wink (little joke, nothing personal)
It's just writing emails and doing phonecalls and of course providing website, techsupport and apps.

506  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2014: The year of the mining bubble on: December 01, 2014, 01:06:47 PM
Stop trying to destroy this currency even more with retarded faster miners... shame on you guys!  Angry

"Faster" miners doesn't affect the emission schedule
They do. Otherwise Jan 2017 would be the halving but it's July 2016. Six month difference.

bitcoin slow difficultyretarget makes it possible to mine more with faster miners.
507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: loss on: December 01, 2014, 12:56:06 PM
Litecoin is a popular coin for trading on pumps and dumps. You will probably be able to get a better price than today if you wait. However Litecoin's development is.. non existent?  It doesn't seem like are doing anything. It's only a matter of time before they are replaced by better tech, of which they are several.

this is fud because a store of value/payment system does not need a lot of work being done on it but it needs a good network and liquid markets. Litecoin has that so it's a more safe investement than these experimental pumped coins the auther of the comment above advertises.
508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: loss on: December 01, 2014, 12:54:00 PM
i'd hold.

They will come back up in a few months i think.
509  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Please help explain this on: December 01, 2014, 11:48:23 AM
coins created effortless out of thin air and centrally sold/distributed are worth a lot less than mined and decentrally distributed coins. With decentral distribution through mining you create a market not with other methods.

I think all these ipo/ico/ito coins will go to zero no matter how innovative they are because the clone of it that is decentrally distributed simply has the more robust market.

Coins with central distribution through ico/ipo/ito/presale are just a flash in the pan.

That's an interesting idea.  If the big bags could get some effective air drop organized in Africa.  They'd need on ground coordinators and would need some sms app ... imagine many Africans have mobile phones but few have smart phones.  Still zet could really be effective as it is cheap (per unit) and fast (send spend).

i don't know if they can do it on the ground. Don't know if the capacities are there. Haven't been in that community since they are really hard to find  Roll Eyes

From the look everyone is pretty lazy.
So the lazy version would be to do it online. There is enough africans in cities with internet connection. An sms-app is a must though. On ground coordination? Let's be realistic: they don't get their lazy white asses to africa but many africans in the bigger cities can be reached via the internet.
Can even be done without the sms-app. What it needs is a faucet that gives out a few coins but only to african IP's. As far as i know not many VPN providers offer africa located VPN's so this is really easy to do an airdrop for all of africa even without getting ID from people. Just set up a faucet that only gives coins to african IP's and only once per IP. Pretty easy, isn't it?

1 to 5 coins per person. Get 10k or 20k donated/collected from the bagholders and you can give out thousands of airdrops. People down there earn in some regions like 30 cent to 1$ a day ... if you give them coins worth 10 cents or 20 cents with a drop it'll be worth for them to care about that.

I mean: before you dump it down to the shitcoins and burry it this is maybe a better way to compensate the weakness of this team.

@ Gustav: I hear ya!! Actually buying Bitcoin has been a primary difficulty for us since Day One. Apart from a coupla hundred bucks we pulled for Christmas presents last year, we have in the vaults every single crypto we have ever bought.

We have struggled and struggled to find ways of independently buying coin -- we're rather isolated: 450 K's from the city.

M

if you're not close to a city it can be a real problem, i can imagine.

@jelks
for me it's a bit harder purchasing btc since i do avoid the banking system alltogether. (I don't like banks and i don't trust them - i'm my own bank) So buying btc is a bit more hassle for me. I am currently more of a hodler because of that Wink
515  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [UNO] Unobtanium Info & Discussion - Current wallet 0.9.5 on: November 30, 2014, 06:38:58 AM

OK, so back to UNO.  Again, assuming a current average 20 TH/s, say a John Doe all of a sudden throws an additional 100 TH/s at UNO mining.  That's way more than 51%.   So what (I think) you're saying is that John Doe owing that huge majority percentage of hashing power is not in and of itself a bad thing, but that if "John Doe" were actually a pseudonym for Dr. Evil, the UNO network might be in danger of some serious hanky-panky.  Do I understand you correctly?

same goes for all pow-coins. Let's not even talk about pos.  Roll Eyes (pos is open for various fatal attacks)

100Th/s would be a serious mining farm though.

Looking to secure the network should be No.1 priority for uno to make sure it can operate reliably at all times.
The more hash the merrier. Wink
Better price helps too.
51% attack is normally not the end of the world but would be uncomfortable for sure. Best is prevention.
Dr. Evil will not be able to spend coins he doesn't own in any case so balances are always safe.

I am looking at getting up to 1 Th/s going for Uno as soon BTC rises a decent bit so i get the contracts for less btc (hope they don't raise the prices then)

(hope it is ok i partly answered a question not directed at me Wink )

how about collecting donations from the community and organising a little airdrop in africa? A little money can go a long way there.
Investors will love to see it
