5001  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Legal Tender in Panama on: April 30, 2022, 10:00:10 AM
But I am only playing the guessing game here.

Some things are clearer considering the posts that shed light on some things, but sometimes it is not easy to figure out how the laws are formulated and what exactly they refer to. Panama is definitely a very interesting case and an environment in which Bitcoin will be in a position to show what it can offer in relation to fiat currencies.

One thing, we had three countries to date, none of them had actually their own free floating currency, interesting pattern.

For me quite expected, because if you do not have your own national currency, it is very easy to add Bitcoin as one of the options. However, I emphasize as one of the options - because Bitcoin is only an alternative, even in the ES, which imposes it as a legal tender, but with the choice of everyone to use the USD.

LE:
And of course, the price keeps dropping, the first time I was checking it today and as usual, again down -2,74% last 24h, I'm starting to wonder if we might need some country to ban bitcoin in order for it to go up!

I wouldn't say that this kind of news is not good, but people have realized that it is no longer something that can move the market in a positive direction. On the other hand, a war that could escalate into anything more than a conflict between the two countries at any moment, and unstoppably rising inflation certainly affect the way investors think when it comes to investing in Bitcoin.
5002  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some annoying things that beginners do (but also some old members) on: April 30, 2022, 09:36:07 AM
Not using punctuation

I agree with that, but spelling and punctuation are still another category that we can hardly influence, especially if we take into account that a good part of the members come from a non-English speaking area. It is quite easy to show someone how to reduce the image to an appropriate size or how to properly quote post, while not using punctuation is not something we can influence.

When I saw the title I thought I would see something about necroposts.

It has happened to me several times, but everyone can have their moment of inattention and overlook the date - it is important that this does not happen often Wink

Can I add "not using the search option before posting" to the mix?"
Reading through the same update on trending issues twice or having to read through a similar kind of post about merits, how to get them or some other generic stuff can be off puting to most.

In the context of what @Fivestar4everMVP mentioned in his post, I agree that everyone should use the search option of the forum or even some search engines outside the forum (because it can be a much faster way to search). However, I would point out that in some cases it is better to open a new thread than to bump a couple of years old - although of course it depends on whether someone got an answer to their question by reading an old thread, or still needs extra help.

Using the search option is far better applicable to current topics that are duplicated in different boards - just look at the Bitcoin discussion and Economics and you will understand what I am talking about.

Allow me to add giving merit advice when they haven’t gotten any

This is an interesting thing and I admit that it is a bit strange that someone who has just come to the forum gives advice on how to get merits - but people use all sorts of tactics in an effort to get it.

An interesting post history combo, bounty section and wall observer thread. That guy is probably sharing images there as a way to fish the merit but seems like he is not particulary successful so far.

He is the last in a series that has been annoying WO members lately, one has been permabanned (he has a thread in Meta), and some have calmed down a bit at the moment because they realized that instead of merits there are other "awards".

I always thought its more of a laziness issue and lack of posting etiquette rather than an attempt for post to look more "substantial".

Laziness and ignorance of how to properly use quote are certainly part of it, but a lot of those who participate in signature campaigns obviously think that their one or two line posts look better if they add a wall of text in front of them.

I will answer some other posts in the next post, because no matter how hard I tried to make the post readable - too long posts are not something that most people appreciate Wink
5003  Other / Beginners & Help / Some annoying things that beginners do (but also some old members) on: April 29, 2022, 04:19:24 PM
Given that there are a lot of beginners who have obviously never used the forum, or used it in the wrong way - I would like to warn them of some things that are not strictly against the rules of the forum, but are quite irritating and definitely reduce your contribution to the forum, regardless of your good intentions. Some members will ignore you for this, others may report you to moderator - but you can change all that if you apply the tips below.

Posting images to the forum

There's nothing wrong with that, sometimes a picture speaks more than a thousand words and we all love to see an interesting photo - but the thing is that some really overdo it with sizes that are inappropriate for the forum. It should be taken into account that some users of this forum have limited data internet traffic or very slow internet, which in combination with browsing the forum on smartphones can be quite frustrating. As an example, look at what the post history of one of our artists looks like. (archived)

The solution is very simple and consists of simply placing a link of your image in this code, and adjusting the width + check by clicking on the preview how the image looks.

Code:
[img width=200]your link here[/img]

Using the quote option

Another thing that we all use more or less and that makes it easier for us to communicate on the forum. The problem is that some members abuse this option to make their posts look longer and more meaningful, when in fact they make them completely uninteresting. Quote exists for a reason, and if you want to refer to someone's post or part of a post, simply click on "quote" when you are in the menu for writing a post and then edit the post (delete the part you don't need). You can also use more than one quote in your post by simply scrolling and selecting the post you want to respond to.

Examples of how this should not look : 1 2

Posting multiple posts in a row

This is actually something that is against the rules of the forum, and I noticed that some older members are still making that beginner's mistake. As I explained above, you can reply to multiple posts in one post by adding multiple quote posts, or simply address each member by their name.

If you see posts that have a moderator note printed in red font then it means that the moderator has merged the posts. If we use the forum correctly, there will be less work for moderators.
5004  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Roger Ver resurfaces on Twitter, backs doge and bitcoin cash on: April 29, 2022, 02:52:58 PM
It was just a question of when this Judas will appear after Faketoshi made small waves with his interview - so this board becomes the place where we discuss Faketoshi, Roger Ver Judas or Mr. Mars? All of them are completely irrelevant to Bitcoin, and as far as I'm concerned, they can all sit together in a rocket and launch on Mars, no one will miss them Wink

5005  Other / Serious discussion / Re: How Long should I stay with crypto? on: April 29, 2022, 10:48:48 AM
@Mosharafhh, you have chosen to be a bounty hunter as can be seen from your post history and the fact that in just under 3 years you have made over 800 posts, which are validated with only 1 merit. I don't know if you earned anything during that time (I mean something more than just crypto dust), but you obviously harmed your health by spending so much time online.

Your problem is that you came here to work (like many others), and this has its negative consequences as you yourself have detected. Therefore, I suggest a complete turnaround in the sense that you begin to perceive the forum as a place for discussion and acquisition of knowledge, and only then as a place where you can make some extra money.
5006  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Legal Tender in Panama on: April 29, 2022, 10:15:47 AM
Interesting, it seems that Panama is more into attracting the foreign investors rather than accepting the bitcoin locally.
~snip~

They definitely have a different approach than El Salvador and they clearly define that in their strategy :

Quote
Echandi: We believe that they’re totally different efforts and they’re trying to solve completely different problems. El Salvador, we think, is a massive push toward Bitcoin adoption specifically, because it mandated adoption of bitcoin as legal tender. In Panama, that would be unconstitutional. We can’t force anyone to take a specific currency because we have monetary freedom established in the constitution.

In other words, anyone who wants will be able to use Bitcoin completely legally, and this will by no means be an obligation, as is the case in the ES when it comes to all legal entities. Panama is likely to be much more attractive to investors because of its very favorable tax laws than Malta, Gibraltar, or perhaps Madeira, which each wants to become a kind of crypto paradise (or at least have had such plans in the past).
5007  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Gary Gensler is delaying spot ETF on: April 29, 2022, 09:48:40 AM
Don't be naive to think that it's a one-man decision, or that it's a decision the SEC will make without getting the green light from some higher authority. If you read any justification for refusing to accept such a financial instrument then you will see that the SEC keeps repeating the same story over and over again, albeit with minor modifications given that it has approved futures-based ETFs.

I am of the opinion that they are now closely following what is happening with the futures-based ETF, and what is happening with the spot ETF approved in Canada for more than a year, and the fact that the same thing was approved recently in Australia. The pressure on them (SEC) is increasing every day, and it is only a matter of time before they make a positive decision.
5008  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: About BitBox on: April 29, 2022, 09:15:49 AM
There's Hellenic Post near me, but I don't understand how's this anonymous. I still have to give full name, email address/phone number and home address. No, I don't think I can just give fake information.

In order to rent/open a PO box in your post office, of course you have to give them your personal data, but when ordering online, you only give the seller information about your PO box without your name and address. In theory, this is how things should work, but before any order, you should ask for an official opinion from the seller.

Specifically, if you want to buy Trezor, send them an inquiry whether they support sending the device to the PO box - in which case you have a PO box + TOR + payment with BTC = the best anonymity you can get online.

Alternatively, you have at least two other options:

- Find the nearest location outside your country where it is possible to buy the HW you want for cash, and then go there on vacation and buy HW Wink
- Find someone trusted on the forum you trust to buy HW for you and send it to your home address.
5009  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Average 70% to 85% drops in 'bear markets' before big pushes to ATH... on: April 28, 2022, 04:25:24 PM
Its just the average of all the price drop after its new ATH which is quite known to the cryptocurrency investors, I am also expecting the next lowest low price will be around 20K that is the perfect time for big and long term investment but don't forget that the price dropped to sub 30K at some point earlier still the price managed to recover and reach mid 45K in no time.

Never say never when it comes to Bitcoin, but I would not bet that the price of BTC will go so low - which would mean as much as 50% loss in value at the moment. I think we hit bottom to about $28k after we hit $69k, and that's the biggest negative price difference that will happen after halving 2020.

I’m not saying it’s impossible to go that low, but there would have to be some very negative reason that would cause a great deal of panic in the market. This is, of course, the x-factor that is completely unknown and should be counted on, but at the moment I tend to believe that there is a much greater tendency for the price to increase than to go into such drastic declines.

Ruble is now the highest it has been against the Euro for 2 years. How well are those sanctions working?

Sanctions cannot have a short-term impact on a well-prepared Russia - and on the other hand the EU is playing a very dirty game by supporting Ukraine only to the point of not angering Russia to the end, which means the EU hopes Russia will achieve its goals and that the war will end.

The EU has proved once again that it is weak and incapable of dealing with the crisis in its own backyard, while at the same time the US is sending military aid worth billions. Germany proved itself again by sending military vehicles about 50 years old, but at least they cleaned the warehouse.

5011  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: About BitBox on: April 28, 2022, 03:20:58 PM
Something tells me that it's a bad idea. Perhaps I should forget about the hardware wallet as I'm left with no choice. Your thoughts.

Why would it be a bad idea to replace the old version of that HW with a new one? Well, every manufacturer who cares about their reputation and wants to keep their customers and attract new ones launches something new on the market from time to time. If you want more security, and if you're sure this device can give you that, I don't see why you shouldn't invest in it.

Maybe I misunderstood what the problem was, because there is no new version on the link you posted - which means you can't buy it for cash even if you want to?

You're actually selling worthless tokens on some imaginary promise to build some kind of eco-park with hotels, swimming pools and who knows what else - and I guess all the capital for that should come from selling tokens? I appreciate you at least being honest to point out that your token will most likely be worthless like thousands of others.

5013  Economy / Economics / Re: How Sweden Sends Just 1% of Its Trash to Landfills on: April 28, 2022, 02:30:54 PM
Sweden, like its neighbors Norway and Finland, is one of the countries that are different from other countries in many ways - not just the climate, but the fact that they have always strived for neutrality, but they have also detected and eliminated all the bad elements that do not allow society to thrive. I am thinking primarily of bribery and corruption, and of creating an honest political system in which politicians work in the interests of all people, and not, as is usual, first for themselves and then for their like-minded people.

Garbage is a very valuable raw material for many, but the main problem is how to convince people to sort it and how to properly manage such waste afterward. Swedes understand this very well, from the ordinary child to the highest office in politics, and therefore turn their garbage into energy - most other countries in the world are very far from moving in that direction mostly because they lag far behind in some other elementary things.

What I know from EU policy towards such things is that those countries that do not separate/recycle waste are sanctioned financially, and they are forced to make changes in that direction. I personally separate most of the waste for many years because it is my legal obligation, but people do not adhere to it and often mix waste, so there can be very embarrassing situations when waste is collected.
5014  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The first crypto cafe in Argentina is in Puerto Madero on: April 28, 2022, 10:34:55 AM
Recently, someone posted the news that something similar had opened up in Mexico, and the idea seems to be spreading rapidly through Central and South America. The reason is of course the growing popularity of cryptocurrencies and the fact that some see an opportunity to profit from it, whether by opening such themed cafes or by setting up crypto ATMs.

Since the link is in Spanish, it is not possible to find out more information about what exactly will be happening there, whether the lectures will be free and whether it will be exclusively about Bitcoin or whether it will also deal with altcoins.

@TheGhostMan, please post links in this part of the forum that lead to English-language content + since some users have slow or limited internet, it would be advisable to reduce the images to an appropriate size using the following code (adjust width).

5015  Other / Meta / Re: Creting a second account after ban without being caught. on: April 28, 2022, 10:07:54 AM
I don't know how they are so stupid that they get caught, because I think that if that happened to me and I wanted to create another account I would not get caught.

I don't want to go into details to give people ideas, but don't you think it would be very easy?

I don’t want to insult or generalize anyone, but most of those caught breaking the rules mostly come from the same countries where living by the rules and moral values are at pretty low levels. In other words, the way they behave in real life, they behave on the forum, with the difference that they think that the forum can be anonymous to the extent that no one will understand that they use alt accounts.

I will also not go into any details, but I will say that it would be quite easy to create multiple accounts without any possibility to connect them. But unfortunately for all those geniuses who come to the forum solely for profit, some basic things when it comes to cryptocurrencies are completely unknown.

Anyway, I don't know if it's just my impression or if they are just stupid.

I would say that it is a combination of ignorance, stupidity, and attempts to make as much money as possible.
5016  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: New York State Assembly passes ban on new BTC mines that don't use green power on: April 27, 2022, 03:05:14 PM
I do not know why also other industries are not banned not to use electricity that produces carbon in their operation.

Because Bitcoin is a problem that bothers many, and it doesn't have a central figure to defend it in situations like this - so it's a very easy target to attack. If they can already choose who to attack, they would rather choose weaker targets than some who would retaliate.

I know I'm probably in a minority here, but I think this law is actually a good thing, and it's similar to what I'm proposing in this thread. The faster the transition to renewables goes, the better, and once it's near 100%* anti-bitcoiners will lose their main argument** against Bitcoin.

It is one thing to imagine that mining can be powered by 100% green energy, and quite another to say that it is completely unrealistic that this can ever be achieved globally. Therefore, it is completely irrelevant to me whether this percentage will be 65% or 95%, there will always be those who will dispute such data because even at this time the energy consumption and environmental impact of Bitcoin mining is so small that we would never even talk about it in case Bitcoin is a centralized project.
5017  Economy / Economics / Re: AUSTRALIA Approves first BITCOIN SPOT ETF. on: April 27, 2022, 02:14:49 PM
No.
The fund buys bitcoin (not 100% correct, but let's forget this for a minute) with the funds the buyer of the fund used to buy the fund's shares in the first place.
So the fund is only a "passive actor". He has nothing to gain from buying at lower levels, nor uses his own funds to buy the bitcoins.

Thanks for the explanation, I was in doubt whether the fund first buys Bitcoin and then sells shares in the fund, but the latter of course makes a lot more sense because the fund buys with clients' money.

As far as I read, some prime broker is probably "scared" of letting their clients trade something with a "bitcoin" label attached.
~snip~

I'm not familiar with situations like this, and I was convinced that this ETF would start working today - but it's good to know that things like this can happen. It remains to be seen how long it will take to sort things out and what is the solution in such situations, finding a new prime broker or convincing an existing one to change his mind, something else?
5018  Economy / Economics / Re: AUSTRALIA Approves first BITCOIN SPOT ETF. on: April 27, 2022, 11:01:56 AM
I might also be overspeculating, but this might be tied to the flash dump in btc price we have seen on the same timeframe.

Does this have anything to do with how the ETF spot works given that the fund has to buy Bitcoin? Is it possible that the funds are trying to influence the price of BTC in some way to buy cheaper, or is it just a classic human incompetence?

The last part of the article is not very clear to me, maybe you can explain exactly what it is about?

Quote
However, sources close to Cosmos reportedly stated they were hopeful the strategy of buying units from the existing Purpose Bitcoin ETF listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, rather than actual bitcoin, might be more appealing to the prime broker which would allow them to list before its competitors.
5019  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright Proving He’s not Satoshi- AGAIN on: April 27, 2022, 10:40:55 AM
I really don't want to get into conspiracy-ish theories, but why does this news channel like interviewing BSV-ers so much? I'm really not sure but as far as I remember this isn't the first time CSW showed up in their show. When people have finally forgotten about this guy, suddenly he shows up on their show lmao.

What this YT channel often emphasizes is the topic of "who is Satoshi", and then how not to invite as a guest someone who claims that he is the person? If you want to increase viewership, then you need as many controversial guests as possible, regardless of the fact that they have been proven to lie and deceive the public. It is possible that Faketoshi paid for the interview, because that is the only way he can still keep the lie alive.

the comment section is riddled with Craig fans. one thing I notice about Craig fans in that comment section is they keep saying Craig Wright moving a bitcoin from the satoshi wallet doesn't prove that Craig Wright is satoshi and if CSW did that it would inevitably crash the BTC price.  Roll Eyes

It doesn't matter if it's paid comments or real followers of Faketoshi, I noticed the same thing while watching a few minutes of this video. The fact is that Faketoshi can't sign any address that would link him to Satoshi, and everything else is just a bunch of lies that will catch up with him sooner or later.
5020  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fort Worth Becomes First City to Mine Bitcoin on: April 27, 2022, 10:25:30 AM
Is that double standard or are people not understanding what the news is saying?
It is the government that is running this mining program. Do we really want the governments start mining bitcoin and amass hashrate? I don't think anybody in bitcoin world wants that!

I think it's naive to think that no government (except El Salvador) has bought Bitcoin so far, or that it doesn't mine it secretly - of course only for the purpose of scientific research Wink To be honest, we didn't want much of what was going on with Bitcoin - from making KYC mandatory, banks providing custodial services for crypto, futures, and ETFs, or stable coins that are actually a real Trojan horse that has crept deep into crypto trading.

Or maybe to some people, US government is an exception Cheesy in that case think of it as maybe Russian or Chinese government start doing this next.

The US does not have many sincere friends in the world, but there are very few who do not respect them for more than obvious reasons from the recent and distant past. In addition, all eyes are on the country when it comes to Bitcoin, whether it is what the SEC, Saylor, Mr. Mars or someone else will say or do.

Shifting mining from dirty China to clean US was just a bad smokescreen, especially if one remembers what statements came from some influential people in the US crypto sector a few years ago when they said the US should take more initiatives when it comes to Bitcoin mining.
