5021  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2022-03-23]Thailand Bans Use of Cryptocurrencies as a Method of Payment on: March 27, 2022, 04:47:53 PM
@DooMAD, some of us still remember well our colleague from the forum who at one point disappeared saving his life from the very strict laws that this country has for many things, which include the death penalty. Come to think of it, I'm surprised they haven't declared Bitcoin illegal and imposed the death penalty on anyone who trades or pays with it - although they're well on their way to making it a reality one day.

Indeed some of us do...

re Thai, I personally thought there has been slow signs of things relaxing in recent years and I say this in the loosest way possible, given just how strict they were in the past. I come from the region so I completely get where they were/are coming from. The only country in our nook of the world to never have been a colony of a foreign power, and they believe it was their strict policies and preservation of extreme control that's helped them do that (historians believe in several theories).

So it's a bit of a surprise to learn of this news... given how hot and heavy they wanted to be with blockchain/crypto regulations since 2017. So much for being a rival blockchain-crypto-emerging tech hub to Singapore.

P.S. Quite the opposite of what others have done (ban payment and not trading).
5022  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A month of WAR on: March 27, 2022, 04:07:04 PM
^Bitcoin surpassed ruble on market cap? That's pretty cool, but more like ruble's come down below Bitcoin's. Milestone nevertheless!

Another can add is what issue that found on Chrome browser, as we all know Chrome is one of the popular browsers and there is issue that found that user could possibly get hacked.

And this has an impact on Bitcoin how? Not the first time a browser will find an issue, not the first time it'll be blamed for some hack here or there, won't be the last time by any means. We need to stop seeing any kind of bad news with general digital security as something relevant to Bitcoin.
5023  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏆 2022 OSCARS - Nominees, Odds and Predictions! on: March 27, 2022, 02:28:41 PM
Maybe for you and few others here on the thread, but for me Power of the Dog is probably the best out of nominated. With that being said, I do understand that slow burn dramas are not everyone's cup of tea and its a type of movie you either like a lot, or not at all, there's usually no middle ground with those. I fall into former group so I enjoyed it a lot. I am personally bored more with mindless action than with anything else.

Was just commenting elsewhere that I thought Dog was a decent movie, but I just didn't feel like it was good enough to win best film (note that I haven't seen any of the other nominees except Dune).

Big, big fan of slow burn too -- very few action films make it in my all-time -- but I just thought there wasn't enough other than good acting to make this memorable for me. Probably also as I quickly guessed what the secret was so soon (though the ending I didn't foresee).

Anyone else think a foreign film could do another surprise? I feel like predicting Oscars tend to be more about identifying trends.
5024  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io Betting discussion thread rev on: March 27, 2022, 01:37:49 PM
Yeah, guess they went for Cricket instead -- and I don't think any of us playing in the NCAA seem to be able to access the IPL promo Steve mentioned in SB ANN so we sit back and dream.

Used up my last freebet in my account today, expiring tomorrow so I didn't feel like there was much choice but to go for World Cup games. Future games on leagues limited -- a Verstappen win special today at 7/1 looked pretty but he also needed fastest lap so I declined.

Good luck to myself.

Any of you guys got punts on tomorrow's Oscars? Best Film category, Dune and Power of the Dog are the only films I've watched, and while I thought both were decent, didn't really feel either were good enough to win best film -- former felt more like a sneak preview into the epic, latter was well, sign of the times I think. Westerns really getting out of the dusty script idea book huh.
5026  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 27, 2022, 11:49:47 AM
I missed the upset of the season guys, can't believe it. It was 31/1 at Sportsbet, 27/1 at Fairlay but come on, this was Italy.
Woow and the thing with such odds is we punters play with a safety net in mind to avoid losing money, imagine staking $100 or more...the payout comes out as good money  Roll Eyes

Well, the best thing about odds like that is you don't have to stake so much. A tenner on a 10/1 or more makes it so much more worthwhile than trying to win 10 2/1 bets.

Anyway, all you experts here, show me your best upset prediction and why. Any chance Tahiti smack it down after losing horribly to fellow islanders? Or Jamaica maybe?
5027  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: March 27, 2022, 10:44:57 AM
Yeah, engineering issues I guess is going to define this season. Just really glad it's turning out okay so far for the man, but makes me wonder now if the way they're redoing the cars has been through thorough enough testing.

Anyway, Perez first ever pole, makes me rethink also if my early picks will stand. Doesn't look good atm, but I'm going to count on him not being able to defend that over the course.
5028  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is going to be bad for the Indian Bitcoin community on: March 27, 2022, 09:36:18 AM
Out of curiosity though, just how many of you guys are going to be affected by this new tax? Not the 30%, the 1% on every trade (which if I understand is only on trades, not on spend transactions).

I mean, are you guys regularly trading to the point that this is bad for you? I mean, honestly speaking, I do end up paying just about that amount exchanging my crypto to fiat, I imagine if Indians got big enough a network and did P2P with very low spreads, that 1% could be equivalent to what someone like me would pay.

The comments I'm seeing sounds like the "Indian Bitcoin community" is just full of traders rather than users.

5029  Economy / Speculation / Re: ₿ not going below 40.000 (probably) on: March 27, 2022, 09:04:48 AM
^ Not sure why it would be any different this week from the previous though. The strong fundamentals you mentioned (and more than that not mentioned) have all been creeping up in positive trends for years, with or without the market reflecting that.

I wouldn't even say we should not worry if March doesn't end at 50k like people seem to be getting the fuss on about -- the real worry is if we don't hold above this 40k support for the entirety of April.

Barely 12 days since we broke above 40k. I'd much prefer a full 30 days spent above it than 50k right now.
5030  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: F1 Formula Sports Racing - Sportsbet.io promotions & discussion thread on: March 26, 2022, 05:22:16 PM
Hmm was counting on LeClerc NOT to repeat his performance so I guess the engineering issues are here to stay? No idea, seems unclear even from news reports but I'm probably still sticking to my picks in the pool -- and keeping them almost exactly as they were on Race 1.

Anyone changed their mind after today yet?
5031  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏀NCAA basketball🏀 March Madness 2022🏆-🤾 Sportsbet.io discussion thread on: March 26, 2022, 03:21:18 PM
Trofo yeah, seems like a mix of upsets eventually helped me get across the line. Actually, can't find the Terms anymore, the 4-3-free tab doesn't even show me previous anymore unlike before. Probably right, can't be awarding 0 points peeps with freebets now, can they? 100s of participants by the looks of it.

So 3 correct for a prize then huh. Missed by one I did.

I will actually take a serious look at some upsets. Peacocks already locked in on a Clubhouse freebet haha @6.72 with a boost, the biggest odds I can see in the remaining selection.

Also, totally forgot I put this bet down but a Sportsbet notification reminded me. And the only reason I picked it was for the odds.

The second-biggest upset won in the first round, and the biggest one in Sweet Sixteen. Odds are no longer as crazy with Elite Eight... biggest is Peacocks again at 36/10 so no bets for me.
5032  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🚀-Sportsbet.io-🚀 - Southampton FC Main Sponsor 🚀🚀 on: March 26, 2022, 01:52:03 PM
^Yeah no complaints from me either. Occasionally put bets down on specials when I saw them (Brett Lee picks hit once for a big 30/1 IIRC) but otherwise I understand it even far less than NFL or MLB or NBA (hey, I surprise myself even knowing those acronyms easily now). The last cricketer I knew properly is now Pakistan's PM.

Of course, if Steve ushers as in as eligible users I ain't saying no. 1 BTC prize? Say no more.

KKR's just won the coin toss and chosen to bowl (whatever that means) though so IPL is officially underway...
5033  Economy / Gambling / Re: Pmalek’s Collection of The Best Gambling Threads and Discussions on: March 26, 2022, 01:26:31 PM
Since hate isn't allowed, I probably should reserve... oh what the hell Wink

I haven't gone through the entire list but I think you find much more interesting discussions happening with particular users, rather than threads. With all due respect, many threads are started by users who I feel are alts, or aren't really gamblers, or who haven't really contributed to existing discussions already.

An example is Martingale revisited as per acroman08's suggestion, which is a post from a good user and offers much more constructive and new insight from others even on the first page. This to me is more useful than the general dead-horse-beaten-countless-times posts that tend to populate Gambling Discussion.

So I prefer the threads that list users and there's already one, but I don't necessarily agree with the entire list either.

Closely analysed Merited posts incorporation would probably cultivate an even higher-quality list.
5034  Other / Archival / Re: What is holding back the price of bitcoin now? on: March 26, 2022, 12:19:44 PM
Which only strengthens my opinion that it's still retail strength, not institutional, that moves the market, at least in shorter or medium term instances that are more noticeable. These are fundamentals, ever increasing, ever growing, regardless of market situations. The last crash we had, for example, or the last ATH for that matter -- all happened regardless of use, security (hashrate and difficulty), upgrades, adoption, which continue to strengthen Bitcoin with every passing day.

Price support, market floors, I guess are what benefit the most from fundamentals. Whether or not price fulfills potential is still down to average Joe in numbers as he either ignores or is ignorant of fundamentals (altcoin markets also prove this).
5035  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin Mixer services be trusted? on: March 26, 2022, 10:53:00 AM
Think it's pretty clear by now to OP. You can't trust any mixer to be a good actor because they're all centralised. In the end, like every business, you hope their motivation to conduct business correctly to ensure future income is more than their motivation to run off with your funds or steal your data.

If it's fund security you're worried about, even with alternative type of mixing like CJ where you maintain custody of funds, you have to give up a degree of mixing efficacy (to me).

Really do read the posts suggested by LoyceV (the ChipMixer articles).

However, it's hard to believe big company like BitPay reuse same address. I can't imagine the pain when user make mistake (under pay, over pay, etc.).
I've seen it with my own eyes: the address they gave me was funded half a year earlier.
But it was (is?) much worse with the instant exchanger I mentioned: they used a few different deposit address many times per day.

I can confirm the same. Was some time ago though, it was legacy address, I checked it as force of habit and saw it had 2 older txs, funded and then swept out I guess. It's not even the first time, I've seen it on other services before, and on some services I've been using for years, never once (Localbitcoins, for example, probably used hundreds in my lifetime, and they're now on bech32, but have never given a recycled address) so I know it's just negligence on the part of services who do.

And ETF, when users make a mistake, though, you don't talk to BitPay. You talk to merchant if you overpay or make a mistake who then refunds you only in fiat (and you can't underpay, Bitpay just would reject the invoice and ask you to get your refund from the merchant).

Happened to me plenty during peak congestion, when it takes too long to confirm (expire) or you use RBF (yeah, who knew) so you're forced to overpay fees in a major way with BP. Sorry, didn't meant to go on a rant.
5036  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏀NCAA basketball🏀 March Madness 2022🏆-🤾 Sportsbet.io discussion thread on: March 26, 2022, 10:11:08 AM
^Woohoo I ended up in 5th position so I can look forward to that tasty freebet ha. 1st place shared only by a few people on 6 points -- didn't see any nicks I recognise there so I guess no forum peeps. Also, I see a lot more people participate in this one compared to other American sports promos in the past -- something about basketball?

Keep an eye out for next round I guess, next game in just about 12 hours.
5037  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🚀-Sportsbet.io-🚀 - Southampton FC Main Sponsor 🚀🚀 on: March 26, 2022, 09:39:39 AM
WHOA Steve I didn't even know IPL had happened, feels pretty recent when I last took a bet on them, but then again football seasons seem in a continuous flux ever since Covid so I maybe lost a sense of time.

Always keen for the promos, and hoping for F1 rectifications as I fell away in the first race already! Don't see the Cricket thing in 4-3-free though, just the Poland-Sweden qualifier.

Dude is definitely one of the rare coaches for sure, but take him and put him on like let's say Lyon on Ligue 1 and I believe he would not be "this" great. He would still be a decent manager, but right now he is in the perfect position for his job and that is why he is overachieving so much.

I agree. Note that I said he's the best-rated manager right now, I don't personally think he's a great one. Sometimes you get a guy and a team and a club who find a way to sync in the best possible way. Overachievers all in one place perhaps but he's what the club needs now and good for them. I'd say the same about Xavi too. He will not crown Barca with glory, but he will lead them out of the woods.
5038  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 26, 2022, 09:27:12 AM
Should have, but didn't. AFCON showed us we should all be betting on under 1.5 goals for matches and I thought I would venture a few bets even on an acca but didn't find the balls for it eventually. Shame.

As expected, Burak Yilmaz announced his retirement from the national team today. He has 31 goals in 77 games, a feat surpassed only by Hakan Sukur.

I really feel sorry for him, this is a horrible way to go. Basically his last touch in international football was a missed penalty that kicked Turkey from the World Cup.

Sport can sometimes be really cruel - he was great for Turkey over the years and there is a chance that he'll be remembered most by this miss.

Yeah, I lost a Turkey outright but that's not as important as seeing a player you've followed over the years in an underdog capacity to finally go. That penalty gone in and he could be facing down N Macedonia.

Sports is cruel, football even more so but don't worry. For years I thought I'd remember Gerrard's worst possible turnout in his final game for Liverpool but I don't think anyone remembers that now with his career. Yilmaz will have many sunny days in front.
5039  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Hoard Bitcoin? on: March 26, 2022, 07:55:50 AM
Spending btc can indeed help the adoption because others will get curious if you use your btc to buy stuff and they will use btc too later on but first we need to wait for our country to make btc as a legal tender.
So who says others need to know you're using btc to buy your stuff? Show me one single purchase you've ever made with Bitcoin that made others in your life curious.

Use PayPal, they'll send you emails which friends or bosses or colleagues might see. Use banks and you'll get mail every now and then your neighbours can steal or open or your parents can.

You're saying the entire world should wait for their country to make it legal tender? Only one country does. And you can bet they're watching their citizens since they got them to use a wallet they paid to develop. Talk about curious eyes.
5040  Economy / Speculation / Re: Terra cofounder Do Kwon is the one who is pumping Bitcoin on: March 25, 2022, 06:00:54 PM
OK I'm lost. Absolutely, like most semi-transparent mostly-opaque issuing companies of stablecoins, completely randomised explanations of what's possibly evolving algorithms that only he or his dev knows.

They're not investing in Bitcoin, they're just throwing stablecoins they created into Bitcoin on the market, and it's nowhere mentioned that I can find where you can verify if they hold a single satoshi (no need to show me if you find it, not interested).

Terra: Damn no one is using UST.
Terra: I know, let's use it to buy BTC.
Terra: Instant use case!
