Not cool leading us to believe CH/TOAA/and his 50 other alts were gone for good..even if for a split second ! Smiley

Cobra handing over btalk domain was a biggie this year.

Lastly we lost the biggest troller of trolls in the one and only Tman..not to mention his Shakespearean word smithing..I miss the days where posts were coming in hot and heavy to Loyce's Tman's quotes thread.

5043  Economy / Scam Accusations / Smart Contract Finance Isn't Real ! ...Yet on: October 18, 2020, 06:05:13 AM
I've been reading in to all these Smart contract token platforms and the so called SC Finance "revolution" and after every WP I read it's the same conclusion ..it's all smoke and mirrors, right now. I am amazed at how many are buying in to this nonsense , feels like Bitconnect all over again, just a bit harder to spot for most.  I can't break down how a blockchain works or understand cryptography, but I can break down finance scams as that is what I've spent years of my life studying how to do. There's nothing cryptographically (probably not a real word) special about this stuff.

Smart Contracts have stalled out. They can only perform basic things that pc's have been able to do for many years.  Ask Nick Szabo the creator of S.C's and arguably the most knowledgeable crypto expert..hes recently explained on podcasts that he has little to no faith in their advancement anytime soon.  Here's an example of what legit SC finance looks like..but it's not possible, yet.. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=750.0  ..this kind of smart contract finance operation is truly a game changer, if it ever comes to fruition, that is.

DeFi, Celsius Network etc are all laughably unsustainable projects or unrealistic and not yet possible (just like how so much crap is being called Quantum computing or Artificial Intelligence when neither have even come to fruition..yet)  My favorite one of these "finance tools" is being able to borrow money at a lower cost than what depositing that same money for the same time period will pay out, with the same exact company, which is essentially creating arbitrage. On top of this unsustainable nonsense ..why aren't people asking "So how are you making money off my deposits in order to "guarantee" (which is an SEC violation) such ridiculously high rates that no bank or finance company can do or ever has done??!!

People wake up. Besides Bitcoin/Monero, there's very few legit projects/coins/tokens going today in cryptoland. 99% of them are scams of some variety, period..and this smart contract finance bullshit will end the same way they all do. Don't forget, Bitconnect lasted a pretty long time too  (relatively speaking).
5044  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: October 16, 2020, 04:02:23 PM
Alright, i will keep him then!

Chiefs have a game with Bills on Monday, but i don't think Bell will play in this one, he has to clear some covid protocols, as i've read.

After that Chiefs have Denver, Jets and the Panthers, those three games should be telling if and how Reed will use him.

With a good team, decent OL and very creative coach, maybe keeping Bell will pay out, we will see...

I would keep Bell too unless you are able to get a better running back in the trade somehow. He’s definitely upgraded going to the Chiefs, which is of course at my expense as I drafted Clyde Edwards with my first pick. Bell should likely get half the carries and all the goal line carries.
5045  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: MLB - Major League Baseball- Betting Thread on: October 14, 2020, 04:39:30 PM
Nice hit.  The game is at 7-3 right now the over was a solid bet.  Still riding the under on the American league championship series.  Its 1-0 after 2 innings hoping for a couple innings of goose eggs.  Probably should have just rode your bet and I wouldn't have to sweat this one out   Cheesy

Yeah despite Kershaw not pitching I still liked the over for this game and went with it.  Helped offset some of my NFL losses this week lol.

Amazing to see how well the Rays and Braves are doing.  I can't stand the Dodgers almost as much as I can't stand the Astros so it is great seeing them go down 0-2 as well. Not sure if I'm going to be these two games today however.  Anyone have any feelings on todays games?
5046  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🏈🏈 The American Football Discussion Thread 🏈🏈 on: October 14, 2020, 03:54:20 PM
Well I thought I was having a horrible week of fantasy football but ended up going 3-0 in my leagues.  Happy about that but not happy about my NFL bets this week.  Anyone else throw down on the Bills at -3 or -3.5?  I thought for sure with Tennessee having several players out due to covid and not having practiced but once in like two weeks that they would for sure lose...but they came to play.  I think this game was very telling for the Titans.  Sure the Bills were missing some key players on defense but still.  Not to mention the Bills running game is awful.  That's going to really hurt them moving forward.
5047  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is DeFi benefiting Bitcoin? on: October 14, 2020, 03:46:17 PM
DeFi is a SCAM.  It's driving me insane after all the scams we've seen in the cryptocurrency world and people still don't understand how to spot an obvious scam.

The only way I see this helping out bitcoin is the fact that's it's created a lot of buzz around crytpocurrency and a lot of idiots who don't know how to break down a crypto coin or token are buying in since it's returns have been so high of late.  Again, people, THIS IS A SCAM.  I would love for someone to try and refute that so I point out your ignorance and everyone else's.  Sick of this crap.
5048  Economy / Economics / Re: Cares Act- How will this effect the economy down the road? on: October 14, 2020, 03:26:49 PM
Saving is not going to save you if you ever have anything that happens to you and you have to cash it out.
There are people who get sick and spend all their retirement money and end up working until very old age.

Governmental ones are perfect for that, almost all big nations have free healthcare as well, places like USA for example do not have it for some reason I do not know about but in the end other nations do have governmental old age income, you pay a certain tax until you retire with each paycheck and when you retire the government pays you a salary basically for paying them all that tax. At the end of the day I would say having a forced governmental retirement fund would allow you to just spend your old age with ease without every worrying about money or health.

Well that's simply not true.  First off it all depends on how much you have saved and what happens to you.  This is what we have insurance for as well.  It is true that the US has a shitty healthcare setup, and do not have free healthcare like most advanced nations, but many still have insurance and some good insurance, so it all depends on the individuals situation.  But to say savings wont help, just isn't true.

The US also has social security, which is an "old age income", btw.
5049  Economy / Economics / Re: Cares Act- How will this effect the economy down the road? on: October 13, 2020, 04:37:18 PM
Many of you I think aren't understanding the point of this thread.  It is not about deciding whether people who are enduring hardships due to Covid-19 should be eligible for this money or not, or whether they truly need it or not...it's about the long term implications of what this could/will do to the economy.  Being on the front line of this, I know for a fact that many people are abusing this Act, and using the money in a way that is not in their best interest.  I also know that many are using in their best interest.

The point of this thread is how this will effect the economy down the road when countless people have blown through their retirement during Covid and will need government assistance or some sort of help down the road.  This will effect how their plans play out down the road, maybe increase subsidized housing, the need for food banks etc etc.  These are the implications and long term issues I was trying to discuss.

The fact that such a large chunk of the population is dipping into their retirement funds is indicative of a larger systemic debt and savings problem. It reflects the reality that most people already live somewhat close to hand-to-mouth, and have no real savings to draw on in a multi-year or even multi-month downturn (aside from their retirement account).

Wiping out their retirement accounts is just staving off the inevitable implosion of the debt bubble. The government knows this is a terrible solution, but the only other options are to borrow or print loads more helicopter money.

I couldn't agree more.  This is what I see and deal with on a daily basis.  People are so often living above their means have no sense of what financial savings are all about.  It's often like they are allergic to good advice.  With so many people living so close to "hand-to-mouth" like you stated, I fear this Cares Act is going to push so much over the edge, so to speak and end up blowing up in our faces ( americas economic face that is ).  Scary how unintelligent and lazy people are.  Blows my mind time after time though it shouldn't
5050  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: btc vs ethereum on: October 13, 2020, 04:27:48 PM
As others have pointed out, you really can't/shouldn't compare the two.  They have entirely different use cases.  Second, it's important to point out that Ethereum's platform is Smart Contract based, and the truth about smart contracts is that they are "stuck" as far as their advancements go and can only perform basic functions that quite frankly other programs can do as well.  Here's an example.  Satoshi posted about using Smart Contracts for Escrow ( https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=750.0 ) but the problem is this is not possible at the moment.  Smart contracts are very limited and therefore so is Ethereums current upside potential.

BTW DeFi is a SCAM!!!
5051  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2020 NBA Season on: October 13, 2020, 04:17:16 PM
So how are you guys feeling about next years odds?  I am not surprised that the Lakers sit at the top, as I'm sure Anthony Davis and much of the team will be back.  I was a bit surprised to see the Golden State Warriors so low on the list.  I would think if they have everyone back and healthy, they will easily be competing for the title.  Regardless, it's great to have a much more even playing field back in the NBA , almost like never before ( at least any time recently ).

5052  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: MLB - Major League Baseball- Betting Thread on: October 13, 2020, 03:59:07 PM
As long as the Astros don't make im fine with it.  As a yankees fan that was brutal watching game 5 go down in flames like that but I'd still rather see the rays in the series than the astros.

As far as betting the AL games, I think the unders are going to be good bets here regardless of pitcher.  The rays bullpen is filthy and see this as a grind of a series.  Too hard to bet straight up baseball for me.

I couldn't agree more with your first statement.  As much as I despise the Yankees, I despise the Astros twice as much.  I mean cheating was one thing, but the way they came out and acted after getting caught was deplorable.  Acting like it was no big deal basically and still lying through their teeth about everything.

I like your call about betting the under.  It really is all about pitching right now and you're right the Rays bullpen is absolutely straight up filthy.  Baseball is definitely hard to bet straight up, which is how I prefer to gamble.

First game is a total of 6 runs hopefully the rest of the series plays out like that.  Throw up a blind under on each game not looking at the spread or pitchers.  Lets see how this strategy turns out 😅

The difficult thing about baseball betting is games are just so unpredictable.  The Rays sure came out to play, obviously we are both happy about that!  I am kind of feeling the over for the O/U on the Dodgers game today.  The O/U is 7.5.  Kershaw is pitching for the Dodgers and normally I would be betting the under when he's on the mound, but he has a history of getting lit up in the playoffs, so I'm going over for that game. Not sure if there's a good bet for this Rays/Astros game though.

Wait what...  Huh Cant be serious

I missed the whole 2nd batch again. If someone is up for selling some of these, please let me know about it.

Yea he did a newsletter/email to those that subscribed on his site offering first dibs - and apparently all were sold.

as there are quite a few that missed out and are looking for some of these, maybe I should do an auction for the 4 extra pairs that I would have.  That might be more fair.

I’m just looking to either buy or swap 2-3 out of my originals for new ones.  Not looking to pay any sort of premium, just keep me posted if you decide you want to to do that vs auction. Thx.
5054  Economy / Economics / Re: I lost my job, how about you guys? on: October 12, 2020, 05:15:57 PM
Sorry to hear this, there is absolutely nothing fun or good about this coronavirus and my heart goes out to all those who've lost work due to it's implications.  I myself have been very worried about losing my job and fear that it could be right around the corner.  I wish you the best moving forward during these trying times.

I don't think there will be a winner or loser when it comes to decentralized for centralized monies.  Andreas Antonopoulos has often stated that he believes eventually the two will work in conjunction with each other.  Anyone who states that bitcoin or another decentralized currency will end up taking over their governments fiat, is crazy and has no idea what they're talking about.  Major governments aren't just going to give up control like that.

Had a pretty ugly day of fantasy football and betting yesterday.  Damn those Vegas odd's makers are good lol.  I certainly did not expect that Seattle game to be so damn close.  Their defense is just so suspect.

Tonight's game I'm staying far away from.  We know Michael Thomas is not playing and Jared Cook might sit as well.  With both of those two guys out, Brees could be in for an ugly night.  I do hope they play Tuesday game though.  Will be a great game , regardless of fantasy of gambling implications.  I think the Bills take it and I like them at -3.5.  Placing bet as soon as I heard the game is confirmed good to go.

Looks like even Google is celebrating the Lakers' victory this season. I wonder if some of the Google search engineers are Lakers fans. Too bad spectators couldn't attend the final game, it would've been glorious to see in person.

If this rumor is still true.

Quote
"Lakers Rumors: Anthony Davis Declined $146M Max Contract; Will Become Free Agent"

Then it's good!

That was an old article, Dated January 2020 and that was right before the Bubble or before the pandemic happened, so after this Championship which you can see he was very happy, that rumor might not be close to reality anymore as we saw how dominant they are playing together and probably Lebron will just retire in the Lakers uniform and Davis will takeover as the leader of the team.

Anthony Davis actually can't decide yet if he still wants to be a free agent. He is the main reason for the Lakers winning the title. But he also just signed on to the Lakers this year and it's doubtful that Lebron would suddenly retire.

Los Angeles Lakers' Anthony Davis on pending free agency: 'I have no idea'

And at least Dragic was able to play this game, even if he couldn't save his team. Kudos to him  Smiley

He is ONE of the main reasons they won the chip, but no Lebron no title.  Anthony Davis was always great but never sniffed this far into the playoffs on his own.  Lebron has shown he can make the finals year after year regardless of who is on the team, just look at the squad he played with in clevland, minus kyrie he pretty much played with a bunch of benchers.

I'm with ya here Wheelz.  To say that Anthony Davis was the main reason for the Lakers winning the title is really just a bit silly.  Lebron James is the best all around NBA player to ever live. ( Now not the best player to ever live, that title goes to the goat Michael Jordan, but the best "all around" as in Lebron due to his size has been able to play more positions but when it comes to all out best player, he's squarely at #2 in my book).

I think Anthony Davis likely knows what he's doing next year, but it's not like he's going to just announce that right after winning the championship..pretty typical for players to do that.  I think he'll be back with LA

Word on the street is the second batch of these has already sold out. I did not expect this second round to sell out so quickly so I never placed an order. If someone might be so kind to sell me a couple I’d really appreciate it. I’d also be willing to trade some of the original versions for them. I’m only looking for like 2-3 so nothing crazy.

How are you guys liking these afternoon/night games ? Right now I am feeling Seattle over Minnesota, Seattle being at -6.5. O/U is 55 which I am kinda feeling the over for as well. I also like Indianapolis over Cleveland at +1. I think Indy has proven to be pretty damn good and the Browns to me have yet to really prove it.

Anyone have any bets laid out for this second half of games they love ?
