501  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Mayweather vs Pacquiao - Who are you taking? on: May 02, 2015, 04:44:13 AM
I'm kind of interesting in how this fight will turn out
Pacquiao wishes to retire after this match but he's been busy with his governor job, that said Mayweathers been chickening out of this fight for a heck of a lot time. (Aka really stubborn about that pot)
My best guess is on Pacquiao.

A message from the Bitcointalk.org sponsors:

Sponsored by Private Internet Access, a Bitcoin-accepting VPN.

Just a tip, I used their vpn in the past and they had lots of users abusing their IP`s so its kinda pointless to promote them.

Most are blacklisted IP`s.

Those ads I think are directly from Google Adcense program. They have no control what is displayed.

It's not ads from Google Adsense, it's directly from bitcointalk
And all ads it's directly from bitcointalk

Also, there are many VPN which already accept bitcoin

Since someone brought it up
As Sandy47bt mentioned there are a bunch of VPNS
One of them even had a sig campaign executed recently
https://cryptovpn.me/aff.php?aff=006

That said US users have a variety of options to choose from from private services to attempts to get a privateinternetaccess link to work
There are a bunch out there, could just try a Japan proxy or Canadian one the point is out of the USA IP range.
(Also its just what the forums been using for years it's pretty much the default message)

I'm going to say it's likely to stay in the negatives between Jamphone and eretron at present.
That said if we see a decrease in this round the next one will likely be green since we haven't had a consecutive difficulty decrease in a long time.

It makes sense considering that Nevada is on the crackdown right now
Following the same path as satoshdice did and luckybit avoid the US.
Anyways best of luck with your legal manueveuring.

But I don't think a site which is not operating in USA is going to have any problems. And I don't understand how avoiding players from US is going to help anything?

Bitcoin gambling is illegal in US and sites like coinbase has been heavilly shutting down account that has funds consifiscated from gambling. This is to ensure themselves that no harm will be done to them by the legal regarding this issue. This might be Stunna's concern as well, better safe than sorry

Just to add on that Stunna likely does not want unneccessary legal trouble or warrants seeking arrest like Bryan Micon

507  Economy / Securities / Re: Anything sustainable worth of investing? on: April 30, 2015, 07:43:32 AM
Hey guys,

I post these questions a lot recently on different forums but I ve not been able to receive a satisfactory answer. Has BTC economy really turned into a sea of ponzies and scam?
Is there ANYTHING worth of investing these days? Anything which might provide sustainable dividend, regardless of how low it might be?

Pls do not post cryptodublers, pyramid schemes, 5% per day ROI websites and similar junk. Only verifiable and transparent options pls.

Just Just-Dice in my opinion, I haven't seen a service where there is a non-guaranteed but solid chance of return other than that gambling site, not that their aren't good investments around the problem is that they aren't IPO or fundraising at this time.
In my opinion its a good time to wait or sit in cash/btc while waiting for investment opportunities to spring up.

I presumed you wanted an interest bearing investment in the entire crytocurrency sphere that can then be reconverted back to Bitcoin with a solid chance of a positive return in a future point in time.

Since there wasn't much mentioned in the Bitcoin sphere I think the whole crytocurrency system + conversions seems like a better area to look at and we might get some interesting ideas if anyone has any suggestions.
508  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wrap It Up, bitcoin Is Done on: April 30, 2015, 07:41:09 AM

this is funny, the only difference is that back then there weren't so many trolls(newbie member) like now, all i see in those old thread are hero or legendary members
Maybe a member status should be required to post a new thread in this sub, it would cut down on the troll "Bitcoin is done" post.

Well there is always the thought that there are good newbies among them, but it's these spoiled ones that make the whole rank stink.
Three months later I think the depression is here for the most part price wise, fundamentally still waiting on the stability from merchant adoption and selling to balance out at a price level.
509  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: NYTimes - How Bitcoin is Disrupting Argentina Economy on: April 30, 2015, 07:37:07 AM
BTC isn't disrupting anything, it's saving lives! Argentinians remember what life they had before BTC! It's getting better now. Maybe not for the government, but real people are taking advantage of BTC.

Saw this in the press section as well, I'm glad there are innovations and usage of Bitcoin somewhere in the world to save costs and to show governments that overly excessive taxation can and does leads to evasion.
It will be interesting to see how Bitpay employees are treated seeing as their full name was used, Argentina may not be amused.

Anyways post the relevant Bitcoin-Assets thread and log for evidence if you did take the bet.
Seems like a fun one if you actually have the money to put up.

There was a goat for sale on BitMit.net

Big question is whether it will be delivered frozen Tongue

Na it says its free to pick up in Thailand
If you want the goat delivered to you need a quote and it will come alive
Unless you wanted a bunch of Frozen goat meat, then I guess that would work as a meat shipping service
515  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bottom is in at $215 buying like crazy on: April 30, 2015, 07:03:38 AM
I guess the question is its been bleeding for a long time
The best strategy has been to short
When will the downward trend end and finally reverse is the real question.

to catch a falling knife?  Wink

Well if you caught it at the 800 price your bleeding
If it was at 420 your hand is hurt
280 was a bit of a pinch
215 Makes you wonder though well were almost half of 420 how low can we limbo Smiley
516  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-04-29] New York Times - How Bitcoin is Disrupting Argentina's Economy on: April 30, 2015, 06:36:14 AM
Sounds like this dude works his balls off all the while staying one step ahead of would-be thieves.

You have to give these type of traders props for their mobility to avoid getting robbed, it does sound like a tough job moving around to do trades everyday.

On the other hand at least hes a step ahead of anyone trying to track him, that said it is interesting that his daughter and his son help him with the job but I guess the average salary of an individual in Argentina and the return must make this extra effort worthwhile compared to other jobs as the article mentioned.

Commerce of this sort has proved useful enough to Argentines that Castiglione has made a living buying and selling Bitcoin for the last year and a half. “We are trying to give a service,” he said.

It does show how strict capital controls lead people to avoid them in anyway possible, a loss for the taxation system but in that sense one that proves that if you set your take to high people will make an industry out of it, the underground economy at its finest.

"Had the German client instead sent euros to a bank in Argentina, the musician would have been required to fill out a form to receive payment and, as a result of the country’s currency controls, sacrificed roughly 30 percent of his earnings to change his euros into pesos."

That said I wonder if Bitpay has a Sting Operation from the Argentina government coming, reading the article it seems like this is a big siren in their faces to get them.

The last client to visit the office that Friday was ___ _____ a stout 37-year-old in a neatly cut suit who heads the Argentine offices of the American Bitcoin company BitPay, whose technology enables merchants to accept Bitcoin payments. Like other BitPay employees — there is a staff of six in Buenos Aires — ____ receives his entire salary in Bitcoin and lives outside the traditional financial system. He orders what he can from websites that accept Bitcoin and goes to Castiglione when he needs cash.
517  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why the hell should we care about women in bitcoin space? on: April 30, 2015, 06:25:35 AM
In a sense the media is just trying to poke at bitcoin.

It is important to have women participate in the Bitcoin space just to have an increased userbase not as a pro equality policy though.
That said gender issues are less of a concern than having products and services that can attract male and female users to the ecosystem.
(I guess to be a bit bias we need more shoe stores clothing stores perfume/makeup services and spas taking Bitcoin to attract female users and make them feel fantastic by adding a discount package to it)

Got to attract them and leech them in efficently so they can't just let it go once they get started, aka get them addicted to it and we will see strong female adoption  Wink.
518  Other / Politics & Society / Re: "Killing Jews is Worship that Draws Us Close to Allah" Ads on NYC Buses on: April 30, 2015, 05:53:56 AM

This is quite distasteful
If I saw this advertisment I would not support it, as the message could be presented in a better way.

The message consists of certain obvious propositions:

1. Jihad is a word primarily used to indicate a militant struggle by Muslims, and part of that struggle involves killing Jews.
2. There are people and groups (with lots of ad money) trying to give the false impression that this is not the primary use of the word Jihad.

Can you suggest a better way to present this? Most of the comments I've seen here just want two things: (1) shut up about Jihadis and (2) dead Jews.

Since you asked it doesn't take a partisan ad to get a message sent.

The same message can be done in a less offensive way, perhaps remove the Jihadist picture, remove the reference to Jihad and reframe it as an informational advertisment.

The reason this is controversial in my opinion is because they quoted a radical message to get their own point across, a neutral approach could be just as effective.

Perhaps something along the lines of

"Killing Jews is Worship that draws us close to Allah" Hamas MTV

War is never the answer, fight for a world where we can all worship together in peace.

With a picture of two peoples hands holding an Israeli and Muslim flag holding a globe together

Get a message with a clear point across that doesn't ask for more blood on everyones hands, as the current one implies or leave a bad taste in some peoples mouths, while implying the need for stability and support towards the end goal that is peace.

(The What's yours reference in the ad means sending Israel more weapons and military aid to address the issue instead of trying to find another path towards peace and stability in my opinion)

Although considering what Bibi promised his constituents to get votes, I can see where the Israeli lobby is getting its policy ideas from.
(Pretends not to notice that it's harder to find the related articles on this topic in google related to his twitter tweet it seems to be getting buried)
"The right-wing government is in danger. Arab voters are heading to the polling stations in droves. Left-wing NGOs are bringing them in buses."

____

An update to this topic the New York transit system just passed a political ban because of this one ad and the judges statement.

http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/apr/29/new-york-city-mta-bans-political-ads-hamas-killing-jews

The nation’s largest mass transit system has banned all political advertising on its subways and buses after a judge ruled that a pro-Israel group was allowed to display an advertisement containing the phrase “Killing Jews” on New York City buses.

The resolution passed Wednesday at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s board meeting.

“Advertisements expressing viewpoint messages, regardless of the viewpoint being expressed, would no longer be accepted,” the MTA’s general counsel, Jerome Page, told the committee on Monday.

...

“Hateful speech, with its odious appeal to intolerance, is the incendiary that ignites violence and ultimately destroys free and democratic institutions,” Moerdler said.

But board member Allen Cappelli argued that simply because a couple of “hateful people” have tried to abuse the privilege of free speech doesn’t justify taking that right away from millions of others.

“I am really sad to see management attempting to go down this road,” Cappelli said. “I believe very strongly that the antidote to hateful speech is more free speech.”

New York is following in the footsteps of cities including Los Angeles, Chicago and Philadelphia, which already have banned political ads on public transit, Page said.

519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This D.C. bitcoin company raised $2.3 million to ... mine more bitcoins on: April 30, 2015, 05:46:17 AM
It's a fairly interesting idea if they can mine more than cost.
Add hash to a secure network and raise the difficulty without adding much value to the network besides the miners, is the whole point of the company.
Keep control through their mining presence and get some coins.

In this sense, the system is self-perpetuating. Each transaction of bitcoins must be verified and added to the ledger by bitcoin miners, who are then rewarded for each successful verification. With more bitcoins.
I am surprised that a company in America can mine at a profit, and at such a profit that it is worth investors while to invest.
I wonder if they have some special mining equiptment, or if they have a renewable energy source that means they basically get free electricity.

Otherwise as far as I am aware, ROI is either luck or improbable!

I agree with you, unless the chips are incredible or the electricty costs are very competitive, there is not much ROI at present in the mining sphere
It could translate to profits if the price shifts upward but as we are currently still in a downtrend for Bitcoin prices it seems like a business model and risk hedge that will just bleed.

That said if they were speculating for a Bitcoin Halving in a year this is a good time to enter and mine till that date passes, as it could keep them in a good position for that point in time.
520  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newest Diff thread April 19th to May 1st-Closed for picks!! on: April 30, 2015, 05:40:58 AM
Well according to difficulty its down to -1.78%
So with the oscillations we might see somewhere near 0 it would be fun to see it be exactly 0 in percentage terms haha
