501  Economy / Economics / Re: "I saw my salary on a bottle of perfume today" on: November 17, 2023, 06:34:14 AM
Yeah, you heard me right. Today I was scrolling through some Instagram Reels and I saw a video of a person saying this. I'm still confused. Should I laugh or should I feel sorry for that person? So here's how the whole video goes. The man said and I quote" I saw my salary on a bottle of perfume today. So you are saying that someone out there smells like my salary."

That is life because seeing the amount that many luxury things cost for a middle-class person, it cost a lot. He just sees a perfume that costs his salary, then what of a shoe that costs the monthly salary of almost 5 workers, and the worst case is that these 5 workers are not alone but they have family and they feed well. So in life, what you use for a month is what someone spends for a single item.

Seeing his salary cost a perfume won’t make me feel surprised because I have ever seen a video that I confirmed and found out is true: a roasted fish that cost 5.5 million Naira in Nigeria, so in dollars, this is almost $5,500, so just see what a fish that you will eat costs and imagine the salary of other people.

I bring up this to talk about financial freedom. What is financial freedom to you? Is it about having a certain amount of money that is required to have financial freedom or to have an amount of money which can potentially give you freedom in the future?

To me, financial freedom is not just having all that I need but accumulating a large amount of money and properties to be able to provide for my needs, my friend's needs, my family's needs, and also to provide for the needy (those that are suffering in life and need help in their daily lives, like the poor, who need shelter, food, clothing, adequate healthcare services, and many others). So when I am thinking about getting financial freedom, I always think about what I can also do to provide for others, because seeing myself helping others makes me happy.

. Going to bank was a war zone and so many terrible things occured during that period, police even nearly beat me up trying to get into the bank to collect your own fucking money, Omo, it was not easy many people Starve well well and most of them get millions for bank but the issue be say no way to a access the millions and money.

I could remember that time; it was hell. As early as possible, we are already awake to go to the bank just to get a chance of withdrawing only 20,000 Naira per account. Though it is just time and it has come and passed, now is just history, but to be sincere, we suffered a lot with your own hard-earned money, but you will have no access to it, which made many things happen and many deaths occur due to that cashless policy. Most especially those residing in rural areas are the most affected because I know the health emergency case that happened. It was a pregnant woman who couldn’t give birth due to the position of the baby in her womb, and she needed surgery. She needed some money to buy some surgical instruments, but due to that cashless policy, that is how we lost both the pregnant woman and the unborn baby. Such a great loss happened at that time that made me feel so sad.

But I come see this official release say the new administration don EXTEND THE DEADLINE TILL FURTHER NOTICE so i say make I drop the matter here and many people fit go online see their selves and as we do am make we try relate on our experiences and impact wey this naira swap cause for our great country NIGERIA

To be sincere, this is the best solution. If they are trying to enact a law, they should be considering not only people residing in the urban area but also those residing in the rural area. They will have to understand that some people in the rural area don’t have enough access to many things like banks and others, so it will be hard for them to have smooth access to the change in their money to the new note, but with the time given now, it will be very easy for them to have it because of the time given. They will accumulate the new note with time, which is the best opinion.
503  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I need your contribution and opinion on: November 14, 2023, 04:44:49 AM
I have received a lot of replies I found very useful and educative. It is something I have to take decision on and I have chosen and filtered the rest of options. Investing in Bitcoin for a beginner is suppose to be taken with a well guided steps. This I have learnt and I'll gradually buy with the little I have.

That is the best thing to do, because buying a lot of bitcoin that you can’t afford is not the best option. You have to have enough knowledge and understand the process of investing in bitcoin. Though investing in bitcoin is a simple thing to do, it is not something you should be in haste for but rather a gradual process.

To me, since you are still studying to understand bitcoin, I suggest you still engage in more research and request guidance from experts that will guide you in the process so that you won’t end up losing what you worked for within a short period of time, but with guidance from experts and research, you won't be a victim of such an incident.

Additionally, when investing, make sure you invest the amount you can afford to lose, meaning you should invest your money, not borrow other people's money to invest so that you can accumulate a lot of bitcoin, but invest what you just have and you can lose it without being depressed or in pain.
504  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trade only Bitcoin on: November 13, 2023, 04:16:39 PM
Bitcoin is always safer than ALT coins so trading with bitcoins will have less chance of loss but there are some ALT coins that I don't think would be too bad to invest in. Everything will depend on the trading skills, if you have perfect trading skills then it is possible to make good money by trading in ALT coins.

Actually, trading bitcoin is not that preferably when it comes to trading as usual, and as you can see, the bitcoin market is not pumping when compared to altcoins, so that is why I think trading altcoins will be more profitable than bitcoin, but if we should look at the other side of it, I think it will be safer and less risky, just that we won’t get much profit like trading altcoins. However, higher risk may bring a good outcome, so why won’t we just use bitcoin for long-term investment and then trade altcoins?

Because I know that if there is a skill, a trader will definitely make money. I know that losing in trading is normal and natural, but for sure, if there is a skill, he will make it.
505  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: As e dey hot, MTN clear debt owned by their users on: November 11, 2023, 08:14:39 PM
If you are online in social media, you would have seen that MTN has announced that it was a glitch in the system, and all customers that have seen their debt not reflecting will reflect it after they have resolved the technical problem, so in this case, I see no reason to be happy because you will still pay that money back.
506  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Motivation for Beginners, @Bitcointalk.org Users on: November 11, 2023, 12:47:59 AM

First of all, I have a question for you: from the topic and the content of the topic, is it the same? We know you are a newbie, which doesn’t mean you have experience with bitcoin or not. To me, I will say you are trying to hunt for merit because creating such a thread given your previous story and tagging the post with motivation is very bad. You too, as a newbie, should be sincere. If you encounter something like what you posted as motivation, won’t you think that maybe the forum is meant for jokes? How can you write a different subject that is different from the content of the topic?

And there are some mistakes you are still making in your post that you do check for information from Google Chrome to ask questions about. If you can check Google Chrome and understand what it means, then what is the purpose of you asking the question again?

In short, all I can say about your post is that if you find English hard to convey, why not base it on only your local board that uses Google translators to know what you are trying to understand in the form? From all indications, if I can say you as a beginner, you didn’t read newbies_ read before posting If not, you won’t be here wasting your time and people's time, claiming you knew bitcoin for couple of years ago.
507  Economy / Economics / Re: Being rich = not looking at price tag on: November 10, 2023, 11:00:28 AM
I often read people saying they want to earn enough money so they don't have to look at price tag of product. Imo, even if you are rich you wouldn't want to spend money on things that are not worthy of price being paid.

You wanna look at product and then it's price, if it's worthy of price, you purchase the product.

I can say why people use this word is like a process to express the amount or feelings they want to get the money because to me, if someone says he or she wants to be rich to the extent that he or she will purchase an item without checking the price tag, it is just to express how day will lavish money when day gets rich because lavishing money is never good. In economics, if you are lavish, you will end up facing the consequences because you might end up broke. To avoid that, you need to have a budget even though you are rich.
508  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: November 10, 2023, 05:38:18 AM
I'm sure Erik Ten Hag, who saw Galatasaray play very well in both Bayern matches in the UCL, will prepare very well for that match. If they do not win that match, their chances of getting out of the group will be very low. If Galatasaray wins, one point from the Copenhagen match will be enough. Of course, I think Copenhagen will lose points to Bayern and be defeated. That's why Manchester United must beat Galatasaray.

Two match are difficult, but if they want to have a chance of qualifying they have to win the remaining 2 match. Currently only Munich has confirmed qualification, the other 3 clubs in the group still have many chances to qualify.
But one problem is that Man United have to go to Galatasaray and Munich in the last two games. It seems that this mission is very difficult. It should have been against Copenhagen at that time that they could have won or brought home a point. Ten Hag does not seem to immediately change the game to go deeper and rely on quick counter-attacks.
visiting Galatasaray and Munich makes Manchester United's chances almost non-existent, even though in terms of points it is currently possible for them, but I see realistically that it is almost impossible for Manchester United to achieve victory when visiting Galatasaray and Munich, especially with their performance which is as bad as it is now.
Maybe the only thing Manchester United can pursue is to finish in 3rd place and go to the Europa League.
in the UCL, Man United seems to have no hope anymore, even in the european league it seems like it will be difficult to win the title there, while Sevilla, if they can get 3rd place in the group standings, will also go to the european league and we all know that Sevilla is one of the title holders. survive the european league which will make it difficult for Man United to win the title in the european league.

and on the one hand, it is very difficult to get additional points when playing away against Galatasaray, even though this team has a performance that is slightly superior to MU and to win the title in the EPL, Man United will not be able to compete with other big teams.
here I dont really doubt MU, its just that its a bit difficult to see MU recover from this bad situation before it can be truly consistent.
Exactly my point. Also, Manchester United are week, and to all indications, Manchester United are not going any further because it is very difficult for them to score Galatasaray or even think of getting additional points when playing away with them. If they can score Manchester United at home, how can you think they are going to score away? Manchester United have already gone down; they need to recover.

The match there even has tomorrow I don’t think they have hope for Luton Town because from the previous six match’s Luton Town has 4 wins, 0 walks, and 2 losses, while Manchester United has 1 win, 0 walks, and 5 losses, which everyone knows about, and I can say that Manchester United will definitely lose this match unless a miracle happens to Manchester United.
509  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Mailing list migration on: November 08, 2023, 04:58:57 PM
I go through the link I read to have more experience, and I reach a section where the Linux Foundation has tried to move all mailings from Mailman2 to Mailman3, but they end up giving up due to scalability issues in 2017, which is something that needs to be considered because if we have issues with the scale, I don’t think we will get what we wanted.
Though this link was so educational and I also know more from that pass, I will say a great kudos to o_e_l_e_o for this great educational link.
510  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Hardwork no longer incur success on: November 07, 2023, 11:56:08 PM
You will agree with me that in our present country, It is not the most hard working that is the richest but the most smart working. The hardest labor and jobs are no longer the highest paying jobs, people sit at home and make the total money for a year that just a hard worker and not a smart worker can make.

For sure, I agree with you that smart workers make more money than hard workers. When you discover this, the first thing you have to look out for is, “Why is this thing happening?” The main reason why this is happening is because of the high number of people who engage in the work. For instance, let us take tailoring as a case study. The number of tailors in Nigeria now is so large that almost everyone knows not less than five different tailors around their location. You know, all of them can sew clothes, which means they are hardworking, but inside them there will be someone who will create a good fashion design that no one else inside the tailors can do unless they are taught, so from there that single tailor has made a smart move that he will get more money than others. The solution here is that whatever work you are doing, you should make sure you are creative so that you can be smarter than others doing the same work with you.

Quote
Life expectancy for Nigerians dey short because of bad health care and poor environment, we nor need to add stress to am, make we for nor go die quick. While we dey try to make money, we gats focus majorly on finding smartways to make money, not just depending on harwork, Hardwork alone no longer incurs success.

To me, life expectancy depends on your location of settlement, and I don’t think it contributes to your topic. Life expectancy means, in short, your access to those things that will make your life more safe and healthy, like an adequate water supply, a good road, adequate health care providers, the availability of light, and many others that can ensure adequate safety and standard in your life. So with this small definition, I can say that if you work smart, you can have money in rapid flow and have access to all these things.

Quote
Some examples of smart ways to make money are;
be social and make good friends who you can grow with. The information you have can determine if you will have money or not, try get friends wey una dey talk better things like how to make more money.
Do your research then invest in where others dey invest. People dey invest in bitcoins, invest in bitcoins.

Share some other smart ways to make money.

Yes, keeping friends that are ready to look for more is a good option because any time you hang around, they will just be discussing where to invest so that their money can be multiplied, so if you stay around with them, you will have more experience and knowledge about making money. Also, I will suggest involving yourself in many online activities, like creating content and advertising content on various social media. All you need is to be creative, and you will get paid, so I will say creativity works with smartness, and that is what we need to succeed in Nigeria.

512  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcointalk and reflinks: don't produce refspam, please on: November 07, 2023, 02:03:56 PM
When dealing with cryptocurrencies you'll hear about so-called reflinks very soon. Reflinks, often also known as referral links or affiliate links, are customized links leading to a page where you can register to use a service. It’s possible to receive your own reflink from the website of the service, if you are logged in to your account. If you are sharing your reflink now, other users click on it, and then sign in to this service, the person whose reflink was used (you) will get a small commission for referring this new user.
Reflinks are different from normal links where the person sharing the reflink receives a small commission and reflinks are usually also visible in the link, often the link contains an individual letter / number combination or an username.

Therefore, reflinks are very popular, because the "owner" of the reflinks can earn a bit by sharing it. Unfortunately, this fact often results to so-called "Refspam" that reflinks are posted everywhere to get users who sign up via this reflink. Because of this, Bitcointalk has a rule to prevent "ref-spam":

4. No referral code (ref link) spam.
Source: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ

If you post reflinks, your posts will be deleted, and if someone is systematically repeating refspam posts, it may even end up in a (temporary) ban.
Therefore, you should always be careful and avoid posting reflinks.
There are some exceptions, where reflinks could be tolerated like if you are including it in a very informative reply / description which adds value, a site owner who wants to track traffic coming from Bitcointalk or similar where it's very clear that it's no ref-spam.

When in doubt you should avoid getting troube, better follow the rules and use legal ways how you can use reflinks in Bitcointalk:

1.) Reflinks in your signature

It is allowed to use reflinks in your own signature. In order to be able to wear a signature, your account has to be at least Jr. Member. But it’s not possible to click the links in signatures of Jr. Members, other users would have to copy them in the URL by themselves. In signatures of Member accounts and above, it’s possible click on links in their signatures.

It’s described in 2.) how to change your personal signature.

2.) Use reflinks as a website in your profile

Reflinks can also be linked in your own profile page and then referenced in a post. Linking a reflink in your own profile page works as following:
Choose Profile in your profile => Forum Profile Information and there you can insert your reflink at Website URL. If you like, you can select a name at Website title, which will be displayed in your profile in Website.

In Profile => Forum Profile Information you’ll find also the option to change your personal signature.

In a normal post on the forum you can point out that you have a link in your profile at "Website". It will look like that:

3. Refliks in your personal text

It's also possible to post your referral link as personal text. You can find it in your account settings, described by sheenshane here. It should work if your link is not too long because your personal text is limited and you can only use a limited number of characters.

Thanks to hugeblack for suggesting this.

I hope this little guide will help for you to avoid misunderstandings if you are honestly sharing your reflink.
But please, don’t spam reflinks in normal posts, better use the strategies described above. Refspam is annoying and not allowed. And if you are abusing these strategies to produce sigspam / spam to refer to your reflink in your profile you’ll also get a problem. Better be careful  Smiley

You have a valid point I am a newbie and I thought this community is basically for us to learn about Bitcoin and other relevant matters which would fetch us money, and broaden our knowledge, for me I really want to know more because I am not too conversant Bitcoin, and with the way some post are going I may end up knowing nothing at all, so please those ahead of us should help put us through and also find a solution or more restrictive method to curb the over growing of irrelevant posts.

Thank you

Yes, this board has been created for other members of the forum that are from Nigeria, most especially those that are finding English hard to understand. If you are asking for knowledge, from research you can get that because if you go back to your first topic in the forum,  when you introduce yourself, there are many educational links that have been shared with you in order for you to understand and know many things about bitcoin.
So to me, if you can engage in adequate research, you will have great knowledge in which you will be ready to teach others because if you base it on just the local board, you won’t have enough adequate knowledge. What you need is not that in this local board there is not a good adequate topic in which you can have knowledge, but when you engage in other boards, you will have more knowledge of understanding. I will suggest beginners and help and bitcoin discussion for you to have more knowledge for knowing.

517  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you ever been a gambling addict? on: November 06, 2023, 10:44:38 AM
To be honest in the past I have spent a lot of money gambling. What I mean here is that I spent all my savings on gambling. Maybe the nominal amount is not that big but it makes me feel like a gambling addict. I spent 5 months of my savings on gambling. Currently I am aware and am in the stage of improving my own financial condition. Have you ever felt like a gambling addict? and how much did you lose in gambling?

Spending all your savings on gambling doesn’t mean you are addicted to gambling. We classify someone as an addicted gambler when he can’t do without placing a bet every day. This kind of person must gamble even if they don’t have money. They will go and take a loan just to gamblers because that is where they derive their pleasure from. So you spend your savings on gambling, maybe not in one week, a day, or even a month, and since you realise that what you did was a mistake, you can see that you yourself know that you are not addicted. Someone who has already been addicted won't think of that; he always thinks that he is doing well since that is what he does to make him happy.
518  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fund for Bitcoin promotion on: November 06, 2023, 10:09:34 AM
Is there some group which collects funds for Bitcoin promotion? If some group like this can create advertisements for Bitcoin, more people can become aware. Such mediums should be targeted which have reach on audience that is still not familiar with crypto.

If you are sitting in one place and someone comes and meets you, there is a group in which people pay and they advertise bitcoin. Are you going to believe such a person as someone who holds this type of position in the bitcoin community? Because I can see that you are now a full member rank in this forum, which obviously means you know the answer to your question. However, bitcoin has already gained awareness, so how can you advertise a currency that is for transactions and an asset for investment? I think for you to be in this forum in this position, you need to be aware of this kind of thing that bitcoin doesn’t need to advertise.

However, people advertise what they know about for such things to gain recognition. What about bitcoin? That is already past that level of recognition; millions of people are already using bitcoin, so I don’t think such things exist.
519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What I did just to invest in Bitcoin. on: November 05, 2023, 11:01:52 PM
About one or two months ago I created my first thread about my regrets for not not getting into bitcoin on time when I was first introduced to it by my friend many years ago.
And how I have made a decision to start my bitcoin journey because I now realized I made the biggest mistake of my life back then. Before my very eyes I have seen bitcoin turn the life of people around and gave them financial freedom.
I must say the truth since I made that first post I didn't just feel relaxed. Firstly I went ahead to read the bitcoin whitepaper to have a full knowledge about what bitcoin was all about. And I was glad I read that whitepaper. After that I took some drastic actions to make my first bitcoin investment. I did something which is making everyone around angry and he complaining bitterly about that. I sold our family land and used the money to invest on bitcoin. Initially I told them I want to sell the land and use the money to travel abroad. If I had told them I wanted to invest it in bitcoin they wouldn't have allowed me sell the land. I have tried educating them about bitcoin but they were not just interested to listen to me as they are all illiterates. Now the truth has finally come out and everyone is on my neck to get back the money. I told told them I invested the money, they thought I have spent the money on women and other things. I have been abused several times but I don't care because I know the money is safe and never lost. I understand that in everything good there must be some challenges and set backs. My resolution to invest in bitcoin is final and there is nothing anybody can do about it.

This is the worst decision I see someone make for a long period of time just to invest in bitcoin. When making decisions, didn’t you think that the land you sold with the name of travelling abroad is not your land but what belongs to your family? What where you think? All I can say to you is that the decision you took was so childish because you used the opportunity of your family's illiteracy just to invest in bitcoin, whereas in bitcoin, you normally invest what you can afford to lose, not by selling the family property just to invest.
