There is no bubble in gold.
It might slid off a big these coming weeks, but that is due to the massive 16% increase this month.
Gold is definitely headed over $2000 long term.

Well there has been in history. If you look at it from a more realistic perspective (e.g. elements and their physical nature) sure fiat money is worthless paper but since when should an oz of shiny metal be enough to buy a house and its land?

502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [IDEA] Australian Bitcoin Conference/Expo on: August 23, 2011, 02:03:31 PM
Yes I would like to go. I don't understand why you are suggesting a bus pickup from Perth though. That's an insanely long drive. i'd much rather fly.
Probably just organise the conference and let people organise their transportation. Maybe have it somewhere near accommodation so it could be a a couples of days of conference and a couple of nights of going out reveling.

As much as we're going to continue seeing hyperinflation making the world fiat money useless I think that there is a bubble in gold that will burst at some point. This is the perfect opportunity for cryptocurrencies to take the lead with the simultaneous bursting of both gold and fiat bubbles.
504  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solidcoin's Coin Maximum to be Reached within 6 mo. to 2 yr. on: August 23, 2011, 01:27:53 PM

No it's not bitcoin, it's technically better.

Well lets not go and nuts but I am very impressed and thank you for the opportunity solidcoin has given me.

Thanks for the compliment. Smiley

You're welcome.

To be fair you would be a very high volume customer to be spending 60g and I think you would get a reduced unit price.
I have some 300w Tt heatpipe fanless PSU's that would be prefect for this and they don't need a motherboard, cpu, RAM so you are saving money there. They could also be used to help keep alternate blockchains ticking over and for people in countries with high electricity costs. I will be looking into ordering one soon.

You can the  also consider that the rate of inflation in fiat money is only getting faster and that few lousy grand you dropped on some FPGAs is nothing will be quickly forgotten and you will break even before you know it.
506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solidcoin's Coin Maximum to be Reached within 6 mo. to 2 yr. on: August 23, 2011, 12:46:53 PM
Yeah I just logged in and checked the prices and its doing very well. Sure solidcoin is not bitcoin but it's not ix/i0 coin either and some of its changes e.g. the difficulty adjustment are quite revolutionary. A lot of people have been quite critical of you Coinhunter but I just would like to express my gratitude on by far the most successful fork yet perhaps only rivaled by namecoin. I see solidcoin succeeding where others have tried and failed. I am glad I didn't sell when the other miners dumped their coins but this was good because it gave the others that missed out a chance to buy in at an early time. I could have sold and bought back cheaper but from what I have learned with bitcoin its "time in the market not how you time the market". I'm sure there will be another dump after the big miners grab their bitcoins but I might come in and grab some more solidcoins myself.

I did have some initial problems getting the Linux client going, and that may explain some the fairly small number of early adopters compared to the last two forks, but I soon had it compiled from source and up and mining  with a little help from this forum and your FAQ.

Overall very well done and congratulations on successful launch and I look forward to greater prosperity in the future.

507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Seriously guys, why? on: August 23, 2011, 07:06:36 AM

The thought of completely retiring on a mere $4m is downright horrible to me. I'd feel like I'd completely 'given up'.

I guess people just have different expectations, but if I only made 20k per year in interest I'd feel like a loser who didn't really even try to make it big.

$40m is getting there, but really total RETIREMENT? Depends how you value time/money now I suppose.

$4m doesn't even pay for half a jet.

I think we've gone off topic here. BTW it's only fiat money. I hope to avoid retirement by avoiding aging. Project In Utero is going to be my plan.

The other thing is I want to see into the idea of mining cryptocurrencies in space with the mining done on satellites that use space based solar power SBSP for an energy source or using a throium reactor on the moon or mars. They might get a lot of stales if they are trying to mine bitcoins on earth so they could start a new block chain and then trade those coins with us for bitcoins. They could even be used to back a fiat currency which we then float on forex markets and kind of start a space based monetary fund using sol as our central bank.

I think I'm just going to open a bottled air business.  Want to buy Hawaii air?  New Zealand air?  Stinky Guam air?  I'm your guy.

get me an honest bottle of Martian air and we'll talk

hahahaha so if I mine for haven't gotten laid since 2009 coin what happens if I break the drought do my coins become worthless?

other than that "Seriously guys, why all the forks?" "why?, please stop guys, this is just not cool now, i'm not playing anymore, mum please tell them not to make any more forks waahhh"

Well at the moment its more profitable to mine BTC and buy solidcoin but tomorrow the reverse will be true again.
512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] SolidCoin - new and improved block chain. Secure from pools on: August 22, 2011, 03:43:43 PM
Any ideas why I can't mine SC with cgminer?

Solo or pool?

I was mining fine... maybe you need to have the rpc port and -server switch to your solidcoin.conf as specified in the FAQ?

Bitcoins are a awesome power tool against banks and govs.
It is very possible that in one form or another the US government is behind this project. Bitcoin is not designed as a tool against banks. It can not serve as POS money. Bitcoin is designed to be the digital equivalent of gold because the US government gold was used to back IMF and World Bank interventions during last 15 years.

Are you suggesting CIA?
No.

I don't think the government is capable of that kind of innovation.
514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: why Freicoin won't work on: August 22, 2011, 01:46:04 PM
As explained many times:

1) You can save in many ways, not only hoarding the medium of exchange: investing, lending, hoarding real goods, paying in advance...

2) demurrage is not the same thing as inflation, their effects are different:
 A) Inlflation is an accounting inconvenience. If you think that is not important, just think that the prices must grow exponentially and the period for a given product to increase one unit in price will become shorter and shorter with time. Eventually it will become shorter than a second
 B) Demurrage lowers real interest rates while inflation only rises nominal interest rates

Computer hardware gets cheaper though. How much storage can a gram of gold buy today as opposed to ten years ago?

would we call this "qubitcoin"?
517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] SolidCoin - new and improved block chain. Secure from pools on: August 22, 2011, 09:59:46 AM
I am now mining on bitparking using cgminer difficulty is 1596.31273430

sorry for coming in late guys.

I learned some neat day trading tricks and dynamics with the solidcoin float though.
519  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: August 22, 2011, 05:51:21 AM
It is like trading gold for rocks. If enough idiots want to trade gold for rocks then its more profitable to mine rocks.
520  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] SolidCoin - new and improved block chain. Secure from pools on: August 22, 2011, 12:48:29 AM
I just thought. All the large miners and the pools could collude to shutdown at the sametime.
